Olive’s charming diary tells of her life as the oldest child on her parents’ farm. She is scouring the stove, sewing a wrapper, quilting, and rocking her baby twin sisters. In her spare time, she plays the piano, works on her scrapbook, and likes to nibble on popcorn.  Sometimes in the evening the family gathers to read, talk, and sing songs. With only girls in the family (her brother Joseph died in 1895), hired men help her father with the heavy farm work, and Olive marries one, George Hawley, in 1904.
