Robert farms ten acres and is a framer by trade. In the winter he gets cedar posts out of the swamp in preparation for the barn raising season. He replaces beams in barns, jacks up sheds and raises summer kitchens.  He hires labourers and negotiates with customers and in the meantime dreams of framing and finishing a big barn. Framers’ skills are in high demand in an agricultural community.
