Minnie lives with her widowed father on the Baker homestead founded by her pioneering grandfather in 1847. She is a teacher and attends conferences for rural teachers. She is also very active in her church and makes time for friends, courting Cyril, and preparing for marriage. Cyril and Minnie marry the day before he volunteers for military duty under the Military Service Act of 1917. They then establish their home on his family’s property nearby and Minnie takes up the duties of a “farmer’s wife.” Soon she is “sewing for baby.”
