March 1909
Mon 1. Sunshine part of the day. Will got on his stack. Paul in the afternoon wandering around with his gun, we had the rabbit for dinner that he caught in the trap Marjorie took Riexingers flour home. Paul shot their cat The girls went to George Heximer in the afternoon Tom McCredie & Don & Tom to Wills in the evening.
Teu 2 nice sunshine most of the day. thawing & muddy chilly. Paul cut a lot of wood & made a gate for the barn yard the youngsters swept the school house. The girls went to see Mrs Dell, Marjorie baked bread & made a tapioca pudding for supper, & a doe cake enough for two or three meals.
Wed 3. Terrible blustery & hailing at times from the east then in the fornoon the snow came in great flakes the air was just thick with it. Mrs McCredie to the other house the girls took her home. Arthur came home from McCredies at noon. Paul went to Riexingers after a peck of beans paid 50 cts. stayed & got his dinner. I fed the cattle at night Riexinger cattle got in the creek & lost 3 head broke through the ice Will, Arthur & Paul went down. Fannie & Ollie over in the evening a rough night the wind turned in to the west
Thur 2. One year ago today Hattie went to Speddings another changeable day sunshine, wind west & drifting at times. Arthur & Paul went to help Riexinger skin the cattle they brought us two quarters & Wills two. such nice meat its a great loss to them. I churned & worked the butter about 2 1/4 for ourselves Marjorie sewing on her night dress.
Friday 5 Will & Fred went to Welland after shingles for the church shed. Arthur took Ollie home Fannie went with her. very cold day went in a {page cut off} - very good sunshiny day in spots. I churned for ourselves. The children swept the schoolhouse.
Sat. 6. Marjorie went to Chippewa. 4 doz eggs @ 25 - 1.00. butter 3 3/4 @ 25. tea 30. biscuits 10. soda 5 sugar 24 molasses 12. cocoa 12. bromogumme plates 40 cts. coal oil 18 lb peal 5 raisins 10 I swept & cleaned the floor, washed my waist; drawers, & stockings & a shirt for Paul. & my great skirt; made grape tarts & a pie, cleaned the back kitchen, washed both tables, & put paper in the three cornered cupboard, & washed; the worst of the dishes & wiped the others. Marguerite went with her. Riexingers got our midling at Welland, a beautiful day. Arthur helping Tom McCredie
Sun 7. Mrs Riexinger for tea Kate brought her, quite icy I read of alot of Bishop Richardsons book.
Mom 8 beautiful day. Manuel Dells social Paul went Arthur went to help Tom McCredie to finish getting out ice but it thawed too much. Will went over to Mrs Dells with her corn. he measured out our oats & Paul spilled a lot at the gate.
Teu. 9. dreadful icy raining in the fornoon & freezing turned warmer towards night, & not so icy Kate, Marg & Jen Dell to tea Marjprie baking bread I made a ginger cake & Marjorie made an apple sauce cake yesterday a meeting at night about the church shed
Wed 10. Paul washed his shirts: quite cold northwest wind very high snowing quite a lot but not enough for sleighing
Thur 11. beautiful sunshine all day but quite raw Mrs Riexinger brought our mail & the seeds from Eatons. Will gone to see Pet.
Friday 12. beautiful day. Mrs. Zimerman & Hattie came I churned & worked the butter. Marjorie sent with Maggie for her skirt but she did not get it
Sat 12. Arthur went to Chippewa with that man & his potatoes
