1 Thursday. Womens F.M.L. {Womens Foreign Mission L.=League or S.= Society} at Dan McDonell's It was a good meeting. This has been a very fine day. I am afraid March will go out as a lion, for it came in like a lamb. Mt offering today was 25 cts and 13. for for material for an apron for clothes pins. And 25. to the widows fund. Calico and braid 16. There was a singing class, tonight. Handy is teacher 38 25 16
3 A fine day Pa put in all the stove wood. Birdie and I were at Aunties, last evening. I got at Willie's 2 lb raisin 1 box. matches 10. 1 pair rubbers 45. 1/2 lb coffee 20, got 1/4 lb cream tartar 13. The choir for church practise met here tonight. 20 75 13
4 Cold day, M. McKenzie, Student of MaGill preached today at A.M. & P.M.
5 Cold day, wind West. Singing class good. Far went off tonight for Washington on an excursion Willie McPherson went too.
6 Another cold day. I was out at Aunties, And at Willies and got 11 1/2 yds cotton 1.15. 2 bunches braid 2 doz but{tons} Had temperance Meeting tonight It was pretty good. Pa has a sore toe, had the Doctor he sent some medicated cottom to dress it with Had a letter from Murdy. The repeal pf the Scot Act was tried in Halton on Thursday 1st of March, And the {rumnesis?} won, by about 200) majority. 1.35
8 Kind of a mild day. Yesterday Ran and I went to Lancaster and took two cow hides to the tanner. I bot at McCrimmons & Co. 2 1/2 yds cloth for Murdy pants bot at another McCrimmons 1 1/4 yds cloth for a jacket for Bird

The Dr. was in today to see Pa's toe, it is a good deal better I sent a letter to Murdy last night with $.1000

Robert McKillop's eldest son by the 2d wife was buried yesterday

Birdie is not in school today she has a bad cold.

9 There was no singing class last night. Handy was sick. This has been a very fine day.
10 Another fine day. had a letter from Far written on his arrival in Washington. Got 1 lb dates 10 10
11 Sabbath. Cousin Mary was over, We had a Mr __ Student of MCgill Read Ezekial 37. Vision of dry bones
12 Stormy. began to snow. 6.30. Had a letter from Murdy his session will not be through until the last of April
13 very stormy. The worse storm of the winter, not a person on the road until evening. Mrs Snider a daughter.
14 Prayer Meeting Sandy O. leader. Mrs Lauder the daughter
15 W.C.F. M. (Womens Committee Foreign Mission} met in our house today. Mrs. D.D. Mrs A.C. Mrs Monroe & Miss McGruer. not much said but thought the women should go from house to house, to find the opinion of the people about the S.A. {Scot Act} {Dr?} called to see. A very goodly number out to Singing.
16 Had a letter from Jimie. No word from Far this week. A concert at the Gore School tonight - a load went from the village. I bot. a ticket: but did not go 25
17. St Patrick's day. cold wind from West. The singing class for Sabbath met here tonight, and have only left. 10.30 Sold 1 doz eggs, got 2 lb raisins. There was a severe snow storm all over N.Y. beginning Sabbath evening railroads were blocked. Mails stopped, The storm was very severe in Connecticut. A. Pigon brought a {Pct.?} cooking stove from us today. paid $.6.00. And will pay the rest soon. $.600 more

19. Jimies birthday fine mild day. Mrs D.D., Miss McGruer & Myself went out and called on the merchants and two of the mechanics of the village to find out if they thought the Scot Act was

20 Began to rain today. about noon. Not many at the Temperance Meeting 4 of us. 40 cts. The {progration?} Got Murdy's pants from Major, Cost 100. F went to Lancaster with them and sent to Montreal, by Exp. .- 25
21. Raining today also. Boys took home from Pelow's 1 load of straw. I bought from Etta Elder needles. Prayer Meeting tonight, not many present. A.C. conducted it. 25
22. Thursday. Hannah. came about 4. P.M. I have had enough of her. Cold W. wind. Ran got boots repair 50
23. Cold again. had a good singing class. last night
24 Very cold W. wind. H. is a fixture. Lassy had a calf. 9.P.M.
25 Fine day. Peony. had a calf some time in the night Mr McKey. preached. read Isaiah 53. John 1st chap. 29 evening meeting was at Helphabah {Hephzibah}. McKay. read Isaiah 61. chapt text Luke, 13. 3 verse a very nice meeting. Mr Matheson had Sacriment today.
26 Very stormy. today sent a letter to Murdy with $10.00 10
27 Fine bright day. we got rid of Hannah, today. sent Ran with her to D.A.R. pants. Paul Cameron's M.D. body was buried at Martinto.
28 Raining all day. Kind of mist, not many in prayer meeting. A son of Duncan Grant's, Carsevonie, died suddenly this evening.
29 A fine day, I washed paid 50 cts to Leitch at Singing class. the Dr.. called at 9.30. P.M. to see Pa's foot. he gave a wash to be used instead of the powder
30 Got butter from Auntie 3 1/4 lbs. I made wine black dye. Lander is going to make sugar on our 30 acres. he took the dish this evening. began to snow 9. P.M.
31 snowed all day. had a letter from Murdy. he will not be home until May. sold 2 doz eggs. 17 cts got 3 lb rice. = 2 lbs raisins 12.50 + 17.85 + 35 = 29.90

1. Sunday. There was a young Student of M Gill preached today. A M. read 11 Deut. Text Gala 6. 7 verse P.m. read John 3 chapt Dr in tonight
2 Washed two shaw ticks. Got 1 gall maple syrup from uncle Don Far went to the Gore. Pa sold marriage license to G.W. Fergusson {Sneak?} to marry Mary McIntyre, R.R, There was not many at Singing class
3. Fine day, looks like good sugar weather. got a bottle of {vrisk?} from the Dr
4 Beautiful sugar weather A.M. P.M. turned cloudy.
5 11.57 P.M. has been raining all day, and is still raining Women's Meeting at G. Elders. 14 members present my offering was 25 cts. S. Foultin & Lilly B. are each collecting money for Point Trumble school, to help build a wing for the girls. I gave both L & S 10 cts each. Was at singing school gave Leitch 60 cts. Lander has not been to see us since he took the dishes away. Mrs D.D. gave me the 25 cts that I gave for Kenedys boy 25 20 90
6 It has been a fine day. Mrs Lander brought about 21 gall of syrup Far is yet in Gore. I did but very little this week my feet and legs are sore Mrs Alick Grant, Sank, died last night. Dr was in today gave a little iodine for the foot.
7 Boiled Lander's syrup and it did not amount to 2 gall. Had a letter from Jimie and a post office order for $.20.00
8 Had no sermon today. Sandy Ossin, read, And some others prayed Far came from the Gore and had 1 gall of syrup Handy cannot come to finish the singing. he has been ordered to Wales.
9 Very fine day. McCormick took charge of the singing Sent a letter to Jimie. Uncle Donald had a letter from Scotland from his cousin Murdock Got 4 lbs butter from Auntie.
10 The anniversity of our marriage. Very fine morning, about noon began to cloud and at 2.30 began to rain
11 Rained all day. sent a letter to Murdy 10 dollars 10.95

12 Cold E. wind all day We got word of the death of Rory Niel McLennan, he will be buried tomporrow
13 Fine day sugar weather
14 Sold 3 doz. eggs. 14 cts pr doz. got 4 lb raisins, 1 chinese lantern got a Telegram to meet uncle Sandy this evening. 51
15 Uncle Sandy came last night and with him Annie McDonell. This is a lovely day. No Minister
16. Annie McD. went off to get the 5.30 P.M. train Sandy went later to get the 10.30. P.M. Far had a letter Telegram from Jimie. he left Port Hawkesberry for Montreal. there was a Mrs McDonald buried today in St Mary's who died suddenly at her daughters (Mrs Corbelle). Sandy was to see Peggy
17 Another fine day. frost enough to make this a good sugar day. PM 11. We had a good temperance meeting Mses Calder McGillivray & Hewett spoke, there was not many of the voters, principally weman & boys
18 Rain today. showery. Was at Prayer Meeting. McGillivray was there, butchered Peonys calf sold 2 yrs 1.50 cts
19. Jimie came home this morning, came to the Gore last night. Far was to Cornwall last night to hear Mrs Scots Sidden. The vote to repeal the Scots Act took place today. And at 8.30. P.M. the repeal had 1500 majority.
20 Over 2.000 voted for repeal. And of the 8 Counties not one sustained the Act. I was to see Auntie this evening. And I bought at Dan's on account of oats sold in March 1 bottle of Electric oil 5 yds Cotton 9 -45. 2 towels 17 - 34. Got from Annie 2 1/4 butter, Got 3 succers. the first of the Season
21 Marion sold 2 doz eggs, at J.A.'s got 2 yds blue ribbon and 1. pint glass dish for Auntie.
22 Fine day. Mr Hewett Methodist of Lancaster preached. read 110. Psalm. & Hebrews 1 chapt. Text 6th verse of 2d chapt. Phillipeans. He and Nicholson 1.50

23 Cold day. Snowed a little Cousins Donald & Mary were here today. I washed Jimies underwere sent Murdy $.800 The Dr. Called. We heard that the Hon. Thomas White died last night at Ottawa aged 58 years. or Saturday night.
24 Cold West wind. Got hme one load of straw, not many fish in the rappids .
25 Heard this morning that John McGillis. Eq. of Montreal died last night, will be buried here on Friday Lander brought me _ sugar and syrup Far & Jimie were fishing for perch And caught 1/2 doz. 10. P.M. Elder conducted the prayer Meeting.
26. Got a letter from Murdy. Butchered a calf. sold 1/4 to Mrs Williamson, 90 cts. Sold another hind to Jack Sullivan 16 lbs Sold 7 1/2 lbs to Nick Collet -35. And 7 1/2 to Mrs Grant (high Steps) Sent a letter to Murdy and $.600 6
27 Mr McGillis was buried today. body came to Landcaster last night. And left there 8 A.M. today The boys caught mecers last night.
28 Very hot today. Mercury 86, in the shade. At noon A. C. McDonell called to see if we would take a minister Mr Nelson who is to preach tomorrow
29 Hattie came last evening. And remained over night. Mr Nelson preached A.M. read Psalm 103. text Mark 16. 3. Evening service read Zechriah 13. chat 6 verse
30 Cold, rained a little in the morning, but not enough to spoil the roads which are very good. I made fire in the sitting room tonight. A Temperance meeting was announced for tonight. I went, there was so few present, that they gave up the notion and went home Far went for Murdy, to Lancaster but he did not come up tonight. 14.00 + 1.50 + 10.15 = 25.65

1 There was a pretty good meeting in the Hall today, and all present signed for to give a call to Mr Given, but Mrs McLaurin & {Vicoy?} Mr Nelson saw Mr Burnett, and told him to stay here until Saturday when he will go to Maxville. Murdy came to Lancaster last night. Your text here...
2 Mr Nelson went to tea at A.C. McDonells and came back in time to take charge of the prayer meeting
3 I have been very busy today Nelson went to visit Mrs McLaurin
4 Jimie went to plough on the village farm. Nelson took tea at J. Dingwall's R.R.
5 Nelson went off about 9. A.M. with D.D. McLennan to drive to Maxville It rained heavily last night and it only cleared up at About 8 A.M.
6. D. Ross, Hector's son preached today, read Hebrews 3 chapt 6 part of the 4th, text, Exodus 33 . 14. "My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest" No prayer meeting
7. Joe Defoe, rented the lower flat of Kintail house 3.50 pr Mon. I gave a gypsey woman on Saturday. 50 00 for six yds of lace I made a big washing Nelson returned from Maxville and Far went with him to Lancaster. Ran pruned three apple trees. Murdy dig one square in garden. Jimie ploughing Auntie sent me a Mulberry tree on Saturday and I planted it among the black currant bushes. Sold. 1 bush potatoes to D. Fergusson 50 50
8 Fine day. We planted a few potatoes. 2 rows. 1/4 of seedlings by the road, then a mixture of 3 rows. sold 10 bush of provender to Bentley. 1/2 bush potatoes W Laroque 15. Got Bird a pair of Kid boots at Willie's 3.25 Murdy had a letter from Annie McDonell. Far & Bird went to the Gore. this evening. 43. 3-25
9 Prayer Meeting. Rev. Leitch of Valleyfield preached.
10. Womens Meeting at J.A.'s. 9 member present 11. with Mrs McDonell's Lilly. Rev. Matheson brought A minister to our home, who is going to preach here Sundy. Pa sent him off. I gave 25 cts to the fund. today, had a post card from Far who went for Quebec 25 4.45

May 1888

11 Jimie sowed 15 bush of oats, we sowed carrots & some mangols. Murdy and I were at the funeral of Mrs McCulloch, Alick Campbell's daughter, she was buried in the village burying ground.
12 Began to rain this morning before day, and was showery all day. Sold 1/2 bush potatoes to Defoe 25
13 A Mr Oglive preached today Jimie & Ran got boots made by Pigon our leather cost 2.50 2.50
14 Made a large washing. began to rain Far came 15 home Jimie went to Lancaster and took 2 calf skins
15 Still showery put the colts to {Carrwerny?} farm
16 Looked like being dry. I went to Murchisons and got 45 strawberry plants and planted them and while I was on the road, the rain poured down. Tom Collet put 1 cow in pasture
17. Sowed carrots, beets mangols, turnips
18 dry today cold wind, Jimie ploughed the lot at the barn, we will plant it tomorrow. Colett took cow out
19 Began to rain about 9.30. last night and it has been showery & drizzley since 11 P M. Marion sold 2 doz eggs at W. got a pair of hose 11 and a yd of pink ribbon 7 for herself. she got a pair of boots 1.20 I was working at an old dress of Marion's. Pa put up a fence for Collet today. paid W. Gordon 75 cts for nailing the boards, paid Collet 50 cts for digging 10 post holes. we did not plant potatoes today 22 1.27
20. Nice day. cool. Mr Oglive preached read Exodus 13 ch. P.M. read Rev. 14 & part of 15.
21 Saw mosquitoes today for the first 14 part of 15 this year
22 Jimie is ploughing. the boy fixed the fence.
23. planted the lot by the barn corn & potatoes & pumpkins Were raising the cook house Mosquitoes Awful.
24 Fine day Jimie sowed 10 bush provender. I planted beans W Melans M. melins cucumber & B seed onions & Sweet corn The boys but Randolph went to Lancaster to see 3.99

25 Jimie ploughing. Far put a platform at the cook house door Dan Fergusson, sneak, put his cow into our Garden {Jo?} did Partridge.
26 Mosquitoes in myriads, the house is full of them, Sold 2 dox eggs 28 cts.. got sulpher 5 cts.. Cleaned up the door yard Ran is fishing and selling mecers, letter from Sandy 5
27 Rained a little this morning, enough to settle the dust Rev. Mr Paterson of Montreal who is at J.A's, preached read Isiah 60. & 5 of Matth. text from the 3 to the 17 verse of the 5 chap of Matth. that was Morning evening read Proverbs 8 chpt. 2d Corinth 4 chapt text 14 verse of 5 chapt 20 Cor. I liked his reading of this voice were good. He is a tall and has a bauld head looks like Principal Grant.
28 Dull day with frequent showers. Jimie sowed provender. Bird has tooth ache. There was an explosion in Gass works in Montreal on Saturday. 4 men Killed & 5 seriously injured. Two one {Gouhles?} married in St. Mary's today Alick Sanderson's daughter and a painter of Barrets. And Saturay Sable had a mare colt about 10. P.M. it was black as jet.
29. We were cutting potatoes for planting. Jimie went this afternoon to plough at the 30. acres We sent 4 bush of oats to Monkhouse who is going to plant them on shears for Sullivan put cow in pasture so did Tom Collett
30 I was busy all day and did not go to Prayer Meeting. was cutting potatoes. They planted about 10 bush on Village farm.
31 Far went this morning to Montreal to hear Gillmore's band of instrumental music. Pa Murdy & Ran finished planting potatoes, we have in all over 30 bush potaotes planted. 5 + 4.43 + 3.99 = 8.47

June 1888

1 Friday. Jimie sowed bush provender and 1/2 bush hayseed on the back of the 30 acres. Hatty came this evening.
2. Was showery today. Pa got himself a hat at Dan's $.200 I got at 3 lemons 5 ct cream tartar 10 2 -- .15
3 A Mr Robertson, student preached. Morning read John 21 chapt. 22d verse of same chapt. What is that to thee Follow those men. Evening read Matth. 25 chapr. text. 3 & 4 some of the same chapt. He gave general satisfaction something different from what we were in the habit of hearing.
4 Fine cool day, threatening rain. I washed. had a {tiffet? tippet?} with Pa about the front porch. Returned the $4.00 to Hunts 4 that Bird got to pay for the examination {Santimy's?} daughter was married today and not last week as I wrote.
6 4 P.M. Jimie began to put out the manure yesterday. drew 14 loads. drew 7 this forenoon, then at noon it began to cloude up for a storm. And it came at 1/2 one. very high wind blew down two trees in our grave yard, the old pine that had stood between Gadbois & Langivall. fell, two limbs were blown off one of our maples, And Tom Hunan's old barn got quite a shafting fences were thrown down. I did not hear of any destruction as yet but if the storm was as bad in other places as it has been hear, there will be a good deal of damage done. Russel paid Pa $.4000 for rent yesterday
7 The womans meeting was at A.P. McDonell's today. I was not there. There was a large destructive fire in Hull yesterday. 1500 people homeless. Jimie putting up fences today
9. Far Jimie & Murdy went to Cornwall. Far & Jimie took 30 bush potatoes. sold then for $.14. 6.15

9. Ran went to Lancaster to see the people working in the double track. The work was begun Monday.
10. Murdy got home 10.30. The other boys did not get home until 1.30. this morning Rev Mr White Robertson preached today, A.M. read. 1st Kings 18 ch.. text 21st verse P.M. read
11. There was a very heavy storm last night began about 10. and continued until midnight It is fine and cool today. The boys are not working. I made a washing. Jimie got 100 Murdy 50 to go to Cornwall. 1.50
12. Jimie made Auntie's road work. got 2.25. Pat Far Murdy Ran are weeding the potatoes at the home, Charley Pareshaw, paid Pa $.10.00 for value received. And got 4 bush of provender charged
13. C. Parashaw got 31. bush of provender charged
14 Sold our biggest pig to Carr. Lancaster for $800 pr cwt. to be delivered in Lancaster tomorrow. dead weigh Got 1. luby 50 cts Rained last night, this is a fine growing day I sent a letter to Annie McDonell Got 1 corn broom at Dan's 50 22
15 Had a letter from Annie McDonell. And sent her one and $.13.00 12 to buy things for me and 1 for herself Got 4 1/2 gall coal oil at Willie's 1--
16 I went to a social at J. Andrew Camerston-Summerstown. Mrs Hunt went with me. Far Jimie Murdy Lilly B. John. J.A. Susy Agness & Walker of Barbadoes All went on a waggon we spent a very pleasant evening. got home about 12 P.M. Emperor Fredrick of Germany died yesterday morning. 25 25
17. A Mr. McLean, preached Morning & evening. I was not there.
18 Boys all but Far working on the roads. Far went to Cornwall. And got me $.40.00 from L & P. I paid Willie's my account of $.9.95 13 - 67

All badly bruised Mary's lower lip was cut through and the Dr put four stitches in it Dan's wife had her forehead cut and had nine stitches put in Wesley was the Dr. who attended them.
