1863 the 5th 1863 Mr James Cameron Island January Hansel Monday Drew the 2 oak Trees up on the Hill took home some Drags the Calve Died with Drinking too much skinned her setting Fires in the Marshes High wind a Fine Day Wind Last night Blew some old Trees Down 6th cleaning the pipes Drew the calve away took the Hay From the End of the Barn to the stable put the Calve in the hen house 7th Began to thrash the Oats the the Black 1 1/2 Began the other cold Freesing a little snow Last night put the sheep in the Big shed the Waterhole axe in the River 8th a Mink on the Island dont come to My Traps the Fox on but very shy Threshed oats Went to the head of the Island ice made well in the Bays the Mice Eating the oats Like the Devil 9th Thrashing & Fanning 5 - Bushels Lavinia helping me to Fan all the Potatoes covered now in the cellar 6 he{cut off} 1/2 Bushel in every heap turned warm in the Evening East Wind 10th Drawing Drags a Great Miracle in Finding a shirt Button in the Bush I happened to Turn over in Fun a Rotten Piece of a Log chunk Like as I turned it I commenced cutting the Ground as it was a little Frozen and what did I cut out But a shirt Button it Looked as if I was Just set to do it South Wind & snow cam in a hurry {second page} Mr James Cameron Island January the 11th Sunday Fine Day snowing & Raining at night 12th Thrashing the Last of the Oats Vin Washing got a Rat 13th Fanning 3 Bushels thats 8 Bushels of White Oats & 1 1/2 of Black Oats a Great yeild set My Trap tied to the calfs Leg went to Little Island chasing a Duck put some of the Marsh hay out of the Barn Began the Good hay for Gray a Fine Day But East Wind Raising at night some 14th Drew some Drags hacking at a Log of Lasheys for wood Raining some 15th Going out to the Bush for to chop I met with a Deer's track came home for my Gun chased him Down 3 Times from the Head of Island I Fired at him but was too far off I Lamed him a little al day after did not Get him I am thinking he'll stop all night with me he or she is a Bonny Beastie Turning stormy after Dark Blowing hard 15th a very stormy Day Found old Min the cat in the Trap Dead went to the Pitt Point to see if I would see the Deer did not see him East Wind changed to the Nor West of it would Freeze the ice would take chopping stove wood Gave Gray a pail of Milk some cold to night Good Fires warm house though the snow came in Thomas Munroe Out on the Lake all night him and Gabriel got his Feet Froze Badly 17th the ice took after the Deer to Kit Kit Old Mr Alexander Cameron Departed this life
