Biography:
As a former lieutenant colonel in the militia (1832-discharge) who fought in the Rebellions and justice of the peace (1845-1864), John is a prominent member of Ernestown Township. His farm business and team of seasonal workers is considered one of the finest in the Midland district. While his diaries dwell mostly on social events and the weather, he offers a detailed account of his seasonal farm practices.
