January 1st 1909
Jan 1st I hitched up went over called on Tom Berry went on to John Berrys he signed $125 order had dinner then went on to Seelys Bay Will Berry signed order came back to Benny Slys Mrs Geo Berry said for one to finish up the $2500 order she picked on a couple of weeks ago got home about eight got a letter from Will Sliter to go ahead with Earl job went to show 15 cts
2nd I came down to Nat Moors then to lansdown had dinner at Geo went out to Lenord Franklins he is to let me know about a job in a month they choose on two designs no 7465 & no 7678 in Balmoral Ked & is to be the $120 or $140 size came back to John Wm Mitchells he ordered $215 job got a letter from Mrs Evan Steacy with a money order for $14d 0 cts got home about twelve was a nice day
3rd Went to church in morn was a nice day but thawed a lot 10 cts for collection
4th Got a cheque from L B Bateman & W H Gallagher for $100 pay in full for J J Browns mon worked around house in fornoon breaking up kindling work & cleaning out the eve troughs got Baremans & Gallangers & Mrs Steacys cheques chashed they cost 30cts to get them put $100 in bank Jas Donovan was elected mayor L S Napp Knapp approved him 25cts for {illegible} to lynhurst was a nice day but thawed some have left tonight $278
5th I stayed around house alday got out a few tracings Mary Dora & I went for drive in eve I gave Mr Linklater $700 for
Andy 10 cts for bread Mary Tye & Jacob Dillon were in for dinner tea Mary stayed alnight Billy & Almeda were down this eve it rained a lot today
6th I went down got Billy we looked over Hendersons factory it burned cold this morn Mary Tye was here untill this afternoon 5 cts for a pencil & 10 cts for a book I sent Geo a letter today $150 to Mr Jackson for discharging morgage on our house & {lot?} paid it off today $577 50cts to Fred Garrett by a cheque on Toronto Bank
7th I sent up to see Fred Henderson was there untill eleven came up to Eddy Scotts shop after paid Archie {McG?} what I owed him $6 00 paid my {P O Son?} & July 1st 1909. 75 cts sent got a RO order from G T Warren for $6 88 cts in full of account got a cheque from Geo for $325.00 Fred & I closed the deal today the lumber upstairs inclosed in deal I have Margie Willson 50cts on milk Mary went to Doctor this eve got may card fixed 75 cts Billy & Almeda were down this eve was a cold day
8th I went up to office got a cheque from Abe Gallagher for $12.50 cts came out to Andys for dinner on to Jas Moultem got his not for {illegible} months at 6% for $15.00 on to Robert Godkins Mrs Godkin gave me the job of lettering John Earls mon at 15 cts a letter am to do it next summer on to Delta then to Lynhurst got John Gibsons not for $14.00 for 6 months at 3% he is to send me the other $10 00 inside of two weeks had tea at Hotell 50 cts came on to Walace Simes he is to let
had tea then to JIm Freemans stayed alnight cold day
14th Went out past Portland called on Mrs T Rape & At Geo Ellotts had dinner sold a $7500 Job called on John Polk then came on to Jas Moultens I gave Mrs Ellott 50 cts for my dinner it snowed a little to day have left to night $1.45 cts had tea & stayed overnight at Jas Moultens
15th I went to Delta got shaved 10 cts spent 20 cts 6 cts for dinner called on the two Mr Russells came back to Archie Mustards & up to Abe Delongs seen Lue Mustard then to Will McGuires on to Andys 10 cts to Burt Somervill for a pan of oats had tea at Andys he gave me 25 cts to pay on his teachers paper I gave him my note for $70000 he gave me a cheque for the same we started for Jims called on Aunt Ann got to Jims after nine was a cold day
16th I came in home this morn Andy came up to Geo Brackens with me I got in before ten gave Mr Jackson the $70000 cheque & one for $40000 to give Fred Henderson on property have left to night 40 cts was a cold day
17th I stayed around house alday went to church in eve 10 cts coll it snowed last night & a little this morn was cold day
18th Have left this Morn 30 cts I wrote to Mary & to Geo sent Mary one of Doras Photos went for drive in afternoon got 4 bags of shavens 5cts to a young lad for helping me was a cold day
19th I paid Bennett for three Books of Gold leaf $135 cts gave Mr Fred Henderson a cheque for $450 & another for $700
pay in full for property & got the Key to night he told me I could go ahead & start anty time he moved all out to day I moved a stone & some pipes up to day paid my Lodge dues COF for Jan 1909 was $1.10 the top of Kenny & Cockrin Block was distroyed by fire this morn was a cold day
20th Have this morn $780 I went up to factory started to clean it out Mr McDonald the Captain of Army was down & told me how he wanted the place fixed floor & cealing painted wants ceiling white & walls a flesh color platform across one end about 1 ft hight & to projectout 4 1/2 ft eith the exception of 6 ft in the center it is to project out rent to start at $900 a month on Feb the 6th if I can have it completed by that time & am to get $1300 a month when I get the upstairs done I am to try & have it ready by March 1st I am to put water upstairs he is to furnish his own lights I got my horse shod to day went to Missionary meating was a nice day
21st Billy Denny started to work this morn in factory I paid Seal Bros for setting shoes 60 cts $1.25 ct to Mr Kealow for a cord of wood I seen Dr Preston about a mounment this fornoon Mr & Mrs J Kirkland were here for dinner Chas Rogers agreed to clean up factory & do all cleaning of walls & floor & whitening of cealing for $3500 I wrote to Ben to night 25 cts to Willie Willson for a box was a nice day but rained to night
22nd Billy worked to day 5 cts for nails I came down to Geo this fornoon called on Wellington Landon on my way down
he agreed to come & see me about mon had dinner at Geo went out to HO Websters sold a $4000 Job on to Mr Mosleys then down by Jas Gevens & out through springfield & Escott called about a Job on Mr Mosley he agreed to give me a chance on out to Wm Moultens stayed alnight was a warm day with quite a lot of rain
23rd I came home got factory ins for three years for $1000 it cost $150 cts not paid & a carpenters risk for 1 month $100 I helped Billy this afternoon it rained nearly all day I have left tonight $860 cts went to star show it froze a little to night
24th It misted rain some to day & froze some I went to church in eve 10 cts collection
25th Have his morn $550 cts Billy Denny started to work about eight oclock I drawed $20 out of Bank gave Chas Rogers $10 on his Job he started this morn called on Tom Cornett John McMarchy Joe Cambell helped Billy in facotry to day ordered some stuff from Mitchell & Willson for factory Billy & Almeda were down this eve I gave Dick Bolton $1.80 cts to pay my dues in IOOF up to April 1st 1909 Robbie Kelly drove my horse awhile to day
26th I wrote Mary sent here a 50 cts money order cost 2 cts this was for a Missionary quilt & a treat for the boys I helped Billy to get his two Shirts $150 wrote to Geo to night went to hockey match 15 cts spent 10 cts for nails 30 cts for hair cut & shave was a cold windy day
27th Gave 2 cts for a stamp 95 cts for glas & putty Billy worked untill noon Albert Bishop came over plastered {illegible} in wall $106 cts spent 10 cts it snowed some to day.
28th Have this morn $8.90 cts paid Bennett for fixing pipes in closet & thawing out rail pipe last week $145 cts got my harness repaired 20 cts sent my heavy harness out to Andy all but collar & harness & 1 full strap sent them out by David Gamble Billy helped me this eve for about 2 1/2 hours We Keating was with us 5 cts for a loaf of bread Mary Dora & I went for a drive in after noon was a nice day
29th I ordered 2 Jobs from Jas Hutcheon & got out a station & sent it to hime & called at Dolphis Whites to see a Miss Dono{illegible} about a mon wrote to SB Norton sent him $3.50 Money order cost 3 cts for stamps was a cold day I drew $1500 out of Bank got a $1000 money order pay in full sent it to him it cost 6 cts gave Chas Rogers $500 on painting 13 cts for nuts got my abstract for factory from Mr Jackson owe for it & deed $300 was a cold stormy day have left tonight $3.38
30th I went to church in morn $200 & eve 10 cts was a big fire last night corner drug store & Rogers Opia
Feb 1st 1909 Geo sent me a cheque for $300 I sent him a note for same a few days ago dated Feb 1st to draw for 6 months I drawed $2000 out of Merchants Bank paid $350 to Mr Jackson in full I drove down to see Fred Richenson seen RJ Willson & Albert Bishop about plastering A Bishop agreed to furnish
lath & plaster & put it on for 31 cts a yard I also seen Bill Hill & ordered some paper to use back of plaster he agreed to furnish me enough for $750 cts
2nd Mrs J Leadbeater was at shop about mon Ross was with her I told Mrs Bishop to Albert to be ready to start Job on monday have left at noon $1800 cts Jim & Eddy Kenny were here for dinner I came out to Geo McCormicks out near sand hill & around by Washburn D Brewers Mills called at Mr Roch he agreed to see me about a Job before buying one on out to Berrygon they had ordered one on to Seeleys Bay fed horse at Medcalf 35 cts then went to Davie Pattersons sold a $1200 Job on to Ross Gambles got there near eleven the bear could see his shadow was a cold day
3rd Ross & Rob went to town to day had dinner at our place they had lumber I went down called on Joe Moorhead I am to call on him again friday on to Wallace Simes he & his father & I drove up to St Johns they choose a $7500 Job came back there & stayed to dinner came on to Lynhurst seen Geo Roddick he agreed to give me a chance Jim was there I came on to Delta called on Mr Halliday he is to come & see me about trading a bote boat for a mon spent 10 cts stayed alnight was a cold day
4th I got a shave paid my Hotell bille 1.25 on to Arthur Irwins came out through Portland to Jas Baker
he agreed to give me a chance on his Job called on Mrs Jillies had dinner there came on to Elgin called on Mrs Kirst then to WH Slys then to Will Jacobs May paid me in full $1200 then to Joe Moreheads he agreed to give me another chance came on to Uncle Johns stayed alnight Jacob paid me in full $1500 & 25 cts intrest
5th I came down to Jas Townsends then to Mrs John Leadbeaters she agreed to give me another chance on to Jims had dinner came on to R Moultens called a few minutes then in home got home about four the sleighing went to day
6th I paid Mr Pelow for a 1/2 cord of wood that Chas Rogers got for me $1.25 cts & paid Chas $1600 & $200 to E Scott for him this pays him in full to date I sold some brass to a Jew 60 cts I owe him 15 cts change 3 cts for {illegible}ery I worked at Barracks alday 5 cts for carbolic oil I took some lumber over to Jas Beatty to get Ripped into strapping back from Beatty I paid him in full for carting 50 cts I paid to Jew the 15 cts I owed him got 4 lbs of nails 13 cts Mr Kenny helped me 2 1/2 hours strapping the Barracks Mrs Johnson paid me the $2 1/2 that she agreed to over the misunderstanding of the $500 on rent it was soft in
