December 1888

1 Saturday. Fine warm day. Went to see Auntie.
2 Very fine day. The Congregation were thunderstruck by the announcement of the funeral of Margaret Campbell who died at 11. A.M. this morning after 10 hour illness.
3 John McCrimman of {Briganhowen?} brought the furnace to the manse today.
4 Pa was taken ill last night, had to send for the Dr. about 4 A.M. he ordered him to be well physiced he is better 7. P.M. To 1 bottle castor oil 15 cts Wrote to Far, and papers 5 cts Had a letter from Murdy Oliver Collet paid $.2.75 for rent The widow of Captain W. Urquhart was buried today. she was pretty old 15
5 Snow this morning, but it began to thaw. and now 9 P.M. it is all off
6 Women Meeting at D.D. McLennans, 16 members present. my offering 25. coal oil 1/2 gall

There was a report through the village that Buck eye McRae Killed a man named Robertson last night at some Kind of a gathering.

Had a letter from Far today. he will be home on Saturday

8 Far came by the noon mail Pa sold a marriage license to a Frenchman to marry a daughter of St John's
9 Sunday. Rev. Given gave a very good sermon from Daniel 2nd chap . It bore chiefly on Temperance. Rev Smith of Queens preached in a very good sermon from Joshua 7 chapt. "Achan's sin." Mr Smith is collecting for Queens
10 Got Sable & Jetty shod. Jimie drew a load of coal from Lancaster for Church Two new members instated in our Lodge. John Smith John Burgess
