Tuesday March 29th

Cold but warming up - Nice Sunshine. Wrote some letters for Charles. Wrote an account of Mr Moore's lecture on Inexpensive Flower Gardens and trees for Enterprise, Mrs. Beattie supplying the part on roses. Went down to the office to make the entries and while down went to the Sample room at McDonald House to get a hat. Went down there again after tea with Dorothy and called at Public Library coming back. Did Some more letters for Charles after dinner. Dorothy went to a party at Pearl Buckley's & Julius to the office to register voters for the Referendum.

Wednesday March 30th

Wrote a long letter for Julius. Went down town for meat. Did some mending. Wrote another letter for Julius after dinner. Went to dress maker's with Dorothy and then we went up to call on Mother. After tea called at Biehn's & Cobean's to invite them to a euchre party to morrow night. Duncan up in the evening.

Thursday March 31st.

Went down town in the Morning to Make purchases for Euchre party at night. A letter from Adelaide arrived saying that Frank was seriously ill (hemorage {hemorrhage}on Easter Sunday or Tuesday before) but the doctors thought not in immediate danger but he was to be taken to the hospital & she would wire if he were worse. In the afternoon a wire came asking Charlie to come if possible so Julius and Charles decided to go. So I called off my party. Phoned everybody but Biehns and called there. Then went to the office to help Julius get ready. Mr. Caldwell and I worked until 11 p.m. Dorothy at Ida Halladay's bridge party when telegram arrived. She went to Bijou in the evening with Mar. McDonald as nobody was at home.

Friday April 1st.

Worked at office all Morning, Packed Julius' Suit-case. He and Charlie drove to Hanover, leaving here at

2.30 p.m. and caught 6 p.m. train. Went to Leitch's to get Huylers' peppermints for Jack and called on Mrs. Leitch. Then went up to see Mother and wish Jack "Many happy returns of the Day." Mrs. Ferguson called in the evening and stayed until 10 p.m. Dorothy at home all evening.

Saturday April 2nd.

Beautiful spring day. Did Dorothy's last minute mending. Went down town in the morning to get her American Money etc. Went down with Dorothy after dinner to do her last minute shopping. Mar McDonald, Vi Mair and Pearl Buckley were here playing bridge. Mrs. Maxwell called to see me. After tea went to Public Library & then to office to see if I could help Mr. Caldwell (registering orders for Referendum) Then went to the Station and bought Dorothy's the ticket "Toronto Via Windsor."

Sunday April 3rd

Warm day. Dorothy and I went to church in the Morning. Just about an hour before s.s. Dorothy discovered she had cooties in her hair (Souvenir of settlement I expect) so I combed it and had to rush for s.s. Mother came up after Church. After s.s. I went to Leitch's for remedies. Mrs. Beattie came over to see Mother. Then Mr. and Mrs. M.A. called and Mrs. Stewart came to the door. Mother stayed for tea. Then I washed Dorothy's hair and went over it again. Went to Lowrey's to see if there was any Message from Prince Albert. None. Went up home with Mother and called to see Mr. Kyle who is very ill (somewhat better.) Cool enough for my fur coat at night. Helped Dorothy pack & got to bed at Midnight.

Monday April 4th.

Very warm to-day. Mrs. Ryan and I took the furniture out of the drawing room. Paper hangers gave the ceiling

one coat of paint. Went down town for Meat. Wrote to Gwen Ganley enclosing Dorothy's cheque. (Forgot to say I got up at 5.30 a.m. and went to station with Dorothy. Leaving for Detroit for visit with Marion Buell and then going straight from there to Toronto.) And to Miss McNaughton for Mrs. McGregor. went down town for Meat. Went down in the afternoon for Mail and went around to Mrs. Ferguson's to deliver a letter from Bert Halliday enclosed in one to me. Saw Mrs. Beattie, who came over with me and we discussed flowers & flower seeds. After tea wrote to Mr. Mulligan and to Julius.

Tuesday April 5th.

Mrs. Beattie came over in the Morning & we spent an hour or more arranging flowers for my perennial borders. After dinner I went over there to complete list of plants & seeds. Mrs. Mair called. Went down town for Mail. Took part of

leaves of tulips & Mrs. Ryan finished the Job. Went over to see Mrs. Hooper but someone there so did not go in. Wrote to Julius & Dorothy & went to station to post my letters. Alice got telegram from Charlie saying "Frank improving. Doctors think he may come round." Very hot. Too hot for coat.

Wednesday April 6th.

Very hot day. Mr. Vickers finished drawing room ceiling. Went down town after dinner for Mail. Went up to see Mother and called to see Mr. Kyle. Went to Mrs. Beattie's to deliver a plant Mother gave me for her but found her out. Discussed fence with Mr. Lipsett. Gathered some cress & sorrel for Mrs. Tuer & took it down to her. After tea went to see Mrs. Hooper. Wrote to Julius & Clare and went to the station to post my letters. Typed an extract for letter to Julius.

Thursday April 7th.

Very hot day. Mr. Vickers finished drawing room all but one tiny strip of border. Went down town in the Morning for Meat. Was out in garden telling Timmy Ryan what to do. Called on Mrs. Conrad Krug (also was ill) (In Morning went down to Mrs. Beatties' to see about some plants) and went to see Mrs. David Irvine, who was worse and was in bed. After coming home went down to get some pins to put up pictures. Got 2 letters and 2 postcards from Julius - 1st letter en route, other letter and cards from Regina but no word from Dorothy. Wrote to Julius and took letter to the station. Sent a wire to Marion Buell.

Friday April 8th.

Housecleaning all day. Put up all the pictures, put up drape above arch etc. Went down town for the Mail. Letter from Dorothy. Mrs. M.A. Halliday called and Duncan came up with as usual. Wrote to Julius and Duncan posted my letter. Made out the Quarterly Report

for the Church School and fixed cards for Primary Class. Got letter from Dorothy. Written Tuesday, Post-Marked "Detroit" on Thursday. Got here Friday. At Noon.

Saturday April 9th.

Washed the palm, all the dishes on plate-rail and on Buffet, also the Electric lights & shades in dining room & drawing room. Went down for the Mail after dinner and after tea went to Library, helped Mrs. Ferguson until 9 p.m.. Went to Lustig's for Meat & to bridge for a walk. Had a wire from Dorothy this Morning.

Sunday April 10th.

Cold day - Wore my fur coat. Went to church twice & to S.S. (Church in the Morning Union Service in the Evangelical Church. At night Union service in our church as Mr. Kellerman is in quarantine with Ellen who has Scarlet fever. Mrs. Kellerman at Green's with new baby daughter.) Went to see Mrs. Hooper in the afternoon and after church at

night Mrs. Ferguson and I went up to see Mother and on the way home I called and had my throat burnt at Dr. Rannie's. Nell telephoned that she had a wire from Julius saying Frank was better and now on the way to recovery.

Monday Apr. 11th.

Still cool but a little warmer. Cleaned books in library, Electric lights etc. In fact busy house cleaning until after 4 o'clock. When I went down for the Mail a crown came off so I went up to Dr. Caulfield's to get it on. Wrote to Julius. Went to Public Library Board Meeting and afterwards walked to bridge & back with Mrs. Ferguson.

Tuesday April 12th.

Fine day. Typed a four (long) page letter for Mrs. Ferguson for W. M. S. Society. Took it over to her and called to see Mrs. Beattie about seeds etc. Wrote

to Dorothy and Margaret Hewitt. Went down town for the Mail. Went up to see Mother and called to see Mr. Kyle. Did some shopping on the way home and after tea went to Post office to see if there was any letter from Charles on the {North?} Mail. Called to take some roses to Mrs. Hooper and then called to see Mr. & Mrs. M.A. Halliday as they got word to-day that Mr. James Halliday was dead (M.A. out) Wrote to Charles and went to the station to post the letter.

Wednesday April 13th.

Beautiful day. Washed my hair. Wrote to Blanche Gillies and Aunt Anaise. Went down town for the Mail and brought it home. Called at the Manse and then went to see Mrs. Leslie. Went down to store for curtains for hall door. After tea wrote to Charles, Nell and Jean Hyde. Went down to post office to post my letters.

Met Mrs. Maxwell and Mrs. Rogers. Mrs. Maxwell had been coming to see me because she had heard that Frank had died. (Mixed with Mr. James Halliday. House cleaning finished.

Thursday April 14th.

Nice in the Morning. I gathered some stones off the road and prepared box as a Miniature hot beds for my Snap dragons and ageratine seeds and then planted them. Wrote to Bert Halliday. Went to the office for the Mail and then to Johnston's for lesson in elocution. Called on Mrs. Leitch. After tea wrote to Charles and Nell and attended the Referendum Meeting which was addressed by Mr. Pilkie of Owen Sound. Mr. M.A. Chairman & Elmwood Minister and Mr. McCausland and Mr. McLachlan on the platform. Mr. Tuer not present at meeting. Rained quite heavily from about 5 to 7 p.m.

Friday April 15th.

Cool to-day. Went down at noon for Mail. Had a wire from Julius from

Regina Saying Frank is steadily improving and they will be in Toronto Sunday and home Monday in time to vote on the Referendum. Rang Nell up and discovered that Dorothy had not turned up in Toronto. Nell telephoned in evening to say that Doug. Nickle had a letter from her saying she would be there this week. Went up to see Mother. Called to enquire for Mr. Kyle. Went in to see Mrs. Leitch and then went to enquire for Mrs. Irvine. As she wanted to see me I went in. She is very very ill. Duncan was up in the evening. I wrote to Mrs. Luton, Mrs. Blair and Miss Small.

Saturday April 16th.

Cold and stormy. Quite a lot of Snow fell. Was out at 8 a.m. to show Mr. Phillips what to do in the garden but he could only work a short time as the weather got bad. Went to the office after dinner and did all the entries Mr. Caldwell has made since

Julius went away. Called at Public Library for some books. Vi Mair and Mr. Caldwell called after tea to get books. Wrote to Dorothy, Mrs. Goodeve and Mrs. Luttrell.

Saturday April 17th.

Cold. Sidewalks icy. Tulips are sticking up through the snow and looking very forlorn. Went to church twice and to S.S. Mr. Tuer preached on prohibition at night and it was 9 p.m. when we got out of church. Called on Mrs. Hooper after s.s. and after Church at night. Wrote to Gertie Cass in Korea and Irene Frazier.

Monday April 18th.

Another birthday. Went down town for Meat. At noon Alice Jean brought me a towel she had made me for my birthday. Voted on the Referendum in the Morning. Mrs. Hooper dressed and walked down to Wark's and voted. Studied my recitation. Went to afternoon train to meet Julius and Charlie. After Julius

had voted went down town with him. After tea Julius and I went up to see Mother. Mr. Tuer's Sermon very much discussed. General Judgment being that he did not state where he stood and did harm rather than good. He gave Mr. Davey some nasty publicity about {taulae?} which was not only undeserved but very injudicious. Alice & Charlie gave me a box of chocolates and Julius gave me $25 to buy my own birthday gift.

Tuesday April 19th.

Typed out "How Liege Held the Road" for Myrle Safana. Went down town for Meat. Wrote to Nell Frank and Mr. Farney. At 2.30 p.m. Dr. Rannie, Mrs. Ferguson and I went to the McDonald House to select books for the Public Library. Afterwards I went for a walk with Mrs. Ferguson & Mrs. M A. Halliday. After tea Julius and I went up to see Mr. Kyle and on the way home Joined Charlie and family in the orchard Where they had a big bonfire.

Wednesday April 20th.

Wrote some letters for Charles. Went to the Bank with the S.S. Collection. Rained after dinner. Wrote to Clare, Dorothy, Winnie Ferguson and Miss McEachran. Rained cleared up. Went down town to Charlie's store to look for curtains. (Charlie not in) I met Mrs. Ferguson and we went out to McManus Corner for a walk. When we got back to Davey's corner Mrs. Ferguson went home but I went on to the top of the hill and made it 2½ miles. First long walk for some time so felt tired to-night. Julius went to the McDonald House to call on the High School Inspector.

Thursday April 21st.

Showery. Got box ready and planted some More Snapdragon seed. Mr. McDonald and his men to take off the double windows, put up wire on tennis court, fix fence, gate, doors, etc. Busy seeing that Screens are right etc. Went down town for Meat. Studied Recitations.

Myrle phoned not to come until to-morrow. Spent the afteroon preparing Exam. papers (conundrums) for my School party on Tuesday night. (Schoolteachers and a few others I want to entertain). Wrote to Dorothy to thank her for a couple of Books. "Tales of Three Hemispheres" and "The Seeds of Enchantment which she sent me for my birthday. Charles went to Masonic Meeting. Thunder storm in the evening.

Friday April 22nd.

Raining nearly all day. Reviewed my recitations. Went to Mrs. Beattie's to see what roses to order for our hedge. After dinner (at 2 p.m.) went to Johnston's for my Elocution lesson. Then went down town and afterwards came home and went back again. Julius went to Charlie's store with me to look for curtains. After tea began work on my new recitation. Duncan here. Worked at my tray cloth for an hour in the Morning.

Saturday Apr. 23rd.

still showery. Mended stockings, learned recitation (part) Measured curtains. Went down to the office to get some work. Wrote 1 letter and 11 circular letters (2 at once), for Juius. Went to Recital at Alma's where I presented her prizes. Then went for a walk with Miss Millar Whom I met on the Street at Town Hall. After tea Julius went down to Irvine's, (Mrs. Irvine died this Morning) and I went to the Public Library where I helped Mrs. Ferguson until she closed up and then we went down town to do some shopping.

Sunday Apr. 24th. Raining in morning. Beautiful warm day. Went to church, Evangelical in the Morning and ours at night. Went to S.S. Mother came up after Church and stayed until S.S. time. Called on Mrs. Hooper (Charles and I) after S.S. At church at night Mr. Tuer took exception to Mr McDonald's note in The Enterprise connecting him with the "4 Ministers"

who did not give weight of influence to help Referendum. Also announced that he would go as soon as he got a call. Julius and Charlie went to the Manse to see him after church and Alice and I came on home where the men joined us later.

Monday April 26th.

Beautiful day. Wrote a letter for Julius & studied some history. Wrote to Lillian Esplen, Dorothy, Frank & Margaret Hewitt. Charles Julius went to Mrs. Irvine's funeral and acted as a pall-bearer. Went down to post letters and to pay some bills. Wrote to Clare, took it down to post & walked to Davison's for Julius ' laundry. Took it back to office and then went to the top of North hill for a walk. After tea Mr. J.E Campbell spent the evening until late train. Sat outside on Veranda, very warm. Went to late train with Mrs. Tuer to meet Mrs. Smith and carried her suit-case to

the Manse & went in for a few minutes.

Tuesday April 26th.

Very hot day. Discussed with Mr. Lipsett rose hedge etc. Studied recitation Typed Income Tax Returns (3 separately) for Julius. After dinner went down town and had a walk with Miss Evans. Mrs. Hooper called me (was out at the back) and I went over to see her. In the afternoon called at Mrs. Biehn's to invite her to postponed euchre party. Also at Mrs Beattie's (telephoned the others) After tea Mr. McNeel called and took me for a drive in his car. Then Julius and I went up to see Mr. Kyle and called at Charlie's on way home. Had riddles with children.

Wednesday April 27th.

Raining in the afternoon. Wrote a couple of letters for Julius. Went down town in the morning to do some shopping for euchre party at night. Called at Mrs. Beattie's. Plants arrived from Horticultural Society. After dinner dusted Dorothy's room and Spare

room, helped get out dishes bring down tables, arranged flowers etc. Then went down town for ham etc. At party (postponed on account of Frank's illness) Mr. & Mrs. Caldwell, Mr. & Mrs. Reid, Mrs. Leitch (Mr Leitch away). Dr. & Mrs. Mair, Mrs. Biehn, Mrs. Safana, Charlie, Alice, Grace Steven, Mr. & Mrs. Cobean, Mr. & Mrs. Beattie. (Dr. Biehn & Mr. Leitch away who were to be at other party and Alice & Grace took their places.) Had a nice time.

Thursday April 28th.

Beautiful day. Mrs. Beattie was here in the Morning and we planned out flowers etc. Then I went down there to return her cards. Planted My pink and blue border. Went to Johnston's at 3 o'clock for my elocution letter{lesson?}. Called at Crow's, Wilson's, Mc Donald's. Sanderson's, Davey's and at Dobie to invite Miss Evans and at Milne's to invite Miss Millar to a party to-morrow night.

Mr. Sears was here for tea. I superintended Mr. Phillips Who planted My yellow and purple border. Wrote to Clare and Dorothy.

Friday April 29th.

Rained all day and in evening. Busy in the Morning selecting the questions for examination papers for party. Went down town to do some shopping. After dinner typed the exam. papers. Helped make the sandwiches (had to go down town for more ham) and fix up boxes (lunch) and paper them up for my School party. Fixed flowers and got tea and ready for guests. Present: Mr. & Mrs. Wilson (H.S. Principal) Miss Millar & Miss Evans (of H.S. Staff) (Miss McCullough away for week end). Mrs. Leitch (Mr L away) and Mrs. Crow. Charlie and Alice, Mr. & Mrs. Sanderson, Mr. & Mrs. Davey, Mr. & Mrs. McDonald, Mr. & Mrs. McNeel, and Mrs. Beattie came to help me. Had Chocolate bars (9 kinds 2 of each) for selecting partners. Exam was

a Success and everybody had a good time. Alice and Mrs. Wilson won 1st prize (Box of Lemon and raspberry drops and a note book) and Mr. McNeel and Mr. Sanderson the booby (scribbling books.)

Saturday April 30th.

Much cooler to-day. Still cloudy. Darned my Stockings. Went down town for Meat. Duncan was up. "Lily" Bunn leaves to-day as she is not a success in the office. Went to the office in the afternoon. After tea called at the Manse to see Mrs. Smith who goes back to Toronto on Monday Morning & then went down to Public Library to change some books and stayed to help Mrs. Ferguson until closing time.

Sunday May 1st.

Quite Cold. Was wishing I had not put my fur coat away. Went to Church twice and to S.S. Called to see Mrs. Hooper after S.S. and found

her up. After church Charlie and Alice were up for awhile.

Monday May 2nd.

Went to the office. Did up "Life" & "N Y Times" at noon. Still cold. Spent the office afternoon in the office but called at the Manse on the way down. In the evening wrote to Frank, Nell, Miss Ward and Douglas Nickle (to send him recipe for Bakewell pudding.)

Tuesday May 3rd.

Went to the office and had a satisfactory day's work. After tea went to the Red Cros Meeting in the Council Chamber to hear Miss Clayton's address on Health Campaign of Red Cross. Went from there to Oddfellows' banquet, 196 at tables. Frenchman played "Marseillaise" on cornet. Good programme. Good eats. Charlie & Julius both spoke. Got home at Midnight.

Wednesday May 4th.

Spent the day at the office. Went to Miss Milne's in the Morning to select a style for my blue tricollete dress. After tea shampooed my hair. Cool so had fire in the library. Planted some holly hocks at noon

Thursday May 5th.

Spent Morning at the office. Went to Johnston's for my elocution lesson at 3 o'clock. Went on downtown and got some pansies. Went to Beattie's but no one at home. After tea spent some time in the garden directing Mr. Phillips. Then went to Beattie's with him for some phlox, Delphiniums, and sweet William. Afterwards wrote to Clare, Dorothy and Frank.

Friday May 6th.

Spent the day at the office. After tea went to Miss Meuses' Recital in the Methodist church basement. Then went from there to the Band Concert where Julius was chairman.

Saturday May 7th.

Fine day but still cool. Was at the office all day. (Went down in the Morning for Meat and took it home.) After tea went up to see Mr. Kyle - found him sitting up in the dining room, then called at Mother's. Mother just going to bed & only Isabel and Frances at home. At noon went to Mrs. Beattie's to see her about some seeds, no one there so went to barn where I found her.

Sunday May 8th.

Nice day but cool. Went to church twice and to S.S. Went to see Mrs. Hooper after S.S.; found her suffering a good deal of pain. Adjutant Martin arrived about 5.30. He went to church with us. Then we went over to the Town Hall where Mr. Martin gave an address on "The Work of the Salvation Army" He came to the house afterwards and I gave him a supper of sandwiches & tea and he left just after Midnight to drive to London.

Monday May 9th.

Went down town for Meat and bought it home, then went to the office. Called at Beattie's at noon but no one home. Bells came home from California on the noon train. Spent the afternoon at the office and after tea Charles and I called at the Bells. Watered my seed boxes at noon.

Tuesday May 10th.

Charles had to go to Durham to Court. Went on early train to Hanover and drove from there to return on late train. Spent the day at the office. Mr. Caldwell and I cleared out the filing cabinets. After tea went up to see Mother but she was out. Met Charlie and Allie coming down town so came back with them and went to the Public Library with Alice Jean to get books about battles of Somme & Vimy for History at school to-morrow. Nice day. Wrote to Dorothy. Received roses she sent me for Mother's Day (Sunday). Wrote to Frank.

Wednesday May 11th.

Charles had to go back to Hanover on the early train to take a case in the Court there. I went down for Meat and brought it home and went back for The Globe. Nothing to do at the office. Went to Charlie's store with a book for Margaret and Alice to get their note on Vimy & Somme out of.

Thursday May 12th.

Went to the office in the Morning. After dinner - (had lunch at a quarter to 12 and left at 12) Mr. & Mrs. Beattie, Julius and I went to Walkerton. Julius had a Meeting of "Mothers' Pensions Board" and Mr. Beattie and I went to Norrish's and got some plants - had ice cream at Erman's and went for a walk. Came home via Hanover and had to go around a block to miss road work. In Hanover Julius went to see Mrs. Gross in business. While Mrs. Beattie and I tried to procure some plants from the Horticultural

Society but no one in charge. Got home about 6 o'clock. Wrote to Clare. Mrs. Beattie, Julius and I went to the Methodist Church to hear Miss Frances Nickawa, the Cree Indian elocutionist who is said to be a Second Pauline Johnson. She was very good indeed in her Indian numbers and, although very homely when dressed in her white gown, looked quite presentable in her Indian costume. Not yet a Pauline Johnson. Cool East wind - one Short shower.

Friday May 13th

Few showers to-day. Was at the office. At 2 p.m. went to Johnston's for my last lesson in elocution as Myrle leaves next week. Went from there to the office and worked the rest of the afternoon. (Went to Miss Milne's in the Morning to fit My tricolette dress. After tea Mr. Lipsett, Reginald, Julius and I planted one rose hedge between Lipsett's and our garden. Mrs. Beattie sent up some

phlox and a delphinium root which I planted and then went down there with her pot. Found Mrs. Ferguson there. Recited "The Pilot of the Plains", "Marguerite de Roberval" "Rizpah" "Madeleine de Verchères "Fra Giacomo" "At Half Mast" and "Seventy-Nine". Went to the Station with Mrs. Beattie to take an express parcel up and then came home to find Duncan here as usual on Friday night.

Saturday May 14th.

Cool. Went for Meat in the morning which I send up with Jamie Thomson. Went to the office. Did a good day's work. At noon planted some flower seeds. After tea Mrs. Beattie came over and we planted about half our seeds in the back garden. Then went up to Mother's and took up Margaret's book as her birthday to-morrow. Mother not there so we called at Faulkness's to see Mother. Left Mrs. Beattie at Lustig's Where I got Milk and bacon.

Went to Station to meet Margaret Hewitt. Talked some time.

Sunday May 15th.

Quite cold day. Went to church, Julius, Margaret and I in the Morning. Went to S.S. After s.s. went to see Mrs. Hooper. Found her somewhat better. Julius and Margeret went to the "Anglican" church at night and, as I was tired, I stayed at home. Mother came up after church and Charlie called for her in the car.

Monday May 16th. Monday May 16th.

Did My Mending. After dinner Margaret and I went for a walk up to the cemetery via Baptist Church and back by 2nd Concession Street. Mrs. Beattie and I planted the rest of our flower seeds. Julius went to Mission Band entertainment (pictures of "Ben Hur". Both Margaret and I have bad colds. Wrote to Dorothy.

Tuesday May 17th.

As Margaret was feeling weak and wretched with her cold she spent the day in bed. Took up her meals and was up several times. Went to the office at 10 a.m. and worked until dinner time. Felt wretched after dinner so had a tiny snooze. As Margaret was sleeping went down to see Mrs. Tuer. Watered my borders planted some columbine and put aster seeds in round bed in front of library window. Wrote to Dorothy. Went down to post letter and to Public Library to help Josie Stanley who is taking Mrs. Ferguson's place while she is in Toronto.

Wednesday May 18th.

Little warmer to-day. Margaret stayed in bed until dinner time. I worked at the office all Morning and finished My letters and two probates at the house after dinner. Margaret was reading and writing letters so I wrote to Frank, Nell, Dorothy, Homer

Juker. (Wanted to bring an entertainment there) Miss McNaughton (for Mrs. McGregor and to Doug. Nickle to congratulate him upon passing his Exam (to be called to the bar to-morrow.) Went to post office to post my letters and called at Johnston's to say good bye to Myrle and Alwilda who leave in the Morning for Flint to visit Allie and then, being joined by Jean at Sarnia, got on to Edmonton.

Thursday May 19th.

Margaret stayed in bed all day. Dr. Rannie was up in the Morning & decided headache was from cold. Went to office & did some work. Finished it at home. Went to see Copey and Barbara Halliday and Mrs. Leslie. After tea went down town to get some Medicine for Margaret. Found Mrs. Beattie at {lacing?} barn & called on her there. Letter from Adelaide. Frank seems weaker. Think I must go out to P.A. {Prince Albert} when Dorothy comes home.

Friday May 20th.

Very warm. Went to office for awhile in the Morning. Margaret got up at 11 o'clock. Typed my letters at home after dinner. Tied up clematis. Margaret and I went for a walk. Went to Mrs. Beattie's before tea. Wrote to Clare & Dorothy. After tea watered my borders. Duncan was up and Mr. Parsons demonstrating the Hoover sweeper which Julius purchased.

Saturday May 21st.

Went down for Meat and did the entries, some letters and some filing at the office. In the afternoon Margaret and I went for a walk and after tea I planted some flower seeds and played tennis in Duncan's place until he came. (Miss Leslie, Julius & Mr. Caldwell the other three) Mrs. M.A. & Mr. M.A. called to see Mrs. Hewitt amd Mrs. Caldwell called also. Went to Public Library for awhile to help Josie Stanley. Charlie had a wire from Adelaide Saying Frank worse.

Sunday May 22nd.

Showery and thundery all day. Julius and I went to Church in the Morning and to S.S. A Meeting of teachers after S.S. Just at church time severe thunder storm was on. We did not go to Church. Charlie came up after Church and about 9.30 a telephone message from Dick said they had got a telegram saying Frank had gone.

Monday May 23rd.

Went up to see Mother in the Morning. Resigned to have Frank go that he may not suffer longer. Funeral is to be in Chesley. Wrote quite a number of letters for Charlie after dinner. (Planted my Morning glories and butterfly flowers before dinner.) Margaret and I walked down to Mr. William Elliot's Mill via Mill Street and came home via Long Street. Then I went downtown to write another letter and to get some

bread. After tea worked in the garden for an hour, then helped Mrs. Ryan cut up pineapples for preserving. Wrote to Dorothy and took my letter to the station walking back with Julius who had gone over to send a wire to Jack Reed.

Tuesday May 24th.

Rained Most of the night. Cooler but cloudy. Went to P.O. for the Mail before breakfast as this is a holiday. Did considerable work for Charles. Planted some seeds in the garden. Went for a walk to Mr. W. Elliot's Mill with Margaret. Washed my hair after tea. Mrs. Beattie was over for a few minutes. Raining in the evening.

Wednesday May 25th.

Cloudy and cool. Julius went to Owen Sound. (Motor-car) to attend a case. Typed account of Frank's life for Enterprise before breakfast. Typed 2 copies of Saskatchewan Probate (Had to be all typed. Took up one bed of tulips and went down town for the Mail.

After dinner took up the tulips in the other bed and Margaret and I went to call on Mrs. M.A. Halliday and then took a walk over Overhead Bridge. Did some gardening after tea and Mr. Phillips put in the geraniums and ageratums. Charles got home in time for tea.

Thursday May 26th.

Beautiful day. Went down for Meat in the Morning. Went down for the Mail after dinner (half holiday so no one got it) and spent the rest of the time with Margaret. Julius and I went to the station with her. After tea did some watering and went up to see Mother. Charlie, Alice, Grace Steven and I had a drive around the 5 Mile block & Charlie brought me home. (Before I went up the hill wrote to Mrs. McCaul & Dorothy and Mrs. Leitch and Mrs. Crow called to see me.

Friday May 27th

Beautiful day. Dusted Dorothy's room and Guest Room. Typed a poem for the scrapBook and cleared up Library. Went down town to do some shopping. Did some watering. Mr. & Mrs. McNeel and Mr. Tuer called in the evening. Mr. McNeel drove us to the station to meet Adelaide, her sister, Florence Hazelton, Nell, Dick, Doug, Clare & Jack. All went up to the house. Nell, Dick and Doug came back to stay at our house.

Saturday May 28th.

Nell and I drove up to the house in the Morning and Dick and Doug. went out to the Lillicos. At 10 o'clock we went up to the funeral. Isabel coming up to our house to play with Douglas. Frank looked very nice. Just as though he were sleeping. Mr. Tuer took the funeral service. Tidied up the room after the service was over. Nell stayed for tea. Charles, Isabel, Doug and I had tea at our house. I played

seven up with the children. Planted 36 asters after tea. Showery to-day. Thunder storm as the funeral left the house. Frank died in a thunder storm and was buried in a thunder storm. Poor Adelaide and poor Mother. Isabel and Doug went with Mrs. Ryan to have a ride on the Merry go round at the Park. (here for 3rd of June.) Heavy shower came up just after they left. Took coats and umbrella over to the park for them. Dick left on the afternoon train.

Sunday May 29th.

Beautiful day. Hot. Charles and I went to church in the morning. (Nell and Doug stayed at home.) Went to S.S. Patriotic Day. Children's Choir which also sang in church at night - the regular choir sitting in the back gallery. After s.s. we went to the cemetery and then on up to see Mother, Clare & the rest. The rest were out for a drive. After Church (Got sandwiches ready before I went)

Adelaide, Miss Hazelton, Alice, Clare, Jack, Charlie, Duncan, Isabel and Frances came up.

Monday May 30th.

Beautiful Mornng. Got up at half past five and went to train with Nell and Doug. All went away but Adelaide who is to remain for a few days. Called at the Manse on the way to the office. Worked rest of the morning and all afternoon at the office: (Wrote to Miss Small before breakfast. Went to Mrs. Beattie's and Mrs. Green's after tea. Mr. Wilson, Miss Millar and Miss McCullough called in regard to High School Float for June 3rd. Watered my geranium beds. Called on Mrs. Hooper and then went to the Manse with a church certificate. Was going up to see Adelaide but found she had gone for a drive to Tara.

Tuesday May 31st.

Beautiful day but cool. Spent the Morning at the office and the

afternoon until 2.30. Had my dress fitted in morning. Julius went to Walkerton to Went up to Mother's at 3 o'clock and Adelaide came back with me and had tea at our house. Charlie and Mother came up after tea and Charlie returned at 10 p.m. to take them home.

Wednesday June 1st.

Beautiful day. Still rather cool. Went to the office in the Morning. Fitted my dress. Went to office after dinner until 2.30. Julius went to Walkerton at 1 p.m. to a Trustee Association Meeting and got home at 11 p.m. Went up to Mother's at 2.45 p.m. and then went to the train to see Adelaide off. (Mother, Charlie Alice Jack and I.) Went back to office & worked until 6 o'clock. Went to Mrs. Beattie's for Snapdragon plants. Showed Mr. Phillips where to put them, helped him & put in some seeds. Went to the Manse to see Mrs. Tuer

but found everybody out.

Thursday June 2nd.

Nice day. Planted about 100 snapdragon plants. Went to the office. Miss Milne phoned for me but when I went down had someone from the country so am to go in the afternoon. Watered the snapdragons at noon. Spent the afternoon at the office. Planted nasturtiums after tea. Hunted out flags for Mr. Caldwell. Julius and I walked over to park to see Palmer's Circus (Merry-go-Round etc.) Then went to Mrs. Beattie's to see about parade for Horticultural Society. Came home for poles and then came home a second time for hat for Doris McCoy. Raining hard. Wrote to Clare.

Friday June 3rd.

Celebration day and it rained all night & did not clear up until late afternoon. Parade

at 11 a.m. instead of 10 a.m. Decorated the verandah with curtains only. Went down to school ground to help Mrs. Beattie assemble the children, vegetables and flowers, that Who represented the Horticultural float. Called on Mrs. Tuer and Miss Smith while I was waiting for Mrs. Beattie. As Races were called off in the afternoon, did not go to grounds but Julius did. Went to P.O. for mail. Spent an hour at the Manse. After tea typed report for London Free Press and Julius and I went to the concert in the rink. Movie "Mickey." Cleared up cold.

Saturday June 4th.

Quite cool. Spent the Morning at the office. Darned socks at noon. Went to office in the afternoon and after tea went to the Public Library to help Josie Stanley give out books. Julius and Mr. Caldwell had a game of tennis after tea.

Sunday June 5th.

Went to church twice and to S.S. Captain Lawson of Toronto occupied the pulpit both Morning and evening. He stayed at the hotel but was here for tea. Went to see Mrs. Tuer after Church in the Morning & found Mr. Tuer was home. Called on Mrs. Hooper after S.S. and Charlie came to take her for a drive. As she could not go I went out to McTavish's corner for a little drive. Armand and Mr. Halliday came over after tea and after church at night we went over to see Armand and Copey who go away in the Morning.

Monday Tuesday June 6.

Went to the office in the morning. At 1:30 p.m. went to Park for races, postponed from June 3rd., with Mr. & Mrs. Beattie and Mrs. Crow. Car parked between Mr. M.A. Halliday's and Mr. Walter Bunns's. Julius joined us for awhile but had to leave at 5 o'clock to go to the office with some

Men. I got home at 8.30 p.m. Last race driver fined $25 for not driving to {wire?} and another driver put in his place. Two horse had to run off and the pulled horse won. Typed report for London Free Press which Julius took to the Station. Fixed up S.S. collections (2 Sundays) and ordered Supplies and wrote letter enclosing Patriotic Sunday collection.

Tuesday June 7th.

Nice day. Still rather cool. Took S.S. Collection to Bank and got my three money orders away. Worked at office all Morning. Typed an article for Jack McDonald (Charles note on 3rd of June) for Enterprise. Wrote & typed an Editorial on The Parade for Jack and wrote up the Parade for him & took them to him. Worked at office in afternoon. Throat got very sore so went to Dr. Rannie's and had it burned. After tea watered My borders, Snap

dragons, and geraniums & planted some seeds. Went to Public Library and then went up to see Mother. Met her coming home from Faulkner's.

Wednesday June 8th.

Went down town for some groceries for picnic to Kincardine. A Deputation going to county council for Grant to Muskoka Consumptive Hospital. Charlie & Charles on deputation, our car (Charlie's) Charlie, Charles, Alice, Grace Steven, Jack and myself. Beautiful day. Stopped at Inverhuron for our dinner (wayside lunch) on the beach. Alice, Grace, Jack & I spent the afternoon lying on the Beach. At 6 p.m. Charlie and Charles arrive in Mr. Malcolm Marmon car and Mr. Malcolm drove us up to the Golf Links and showed us cottage on Golf property. Had

lunch on Kincardine Beach & left for home a few minutes after seven. Lovely drive home. Route - Tiverton, Underwood, Lovat, Paisley. Got home about 9 p.m.

Thursday June 9th.

Fine day. Little shower in the Morning. Spent some time trying to get earring out of Mrs. Ryan's ear. Went to the office in the Morning. Half-holiday. Went up to see Mother in the afternoon and took her some snapdragon plants. Charlie, Duncan, Frances & Isobel drove me home in the car via William Elliot's Mill. Watered all my flower beds. Charles & Mr. Caldwell played tennis at 5 p.m. and after tea Duncan came up and played with his Uncle Charlie & found out how little he knew about the game. Darned my stockings. Mrs. Ryan went to Dr. Morgan and it took him about 15 min. to get her ear

ring out of her ear and she has a very sore ear. Duncan stayed for the evening. Wrote to Clare, Sophia Albright (for Clare) Mrs. Blair and Nell,

Friday June 9 10th.

Very hot. At the office all day. Duncan up at noon. Harold Mair & Bert Krug came up to play tennis with Charles & Mr. Caldwell who beat them. Mrs. Beattie and I planted some Swiss chard & some Chinese cabbage. A thunder storm stopped the game and our gardening. Wrote to Mr. Phillips and Mrs. Pringle.

Saturday June 11th.

Rained Most of the night with a few Showers in the Morning. Spent the day at the office. Mr. Caldwell & Charles played Harold Mair & Bert Krug at tennis. "Antiques" beat. Planted out some flowers and weeded some of back flower garden. Went to Public Library. Mrs. T. not home yet?

called at the Manse to ask Mr. Tuer to take S.S. to morrow as M.A. ill with lumbago. Very cool in the evening.

Sunday June 12th.

Nice day but cool. Went to church & S.S. Mother came up after church. Went over to M.A.'s to get hymns for S.S. Called on Mrs. Hooper. Went to church at night. Only Charlie there so he did not come up. Fire in grate in evening.

Monday June 13th.

Did some work in the garden before breakfast. Went to the office. Went back after dinner. Got through about 4 o'clock and went to see Mrs. Leslie. Called in the Morning to see Mrs. Leitch. After tea did some weeding. Charles, Mr. Caldwell, Harold Mair & Roy Reid played tennis. Went to Meeting of Public Library Board. Not enough there- just Dr. Rannie Mr. C. Ankenmann & Myself so Meeting postponed. Quite cool all day & especiallly so at night. Mr. Lamb putting oak floor down in hall upstairs.

Tuesday June 14th.

As Charles going to Walkerton at 11.30 a.m. & busy getting case ready I did not go to the office but spent the Morning working in the garden while Duncan and Mr. Tuer played tennis. Warmer but still cool. Went down for Mail in afternoon, case settled in Walkerton so Charles got home earlier than he expected. Isabel came up with me to look for paper dolls. Went down town for Meat & to get her a Ladies Home Journal. Watered and weeded after tea while Charles, Mr. Caldwell, Bert & Harold played tennis Learned a new recitation "Poppies" after tea.

Wednesday June 15th.

Fine day. Did a little weeding before breakfast. Went to the office. At noon called to see Mrs. Beattie. Went to office for afternoon. Weeded and watered after tea. Harold & Roy Reid played Mr. Caldwell & Charles after tea. "Antiques" won. Charles and I went to the station to meet Dorothy.

Mrs. Ferguson came home, too, so we went round to her home with her. As usual Dorothy and I talked until midnight.(Watered & weeded.)

Thursday June 16th.

Nice day. Went to the office in the afternoon morning. Half holiday. Went to store with Dorothy in the Morning. Dorothy & Mr. Caldwell played Charles & Mr. Tuer at tennis - Dorothy & Mr. C. winning. I wrote to Clare and Nell. In the evening went to a party out at Smellie's with the Beattie's. Had good time. Good crowd there. Recited "Seventy-nine" and "Marguerite De Roberval. Came home in Mr. Smellie's car. Rained hard in night.

Friday June 17.

Fine day. Went to office in Morning and in afternoon for awhile. At noon went to see Mrs. Beattie. At 4.40 p.m. Dorothy called at office & we had ice cream at Buckley's and came home. Did some gardening. Charles, Mr. Caldwell, Harold Mair & Roy Reid played tennis. Went

down to the Manse (after doing a little gardening) with some snap dragons. Charleie & Allie & Duncan were here when I got home.

Saturday June 18th.

Stayed home in the Morning and was busy mending all forenoon. Went to the office in the afternoon. Mother came up and stayed for tea. Went up with her to give Isabel her book & ball for her birthday. Called at the Public Library & got some books.

Sunday June 19th.

Was sick all night (old pain in my side) and stayed in bed until 10 o'clock. Mother came up after church. Went to S.S. Charlie called for Mother. Went over to see Mrs. Hooper. Did not go to church at night. Went down to the Manse with a pulpit notice. Charlie & Alice and Margaret were up after church at night.

Monday June 20th.

Washed my hair in the Morning. Called at the Manse on the way to the office in the afternoon. Watered the flower beds after tea. Dorothy played tennis in the afternoon and Charles had to go to the country. Wrote a note to Clare after tea. Mr. Vickers finished the floors up this afternoon.

Tuesday June 21.

Helped Dorothy make a cord for her blue sweater. Went to the office & was kept busy until 5.30 p.m. Watered my flower beds and weeded a bed at the back. Dorothy, Vi Mair, Mr. Caldwell and Charles had a game on so of tennis. Charles and I went to a party at Miss Smellie's (given for Mr. Jas. Smellie) Recited "Marguerite De Roberval" and "Poppies". Present: Mr. & Mrs. Bell, Miss Bell, Dr. & Mrs. Rannie, Mr. & Mrs. Leitch, Mr. & Mrs. Chas. Smellie, Mr. James Smellie, Mr Wm. Smellie, Mrs. Maxwell, Mrs.

Crow, Mrs. Biehn, Mrs. Stewart, Mrs. Ferguson, Mrs. Beattie and Charlie. (Allie too tired to go). Awfully hot.

Wednesday June 22nd.

Very hot. Got furniture back into llbrary this morning. Put the shells back on the shelf. Went to the office & was busy all the time. At noon made the balls for Dorothy's sweater. At office until 6 p.m. Weeded under the flag pole. Went down to the Manse to get S.S. stamp but although doors all open no one answered the bell. Dorothy down at Mair's as Vi keeping house.

Thursday June 23rd.

Very hot. Spent Morning at the office. Called at Manse on the way down to get S.S. stamps. Dorothy caught up to me there and went down town with me. After dinner Mr. M.A. H. called up and asked me to go to the S.S. convention in Paisley. He, Florence Leslie and I went in his

"limosine." Charlie gave an address which was very good. Mr. Fletcher outside speaker. Got home about 6.30 p.m. After tea I went down for the Mail (holiday) and then watered the flower beds with hose. Mrs. Beattie and I then adjourned to the back yard & had a weeding bee. Mts. Beattie came in and stayed awhile. Dorothy out. Somewhat cooler to-night.

Friday June 24th.

Cooler to-day. A couple of very tiny showers. Planted the bed next tennis courts with Celosia and Snapdragon before I went to the office. While home at noon wrote to Irene Frazier and Jean Maxwell. Typed poem for Mr. Tuer and took it to the Manse on the way to office. No one answered bell so put it on piano. Dorothy had Ida Halladay, Jean Krug and Vi Mair here playing bridge. After tea went to Musicale at Mrs.

Campbell's and recited "Marguerite de Roberval." Duncan spent the evening here. Charles at church decorating for Red Cross service on Sunday. Dorothy went to dance. Called at Manse again at 6 p.m. to see that Mr Tuer got the poem. Wrote to Clare. Stamped the tickets (207) (for the S.S. picnic to Southampton on July 7th.) at noon.

Saturday June 25th.

Hot day. Went for meat in the Morning and brought it home. Then took S.S. collection to bank and went to the office. Mr. Caldwell went to Owen Sound in the afternoon. I was at the office. Charles and I walked around by the church, to see decorations for Red Cross Sunday. After tea watered the flower beds and cut the grass around the geranium beds while Charles mowed the lawn as Mr. Phillips still laid up.

Mrs. Beattie came over and we weeded a couple more flower beds. Dorothy out.

Sunday June 26th.

Awfully hot day. Went to church twice and to S.S. Charles spoke at the Oddfellows' Decoration service at the Cemetery in the afternoon. As it was so hot I did not go up. Dorothy went down to stay with Mrs. Tuer while we were at church at night and I called for her after church. Red Cross Sunday so I stayed after church to help take down our flags. Charles and Alice were up for awhile. Wrote letters of sympathy to Mrs. Gillies, Nicola, and Mrs. (Dr.) June Halliday, Minto, N.D.

Monday June 27th.

Very hot day. As I was not needed at the office this morning I spent the Whole Morning weeding. Fixed up the border under the dining room windows. Got my S.S.

collection ready and took it down after dinner. Did some work for Mr. Caldwell. Charles was not feeling well so went home early. After tea did the watering. Then knit at Dorothy's baby sweater and wrote to Miss Ward & Delphine Mainwaring.

Tuesday June July 28th.

Hot again - looked like rain but didn't rain. Worked all Morning in the garden - weeded and dug the border behind the play house. Charles went to Owen Sound on a case. Left here at 11.30 a.m., got back about 8.30 p.m. Went down for the Mail & paper called at office - not needed. Went up to see Mrs. Marklevitz. Knit 26 rows on Dorothy's baby Jacket (for Eva Nellon) and Mrs. Beattie came over and we did some more weeding. Cooler to-night.

Wednesday June 29th.

Very hot day. Knit 26 rows on Dorothy's sweater and finished one front. Took some arrowroot over to Mrs. Hooper who has not been so well. Went to the office in the Morning and went back for awhile in the afternoon. Went around to Leslie's to get Florence to come & play tennis. I watered the flowers while Dorothy, Florence, Mr. Caldwell & Mr. Mickle played. Dorothy and I went to hear the Napierville College Glee G Club. Very good.

Thursday June 30th.

Got up at 5.50 a.m. & went to station to see Charlie away to N.Y. and Duncan Toronto. Charlie to drive back with Jack & Clare. Weeded in vegetable garden (with Charles) for an hour before breakfast. At 9. a.m. Dorothy and I started for Walkerton with Charles & Mr. Beattie. While Charles attended Mothers' Pension Meeting Dorothy & I

did some shopping, had some ice cream, called on Mrs. Sinclair. Got home about 1 o'clock. Hottest day yet, I think. Knit the other half of Second sleeve in D's Sweater. Went down town. Called at Manse with ice cream brick. After tea watered the garden & weeded for over an hour in the partnership garden (flower) Charles at Preparatory Meeting and Dorothy at Bijou.

Friday July 1st.

Charles bowling all day in Bowling Tournament. I went down for Morning Mail On the way down called at Mrs. Hooper's with her paper. On the way back called at the Manse. Went down for the Mail in the afternoon and called at the Manse with some watermelon. Went over to get Mrs. Ferguson to go to Southampton to-morrow. Found her in bed with an b abscess. Went down town and got some ice cream. Took some to Mrs.

Ferguson & some to Mrs. Hooper. After tea watered and weeded. Dorothy spent the day mostly in bed trying to keep cool. Awfully hot day. 104° on Mr. Leitch's thermometer when I was down town.

Saturday July 2nd.

Hottest day yet I think. Got up at 5.30 a.m. and started for Southampton. At 6.30 a.m. Charles had to go over. Took Isabel and Frances. Sat on beach awhile & then went to McNeel's Cottage. Isabel & Frances went in for a swim with Burdet and Charles, getting through early, called at Mrs. Whitby's cottage, got a bathing suit and went in too. The girls and I went to the Whitney cottage later, then we called at the Leitch shack (no one there) and then went to hotel for our dinner and got home about 2.15. Found Dorothy preparing sandwiches etc. for a tea for Jean Maxwell & Viola Mair. Helped her and went down town.

for some groceries for her. Jen Krug phoned asking her to go to Southampton so she left at 5.45. to spend the week end there. After tea I watered the beds and then went over to Mrs. Ferguson's. Went down town for her mail and her shoe. Took them back. Then went to Mrs. Beattie's with a message & finding she had a sore heel came home and got rubber inheels for her & took them over. Went to late train to meet Winnie Ferguson. Train 40 Minutes late.

Sunday July 3rd.

Hot as ever & no sign of rain. Went to church & called to see Mrs. Ferguson after church. Found her somewhat better. Went to S.S. Did not go to church at night. Mr. M.A. came over. Did some watering to cool off the front. Alice did not come up as Charlie away & walk long & hot. Dorothy got home about 10 p.m. Spent evening trying to keep cool.

Monday July 4th.

Was at the office morning and afternoon. Called to see how Mrs. Ferguson was and then went over to Mrs. Beattie's and she came up and got some plants. After tea Charles, Dorothy, Mother and I went to Hanover. Dorothy went to Engel's and Mother and I went to see the Hahns. As Dorothy had gone for a drive with Dorothy Engel we had wait a half an hour at Engel's for her. 84° in the dining room.

Tuesday July 6th.

Went to the office morning and afternoon. Called at the Manse at noon to see the new baby boy who arrived at a quarter to 10 a.m. Went over to see how Mrs. Ferguson was and called at Mrs. Beattie's and Mrs. B came back with me to get some plants. Awfully hot. Dorothy & I went to the Library for some books, calling at the Manse on the way so Dorothy could see the

baby. Went Met Alice & little Jack who were going up to our place. Dorothy got some ice cream which we had when we got home. Mr. McDonald was there too. Walked to corner with Alice and stayed with Mrs. Tuer while Grace Steven (Nurse) went to get some clothes. Watered.

Wednesday July 6th.

Hot as ever. 86° in dining room. Made cord and tassels for Dorothy's Mauve sweater. Went to the office and to Miss Milne's and fitted My dress. Dorothy Engel, Mrs. McAlpine (Clara Wright) and her baby Isabel arrived about 11.30 a.m. to spend the day. Went back down town at noon for Ice cream bricks. Went to office in afternoon after playing with young Isabel for an hour. Got home about 5.00 p.m. Girls had tea. Watered. Dorothy left for Southampton at 6.20 p.m. for week end with Wellington & Jen Krug

Ida Hallady & Ethel Reid and then Dory Englel and friends left. M. Halliday came over to make arrangements for the picnic tomorrow. Went down to Manse to see Mr. Tuer about going. Then went down to Green's to arrange for Mrs. Green and 3 boys to go with Mr. Mickle to-morrow. Little breeze late at night.

Thursday July 7th.

Very hot. S.S. picnic day. Decided to go to Port Elgin (Nelson's Grove) instead of Southampton so as to have some shade on the beach. Charlie had go to Court in Tara so left at 8.15 a.m. (was up before 6.) and called at John Green's and took Mrs. Green & the children with him & sent the car on to Port Elgin with them & had it come back for him. He got to picnic in the afternoon. I went to the church and helped Mr. Halliday get the cars away. Over 100 went. Then I went to the office until noon.

ar 3 p.m. (holiday) I went to Tuer's and Mrs. Green and I minded the baby. Mrs. Green went at 5 p.m. to get Jim's tea and I kept the babe until 6.30 when Grace Steven got up from her sleep. Went down for the Mail. Charles got home about 10 p.m.

Friday July 8th.

Very hot. Cloudy and storms all around but all the rain we got in the morning was a couple of showers neither of which lasted over 3 or 4 minutes. Went to the office & was there in the afternoon too. Got home about 5.30. Cut down my anchusa. After tea watered and the weeded under the flag pole. Charles went to Methodist Garden Party at Garner's with Misses Leitch, McNeel and Kellerman. Couple of 5 minutes showers but blissfully cool. Washed my collar & sewed it in my dress again. Alice & Keith

called to say that Nell was coming to-morrow. Mr. Caldwell got a Ford car & is taking his holidays. Went to Southampton Tuesday, Port Elgin Wednesday, Owen Sound Thursday. McCullough's Lake Friday Afternoon.

Saturday July 9th.

Beautiful rain in the Morning but hot again when it was over. Was at the office Morning and afternoon. Clare, Jack, Charlie & Duncan arrived in Clare's car (from New York) about 7 p.m. Weeded the round bed of asters by Library Window. (Water off to instal new electric pump. Went off just at tea time) Charles and I went up to see Clare. As bridge is down we had to walk around by the dam. Dark walk. Then went to store 10 p.m. to see Jack.

Sunadt July 10th.

Very warm. Went to church in the Morning. Charles and I went in to the Manse to see Baby Tuer. Went to

s.s. & as promised went in to see Baby Tuer again. Found Clare, Jack, Mother, Charlie, Alice & Baby Jack here when we came home. No water until 9.15 a.m. this Morning and no Hydro until about 6 p.m. Was tired so did not go to church at night. After church Jack called with his car & took Grace Steven and I for a drive. Dorothy got home from Southampton about 10 p.m.

Monday July 11th.

Hotter than ever. Was at the office all day. Weeded play house border after tea. Clare, Jack, Isabel, Duncan, Margaret & Sophia started in car for the Lake this Morning. Spent the day at the office. Watered the flowers and weeded by the playhouse.

Tuesday July 12th.

Went to Miss Milne's in the Morning and spent day at the office (Mr. Caldwell taking his holidays but home to-day) Planted out snap dragons near the flag pole after tea. Celebration in Walkerton - very quiet here. Wrote to Aunt Maggie & Aunt Anaise. Hot.

Wednesday July 13th.

Still as hot as ever. Was at Miss Milne's and busy at the office all day. Mended Charles' coat at noon and wrote to Nell. Did some watering after tea. Called at Mrs. Beattie's and went to see Mrs. Hooper. Dorothy had Ethel Reid, Mar. McDonald and Vi Mair here playing bridge and I went down for Ice cream for them. Wrote to Miss McEachran (whose Mother died last Wednesday) and to Elizabeth Whitting (to send her picture of the play house.)

Thursday July 14th.

Was at Miss Milne's in the Morning. Worked hard at the office until half past twelve. Very hot in the Morning but cooled off somewhat towards noon & we had a nice little shower. As Mr. McNeel had to go to see Mr. J.H. Turner near Kincardine Charles, Miss Mary Milne and I went along. It was a beautiful drive - nice cool afternoon. While we were at the

Turner's Miss Milne and I visited with Barbara Turner (who was entertaining her fiance Jim Kincaide) and Mr. McNeel and Charles each rode the binder for awhule. We went back to Inverhuron Beach and lunched and then called at the Campbell cottage with some parcels for Mrs. Sanderson. Beautiful sunset. Had a nice drive home, having ice cream in Paisley on the way. A very pleasant afternoon.

Friday July 15th.

Was at the office all day. Mending Dorothy's clothes and puttting "2 " on her bathing suit between times. Watered the Snap dragons and did some weeding. Went to Meeting of Book Committee of Public Library Board and helped select new books. Hot but cooler at night.

Saturday July 16th.

Cool breeze but very hot in sun. Was at office all day with doses of mending

at noon. Did the watering at night and weeded the California some of the new grass spots (where flower beds were) Went to Mrs. Ferguson's at noon with "List of Books" and cheque for Horticultural Society. Also called at Mrs. Beattie's to tell her Charles had weeded up our Chard and Chinese Cabbage. Went to late train with Dorothy who goes to camp to-night. Frances went with her and she was to meet Floyd Buell on the train. Mrs. Ferguson called with a book about 10 o'clock and stayed until after 11. Went to the back gate with her. Pleasantly cool at night.

Sunday July 17th.

Sun still very hot & no rain. Went to church in the Mornng. Charlie and family motored to Oliphant and took Mother as far as Tara. Went to S.S. After S.S. Charles went up to see Mr. Bell who was bitten yesterday by a dog. I went to see Mrs. Hooper

after church and to get Aldyth to go to s.s. so as to be ready to take my place while I am away. I went to Church at but Charles stayed at home. Still hot. After church we went to see Armand & Copey. Wrote to Walk-Over shoe Strap and Mrs. Blair.

Monday July 18th.

Rained during night. Thunder Storm. Was up closing windows. Went to the office and to the store to see about Dorothy's hat, to Cavill's for same purpose - 3 times. Very heavy showers in Morning, afternoon & evening. Tied up some of the gladiolii. Mrs. Beattie and Mrs. Ferguson were here in the evening. Wrote to Walk-Over, Elizabeth Whittey, Miss Ward and Dorothy. Still raining and pleasantly cool.

Tuesday July 19th.

Not Scorching hot. Did some weeding in the Morning & some Mending.

Went to the office Morning and afternoon. 1st day of Chautauquay {Chautauqua} but did not go in the afternoon. Called at the Manse in the evening. (1st at Mrs. Hooper's but she was quite ill so did not see her.) Charles and I went to the Chautauquay {Chautauqua}. Very good.

Wednesday Tuesday July 20th.

Nice day. Did some weeding in the Morning. Was at the office morning and afternoon. Did some Mending at Noon. Called at the Manse. Mr. Tuer going away & Miss Tuer & Mrs. Tuer in charge of baby. Charles and I went to Chautauquay {Chautauqua}. Alice Louise Schrode The Child Wonder Elocutionist and trained birds, pony, cats, dogs, monkeys etc. good.

Thursday July 21.

Montreal who gave a splendid lecture. Mr. Wheel, Major Runnels, Mr. McDonald & Mr. Sanderson went for a drive and Mr. McNeel & Mr. Runnels came up for tea. I went to {Ross'?} for ice cream with Mr. & Mrs. Leitch and Mrs. McNeel. Made a salad for tea. Went to Chautauquay {Chautauqua} at night. Gilvan Light Opera Singers in "Last party programme was Part of Gilbert & Sullivan's "Ruddygore". Charles gave a little announcement about the new contract etc.

Friday July 22nd.

Did some Mending. Was at office in the Morning. Went to Walkerton in the afternoon. Charles had to go over on a Magistrate's case & got Mr. Caldwell to drive us & Mrs. Caldwell & Clarice went along. He had ice cream. Saw the Monument draped with a flag. Old Home Week starts to-morrow.

Got home at 5 p.m. Went to the office & worked until 6. Went to Chautauqua - Dr. Poole's fine lecture (with {views?}) on Allenby's campaign.

Saturday Juky 23rd

Was at the office all day. Went to Chautauqua very early. Charles had to stay to see a man from Hanover but got there in time. Did some Mending & called at the Manse at noon. Called for Mrs. Leitch to go to play & then for Mrs. Crow & went with her. Play "It Pays to Advertise" Percy Vivian in charge. Very good indeed.

Sunday July 24th.

Union Service in Evangelical Church in the Morning, ours at night. Mr. Kellerman preaching. Went to church twice and to S.S. Charles went to Walkerton to speak at Oddfellow's Decoration Service. Left at 1 p.m. Got back at 6.30 p.m. I went up to see Mother in the afternoon. Went

by W. Elliot's Mill & came back by the dam (bridge still down) then went to S.S. Washed my hair when I came home. (Marion Leslie came up for some books for her Mother.) Charles and I went to Church at night. Eula McQueen sang two solos "Beyond the Dawn" & "Crossing the bar." good. Copey & Armand called in the evening. Did some of my packing.

Monday July 25th.

Very hot. Got up early & packed. Went down town to do some shopping. Called to see Mrs. Hooper. Charles and I left on noon train for Oliphant. Harold Wright, Dorothy & Clare met us in Wiarton (as Clare's car not going.) The men mowed Charlie's back yard & had a great bonfire of grass in the evening. Went up for the milk in Clare's car (now fixed) with Charles, Duncan, Clare and Baby Jack.

Tuesday July 26th.

Hot but nice breeze. Everybody got up early as Charlie supposed to be going home early but he had to wait for {?} Case so did not get away until 8.30. Went in for a Morning swim. Have not forgotten how. Wrote an address to Mrs. Breman, presentation to be made on Thursday at Mrs. Beattie's. Wrote to Mrs. Ryan & Mr. Caldwell. Had a quiet time in the hammock a while in the afternoon. Was over to Charlie's a couple of times. Went up in the car for the milk. Read "Jackie". Went out past Middlebro's for a walk to see car stuck in sand. Started to rain, came back in Howard Wright's car.

Wednesday July 27th.

Had my morning service. Finished "Jackie." Did up my work. 2 calls at Charlie's. Worked at my centre piece. Wrote to Miss Sewell, Mother & Mr. Caldwell. Several heavy showers in the afternoon. Went up to Engel's to see if Dorothy was going to stay all night.

Thursday July 28th.

Nice cool breeze. Clare, Duncan, Doug. Nell, Margaret and I went in to Wiarton to do some shopping. Rained. I waited at the top of the hill with the parcels while Duncan brought the car over (He did not want to go down the hill for fear of the police - having no license) Beautiful view out over the Bay. Wrote a letter for Charles. Was lazy in the afternoon and read "A Lantern of Love." Went down to the boat-house to see Jack working at Naidauac. Walked up to the Golf Links to tell the folks dinner was ready. Bonfire of cut grass in the evening. Had Morning Swim.

Friday July 29th.

Hot this Morning. Had fine Swim. Water lovely. Furniture arrived from Walkerton. Went to the store twice for Clare. Wrote a letter for Charles. Called at Charlie's. Went for a walk with Grace Steven, Laura Lamont, Allie, Isabel, Margaret

and baby Jack up past Middlebro's.

Saturday July 30th.

Had good swim but water rough. Clare, Jack, Charles, Nell, Allie, Doug & Baby Jack went to Southampton (to see Jack's brother-in-law. Had snooze in the hammock. Dorothy went to Wiarton with Cellie Clarke. In the afternoon started up to P.O. for Mail. Miss Chambers caught up & took me up in her car. Dr. Biehn walked up part of the way with me. Isabel had to take a message to Mr. S.M. Ewart at Carder's cottage so I went with her. (Mr. Wm. Ross died out West) Called at Davey's on the way back, no one in. Family home when we got back. Big wind storm. Very peculiar light as the sun was shining through the rain which was very heavy. Great wind storm all night.

Sunday July 31st.

Very windy & quite cool. Went for my swim but the water was too rough to swim much. Charlie arrived about 11 o'clock with Alice Jean & Maude Steven. Great excitement unpacking Harold Wilson package etc. Went to church in the afternoon. Mr. Hardy preached & Misses Ruth Chambers & Lilian Clarke sang solos. After dinner called on Daveys & Biehns.

Monday Aug. 1st.

Swam - water cool. Clare did not go in. Called at Charlie's cottage. Isabel and I walked up to the P.O. to post a letter. Went up in the afternoon for the m Being civic holiday in Chesley Mr. Caldwell brought his family up in the afternoon. The Caldwells, Allie, Grace, Alice Jean, Charlie, Maude, Laura L., Bud & Jack went for a run out in the Lake and had their picnic at the Castle. Isabel and I went for the Mail. Had a fire

in the grate when the picnicers got home & the Caldwell children went in for a swim. They left abput 9.30.

Tuesday Aug. 2nd.

Had my swim. Clare did not go in. I was only female in. Went to Wiarton in the afternoon. Clare, Duncan, Isabel, Allie, Nell & I to do some shopping. Worked at baby sweater for Dorothy.

Wednesday Aug. 3rd.

Went in for a swim, Clare being along. Water fine. Knit at Dorothy's black sweater. Margaret & Sophia moved up above the garage to-day. I swept my room, Dorothy's, front room, hall & stairs. Went out in the Naidauac after ten. Jack, Clare, Nell, Gracce, Baby Jack, Doug, Isabel Kastner, & myself. When turned back just out in the channel engine went bad. Clare and I paddled part of the way back, then the engine started again. Dorothy & about 14 other young people went to Pt. Elgin for dinner

& then to the dance at Southampton.

Thursday Aug. 4th.

Had my swim. Jack, Julius, Duncan, Alice Jean, Frances and I went to Chesley in the car. (Julius had to go to Mr. Wm. Ross' funeral.) Went to the house (arrived 2.30 p.m.) and then went down town to do some shopping. Flower borders looked very pretty. Got back about 8.30 p.m. Left our valise behind in Charlie's car. Hot at home nice breeze at the Lake. Mother came back with us & Alice & Frances are to return with their dad on Saturday.

Friday Aug. 5th.

Had my swim. paid my daily call at Charlie's cottage. puttied the windows for garage bedroom. Finished one Small one and did 1/4 of the big one. The crowd went out to fish. Went down to the dock with Mother to meet them.

Saturday Aug. 6th

Heavy showers at intervals all day. puttied the rest of the large window.

and 3/4 of a small one. Worked in the garage & in Margaret & Sophia's room upstairs. Drove to Wiarton after tea with Duncan, Clare, Baby Jack, Isabel, Doug & Nell.

Sunday Aug. 7th.

Much cooler & windy. Isabel, Doug, Alice, Margaret, Mary & Margaret Stevens, Keith, Frances and I walked down to the Castle and back (6 miles) Lake fine down there. White caps & good big waves. Went to Church. Mr. Campbell preached & Mrs. Nichol sang a solo. Saw Edith MacGilivray who is spending her holidays at the Nichols. After dinner Dorothy went for a walk & the rest for a drive in the 2 cars. Sophia & Margaret had visitors. I stayed home & read.

Monday Aug. 8th.

Cool and windy. Water coldest yet but had my morning swim. Finished the garage windows doing one Small window and a quarter? Clare, Nell & I walked up for the Mail. Had a walk to the dock.

Tuesday Aug. 9th.

Warmer but windy. Had my Swim. Clare did not go in. Clare, Duncam, Jack, Baby Jack and I went in to Wiarton for Mattress etc. Mother and Charlie, Margaret & Mary Stevens left for home. Saw them in Wiarton. Dorothy went down to the Sauble after returning from dance at Southampton (spent the night in Wiarton with Margaret Kastner). Went to P.O. for Mail. Picked up by an automobile - ride both ways. After dinner Doug & Clare rowed out to channel to see a Chatham launch which came in the Morning. Nell and I went along & Doug & I rowed back (1 1.4 miles). Wrote a letter for Charles.

Wednesday Aug. 10th.

Very windy. Had my Swim - cool. Clare did not go in. Just Jack, Julius, Duncan, Doug. And I. Dorothy going to Owen Sound to Golf Tournament with Ollie Clark & Stewarts. Got her lunch ready. Did some washing. Wrote a letter for Charles & wrote to Miss McEachran. Went up to the Golf links twice ( or 1 1/2 times) and went up for the Mail. On 2nd way to Golf Links called at Mrs. James Clarke's. Charlie 'phoned that Duncan had passed both his Normal Entrance & Matric.

Thursday Aug. 11th.

Water lovely this Morning. Swept my own room & Dorothy's. Cleaned my black & white shoes. Started to rain about 10 a.m. Clare, Dunc Duncan, Allie, Jack, Baby Jack and I went to Wiarton to shop. Met the Beattie's coming out to Oliphant. Went over to Biehn's to Call & met them coming to our place. Went in for a second Swim. Called

at Biehn's to say good-bye to Beattie's (Mr & Mrs. & Miss) Nellie Elliot & Miss Pearson. Went to the annual concert which was held in the church on account of the rain. Charles Chairman.

Friday Aug. 12th.

Ja Had my Morning swim. Jack, Clare, Duncan, Charles and I started for Kincardine about 10.30 a.m. to see Jack's uncle and aunt. Men with their golf clubs along. Had dinner at Queen's, Pt. Elgin. When reached Southampton Charles hunted up Mr. Malcolmson and they went up to play golf. Clare and I walked around the course with them. Dined at Queen Royal Hotel where we put up, then went to call on Mr. & Mrs. J.R. Reed.

Saturday Aug. 13th.

Went to Golf links about 8.30 a.m. Clare & I purchased a book & Magazine respectively and sat in the car & read. Then walked part way

Helped serve the lunch when they arrived.

Tuesday Aug. 16th.

Windy still. Swim fine. Alice, Keith, Duncan, Jack, Charlie, Julius, Tom, Teddy and I in. Did Tom's room up. Went to Wiarton for stores with Duncan, Clare, Baby Jack, Nell & Doug. Had a couple of walks down to the dock. Lovely moonlight-night. Charles and I had a walk on the dock while Charlie and Jack worked at the boat.

Wednesday Aug. 17th.

Windy, water cool, swim fine. Clare, Teddy, Grace, Nell, Doug, Baby Jack and I went to Wiarton. Stores closed but had some ice cream, got D's laundry and borrowed some law books from Mr. Moore. Started to rain while we were there and rained until late in the evening. Helen McAulay arrived from Southampton to see Teddy. Charlie & Jack worked at boat until 11 p.m.

Thursday Aug. 18th.

Wind got up again but promises better weather to-morrow. Men trying to get boat to go so they can get away on the Shore

trip. Helped get lunch. Did uo two rooms, called at Charlie's (daily event) etc. Went down to the boat house a couple of times and enjoyed the Moonlight.

Friday Aug. 19th.

Had My Morning swim. Pretty cool. Great scurrying around to get the Men away on their camping trip, as the Naidauac could not be coaxed to go. Mr. Dowkes took his boat with the cabin in and they took the Jutland & the steel boat as trailers. Party: - Charlie, Jack, Julius, Tom Neelands, Bud, Mr. Dowkes, Fred went by boat and Duncan and Teddie drove up in the Ford to Stokes Bay and were to walk the 3 miles to Ganley's Bay. Went to dock to see them off. They got away before 2 o'clock. Started to rain Just after they left. Showery with a real rain about 3 - 6 and a few later showers but beautiful sunset. Dorothy & Cellie Clarke playing Chess. I wrote to Mother,

Mrs. Ryan, Mrs. Hooper, Miss Small, Aunt Maggie and Miss Ward. Windy at night.

Saturday Aug. 20th.

Went for a Swim all by my lonesome. Had the Whole lake to Myself. Wrote to Mr. Caldwell. Clare and I walked up to the P.O. to post the letters and also went up later for the Mail. Went in for a swim in the afternoon with the crowd. Nell, Alice, Grace & Dorothy played Bridge in the evening. Nell left, I took her place, then Cellie Clarke took my place. I made a checker board for Doug. & played a couple of games of checkers with him.

Sunday Aug. 21st.

Beautiful day. Washed my hair, dried it on Nell's balcony. All went in for a Swim. Went to church with Clare, Nell, Doug. & Dorothy. Mr. Marshall of Milton preached & Gladys Chambers (Mrs Married) Sang a solo. Cool in the evening. Clare, Nell, Doug, Frances, Isabel, Isabel Kastner & I sat in the kitchen by the fire. Dorothy Sailing & Canoeing with Ollie Clarke.
