Widowed at 34, Carrie and her sons live with her parents in Bloomfield. She and her mother run a busy household.  Her father, previously the cheesemaker, now runs a grist mill. In 1904 they all move to a farm southeast of the village.  Carrie’s entries are intermittent as she chronicles the local social scene of visits, lectures, “magic lantern” slide shows, and trips to Picton and Napanee.  Glimpses of Carrie’s earlier life can be found in the diaries of Vincent and Deborah Bowerman, her grandparents.
