Gertrude’s large collection of diaries captures her life and household, first as a daughter in her parental home and then as a wife and mother, after her marriage in 1922.  An accomplished farm woman, she produces and markets chickens, apples, and butter. She is active in community life and respected for her role in Brown’s Corner United Church and the Buttonville Women’s Institute, where she teaches other rural women the skills of good farming and homemaking.
