Kate lives in the village of Chesley and is married to a lawyer. The first diary is about her wedding and honeymoon. When she returns to diary writing, she is a mature woman with an active social life. Kate notes the books she reads. She writes about the library board, the horticultural society, a trip to Muskoka, films, radio shows, village life, and her daughter. Meanwhile, she is writing articles for the Chesley Enterprise and several plays.
