fun 4 . Marjorie & the children went to church. Hattie came over to see us on her way. In church a new minister preached he & Mr. Ruse went to Mrs Riexinger's for dinner. Archie & Tom McCredie gone to Millers. Such a grand day 7 weeks ago today was Pauls last Sunday.
Mon 5. Harrie over all day had such a nice visit. she was making her light-braid. Marjorie mixed the bread befor she went with the cows & I put it in the tins & baked it & churned after dinner. Arthur working for George Heximer working at the cellar. Marguerite started her school. quite hot in the kitched had the dining room open. Len & Henry threshing in the fornoon Archie & Will both helping. After dinner Marjorie went to Chippewa took a bag of wheat to get choped for the pigs took a roll of butter 4 lbs 14 oz. got a bag wheating & a little embroidery & a spool of thread & the rest put on the book. Arthur & I cleaned up the wheat at least he did the turning of the mill he did the most of it & still I was bushed. I got on 1/4 past 5 & & Marjorie just got home as I made the fire dreadful hot day (& I went & finished the wheat)
Wed 7. Fannie & her father & Arthur went to the County Fair. Hattie came home from Mes. Dells. beautiful day Marjorie & I drawed up nearly two barrels of water then she took up her plants & I churned. no school Mr. McDonald came & stayed all night.
Thur 8. rained some in the night & drizzled most of the day caught a lot of water I boiled feed yesterday & today. could not do any thing with the cows in the morning we put them in the field & sent Gordon to school. she swept the school house when she was {right margin 2 words?}
Friday 9 nice after the rain Tom McKeowan threshing Arthur helping I churned & worked the butter canned up the last of the grapes pealed a big kettle of pears & pealed the pumkin & put it through the colander. Marjorie & Gordon guarded the cows. Marjorie washed a quite a lot, for herself & the children. I did not want her to wash any for me for I am going to wash next week. I swept the school house. The children {in right margin} guarded the cows.
Sat 10. Marguerite went up to Heximers Marjorie guarded the cows untill she came back. I killed two roosters & dressed them for Kesters they weighed 6 lb they made them less. Took 8. 1/4 of butter they made it 2 oz short. Ferkin 15 lard 16 gal oil 18 Towelling 30 sugar 25 fly paper 5 soda 5 Ginger 10 soap 6 yeast & Balance 12. put 243 on the book. Marguerite got the horse up & I fed her & we got the wagon out, I swept both rooms cleaned the kitchen, washed the windows made 4 pumkin pies & one grape. cleaned the stoops. boiled pig feed, Marjorie swept the front room. Arthur finished threshing then went to George & Heximers for the rest of the day. Maggie went to town took 1 doz & 3 eggs @ got a lb tea & 2 cts. Will came home from Bertie he took Hattie up yesterday. I got a lot of wood up from the flat. Margorie got a lb Bolona & 22d of meat
Sun 11. no church here. Arthur to Riexinger Mrs. R has been sick Fannie went to the brick
Mon 12 beautif day hard frost last night. I went down & dusted the school house brought up a 12 qt pail of water the children guarded the cows in the fornoon while Marjorie went after the timothy seed then she was sewing for Marguerite she has rheumatism bad. I churned after dinner worked the butter. in the morning we drawed up a barrel of water - Arthur to Georges. I went over to see Mrs. Riexinger after I had my night work done.
Teu 13. Will went to Port Robinson with a big load of choping & 6 bushels of wheat, let us have two bushels for flour, I put {4?} bushels of wheat screenings 7 wheat in two sacks & 3½ of vats & Marjorie went to Chippewa & got it choped. Took 4 lb 13 oz. butter 225 got salt 10 brown sugar 18 cheese 19, blue 5 Stove blacking 8 sodas 10 rice 10 coffee 13 tea 12, sage 5 pepermints 5. Arthur up Heximers. Fannie helping clean the church Berdie & Nettie for Wills. The Presbeterian minister called at the other house I started to wash in the fornoon bt the time the dishes & separater is washed floor swept & wood picked up to keep feed for the pigs boiled one cannot get much else done made a pudding for dinner. got the white clothes washed & put to soak
Wed 14. Marjorie & Gordon guarded the cows. Marguerite went down untill she got the bread mixed. I carried a pail from the school house for the churn. I churned & worked the butter she went up to help Mrs. McCredie after dinner. wind terrible high terrible for bakeing & hot & smokey I put the white clothes out. Arthur & his father went over to Willicks after she coll in the afternoon Arthur went to Georges. I separated the milk just got through as Will came to do it he is so good about comeing to do it about every night since Arthur has been to Georges other times too I went down & swept the schoolhouse but did not dust.
Thur 15. Will & Lilly went to Chippewa. Fannie over for awhile. I washed out my blanket that got stained by the drip on it & a lot of calicoes just about roasted gathered up a lot of wood along the flats, dusted the schoolhouse & carried two pails of water yesterday Marjorie & I drawed a barrel warm pan for night Arthur to Heximer. The heat is great & so dry wind high. Marjorie & Gordon guarded the cows mornings & Marguerite at night.
Friday 16. I churned, had a bread pudding for dinner. Marjorie kept the pigs out of the pen while I fixed it some she cleaned the only side trough
After dinner I killed two chickens the picked on & I one the took the insides out. I got Will to kill the other two & we dressed them for Mrs. Day 5 3/4. The first two Will took to Kesters on the bill no school the children guarded the cows. we drawed two barrels of water he went after coal Arthur to Heximers. at night I worked the butter, pealed a pumkin & a lot of pears & blacked the stove.
Sat 17. The children guarded the cows, night & morning. Marjorie went to Clifton, got Gordons shoes & stockings, started quite early, took 7 lbs & 44 of butter & two doz eggs @ 27 pr doz & two chicken 5 3/4. got a shak 45, sugar 25 candy 5 biscuits 10 Quincee 13 electric oil 25. Took 2 doz for Fannie. I swept & cleaned both rooms made a cake & four pumkin pies killed & dressed a black pullet for supper, scrubed all the boards swept the yard right befor carried two pails of water from the school house boiled 4 pots of mush milked the cows just as Will cam to separate Fannie gave us some peaches & green tomatoes
Sun 18 dreadful hot like a day in summer. The children went to church Marjorie could not get her shoe on for her corn. Mill Dells girl & their teacher to Wills. the preacher went to Bella Montague. 8 weeks ago was Pauls last sunday here. Arthur went to the brick church, & in the evening took Fannie & Minnie Marshall for Sawes church. Kate & Frank here in the evening.
Mon 19 looked like & did sprinkle Marjorie went up to Georges after a load of wood I went down to the school house for two pails of water. After she brought the load she went down & guarded the cows untill noon I unloaded it & put it in the barn after dinner we went up & got a load & I stayed to Maggie's untill she came back we got another load & I came back & Mrs Buyers was here when we came back. They were drawing cornstacks down in the barn. Marjorie went after another load of wood cold north east {written above east} wind.
Teu 20 Mrs. Rogers went over here for dinner. The children guarded the cows untill near eleven. Then we got an early dinner for they are going to Drummondville after her milk & a bed of onions & came back by George {Welsteads?} & got 6 bushels of apples Will & Arthur are away making cider I carried 11 pails of water from the creek & churned & guarded the cows on the yard. got a lot of the wood in the barn, done the night chores befor they came home wind east but not so cold as yesterday.
Wed 21 cold east wind we drawed two barrels of water then Marjorie went to guard the cows. I just got a pot of mush on no dishes or separater washed or sweeping done as Mrs. McCredie came for dinner, just befor she went Jane Buyers came Lilly Sebbet brouight her. Fannie away collecting. Will & Arthur over for Marl Heximers Bella came back from Reavleys.
Thur. 22 Jane went over to Wills for the day. Annie Marshall called in on her way to Wills in the evening they all came over with Jane. I churned. had 5½. took over the box for the potatoes after I fixed it & pealed the pears for preserves.
Friday 23 Marjorie guarded the cows Jane pealed the quinces before she went to Riexingers took the barrels over for the apples we took the apples over I carried over a lot of them Will loaded up two bags of wheat to take to Chippewa to get choped.
Sat 24. I canned up the pears & quinces, canned up the peaches that was left made 3 apple pies ginger cake swept both rooms & cleaned them & boiled pig feed Marjorie swept her room & front room & guarded the cows. I churned & made grape tarts.
Sun 25. Quarterly meeting at Dells. both ministers at Wills for dinner. Fannie over for awhile beautiful day voting day rained a little after church
Mon 26 I churned & worked the butter Marjorie washed Marguerite & Gordon guarded the cows. I put the bread in the tins & baked it.
Teus 27 Marjorie went after her teeth but did not catch old Cook in came back by Welsteads & got 2 bushels more of apples. I carried two pails of water from the school house & from the shack.
Wed 28. rained some in the night I wish I had got the apples in last night I churned & worked the butter I got the sink in from the woodhouse & fixed the wood up so there was more room. Will took 20 bus yesterday of wheat for us.
Thur 29 I churned a little cooler, towards night: after supper who should come in but Paul just as if he had never been away. Arthur was here & Will came over
Friday 2930 Ironed real cold this morning but Paul says its not cold. he went up & paid Tom. Mary Riexinger called with the mail at night. Arthur & Paul went to Riexingers. yesterday I took the windows out & washed them scrubed the bench & got it in I could not have done it the wind is so cold from the north I churned & worked the butter. Will buchered a pig yesterday weighed 1.51 Arthur was helping at Heximers in fornoon
Sat 31 Marjorie went after her teeth & got them Paul got the Parlor stove up. I carried water & the children each carried a pail I made 4 pumkin pies & made small cakes & they were poor swept both rooms, it got so cold Paul had to bag the potatoes for fear of frost, froze hard at night Marguerite & Gordon went down to sweep the schoolhouse & stayed from ½ pail 2 Oclock untill after 4 I had a good fire in the room when she came home. I washed the table & got it in for the flowers & cleared up the woodhouse more
Sun 1. beautiful November day but cold. terrible cold wind Arthur & Fannie went to Sharps. Paul started up to Hubbys but they just got to Georges he came back & Lue Riesenger came in & stayed for tea the last day I have to feed the pigs I think
Mon 2 beautiful day. Will, Arthur & Paul buchered our pigs Paul & Arthur drawed a barrel of water befor they started. I dressed the big topnot & made potpie after dinner & cleaned the entrals. I made a big cake at night. Paul carried in the pigs & weighed them little one weighed 1.26½ barrow 148½ & the one from Will 155½
Teu 3. Marjorie guarded the cows. Paul cut the pigs up & I held them for him never got the churning done yesterday nor today. Arthur went to Port yesterday to get some oats rolled after dinner for the horses. After dinner I salted the meat - such a nice day not cold high wind southwest The youngsters let the cows get away & we had a nice journey after them & we were so tired Marjorie baked Paul was in Chippewa & when he came back & had his supper he took the horse drove over by Sebbets breakhouse where Tom McCredie saw them. The wind changed in the night - to north west & was bitter cold.
Wed 4 wind terrible cold from the north flurries of snow regular squaw winter. I swept & dusted the schoolhouse. Marguerite went to George Heximers with a piece of meat & a piece for Mrs Martin Dell. Gordon went with Riexingers bucher knife. Marjorie went to Sebbets with Mrs. McCredie, came home early. I fried out the entral pot & boiled a pot of beets & churned after dinner. Henry wanted a lb. of butter Arthur ploughing cocos for in hay & the horses
Thur 5. I boiled the heads & livers & made head cheese & liverworst. Paul went to see Andrew Simpson & James McCredie about the rails. dreadful cold wind high all day from the northwest but slaked down towards night but very cold. The room stove is warm & cosey but the kitchen very cold. Marguerite, Paul & Fanny gone to Montrose sunday school entertainment. John Marshall visited the school
Friday 6 Paul drove up to see Alex McCredie about wood tried to guard the cows but they were too hateful for anything I churned in the fornoon & washed out 3 shirts for Paul & some other things. Paul spread manure in the fornoon after dinner Will & Fanny went to Chippewa with their chickens I fried out the leaf fat Marguerite & Gordon wached the cows after school
Sat. 7 not so cold Marjorie & Gordon guarded the cows Marguerite & Gordon guarded at night & Marjorie swept front room & dining room & cleaned the oil cloth. I made 2 pumkin pies 2 apple pies tarts & cookies & ironed 5 sheets 5 aprons & every thing according after Marguerite ironed a lot three or four washings in the ironing. Arthur ploughing Will & Paul up to Alex Woods after dinner, cold wind Marjorie swept the school house. I cleaned the boards & swept the yard. Gordon raked up the buchering dirt
Sun 8 rained a little in the night enough to make mud Marjorie & the children went to church. a strange minister he went to Riexingers & Marjorie & Gordon went down this afternoon & let the cows out gloomy at times & sunshine at times Don Dell in for the evening & Arthur
Mon 9 Thanksgiving. beautiful day I churned early befor Mrs. Riexinger came. she was here for dinner Will & Paul went to Alexs bush after dinner we had the work all done when Paul got home they took Frank. Arthur ploughing the children guarded the cows all day Tommy here in the evening & Fannie
Teu 10 sprinkling rain Paul took Frank & Topsy & drawed a load of rails from Andy Simpsons it commenced to come down lively for he did not draw any more after dinner Marjorie went to Chippewa took 9 lbs butter @ 26 - 2.34 sugar 25 B tea 15 green 7 my rubbers 80 soda 5 ginger 10 coal oil 18 nails 4 yarn 15 Butter & paper 5 curry comb 15 candy 5. 100 on the book. had a due bill .84 I carried 3 pails from the creek & Paul 3. The roads quite muddy Marjorie guarded the cows in the morning & the children at night we had tender loins fried for supper. she did not get home untill after dark. The teacher went to Reebs to board.
Wed 11 drizled all the fornoon but the sun ame out for awhile but got gloomy again spit snow one time the cows stayed in all the fornoon Marjorie took them out a 3 Oclock but Paul had fed them at noon so they would not eat she had to turn them in the barn yard. Marjorie knit the tops of Gordons mitts whil Marguerite & I washed the separater & dishes I mad apple dumplings for dinner. After dinner I took the meat out of the barrel & salted it over. I then went down to sweep the schoolhouse but Marguerite had it swept so I dusted for her after she took the worst of it off (Allen Heximer married today)
Thur 12. A year ago today poor Ren was burried. high north west wind then changed southwest then north-west again. Topsy had touch of collick, shut in nearly all day on dry feed Marguerite went to Riexingers first after bran then she & Marjorie sent to McCredies & got 9 lbs. Marjorie baked bread & a bread pudding. I churned & worked the butter: bitter cold tonight.
Friday 13 Will went to Chippewa with a great of chopping got 50.lbs of bran for us. bran is 1.25 pr col.: After dinner Marjorie & Gordon guarded the cows. I blacked the stove took down the stove pipe I cleaned them & blacked them Paul had an awful time putting them together. he cleaned the chimbly & put on some shingles.
I cleaned out 2 dishpans full of ashes at the lower part where the stove pipe goes in Paul & I carried in the stoop Paul put up the other up for the sake of the separater I boiled the pumkin for the pies ( Sat 14 Fannie went to Sharps
Sat 14. Marjorie & Paul went to Chippewa she took 3 1/4 of butter @ 24 85 & ½ doz eggs 14 cts bought the dishpan 25 pepper 5 sugar 25 tea 15 chamber 30. I made a cake & 5 pumkin pies & a saucer pie for the youngsters they took the bran up to McCredies, 7 when they got their dinner they took the cows out could only keep them out for an hour on account of the snow it came down so fast, almost like rain I made a nice bran mash for Topsy when she came home all covered with snow. (I went down & swept the schoolhouse)
Sun 15 The ground all covered with snow but not so cold snowing at times through the day. Arthur went to Riexingers a big chunk burned all night & the kitchen looks so comfortable.
Mon 16. snowing at times a little sunshine & very dark at times I churned & worked the butter 5 lbs 3/4. The Reeb youngster birthday party Marguerite did not go to school her shoes are so thin & no rubbers Gordon went all day at noon the snow came so thick you could not see far ahead of you. Marjorie darning her stockings & Gordons mittens.
Teu 17 Old Mrs Buchners 90 today a beautiful day sunshine all day but the west wind is chilly a man around looking at the turkeys Paul cleaned out the barn & drawed the boards to the house I cleaned the hen house out & put boards overhead I carried two pails of water for pickles but did not make it. Marguerite went all day & Gordon ½ day Paul kept him for help. Arthur took the little colt back to the field they all broke out last night. Marjorie mending Marguerites mittens.
Wed 18 Mrs. Riexinger visiting at Wells. Marjorie washed a big washing a line of colored clothes she put the white clothes to soak over night. Paul went to Harvey Dells to see about corn, He took up the little red hive & I took the honey out. There was 25 lbs in it, a beautiful day just enough wind to dry the clothes. I swept the school house & dusted it & came home & milked the cows. Paul not home yet the children had the cows out.
Thur 19 I got up & blacked the stove & made both fires. Mrs. Harvey Dell is comeing. I swept & cleaned the oil cloth on my knees made a pie & grape tarts. Marjorie swept the kitchen & pealed the potatoes & mashed them set the table the children guarded the cows All the fornoon & night they brought the corn Arthur ploughing
Friday 20 such a grand day, Marjorie put out the white clothes & baked bread. I churned & worked the butter kept some for ourselves & put 3½ for Kester. I cleaned up the lumber where the turkeys roost & swept the schoolhouse. Will went in to Chuppewa with chickens, got half lb tea 15 in money. The children had the cows out
Sat 21 Everything white with the heavy frost. Paul took Marjorie to Chippewa to go to Clifton took 3½ of butter @ 24.91 got Marguerite rubbers 60 cts. matches 5 soda 5 bromogumme 25 coal oil 9 candy 5. I made two apple pies & grape tarts & a cake. boiled pickle & made apple sauce
Sun 22 I got up made both fires. fed chicken & turkeys gave both calves their drink washed dishes & separater. The young ones went to church Paul milked
I put separater together & separated the milk he went to church. Another beautiful day smokey like Indian summer at 3 Oclock the children took the cows out for awhile
Mon 23 The children guarded the cows in the fornoon & after school. I churned & worked the butter, blacked the stove cleaned most of the floor after I cleaned The turkey buyers here got 2 goblers for 33.25. Fannie came home from Sharps rather nice day looked like rain. Paul started the post holes.
Teu 24. Marjorie came home from Clifton. Arthur ploughing. Paul boring post holes on the fornoon. I carried water to wash, went up to see {right-hand margin} about posts.
Wed 25 I washed and put the clothes to soak washed some of the colored clothes A most beautiful day wind a little cold Marjorie went after her things at Chippewa. Paul went up after the fence posts in the fornoon. Fannie & her mother went to Drummonville. Will & Paul set the posts & braced them.
Thur 26 Tom McCredie helping Arthur ploughing clothes out & washed a lot more it rained for a whole in the fornoon, but cleared up in the afternoon the wind blew terrible high the clothes whipped awfully I had to bring them in before dark I churned & worked the butter.
Friday 27. Paul went to Chippewa in the fornoon got the wire 3.74 for 1.15 took a roll of butter 3 cl 3/4 made it 3.10, sold it to Kester for the money after dinner. They made the fence & the children took the ropes home or stretchers home. I ironed & Marjorie baked bread. The wind high. I mended Pauls overalls.
Sat 28. Beautiful day. Paul drawing rail with Frank & Topsy 4 loads. Marjorie swept the front room & kitchen. Then went & swept the school house I got the honey out of the hive, took me most of the fornoon then got dinner & made 3 apple pies & white cookies & churned for ourselves. The children guarded the cows. quite cold wind.
Sun 29. Fannie & Marguerite went to the brick church not a bad day. rather too warm for comfort Will & Lill went to Reavleys
Mon 30. rained in the night. drizzling this morning the children took the cows down to the school house field when they went to school poured rain at times in the evening & the afternoon. I cleaned the pantry dishes & put grapes on the shelves Marjorie washed her bedroom windows & one front room window both children to school
Dec 1908
Teu 1. Beautiful day in the fornoon towards night it got terrible cold at night in fact when school was out it was very cold. the wind was high & from the west I went down & swept the schoolhouse & dusted Arthur finished ploughing out here. Paul started the cellar drain Marjorie washed Gordons sweater & fixed it for him to put on
Wed 2 the cold terrible wind just like winter & keeps it up so long we paid Frank $2.60 for flour he came after the barrel
I churned & worked the butter. Paul did not get much done on the drain George brought the mail.
Thur 3. pretty cold yet but the wind gone down quite a bit sun shining in the morning but after dinner got cloudy & snowed a little. one of the yellow pullets laid. I fixed the back pig pen for the turkeys & carried a lot of straw. Arthur to Riexingers buchering Marjorie went to Georges with Mrs Buyers telescope Paul on the drain all day we had to do the chores & separate the milk
Friday 4 started to snow almost rain Marjorie baking bread. I washed the separater, then went to the creek after water & Paul went too. The wind blowing strong from the west & snowing. I churned after dinner. Paul went to Chippewa took 3 lbs & 2 of butter @ 26 - 81 sugar 25 salt 5 salts 5 B quining 25 & 15 ct due bill & he never got back. The wind gone down & a little warmer.
Sat. 5 quite a little snow & rather disagreably in the morning but the sun struck out for awhile then got cloudy again Arthur & his father on the drain all day Paul mending his shoes aftter he went after the bran to Riexingers Lue brought the barrel home, & a dish of livercheese. Marjorie down sweeping the schoolhouse & dusting gets real cold at night George brought our mail but no {Spee?} came. I made 5 pumkin pies & swept & cleaned the floor. Marjorie cleaned up her room
Sun 6 Marjorie & the children Marguerite went to church Paul did not go nor Gordon either Kate & Mary here to tea, Fannie went too & she came over in the evening bright moonlight & cold the ministry went to Mrs Martin Dells. rained towards morning but did not take the snow away.
Mon. 7. the wind raw. Paul moved the Parliament House & cleaned where it stood he worked all day at it & has it quite comfortable. got itcolder at night & icy. I pealed potatoes & carrots for dinner I mended my grey flannel skirt. We have 3 hens laying eggs are 4.d at the Falls at least. Fred Dell got that price. Marjorie knitting on her stockings
Teu 8. cold west wind started yesterday afternoon very high I churned & worked the butter & made little sponge cakes to pay them back what I borrowed on Sunday. Arthur went to Chippewa with chopping Fannie & her mother went down yesterday took 15 ct due bill & got nails to fix the stable. I went down & swept & dusted the schoolhouse dark when I got home. Paul went over & paid the taxes $7.65 cts Jacob Morningstar Colector. Entertainment at Mrs Youngs school. Paul went.
Wed. 9. terrible white frost. Turkeys look hard up & cold. Paul fixed the cowstable. took all day & its stormy & cold the poor cows had to stay out - they look so cold & drawed up
Thur 10 heavy white frost this morning, & cold wind tonight to east & cold. I churned & worked the butter & made ginger cookies yesterday fornoon I mended Marguerites legings. Marjorie baked bread & yesterday she baked a lot of craked wheat cake she is knitting her black stocking. Riexingers got the mail.
Friday 11 thawing so the yard could be swept. Everything could be swept. Harvey Dell came down & bought the other turkey hen gave $1.25. & $6.75. 3 dollars of it was from last spring. In the afternoon Harvey & Murray helped them with their drain. Paul went over to Freds & got ½ bus corn paid 45 per bushel
Sat 12. George Heximer got our mail. I made 5 pumkin pies & & picked a hen & mended my waist. Marjorie swept the kitchen & cleaned the floors terrible icy horses that are not shod cannot travel
Sun. 13 we had the hen for dinner Fannie & Marguerite went to the brick. Mrs. Riexinger & Mary for tea Maggie Heximer called
Mon 14. sunshine in the fornoon. Will killed the old sow Paul shot her & John Riexinger helped. Marjorie went to Clifton took 9 lbs ½ butter & a doz & a half of eggs fresh laid. I churned & worked the butter & washed the churn. Paul carried her valise in.
Teu 15 sunshine in fornoon. After dinner Paul cleaned the cow stable & tied the calves in the horse & cows & calves were in the barnyard all day thawing & muddy. Marjorie came home. The children swept the schoolhouse.
Wed 16. thawing & muddy Marjorie took 2 lb 14 oz. of butter @ 26 & ½ doz eggs got 15 cts for them & then she took 9½ for 25 cts brown sugar 25 gran sugar 25 raisins 25 currants 3 nutmegs bottle vanilla bottle peppermint 5 bottle cinnamon lemon peel ½ doz lemons cheese & Gordons boots, candy black pepper common tall butter coller gal coal oil qt. molasses

Ethel Miller came Arthur went after her Marguerite swept yesterday & dusted today & I made her a little sponge cakes I bought a new mop. I cleaned the floor with it. the wind chilly. she went in a cutter
Sun 20 Marjorie & the children went to church then she & Gordon went to Riexingers for dinner & tea Mrs Riex. called with the address cold east wind. The minister L Wills had his mother with him. he went in his cutter. Fannie went to the brick rode with the minister & his mother Tom brought her home Arthur took Ethel in the buggy The minister brought the card with his photo & the 4 churches.
Mon 21. Arthur helped Harvey to cut feed in the afternoon I churned & worked the butter Marjorie sewing for Marguerite. I ironed her white apron fixing for her all day. They brought the Christmas tree to the school the teacher swept the floor. At night I finished Gordons mittens.
Teu 22. cold east wind school entertainment Marjorie & Paul went quite cold. a good entertainment, they for just the scholars. I cleaned the raisins for the cake & washed the currants Arthur in for awhile him & the girls went to McCredies at night. I cleaned the currants at night.

Thur 24. Marjorie & Reeb went to Chippewa. I was sick all the fornoon & in the afternoon I baked the cak I had it mixed the night befor Paul killed two fine roosters weighed 6 1/4 I took the insides out made the dressing for them & made a batch of currant cookies. Marjorie made the pudding. Marjorie & Reeb filled the stockings. Ethel went home & Arthur helping Riexingers to cut wood. tea 15 sugar 25 bromogumme 25 soda 5 soda biscuits 10 tea 2. mittens 60. candy 12 mittens 60, coal oil 18 felling nails 13, butter 5 3/4
Christmas Friday 25. dull day. Fannie & Arthur went to Reavleys we roasted the two chickens eat only 1 have the other for tomorrow Marjorie steamed the pudding.
Sat. 26. Mary over to send to Chippewa sent for the mail with Hubby Riexingers cutting feed. I churned & made 3 mince pies & dressed a hen for sunday. had the roast chicken for supper mended a shirt for P and got our presents from Trumbles. Marjorie cleaned the floor, & swept the front room

Wed 30 The first thing in the morning Paul brought in our poor little Baby kitten with her entrals all dragging poor little pet suffered untill six at night when she was done with all her little cunning ways. The day was so dark & gloomy untill late in the afteroon when the sun struck out for awhile when Kate Riexinger was in came to tell Mrs Dell wanted half a pig raining most of the fornoon but did not catch much water School meeting Harvey Dell went in again Paul killed 3 hen & a little rooster for Willick. moonlight & freezing tonight.
Thurs 31 sunshine in the fornoon they buchered two little pigs for Willick Fannie & her father went in the afternoon & took our chicken the hens & one little rooster weighed 18.3 1/3 @ 12 ½ per lb came 13 shillings & 2 cts just paid for the bran 12 over our poor little kitten was burried. cold stormy in the afternoon when they were coming home Marjorie took the banding of my skirt she shortened it & put the binding on I was fixing my old {black sash?}

Friday 1. Beautiful sunshine all day. cold wind & high I went over to Mrs Riexinger had dinner & supper & they had a chicken for dinner. Kate & Mary came home with me & came in May was there too she looked fine. Fannie cut Marjories skirt out
Sat. 2. Marjorie baked bread & swept the front room. I washed dishes all fornoon. After dinner churned worked the butter swept the kitchen & cleaned it blacked the stove after Fannue & Marjorie went to Riexingers at night to see about the teameeting

Mon 11. sunshine part of the day Jennie came over after breakfast I churned & worked the butter. Teu 12 Snow quite deep & snowing yet wind turned northwest Arthur & Lue went in the big sleigh after the victuals Paul took Marjorie & the youngsters over to the church about 4 Oclock. Fannie made the sandwiches. Paul & Fannie & a lot of others trimed the church in the fornoon. Paul took Jennie & I over in the cutter, turned bitter cold some say 16. others 14 but the truth was eight. I guess we were about froze when we got home had to make a fire when we got home splendid tea meeting made $37.20

Friday 15 cold & icy wind east Marge Riexinger brought over some fresh beef Tom McCredie brought the Engine & cutting box in fornoon was here for dinner I washed the worst of the doors cleared up the back kitchen Marjorie cleaned the floor I got up at six Oclock blacked the stove & made the fire Will & Arthur helped & Tommy I paid Tom $3.75. social at Browns at night, made 9.10 cts wind east & bitter cold the coldest this winter froze some of our plants with a fire untill 12 Oclock could not get Paul up next day untill nearly 9 Oclock
Sat 16 the wind East & bitter cold we let the cats all in & swept & cleaned the floor. last night or this morning those people were killed at Grimsby at night the snow came in every crack

Teu 19. Will took his pigs down. got a lb of Bologna, at the buchers 2 3/4 of butter @ 29.72. sugar 25 tea 30, Cornmeal 3 lb 10 cts. Ginger 2 oz 1.00 soda 5 corn cure 10 paid 90. Kate came over to give word to Paul to go in the afternoon to the ice house. I made ginger cookies & Marjorie baked bread. The youngsters swept & it was late when the work was done my head & neck was awful I could not turn my head with neuralgia Paul killed the rooster & a pullet & I picked & dressed them
Wed 20. After dinner Marjorie went to Clifton on the Fraser took the chickens to Mrs Day came to 90 cts & two doz eggs @ 35=40. & got 25 cts veal mittens 12 cts for Paul & bottle pain killer for him the chldren & I got the work all done befor dark & washed out my red shirt & an apron & fixed the fence back of the shack. I had a rice pudding for supper. wrote a letter to Will Hearth Fannie over in the evening.
Thur 21. I did the chores all but watering the cows Will came in time to separate the milk. Marjorie came home on the 9 Oclock train had to go after dinner with the horse for the valise had veal potpie for supper. I churned & worked the butter the road getting muddy & stuck fast when I went to the creek after water. roads awful.
Friday 22 snowing night and mud awful. I cleared up the back kitchen got Arthur to empty the flour after dinner & washed my underwear & grey waist & made two apple pies Marjorie made onion soup. terrible dark in the morning when Paul went away he had to take a lantern
Sat 23. pouring rain when Paul got up he did not start untill it slacked up rained quite hard in the fornoon. I churned & worked the butter had a nice roll the last we will have 2 lb 15 cts =3 after we took enough for supper & Pauls dinner. I made 3 {?} cleaned up the pantry & cleaned my bedroom floor. Marjorie swept the front room. I cooked the last of our carrots. The children took Tip up to Allen Heximers. After they swept the school house.
Sun 24. no church here. water shoe deep nearly between the barn & house. George Riexinger & Frank to dinner to Wills they brought the mail Fannie in the for evening. not freezing one bit mud loads up something dreadful (Mon 25 Tom McKeown & Fred Dell ploughing
Mon 25. Allen Heximer brought down Johns message about poor Mary being worse. I churned for ourselves. Marjorie washed something that got stained in the clothes basket & our table cloths. I made apple dumpling for supper. great big ones, had sauce for them. froze some in the night.

Arthur took his father & Fannie down to Chippewa to catch the train for Bertie when he came back he & Lue killed two pigs George came down with Lue & went over to Marshalls where they are getting out timber, thawing where the sun dont shine. Mrs. Riexinger in here in the afternoon. wind west & real cold. I made a meat pie for supper. Marjorie ironed the two table cloths & some other things Paul came home early the engine broke froze hard at night & thaws in the day.
Wed 27. Arthur took the pigs down. quite a snow squal this fornoon. Sun. 31. nice sunshine but bitter cold at night. 7 below zero. 4 eggs. not bad for such weather they cannot get any farther than the hen house roads getting broke slowly. Arthur did not go to Bertie poor Mary was burried this afternoon poor patient girl she is done with her suffering oweing to Hattie's good nursing she was spared to prepare for a better world than this if Hattie had not gone to her she might have gone without any preparation to meet the Maker.

Mon 1. sun nice & bright but cold not too cold as yesterday. Paul took the children to school in the cutter then he went to Chippewa walked. took a roll of butter 2 lb 13 oz got down to 26 cts again. lb tea 30, gran sugat 25, ginger soda 5 note paper 1 d, butter came to 80.74. paid out 80 wind blowing tonight from the southwest: 4 eggs today. Paul bought his shirt & sock I churned & worked the butter. Marjorie working on her waits.
Teu. 2. very changeable the bear saw his shadow Paul went to Clifton & stayed all night. Maggie Heximer here for dinner quite good sleighing Maggie rode home with George he had a big load mill feed, we had to do the chores.

I baked the bread after I mixed it made biscuits for dinner. snow going fast last day of sleighing
Friday 5. sleighing gone water laying all over yard I swept the back yard water just in little ponds. Marjorie went over to Riexingers to phone for Minnie Brown I churned & worked the butter Paul brought over two barrels with a lot of rotten apples

Paul to Tom McCredies such a day to do chores & no water had to carry for the horse & calves old Roy would not drink had to dip out of the well here about 2 qts at a time I had to put hay & cut it for the horse, feed & milk & bed the things after baking bread. Wed 10 Uncle John Spedding dead 84 years yesterday. another terrible day raining last night when we went to bed rained most of the night this morning wind west & started to snow then drift The sun struck out at intervales then it would blow & drift they had such a rough time comeing home & at night it was awful to get the chores done its enough to give one the Grip Paul as usual did not get home untill after dark. Friday 12. beautiful day sunshine all day & wind south west I washed out some things & cleaned the {page is cut off } kitchen. Will & Lilly went over to see Mrs. Dell she is sick Paul cut up the last of the rails. it made a big pile.
Sat. 13 terrible dry wind north east: Gordon started to put the wood in the woodshed. Arthur throw it in. I{t?} was a good thing I got my work done I dont feel much like doing anything much. I put clean paper in the cupboard behind the stove & on one shelf in the pantry made three apple pies & little sponge cakes at night. I was all choked up at night. a goodthing the children swept the schoolhouse last night Annie Marshall to Wills- came from Riexingers dreadful cold northeast wind in the afternoon Rale Bernharded & her friend to Riexingers. Will went to Mrs. Dells to see Dr Bell & wants to go to Bufalo tomorrow.
Sun 14 Paul went over to the church to make fire turned out dreadful stormy in the afternoon the hail cut like ice glass from the north east. I took some of Dr. Bells medicine & it mad{e} me very sick Fannie & Annie over in the afternoon storm kept up all night. Fannie came over in the evening & put the youngsters to bed & got us our supper.
Mom 15 Storming yet this morning the snow or hail is hard you can walk all over it . Lilly came over this morning. Marguerite stayed from school. Arthur took Annie home on the cutter he says the sleighing is grand, in the afternoon he & Paul went to Chippewa he drove Nell because he wanted to get her shod. drove Pauls cutter. took 3½ doz eggs 30 cts pr doz 1.05. & a due bill 65 for 2½ of butter got 30 d of tea coal oil 18 soda 5 soda biscuits 10 cornmeal 10 bread 30 2 cts candy. Kate Riexinger called. Fannie here when she came Tom McCredie after Paul tomorrow started to storm again at night & some snow fell on the icy snow
Teu 16 blowing.& drifting at times then hailing for all it worth from the north east; something dreadful at times. Mr. Paul went all the same. Arthur came over & watered the cows & brought a pail from the creek & Fannie brought a pail from home. & Will came over to drag the cows from the hay stack then Paul came after
Arthur & help bail hay the children carried snow & I melted enough for the horse & the calves. Will came over at noon to do the chores but the feed was left down for the youngsters to put in. Will went to a business meeting at the church about the shed. I churned & worked the butter I made a Johny cake for supper & stewed dried apples we had roast mutton for dinner & supper. & yesterday dinner & supper. Fannie came with another pail of water & milked the cows. Will came over & told the youngster to let the cows out he was going down to fill the Crib I melted snow for the horse & calves & they carried it out 7 eggs
Wed 17 wind north west & drifting the snow that came yesterday & quite cold McCredies pressing hay at the lower barn Paul coming up for dinner & doing the the chores got done late Marguerite swept the schoolhouse. Marjorie came home from Clifton came the night befor & today she & Jennie went over the river she waited untill dark & had to walk. I melted snow & cleaned the floor & washed the chairs got 9 eggs I made a Johny cake
Thur 18 Arthur to the stone Bee for Tom McCredie. Paul drawed two loads of rails with Frank & Topsy just beautiful sleighing. After dinner he took Topsy & went after Marjories things & got his woolen coat he took 1 doz & 8 eggs paid 30 cts we owed hin & 20 cts brown sugar. the party at Reavleys Kate Riexinger here after her mail, bright sunshine all day wind got around east again. Mr McDonald came in the morning & going to stay all night.
Friday 19 a very changeable day sleighing going some but the sleighing was made up of sleet & hail it dont go fast Arthur went after a load of stone for Tom McCredie with his own horses I baked bread & made apple dumplings for dinner & biscuits for supper. I was almost overheated the house was so hot.
Satday 20. thawing all day rained in the night shed full of snow I churned & peeled apples for 8 pies & made cookies Marjorie swept the kitchen & cleaned it & washed out a few things & Mr McDonalds collars. I ironed them Arthur & Paul around breaking the colt
Sun 21. rather dull most of the day a little sunshine Arthur took Ollie & Fannie down in the cutter to Chippewa church then the girls walked up to the brick church & Paul too but our minister got Miss Rowe burried Maggie Dell called here yesterday her cousin Sarah Hixon was burried this week
Mon 22 beautiful day sunshine & thawing Mr McDonald went away Arthur & Paul drawed up rails in the fornoon with the colt & Jack party to Mrs Martin Dells. All from the other house & Paul

Mon 1. Sunshine part of the day. Will got on his stack. Paul in the afternoon wandering around with his gun, we had the rabbit for dinner that he caught in the trap Marjorie took Riexingers flour home. Paul shot their cat The girls went to George Heximer in the afternoon Tom McCredie & Don & Tom to Wills in the evening.
Teu 2 nice sunshine most of the day. thawing & muddy chilly. Paul cut a lot of wood & made a gate for the barn yard the youngsters swept the school house. The girls went to see Mrs Dell, Marjorie baked bread & made a tapioca pudding for supper, & a doe cake enough for two or three meals.
Wed 3. Terrible blustery & hailing at times from the east then in the fornoon the snow came in great flakes the air was just thick with it. Mrs McCredie to the other house the girls took her home. Arthur came home from McCredies at noon. Paul went to Riexingers after a peck of beans paid 50 cts. stayed & got his dinner. I fed the cattle at night Riexinger cattle got in the creek & lost 3 head broke through the ice Will, Arthur & Paul went down. Fannie & Ollie over in the evening a rough night the wind turned in to the west
Thur 2. One year ago today Hattie went to Speddings another changeable day sunshine, wind west & drifting at times. Arthur & Paul went to help Riexinger skin the cattle they brought us two quarters & Wills two. such nice meat its a great loss to them. I churned & worked the butter about 2 1/4 for ourselves Marjorie sewing on her night dress.
Friday 5 Will & Fred went to Welland after shingles for the church shed. Arthur took Ollie home Fannie went with her. very cold day went in a {page cut off} - very good sunshiny day in spots. I churned for ourselves. The children swept the schoolhouse.

Marjorie went to Chippewa. 4 doz eggs @ 25 - 1.00. butter 3 3/4 @ 25. tea 30. biscuits 10. soda 5 sugar 24 molasses 12. cocoa 12. bromogumme plates 40 cts. coal oil 18 lb peal 5 raisins 10 I swept & cleaned the floor, washed my waist; drawers, & stockings & a shirt for Paul. & my great skirt; made grape tarts & a pie, cleaned the back kitchen, washed both tables, & put paper in the three cornered cupboard, & washed; the worst of the dishes & wiped the others. Sun 7. Mrs Riexinger for tea Kate brought her, quite icy I read of alot of Bishop Richardsons book.

Thur 11. beautiful sunshine all day but quite raw Mrs Riexinger brought our mail & the seeds from Eatons. Will gone to see Pet.
Friday 12. beautiful day. Mrs. Zimerman & Hattie came I churned & worked the butter. Marjorie sent with Maggie for her skirt but she did not get it
Sat 12. Arthur went to Chippewa with that man & his potatoes
Hattie & Mrs Zimerman came over to tea but Hattie had to go home Miss Marshall came & stayed all night: she brought us 8 lb of lard @ 15 pr lb 1.20. I made two apple & elderberry pies, made a dozen tarts out of preserved pears & peaches mixed & white cookies. Marjorie made an apple sauce cake the first of the week. Marjorie swept & cleaned the floor. Paul blacked the stove when he got up. Marjorie the youngsters night gowns. Marguerite cleaned the lamps & washed the chairs.
Sun 14 Missionary meeting. Arthur took Miss Marshall home then drove to church. Olly & Lilly brought Fannie home came over to church. quite stormy snow almost like rain. The youngsters went over to the other house in the afternoon
Mon 15. Beautiful day sunshine all day but cold wind gets colder towards night: but thawing very cold in the morning northwest wind. Mrs. Riexinger brought 2 lb butter for her customer Arthur drawed 2 loads of rails with Jack & the black colt. in the afternoon Will went to McCredies to cut feed, & Arthur & Paul drawed manure from their barn. Mrs Zimerman went home Marjorie went to Drummondville had 2½ lbs butter ought to be 70 & she allowed 63 - 107 for eggs got brown sugar 25 black & white thread 10 bar soap 15 2 lb salts & corn starch 10. got 50 cts bran 60. paid $1.00 for native herbs of the egg money took two due bills one for 7 cts & one . 65. lb tea 30. & the rest on fish. Wells heifer had on a calf at night.
Teu 16 Dr Glasgows funeral. we had to get up early to get Paul off on the train to go to Welland the wind blew a gale & snowed. sometimes it came on fits & starts one time got so black you could not see. an awful big funeral Fannie went to Chippewa & Arthur & Hattie went by Fraser Hattie stayed all night & started for Buffalo next day. I cleaned the stable & beded them while Marjorie & Gordon watered the cows & horse.
wed 17. Doctor Burgar burried. colder than yesterday & wind from the west instead of south west as yesterday I got up twenty minutes to 7. & made the fire went back to bed untill 7. then the house was warm. I got breakfast & Marjorie went out & fed then we had breakfast & she & the children watered the things & Marjorie milked & I separated the milk & washed the dishes & separater the youngsters took their dinner. Paul got home he stayed in Welland all night at the Mansion House, cold night Wills cow that used to be long horn had a calf in the night.
Thur 18. I churned & worked the butter: Marjorie working at the fold on her skirt. Will went down to Chippewa after Hattie nice sunshine & cold wind. he took 1 doz eggs @ 20 cts for us & got 1 dozen of fish. Paul kept the smoke house going all day
Friday 19. dull, & stormy snowing & raining at times Marjorie baked a big baking. Kate Riexinger here all afternoon & Will came in befor her & Arthur came in. Paul making the door at the stable. cowstable in two parts.
Sat. 20 wind north, I was sick with a cold. Marjorie swept & cleaned the kitchen swept the front room & washed her underwear Marguerite washed her underwear Fannie went to Sharps Arthur took her to the Fraser. station cold wind but thawing some.
Sun 21 wind north-east. Hattie to dinner we had the salmon trout for dinner. Arthur took Hattie & Marguerite to the brick church cold but thawing. bright sunshine. Will went over to see Jerry Brown. Jerry had an absess opened. Marguerite went in from church & stayed all night. & to breakfast next morning.
Mon 22. beautiful sunshine but cold wind Hattie over in the evening with her Harp. Ben Saylor & Woodhead at Wills Hattie up to Ben Heximers in the afternoon. Yesterday they called on John Lundy. snowing but cold.
Teu 23. John Marshall at the school in the fornoon. I made ginger cookies & cleaned the lower part of the corner cupboard.
Sat 3. Dull most of the day with the least little sunshine once. drizled rain. & snowed & melted as fast as it came Every where out of doors look filthy but not so cold Paul gone to Chippewa. Marjorie swept & cleaned the floor Marguerite ironing has a lot of her own to iron I made ginger cookies & 3 elderberry pies mixed with Plums Paul caught a small mess of fish yesterday we are going to have them for supper. At 3 Oclock cleared up & the sun struck out, after Paul came home he went over after part of the bran.
Sun 4 no meeting here Arthur went to Will Dells for dinner then to the brick church. Mr. Longmyer preached roads terrible Hattie came over in the afternoon & stayed for tea she was not very well sick the day befor.
Mon 5 Bee at the church they finished shingling 17 in the fornoon & about 30 in the afternoon nice warm day the warmest we have had this spring & the first time I heard the frogs. I started on my print skirt. Paul to the Bee. Will Dell to the other house for dinner Bella Wells came to the other house rode up with Jen Tuft.
Teu 6. drizling in the afternoon. Marjorie washed, most of woolens Arthur over in the evening. The youngsters gone to Montagues they were told to stay all night if it rained hard. Paul took the turkey to Harveys at night caught a mess of fish. rained some in the night.
Wed 7. Terrible high southwest wind something awful. a little rain in the morning The wind kept rising untill it was something dreadful the house shook like an old ship Wills barn roof nearly gone. I never felt the wind like it in my life time. I cleaned the stove pipe or I believe it would fall on fire most of the bee hives blew over at 8 it got a little lower then raised in the night about -12. I thought I would have to get up. The children never came home from Bella Montagues went last night
Thur 8 last day of school. wind changed cold north west now Marjorie fixing things to go away, with Marguerite ironing & washing.
Friday 9. Goodfriday. Hattie & Bella went to Mrs Dells Turned to a terrible day snowing & blowing something awful. I was going to Riexingers but it turned out so bad I was glad I was glad I did not go. I worked on my print skirt my head just ached something awful
Sat. 10 Mrs Catharine Dell burried Arthur & John Riexinger dug the grave. stormy part of the time then the sun would strike out then snow again & cold west wind Marjorie went to Chippewa in the Cart. roads just awful had three doz eggs @ 20 1½ butter @ 22. - 35 eggs 60. sugar 25 can Pumkin 10 ginger 10 soda 5 Herrings 20 coffee 15 I made 3 Plum & Elderberry pies batch ginger cookie cleaned the floor. Marjorie swept the front room yesterday Marjorie & Marguerite ironed up things they needed Paul went on the {Secttion?} to work
Sun. 11 Easter Sunday. no preaching here the minister has a cold. Marjorie Marguerite started down to Clifton then over the river. Hattie went up after dinner to see Clara & the baby.
Mon 12. I went down after I got the work done & swept & dusted the schoolhouse the mud was 2 inches thick on the boys side. Will sold his heiffers calf. There was a terrible stron{g} southwest wind blowing or else I dont know when the dust would have {sealed?} I told Gordon to go to the other house while I was down there. The fire went out so I blacked the stove. Arthur came home from Sharps.
Teu 13. I made patty pan cakes. in the afternoon it started to rain Mary Riexinger brought the mail it was raining hard when she went home. Frank walked down Bella went up to Pels & stayed all night Will & Arthur in when she as here. Thur 15 Youg Mid had 2 kitts yesterday. Hattie & Arthur went to Chippewa took a doz. eggs got 2 lbs biscuits. Will sold the heiffer calf
Friday 16 Hewson came up & pruned Wills black currants nice day Hattie & the other girls went to Clifton to get their pictures taken. Will sowing grass seed on our place. Topsy jumped on my foot. I had an awful looking foot. I baked bread & a pie & made pickles. raining at night. Hattie came over & stayed all night. Lilly was over {twice?} Paul had to get his own supper & get his dinner up.
Sat. 17 Hattie got the breakfast, made the beds & swept watered the horse & helped Gordon to water the calves. I cleaned the floor blacked the stove made four pumkin pies & separated the milk Hattie came & stayed all night. Arthur & Bella over in the evening. Mrs Riexinger brought the mail.
Sun 18. thundered befor we got up. Hattie helped with the work befor she went home. Arthur took her to the brick church Bella over in the afternoon. Just as we were going to sit down to supper Mrs Riexinger & Mary & Arthur came in & stayed for a long time.
Mon 19. looks like rain in the fornoon but the sun was shining but the rain did not come untill late in the afternoon. I churned & made cakes Hattie made the bed & swept befor she went Will Dell got his oats & potatoes & currant bush. Gordon went to see where the turkey was she was at Mrs Martin Dells in the afternoon. it rained Marguerite came back got caught in the rain by not comeing in the morning. Hattie came over & stayed all night.
Teu 20. They both went to school. I mended Pauls socks while Bella was here I could do nothing else they had to sweep the school house

Marjorie came home awaway nearly two weeks. two weeks from Sunday. brought 25 cts of veal we had it for supper with potpie I baked 5 loaves & a dish of buns. & I made white cookies. Sun 25 church Sunday. The minister to the other house for dinner sprinkled rain first as church was out sun came out nice in the afternoon but high wind. roads rough & dry Arthur went to the brick with the minister the wind was in every direction but east north at night Montague youngsters here for Marguerite & Gordon to go to the graveyard.
Mon 26. nice sunshine all day but cold wind Marjorie went to Riexingers & paid $3.00 for cloves seed & spoke for another peck of beans & Kate brought them in the afternoon to the bush & Marjorie went up & got them. Bella went down to the Falls I am sewing on my pillowslips & cut out my grey skirt
Teu 27. Tom McCredie scraped the roads. threatened rain all fornoon so Arthur did not go with the hay to Gonder then got caught in the rain cleared up in the evening

Thur 29. started to snow just as Paul started to his work & kept getting worse pouring at times snowing at times & hailing & at night a thunder storm & so cold & just poured rain. The youngsters stayed home in the afternoon the storm was so bad from the east we had to keep the hens shut up all day & the cows. had the little brown hen
Friday 30 bright sunshine all day untill near the time Paul came home when it got dark & thundered but did not amount to much. Marjorie baked a big bakeing yesterday & I made a custard pie & patty pan cakes today. Marjorie went in the cart to Chippewa had 3½ doz eggs @ 18. sugar 25 tea 15 paid 14 for me on Bromogumme & I paid 11 cts on the sugar I got 2 qts coal oil 9 Paul quit the railroad today. Sat 1. sunshine part of the time & rained a little towards night & at bed time snowing for alls its worth. poor little Blue died. taken sick night befor last & suffered all that night, & all day yesterday poor little kitt. Paul spent the day in Chippewa. Gordon spent the most of the day at Riexingers. Hattie came in from Riexingers where she was collecting for the church. I swept & cleaned the floor & made 3 pumkin pies. They sent part of a pumkin over, poor little Beebe sick tonight;
Sun 2. Quarterly meeting at Crowland terrible stormy day snowing & blowing sometimes the snow comes so fast you cannot see to the road when the sun would come out for a few minutes. wind cold & from the west. Paul to dinner to Riexingers Hattie over in the evening giveing the children their Sunday school lesson Marguerite over here to tea.
Mon 3. The turkey laid her first egg. cold west wind but sunshine & rain about noon or near Paul fixed the currant bushes at least took the dead ones out fixed the fence & fate, & made a hog yard with rails Arthur started him on it. Marjorie working on her wrapper, & I finished my grey skirt. poor Beebe is sick yet. Will & Arthur carried their potatoes out of the cellar.
Teu 4. bright sunshine bur froze ice over the tub last night cold west wind ground terrible wet Hattie gone in the cart to Port to take the ministers money as she did not get up to Crowland yesterday as it was stormy about the time she ought to go. Arthur going after dinner with Gonders oats he bought 25 lbs bran for us at the mill Riexinger girls came down with the pictures Leslie Young around after a girl. had a beautiful pumkin pie for supper
Wed 5 Marjorie worked a big washing washed two shirts & an apron for me. Mrs Riex here for supper. I churned & made cake for supper & churned. Peter DeWitt bought the calves 15 for the red one 14 for the spotted one. bought Wills two calves Paul away fishing with Allens net - caught a mess of mixed fish & a Carp. I cooked the Carp for dinner Hattie & her mother went to Chippewa got tea ½ lb sugar, soda nails
Thur 6 Arthur & Hattie went to Welland after corn but it was too high 90 cts. he got middlings for the sow. they got their Lineoleum for their kitchen they went out to Sharps for dinner when they were comeing home they nearly got caught in a storm the wind was east & the storm came from the north & west. stoped long enough to get the dishes washed then started & lasted untill after 11 Arthur was over untill the storm was over. the rain just poured. It was today I got the jars packed & sink out
Friday 7. Wills sow had 11 pigs lost one she is very sick I cleaned the big box in the wood house & packed the jars after I washed most of them got a lot got a lot of trash out of the wood house got the sink out today I papered the cupboard & the corner by it & one side done. Marjorie baked bread yesterday she worked on her wrapper. Paul patched the roof this afternoon.
Sat -8. I cleaned out the wood house down to the ground hand out everything got Paul to put the barrels of oats out. Then I cleaned the big cupboard swept & cleaned the floor & all the boards out-side. Marjorie sweot the kitchen & cleaned it made pan cake for dinner & syrup. Will Dell got a load of hay yesterday. Marjorie ironed some & Marguerite some. Harveys wife was here in the afternoon. Will went to see the Vet about the sow Paul was out fishing with {Don?} got a nice Pike & a few others quite a hot day the house like an oven
Sun 9. Had a small thunder storm about 2 Oclock this morning & quite a pour down, & rained or sprinkled off & on untill they went to church. Marjorie & Marguerite went Marjorie went to Riexingers for dinner & tea got the Easiest chair in the house. no threatning of a storm could start her Arthur went to the brick church we had some thunder this afternoon I made our fire it was so hot had custard & bread & butter for supper. Mid had 3 kitts today & Beebe one yesterday she was sick for a whole week
Mon 10 raining when we got up & continued most all day & at night - poured all night, such a dreary looking night Paul went to Clifton to draw his pay & did not come back I was sewing some & Marjorie cut out her skirt waist, she got over the river {wet!!?} Mrs Riexinger came over after separator oil
Teu 11. Paul came home after dinner today was pay day he got his new hat & shoes, did not get much done
Wed 12. We cleaned the pantry in the afternoon Marjorie washed the dishes & I cleaned the paper & washed the wood work & put the paper on the shelves. Marjorie took up the old carpet on the back kitchen it was a dirty job. Paul gone with Arthur to Aden Dells with hay.
Thur 13. Will & Marjorie went to Chippewa took 5 doz eggs & 3 came to 94 cts plaster 25 I paid 14 on it. pepper 5 tea 15 coal oil 9 wall paper for the dining room 60 in cash 20 out of Paul money. Paul & Arthur took the stove out last night. While they were at Chippewa washed dishes untill 11 then churned. Paul & Marjorie went at the fron{t}room when he got back from Gonders where he & Arthur took hay. They took everything out carpet up & pounded & swept paper down carpet. down just at dark thunder storm lasted untill 11 Oclock.
Friday 14. raining & pouring at times. Peter De Witt came after the cattle. paid $30 for the two calves & 27 for Wills two they had an awful times with Wills one calf it is so wild. Marjorie washed had Pauls pink shirt & a collar to do up she washed her white quilt & orange & two table cloths. I papered the east side of the kitchen & got the meals. The children & teacher cleaned up the school house instead of last friday pouring rain when they came home for dinner,
Sat. 15 Paul went to Falls View to see Gonder. took 1 doz & 3 eggs for bread sold them to old Leach for 25 got 5 loaves & 5 on Wed. besides our own bread. Marjorie ironed Pauls shirts & collars & the two tablecloths & cleaned the pictures. I washed the dining room woodwork. I washed the kitchen doors & window cleaned the floor & made two pies grape & patty pan cakes. Gordon cleaned the calf pen & Lucy went in for the first a thunder storm came up befor 8 & lasted untill 10 a continuel roll of thunder. Arthur & Frank Riexinger over to gather up railroad Ties & stayed at Freds untill after the storm

Mon 17 cold west wind. looked like rain or snow. Marjorie went twice to Chippewa after Mr Drake to put the eavetroughs up. Will came over & helped him. she took 2 doz eggs for us got 25 ct sugar 2 loaves bread. 12 since wed besides homemade took 2½ doz for Will got it in sugar. Paul went in the morning too Gonders. Hattie went to Crowland to business meeting. Will Arthur intended to draw railroad ties if Frank had been home - roads terrible she got 25 cts worth of fresh meat. Lilly let us have some butter & pickles we paid Arthur 1 dollar on potatoes I washed the dining room ceiling, looks like a storm tonight The eavetrough came to $5.84 Paul came tonight after his clothes
Teu 18 Will & Arthur gone after their railroad ties Marjorie went over to Riexingers & borrowed some bran then went to Mrs McCredies & for some flower slips. After dinner Arthur went to Port for {?} Will & Lilly went to Chippewa got a gal oil I washed the dishes then took a notion to go papering the winter kitchen got quite a lot done Marjorie started her bedroom after she came home Lucy along the road poor Rose kept in dry her up we will have to let her out we cannot dry her up she keeps increasing her milk
Wed 19. finished papering she is at her room its slow work today meal getting kitts a lot of time Marg. Riexinger was here after a root of bleeding heart. Arthur drawed up the rest of the rails down the road there was quite a lot of them he drawed with Jack & his black colt. The colt draws fine. Marjorie went out & helped him unload each time Hattie busy cleaning their parlor
Thur 20 old Rose went out on grass for the first. Marjorie & Gordon went to Clifton got Gordons clothes & a lot of matting from Jennie. Ida is going to have an operation she is no better had a doz. & 3 eggs @ 20 - 25 gal ½ lb tea 15 can cocoa 10. bar soap 15 she got pillow sham holders for Hattie & herself. 25 cts bread Will went to De Witts got 100 of flour for us. I carried water from the creek to wash the windows in the room. wind east. she got bran at the mill Arthur starting on the ground in their own land its pretty wet
Friday 21. drizling rain most of the day. I emptied my barrel of rain water & washed the barrel & put it on the west side of the house yesterday. I intended to wash today but it too disagreeable. Marjorie put up the drapes on the shelves hung up the pictures & washed all the toys & trinkets for the shelves Lucy had her calf a little heiffer just one year ago she had her other bess the one DeWitt got for 15
Sat 22. Ida was to have her operation today at 11 Oclock Marjorie baked a big bakeing & put down the carpet & matting in the kitchen & scrubed all the boards off. I fixed a place for the turkey & set her & put the matting down in my bedroom & corded the bed swept & cleaned the room, made two grape pies & tarts & small cakes. The children walked to Chippewa after dinner gone 4 hours took a dozen eggs got ½ lb soda 1 lb lard. Bertha & Fannie & the children came at night; they finished their field I see Will going to furrow out. cold night wind north east
Sun 23. bright sunshine cool wind. The children went to church a stranger preached. Fannie stayed home & took care of the baby. The children gone to Sunday school Arthur went to Reavlys. Don Sharp came after dinner Russ Hartlys wife & the Miseners girl down in the evening Will came over here there was too many women over there

Such a beautiful day but sad for we heard Ida had a Cancer. when they opened her Sat. : Mrs Read & Hattie to Wills Hattie went over to Fraser after them. at night Bertha, Fannie & the Clifton folks all went to the station. Hattie took them & spent the day to Riexingers had a good visit: their white faced mare had a colt in the night, cold wind. Arthur working in the eleven acre field. Mary up to Pels.
Teu 25 Marjorie & Hattie started over the river to see Ida but could not see her she is so low Hattie stayed to Mrs Buyers all night & Marjorie came over & stayed to Jennies. I churned for our selves Riexingers killed their sow Arthur & Will went over, they finished their field then came down here & desked {disked} a lot here
Wed 26. We shut the house up he started to sow hay too it looks like rain east wind for 3 days I ironed a lot out of the basket. Marjorie & Hattie came home Paul drove up a night with tomato & cellary plants & 2 loaves bread @ 25 cts sugar
Thur 27. raining this morning poured at times the sun came out nice in the afternoon they are working on the field this afternoon. Marjorie went over & Phoned to Fannie about Ida mended Pauls pants
Friday 28 I churned the first thing so Marjorie could go to Chippewa to see about what train Will would take tomorrow for Toronto. Will & Arthur worked on the oats all day Everything I had was dirty. I washed Pauls clothes & Gordons shirt a cold wind had to put on a coat ever time I hung out anything
Sat 29. Hattie took her father & Will Dell to the station. took eggs 1 doz got a qt vinegar 8 can pumkin 10 cts I made 3 pumkin pies a ginger cake & a sponge cake. Arthur finishing up the oat ground she swept the front room & Marguerite dusted. she swept the dining room & ironed her curtain & some of her things & the childrens I ironed what I washed I tended the kitchen work
Sun 30 We expected the childrens father but he did not come. Hattie walked to the brick church. Paul came up from Gonders Arthur took him to the station at night. Riexingers girls here in the evening.
Mon 31. Arthur did some furrowing out on the oat field then ploughed the potato patch & a land for garden turns up in big lumps I fixed my flower bed by the house & planted some seeds. Marjorie took her gladiolus up for him to plough. Will came back from Toronto

Teu 1. They started on their corn ground. Paul came back from Gonders after he came Marjorie & him went to Drummondville. he bought his watch. had 3 lb butter @ 8 - 5 ct two doz. eggs @ 18. 34. - 88 butter paper 5 radish seed 3 bread 10 after they got home he made Topsy harrow the patch & got the tomatoes & cellary in. I cleared up the dining room & swept washed the churn I churned yesterday. made pan cakes for dinner
Wed. 2 he put the Petunias out & I carried 2 pails of water from the creek for them & the cellary. Marjorie went to Riexingers after pieplant & I made 2 pies befor she got home with some Paul got to the other house. I made ginger cookies Marjorie baked a big bakeing of bread the house like an oven
Thur 3. I got 14 eggs from Hattie to set a hen the only one we have Marjorie put out some onion sells in the pig pen. I planted a lot of flower seed. Hattie came over yesterday & we divided the big sweet-scented Geranium. I churned for our selves. Marjorie working on Marguerites sunbonnet & her jacket Jennie gave her Paul helped them plant corn.

Hinges 30 paid money all but 29 .. 1ou after I washed dishes & separater I went & cleaned a lot out of the pigpen but it rained some enough to make it nasty I had to quit & get dinner, after dinner I cleared up my chest: & mended Pauls coat. Marjorie put the screen on the porch window & the east window in the kitchen. wind east all the week they are working on their potato ground
Sat. 5. I swept the dining room & moped it. made two pie plant pies & small cakes & a custard pie for supper. Will & Paul gone to Welland I churned the first thing in the morning. Marjorie washed the frontroom windows, swept the front room & kitchen. The children guarded the cows in fornoon & went to Harvey Dells after dinner & got her sweeping money. when she went after the cows I cleaned up the boards swept the yard up & got Pauls supper Arthur sick in the fornoon afternoon went to Chippewa & got Net shod took 1 doz & 4 eggs got granulated sugar & 25 ct beef. 22 years ago today our Dear Bert died on the Sunday that day too {Will's daughter Albert King died June 5, 1887 age 10 buried Drummond Hill cemetery Niagara Falls}
Sun 6 Grand day wind north Mr Russ to Wills for dinner every one in church but Arthur from the other house he has gone to Welland with Tom Marguerite wore her new shoes Paul bought Teu. Mon 7 Dull looks like rain wind east & cool Will & Arthur at their potato ground. Tue 8 Paul to McCredies he says he felt sick all day & Will had the cow up there he got here. I churned yesterday today I cleaned the hen house out shed the hens in the picket part while I cleaned it 21 wheelbarrows full I put it on the ground by the barn. I was tired at night.
Wed 9. Marjorie went to Mrs McCredies to help her get ready for the bee. Mrs Riexingers for tea I made a sponge cake for supper I had every thing to do after she went away Hattie came over & stayed all night for Paul stayed away he was to Tufts for two days or parts of two I churned & worked the butter
Thur 10 raining such a nice gentle shower doing so much good Arthur came over & said let the hens out - been shut up over two weeks. I partly mended Pauls drawers they are a job no mistake cleared up in the afternoon Arthur away on the cart about the road grater. Will big cow & the black one each had a calf Paul came home at night
Friday 11 I baked bread, washed the line full of clothes boiled for they were white clothes. Marjories bees swarmed. I was just about overheated Mrs McCredies bee Hattie went up. Marjorie brought word that Ida was done with her suffering died last night. Paul went to Chippewa in the afternoon with Tom McCredies man drawing cement. Will harrowed rolled the potato patch & the oats he was rolling all day. Kate came after Marguerite to stay with her mother tomorrow Guelf excursion. Will, Arthur & Paul are going

Hattie took Marjorie to Chippewa to go to Clifton took 7 3/4 butter @ 18 & one doz eggs @ 18. butter came 139/1.57 eggs coal oil 18, matches 6, salts 10. yeast 5. coffee 13. baking powder 10. pumkin 10 ginger 5 candy 5 tea 30 sugar 25, cheese 15 I churned for our selves made 8 pumkin pies black currant tarts 6 of them & small sponge cake. washed a lot of calicoes & finished Pauls drawers. we got 25 cts of meat only 2 3/4 the youngsters stayed along Hattie stayed with her mother they got home from Guelf about 12
Sun 13 Cloudy looks like rain & did sprinkle Will & Arthur have gone to Idas funeral, its sad to think she had left her children, but God knows best, what is good for each & everyone of us perhaps they will bring them all up stricter than she would. I cannot realize she is gone. Hattie went to the brick Paul went with her. drove Frank. Hattie came over & stayed all night.
Mon 14. looked all day for Marjorie but she did not come. they finished the corn ground then went out at the potato patch got it done & furrowed out & ploughed the Clay patch behind the bees & planted it & cut a lot of wood & mowed the grass & burnt out the brush. I churned 4 lbs 3 oz, I put a band inside of Pauls {coat?} collar
Teu 15 Marjorie came home from Clifton early in the morning Paul went to Camp Marjorie went to Chippewa after her things took Gordon with her. 4 lb 2 oz butter 75, coffee for Jane 25 corn 10 rice 5 Tapioca 5 - 45 - 30 on Pauls overalls.
Wed 16 Marjorie went to McCredies I churned, & put the screen in the pantry window had an awful time getting the old screens off & the dead vines pulled off my window. I papered that place in the kitchen where it had not been on this spring. Arthur planted the potatoes here by the house. Mrs. Riexinger came down at night with Marguerites white dress she gave her for staying with her
Thur 17. I put the wood that Paul cut in the big box washed all day two flannel sheets & my underwear that has been laying around so long. it rained such a beautiful rain I let the hens out but had to run after them a good deal they never went in out of the rain I carried a lot of water so much running away I got wet through twice did all my work in the rain & when I got everything done, it cleared up Hattie over all night. cleared up cold wind changed to north
Friday 18 I washed all the fornoon after dinner I churned Will & Arthur drawing manure I swept the two rooms & cleaned all the boards Hattie & her mother went after Eva & the little girls the little girls were over just as we were going to set down to supper. we had pan cakes. Hattie & Arthur, Eva & the children & our two here in the evening. I had to set sponge & wash the churn.
Sat. 19. I baked bread. 3 custard pies. an apple sauce cake & a pie black currant tarts. had the milking & separating to do. likely turkeys comeing out. I blacked the stove washed the windows cleaned the boards again starched a lot of clothes & ironed some of them. Eva & the girls went after Marjorie to McCredies, brought home some mor{e} lard Gordon hurt his hand
Sun 20 Mr Russ preached his farewell sermon here. Marjorie did not go to church she had a time dressing Gordons hand Eva & the girls were here last night to supper. Arthur took Eva at night to Chippewa church. In the afternoon she walked with Hattie to the brick Frances did not go she came over here with Mary Reavley after dinner Hattie & the girls over in the evening.
Mon. 21. I got the turkey pen fixed & the rueky & her youngones in it. 14 out of 21 eggs then Marjories bees swarmed again & the {patent?} & hive swarmed & went back to the hive I churned at least everyone had a hand in it. Frances & Florence had to work at the butter. Marguerite & Gordon at school Marjorie had a big washing for Marguerite to go to her exam

Wed 23. I churned. Marjorie baked bread, after dinner she went to Riexingers Bee. they raised their barn looked like a storm & did thunder some but the wind changed & got colder & the storm went over & at night cold enough for frost. I fixed a place for Marjories bees & put them in their place
Thur 24. Hattie {Auger?} & Roy & Will Dells wife to Wills for dinner & Hattie, Roy & Emily are comeing here in the afternoon Marjories cleared up swept both rooms & I baked an apple sauce cak{e} & cookies with jelly on & a two custard pies Hattie was over for tea. she drove them home
Friday 25. Marjorie went to McCredies for the day. I churned & ironed a lot of starched things Pauls pink shirt among them Marguerite came home after school from Clifton. I made another applesause cake to bake while I was ironing Marjorie came home at night
Sat 26. Marjorie went to Clifton took 10 lb butter @ 22 = 220 & 5 doz eggs @ 22. brought home the boxes for bee hives Jane could not pay so she bought the groceries the youngsters went to Montague party. Will & Lilly went to Drummondville, they had the road scraper on the road yesterday the big swam that came out & went back to the patent hive came out & I worked pretty nearly all day with it & one over in Will orchard a good thing I had so much of my work done yesterday Paul came home from camp had his dinner a{t} Walmsleys. I made 8 custard pies jelly tarts
Sun 27. a nice breeze from the east. all at once it was gone but sprung up at night again the childrens father arrived when it was the hottest. he brought 9 dollars. Paul took him as far as Persons at night. it was quite cool then Arthur took Hattie to the brick. Wills bees swarmed & ours that swarmed yesterday came out of the hive & went over there & went in the hive with theirs Hattie over in the evening & gave the children their sunday school lesson
Mon 28. Marjorie washed her thirty waists mostly things in starch Marguerite did not go to school she guarded the cows. I churned an awful hot day. Teu 29. beautiful cool day I dressed the rooster for dinner made two tins of biscuits & 2 custard pies the teacher & Hattie for dinner they finished the manure here. I packed a little crock of butter the crock that weighs 3 lbs for Aden there was butter enough for 1.32 she got it all in sugar 81 ½ doz eggs @ 20 pr doz on bread.
Wed 30 Hattie & her father went to Hartleys after strawberries got us a half crate they 1.15 pr crate & Paul got us one they got two Arthur & Paul gone with a load of hay to Aden Wells. I had a swarm of bees out of the hive that Don gave & towards night, a little swarm came & Paul hived it after he home. I churned & Jimmie Ross called Arthur & Paul to a strawberry festival a{t} Clarksons last nigh{t} one of the beautifulest nights you would wish to see so cool & bright we had all berries we wanted on cream for supper I stayed up untill 20 mins to 12 & finished cleaning them I weighed them & put the sugar on them after they were washed Th

Thur 1. I was so sick when I got up I went back to bed after I fed the turkey & let her loose & feed the hens & pigs Mrs Riexinger called. after dinner canned up most of the berries I could not finish my back was so bad. Marjorie ironing right in the hot kitchen got cool at night. Hattie & Arthur gone to the Leays Mrs. Dickson & Kate & Mary called Paul cutting weeds at the back road in our fields
Fri 2. Paul cutting weeds on their fields. the bees that hung out on the outside of the hive swarmed & I bothered all day the afternoon with them. Paul knocked them down at noon in the morning canned the rest of the berries. never got to churning untill five Oclock Marjorie up to see Kay stayed to tea befor we went to bed a thunder storm came up so quick only one bad clap just a little shower got cooler after it was over. The bees stayed out all night with the carpet turned over them
Sat 3 Arthur took Paul to Welland to get his pay & take his clothes back. The swarm of bees I had such a time with yesterday went away. I made ginger cookies & two custard pies, swept both rooms & cleaned the oil cloth & boards out-side put my Gladiolious out Marjorie swept the front room cleaned the north window & put her sash curtain on her & Marguerite went to Chippewa we had 6 lbs less 1 oz @ 18 - 107. 23 cts mistake 130 tea 30, cheese 17 Bread 80. sugar 25 for Maggie McKee 25 on Marguerites valise. bought two boxes of corn salve with 20 cts of the quarter she got for sugar
Sun 4. The new minister preached went to Wills for dinner The youngsters went to Sunday School Gordon rode back with Hattie & Arthur. Lizzie & her friend & Mary called in the evening very cool. turkey out tonight
Mon 5 cool morning, really cold I went down opposite the school-house to look for the turkeys. Marjorie went down to help the youngsters get the cows in Buyers lot & just as I got the separater washed & equivalent made the turkeys came out of the meadow saved one the work of going after them. Then the bees came out of the end patent give. just as I was getting ready to hive them a swarm came out of Marjories red hive. & I knocked them down twice its in a bad place right over the hive it came out, it looks as if its going back where it came from I got my hived after knocking them down a dozen times. I had to churn Arthur cutting hay opposite the school-house Paul gone to work for John Sibbett for 20 dollars pr month
Teu 6 The bees I hived yesterday out of my hive went away & swarmed in the hedge on Wills place. I worked pretty nearly all afternoon then went away a small swarm about a large ones hand came out of the red hive yesterday made a little honey when I lifted it I saw them they drawed a load of hay in our barn & one in theirs from opposite the school
Wed 7 Just as I got ready to churn a swarm came out of the old patent hive they drawed another load of hay for us & Arthur mowed it away then they drawed one for them I went up worked steady 2 hour packing it away I was about overheated then Marjorie churned while I was on the mow. Dollie went horseraking & they drawed in from their own place
Thur 8 terrible hot in the sun still for all a cool wind from the north they drawed in a fag left part her & took the

Marjorie went to Riexingers got a loaf of bread she & the children drawed a lot of water & watered every thing & filled up everything Maud came along & took one of the little kitts that was left along the road by Buyers. she brought the mail the children helped her carry her thing part-way. Kay has a nurse now her rheumatism is so bad. Hattie & Arthur have gone to the brick church.
Friday 9. Marjorie went to Clifton I churned, made two custard pies, little sponge cajes & jelly tarts. swept & cleaned the dining room & dusted I swept & cleaned the kitchen & all the boards swept the yard. Marjorie took 3 doz eggs @ 24 & 6 lbs 10 oz butter she sold 3 lb to Mrs Day for 25 pr lb.10 cts cornmeal vacline 5 starch 10 cheese, can corn 10. 6 loaves bread 30 Will sick all day at night, he & Lilly went down to the doctor terrible hot. got cool at night. The youngsters guarded the cows morning & night.
Sat. 10. Frank Riexinger helping Arthur draw in the fornoon Will rakeing on their place easier then the snow Hattie went in the snow instead. high southwest wind feels like a storm. Jennie & I went to Riexingers in the after noon Fannie & Ethel Miller came on the late train Arthur went after them in the night there was a thunderstorm Arthur cut hay opposite the house in the afternoon
Sun 11. looks like rain Paul came just as they we were getting dinner & he went befor supper Jane went over there to supper the girls drove up to the brick in democrat Marguerite went with them. Tom brought Ethel home Arthur walked up & rode back with the girls. Arthur took Jane & Hattie to Chippewa church Tom took Ethel & Fannie started to rain by night so gentle & nice got cold
Mon 12. I churned & worked the butter for Jane. 4 1/4 for the print we got from her. I picked a little kettle of cherries & the children picked the rest, & I pitted them enough to fill 5 qts - 2 imperial at that. Marjorie took Jane to the station & it was threatening a storm I got the work done and milked milk separated it came so suddently lightning was just dreadful so close it seemed to fill the house I was so upset about her not being home the children went up to open the door gate & when she got home Fannie came over & unhitched helped to unharness & stayed untill it was over Will was down to see the doctor & got as far as Hewsons Arthur finished cutting opposite the house & Will raked what was cut sat. I made a johny cake for dinner.
Teu 13. they cultivated their potatoes Marjorie washed I hoed our potatoes towards night. I canned the cherries there was 5 jars.
Wed 14 Marjorie finished her washing. I churned & carried a pail of water from the school house. Kate Riexinger called she wanted salt. Fannie rakeing they drawed two loads here & put on the stack & took over home
Thur 15 Marjorie, the children & Fannie went after cherries Marjorie got 20 qts & Fannie 17. Arthur mowing. I made a johny cake for supper. had fried ham. I could not make up my mind to kill a hen. thundered toward Niagara I was affraid there would be a storm befor they got home I washed a lot of my clothes that were laying around high wind about whipped the clothes to peices we pitted the cherries befor we went to bed.
Friday 16 I canned up part of the cherries in the after noon as I got a kettle ready to can I had to go & mow away it threatened a storm just as I got out of the mow
& went to take the butter over for I churned in the morning a swam hung right in a good place on the apple tree by the gate. In the fornoon Arthur cultivated our potatoes just as I got the cherries ready again had to go in the mow again did not put the whole load on a little on the stack Hattie helped Fannie was rakeing untill the storm came up a dreadful storm struck the tree down the road & one at Sebbets. hailed over the river & here in places. The tree that was struck was not far from where Fannie unhitched. Marjorie went to Chippewa in the Sat 17, beautiful after the rain, morning took 4 1/4 butter they made it 4. 2 oz @ 20 - 83. 1 fox & 3. @ 22. 28 salt 5. B soda 5 Tanglefoot 5. S. 18. meeting here Paul got here in time for church they all went from here & the other house the minister went to the Riexingers for dinner Marguerite went to the brick rode both ways & Dollie walked up & Fannie walked back she was over in the evening. Marjorie & Fannie & the youngsters went after cherries again. got 15 qts. she went on to the shreded wheat works & I00 lbs. & 100 of flour at Dewitts @ $3.15 Will killed the blind hen & I got it ready for their dinner she weighed 4 lbs. I had to churn, Then cut the wheat in the field then went over on the hill Fannie here to tea, we got our cherries all pitted Mrs Riexinger here in the afternoon awhile
Teu 20 Mrs Rogers & Mrs French here for dinner I made a cherry pie & jelly tarts for dinner. Hattie invited them for tea so I got the cherries canned 11 qts & a pie. Ethel & George Montague for tea, they cut the wheat down the road. Fannie shucking up, the children walked to Wallaces to tell why we did not go after currants
Wed 21. sprinkled rain in the morning they cut their wheat up on the back road. grocers Picnic Marjorie & {Reta?} went after currants got 9 qts 45 cts I churned & cooked the veal I bought yesterday for 15 cooked the last of our ham sat I done up 4 qts of the currants
Thur 22. done up the rest of the currants 13 qts. lb pr lb they cultivated their corn Marjorie working on Reets white dress. I put a bed with raddish & letuce. out of 13 eggs chicks killed 3 of them rest of the eggs broke. a good thing the old turkey is in the barn first befor we went to bed poured
Friday 23 I churned in the fornoon after dinner I washed a blanket & quilt & some other things terrible hot. Lucy sick or that way Marjorie working on her dress yet at night the wind turned and blew a small gale & poured rain the clothes whipped for all they were worth Arthur & his father to town got his new suit.
Sat. 24 I carried over a lot of fruit made a custard pie black currant tarts & white cookies swept the dining room & ironed Marj swept the front room worked on her dress. Will killed a hen & I cleaned her. she baked bread yesterday & buns rained tonight again
Sun 25. Quarterly meeting at Port the girls went Arthur went to Millers with Tom. Kate & Mary here for tea. Paul came home from Sebbets. took Lucy to Dells at night. I canned up the black currants & mended his overalls. Mrs Riexinger called wanted to send some letters to the office but too late

Friday 30. I started the green sunbound Marj washed Arthur & Paul drawed the marsh grass after Arthur got home with the cow from McCredie Reet picking berries she made 24 cts picked 12 baskets, Mary guarded the cows Paul went over the river. started late in the afternoon

Reet & Gordon guarded the cows. I had to carry water from the creek to put them from boiling

I milked & separated the milk cleaned all the boards when she was drawing the water. Mon 9 Harmers Picnic. all from the other house but Lill went Ethel Miller came the night befor. The children took some flowers to Kay then went to Montagues. Paul went to Sebbets but came back for it sprinkled rain & his man did not go Paul went to Chippewa & over the river got 3 pairs of socks a shirt stud buttons sleeveholders spirel - level. kitt cobblers tools 2 lbs bologna got cooler. I picked a mess of beans at the other house Marguerite went to the other house untill they came home & stayed all night. I mended Pauls black shirt untill after 10. Ethel Miller came back & stayed all night. I churned we eat up the last churning but a little left. Marjorie working on her drawers.

Thur 12 I started to fix the pig pen had to clean it out put a floor in it Hattie worked on Marjories waist had to stop on account of the humble bees so I papered the Parliament House
Friday 13 Marguerite & Gordon both went to pick berries got what they picked they got enough for tea I worked worked some more on the pig pen after I washed in the fornoon. (14 They started & cut some oats here by the house.
Sat. 14. took our little stone crock to Aden Dells the jar he kept so long. took 3 doz eggs for Mrs Taylor 25 cts & Maggie McKeowans $1.00 got 2 sacks shred, & 50 lbs bran I swept both rooms & cleaned them made 3 custard pies black currant tarts & little sponge cakes & ironed & churned. Paul came back from McCredies Cook was here to see him I dressed the big coomb hen that layed eggs with no shell Fanny went to Millers with Tom it sprinkled rain
Sun 15 they all went to church. The minister to Wills rained in the night got a nice barrel of water on the east side of the house & a tub dull Marjorie washed & I churned
Mon 16 Marjorie washed & I churned the new school teacher started Fannie came home
Teu 17 Marjorie starching & washing some more I made tarts to take up to Kay. after dinner she & Harrie went to Chippewa. she had 5 lb 1 oz butter @ 24 - 122 - 1 doz eggs 23 came to 145. the whole coal oil 18, sugar 25, tea 15. bread 4 loaves 24 soap 5 salt 5 tanglefoot 5 worm medicine 25, vaseline 5 cheese 17. Paul helping at the other house to start oats
Wed 18 I went up after dinner to see Kay Fannie & I stayed to tea. I churned in the fornoon. Mrs. Riexinger Mrs Flor. called
Thur 19 Sunday school Picnic. Fannie, Hattie & the children went by Frazer Arthur put some oats out here then Will finished then Arthur & Paul went to the Picnic by Chippewa Marjorie guarded the cows after she mixed the bread. I put it in the tins & baked it while she was guarding the cows at night. I wached the hens off the oats
Friday 20 I finished the pig pen at least Paul nailed down the second floor after I sawed them then Arthur came over & helped put them in the pen. Marjorie getting ready to start to Pelham Paul said Mrs. Riex & Flor was comeing so I made peach tarts a sponge cak{e} & a custard pie & they never intended to come it seems Marjorie gave up going untill morning then Hattie says she will drive her down (Sat 21 she took 3 doz eggs & going to get the groceries with her money. got meat & liver. cheese ½ tea sugar Paul went down to see about his watch he sent up a lb bologna I made 2 custard pies & a ginger cake & churned & cleaned the room. Kate & the Flor kids in the evening. Marj was going to stay at Jennies untill monday (Allens wife had a baby yesterday)
Sun 22 Flors went home. The youngsters went to Sunday with the girls They sang a peice they all walked. Will & Lill went to Reavleys Arthur kept house. Paul brought the cows & milked the youngsters got home so late they guarded the cows for a little while after they were milked.
Mon 23. they raked the oats. Tom Reavley after Paul he went after dinner they drawed the oats & made the stack. I churned Hattie stayed tonight.
Teu 24 Fannie tonight Will & Hattie went to Drummonville took 4 lb 15 oz butter ½ doz eggs 11 cts butter 1.13 2 loaves bread 12 sack flour 85 lb lard 17 tangle foot 5 butter paper 4. 50 lbs middling 63 he had the last of his oats. The threshing machine to come tonight Mary Riexinger over after a spool of thread
wed 25 Hattie tonight when they went to thresh they found the engine leaking had to go to Drum. to get it fixed lost all the fornoon started after dinner finished over there & the oats here. I cleaned the oat bin out fixed the floor yesterday
Thur 29 Arthur & Hattie threshed out the wheat hay. I churned. Fannie went to the League entertainment tonight. it was grand & the night was grand. I washed out the white clothes boiled them put them to soak over night, carried most of the water from the creek to wash set sponge tonight Fanny stayed tonight
Friday 27. I mixed the bread carried more water to wash to not to take the rain water put the white clothes out & washed the colored clothes & starched a lot of things besides doing the work. milking & separating the milk it just about kills one when they are tired. Gordon went after the rooster at Wallaces Marguerite guarded the cows while he went 40 cts for the Rooster.
Sat. 28 I swept the house all over cleaned back tooms swept the gard{en} cleaned all the boards, made 3 pies ginger cake & ginger cookies dressed the hen that hung do{w?}n with fat & ironed a lot after dark. The youngsters went to Montagues after pears. Fannie here. a thunder storm about 12 & such a beautiful rain I dusted the front room & dining room after the children went to bed beautiful after rain Fannie did not come untill late.
Sun 29 Fannie & her mother went to Chippewa took 5 lb butter they made it 5 & 1 oz 25 pr lb - 127. 1½ doz eggs @ 24 1.63 - $1.00 gran sugar 35 brown sugar soap 5 nails 4 yeast 5 sum 20. so beautiful after the rain, turns cool in the afternoon the children went to church. The minister to Will Dells. Hattie & Arthur went to the brick Fannie went to Argyly & Paul came from Reavleys stayed to dinner went right after dinner
Mon 30 cool wind rather cold from the north east After dinner I started to Wallaces after Plums paid 50 for 12 qts & 40 cts for the rooster. They brought me home befor I started I found poor old blue hen dead & time some others mopeing around with dark heads I caught the worst & put them by them selves I have nothing to give them
Teu 31 Will went to Port to Mill took 2 bushels for us 3 of the 5 hens dead & another under the wood pile that makes {# cut off} I sent Marguerite early in the morning to Chippewa after medicine castor oil eclectric oil. Poultry food with the 25 I borrrowed from Paul. I got a bottle turpentine I churned just keeps me busy with the sick hens doseing & so many drooping & the turkey three of them getting doctored.
