May 27th. Thursday.
Knee quite sore. Mr. Tuer came up to see the tent and I went around the garden with him to get artichokes sorrel & cress. Went to bank with S. S. collection and Mr. Ryan's and Tommy's deposits. Helped Charles take the tent down. Wrote to Clare. Just heard from Aunt Maggie that Dora committed suicide {Dorothea Mary “Dora” Dickson Hand Fenelon Falls, daughter of Margaret Halliday Dickson see page 9} & Charlie phoned that Mr. Engel died this morning at 5 o'clock, at 6:30 p.m. Charlie and Alice came along in the car and we left for Hanover. Called first at Engel's. Saw Jack, Mrs. Dowkes, Dr. Engel, Mrs. Engel, Duncan and Mrs. Ball. Mrs. Engel seemed quite dazed. Mr. Engel had been ill for 9 weeks with rheumatism. Then had pleursy and finally the fluid on the lungs filled the heart. Dorothy got home on
