New Years Day Firing with the Pistol wind changed at 12 or 1 oclock this morning West By north and by south West about 6 O Clock Went around the Island cut Down 2 Oaks that was dead Feeding the cattle Well
2nd A Very fine Day seen a 2 canoes Fishing EEls made the Bed in the Kitchen
3rd Went to Dundee George Greaves & Gabriel Got in Horses Going for Fish Allens Birth Day Jim went to Cornwal for Baker & Frank Mrs Mayville a young one Last night Races on the ice to Day at Normans Bought of Norman 1/2 lb saleratus paid this sweetys -/1 nothing on credit got Baker to take 5 sheep allowing 15 dollars for them Witnefs to a note John M cBean Gave for 100 Dollars Bought of Baker 1 lb of cut tobacco to be paid got a Whippletree iron of the end from Bill Brought home the mits Got some papers from Bill Old Mrs Donald Cameron Carpenters Wife was Buried to Day I heard so a very Fine old Lady she was went So I would Get Abe & List school came home

6th cleaning the pipes Drew the calve away took the Hay From the End of the Barn to the stable put the Calve in the hen house
7th Began to thrash the Oats the the Black 1 1/2 Began the other cold Freesing a little snow Last night put the sheep in the Big shed the Waterhole axe in the River
8th a Mink on the Island dont come to My Traps the Fox on but very shy Threshed oats Went to the head of the Island ice made well in the Bays the Mice Eating the oats Like the Devil
9th Thrashing & Fanning 5 - Bushels Lavinia helping me to Fan all the Potatoes covered now in the cellar 6 he{cut off} 1/2 Bushel in every heap turned warm in the Evening East Wind
10th Drawing Drags a Great Miracle in Finding a shirt Button in the Bush I happened to Turn over in Fun a Rotten Piece of a Log chunk Like as I turned it I commenced cutting the Ground as it was a little Frozen and what did I cut out But a shirt Button it Looked as if I was Just set to do it South Wind & snow cam in a hurry

14th Drew some Drags hacking at a Log of Lasheys for wood Raining some
15th Going out to the Bush for to chop I met with a Deer's track came home for my Gun chased him Down 3 Times from the Head of Island I Fired at him but was too far off I Lamed him a little al day after did not Get him I am thinking he'll stop all night with me he or she is a Bonny Beastie Turning stormy after Dark Blowing hard
15th a very stormy Day Found old Min the cat in the Trap Dead went to the Pitt Point to see if I would see the Deer did not see him East Wind changed to the Nor West of it would Freeze the ice would take chopping stove wood Gave Gray a pail of Milk some cold to night Good Fires warm house though the snow came in Thomas Munroe Out on the Lake all night him and Gabriel got his Feet Froze Badly

19th Went to Dig the Grave John Duncan Henry William Rose John Rose & one of Long Johns Boys & Myself the Hardest Job to Dig a Grave that ever I seen almost impossible to Dig it Thomas Munroe Taking home From Hopkins came Down to R{illegible} had Dinner came Home Thomas Froze on the night of the 16th

21st St Agnes Day Taking the Wheat of the Hay on the West side of the Mow
22nd I went to see Thomas Munroe Angus Came sent out 18 Pounds of Butter Basket & Towl Bought of A Summers 1/2 lb Tea 1/4 1/2 Tape -/4 Powder canister 1/6 shot -/6 1/2 2 sp{cut off} -/6 Got the Dog Bull Tarrier about 1 year old Paid 5 Dollars to Streeter for him seen young David But He looks very Poorly Bought A Lottery Ticket
23rd Went for the Mare to Walters Bought of A Summers Led Pencil -/2 1/2 Horseshoe nails -/4 Got 2 shoes From Joby Rose got a Mouse in my Trap Bushed some of the Road to Francis Island Thawing some Killing Hogs at David Summers Sherrif McIntyre Down to Ranald G{cut off}

18th I went to Salmon River to settle affairs Brought some hops to Bill horse him dead Seen old David Summers & John Cameron there took me to Coles Tavern and Treated well to 2 Treats at Coles 1 at Normans 1 at Bakers paid Norman for the Broom Came home started with the Boy Gordon to Morrises took the short Road at Alexis Island
