Friday Aug. 27th.

Very hot day. Had Morning swim. Wrote to Dorothy & copied love letter. Wrote out couple of cake recipes. Cleaned up Dorothy's room and spare room ready for closing up. Charles and I rowed Clare over to explore new gut we went up yesterday. Both rowed both ways, about 4 miles. Charlie got telegram that Grace Steven had very serious operation & doubtful if she will get better. Wire 2 days old. He, Jack & Duncan went into Wiarton to telephone as phone from Oliphany to Wiarton was out of commission. Went over to Charlie's and had a piece of Chocolate cake Isabel made & went to bed early.

Saturday Aug. 28th.

Had my Morning swim. Raining to-day. Took up rug in my room and did some packing. Alice scalded her hand this Morning. Men, Nell, Doug, Ducan, Kirk & Donald Dowkes went fishing. Worked at my centrepiece. Called on
