Jock spends much of his time on the farm sawing wood, washing sheep, and threshing during harvest season. While he writes about his ten horses, in particular “Fly Annie” and “Tot,” in some detail, his passion for farming is not always evident in his diaries. Instead, Jock enjoys documenting his visits to the Stratford fair and various social bees. Jock’s diaries also reveal elements of sorrow, as he laments how his daughter’s burial and his mother’s death occurred on the same day (August 24, 1914).
