Joe Dillons Diary 1907

Tue Jan 1st

I got out some tracings Mary & I went for drive in the afternoon Will Denny & wife of {Jas?} Foley spent eve with us spent 10 cts gave Mary ${four digit number?} 5 cents for writing {paid?}

Wed 2nd I finished my tracings sent them with order to Jas Hutcheom got a R.D. order from Wilbert {last name?} cashed $4 got ready left after three for Lansdown came on out to Mr Hunts Al Williamson was there I came back to Mr {name?} stayed alnight was a cold cloudy day. 50 cents {illegible}

Thu 3rd I came back to Hunts had dinner sold $185 job came out to Mr Mc Donalds had {tea?} sold Mrs {name?} an $85 job it rained alday have tonight $12.05 cts

Fri 4th It is raining this morning I came out to Mr Franklins on to Mallorytown called at Mat Kellys on to Mr {name?} had dinner called at Mrs {Dickies?} on to {Lyn?} gave Mrs Mcdonald $1 this morn did not rain much turned cold in the afternoon stayed alnight at {Geo Bryons?}

5th I gave Maurie 5 cts paid {Stack?} for horse feed 50 cents came out to Mr Dickys sold a $200 job on to Mr {name?} sold a $235 job left after five for town got home about nine there was a lot of bare ground this side of Lansdown was a nice day

6th We went to {English?} church in morn & {place?} in the eve I lost

I borrowed 10 cts from Mr Gamble for church was a nice day like {illegible}

7th Got a {illegible} Card 1 ct sent it to Wilbert Dorman went to voted got {illegible} drove They do team out to Suleys Bay called on Mr Rainy had tea at med calf got home about eight {scratched out text} Mrs {name?} made her second payment $1600 snowed & rained was a chilly day.

8th I paid my sent $7 have left $19.29 cts to day noon & said paid sent for shop & Barn to Ms {name?} Johnson for 1906 $12 gave May 25cts was cloud & rained some

9th Drove {illegible} a while on {cutter?} event to Lansdown after dinner on train 90cts for return ticket got back before four hitched on buggy came out to Mr Hertons stopted at Jas. Patinee over night it was a cold day with some snow

10th I came on out to Joan Hargermans sold Mrs Collin a $80 job came on to Mallory town had dinner of {hay?}. for horse 55cts called on Mr J Gibson back to {name?} then to {name?} stayed over night {illegible} 4 cts was a cold day & snowed some

11th Called at {name?} then to Lansdown & got home by noon 5cts for {maps wheat?} 15cts James Brown paid in full $225 home to day about four o clock $8.10 cts spent eve at {illegible} Galloways was a nice day

12th It is storming I got a tooth filled at Dr Mabees gave him 50 cts spent 20 cts gave Sid Mullens $2 to pay my Dues for one quarter in the {illegible} they are $150 he will owe me 50 cts 10 cts for {illegible} $100 for balance on {name?} 25 cts for a game of {lost hair?} gave Mary 25 cts snowed & blowed all the fournoon have tonight $380

13th We went to church in morn & down to Georges in the afternoon with the cutter stayed alnight Mary gave me $3.75 to day was a cold day

14th We started out to Jims about seven called at {illegible} went across the lake it hailed & rained all morning got to Jims about noon helped him in woods in after noon {noon written crammed in space above after}

15th Mother Mary & I started out called at Uncle Johns he paid me balance on taxes $1.10 I owed him 5 cts Mary stopped at {initials?} Mother & I came on to Sarahs had dinner I came on to {name?} called on Jas Murphy then on to {Newbour?} was a cold windy day have {illegible} {$860 written crammed above text}

16th I went up called on Mrs {Monohon?} back to {Newbour?} on out to Mr {Shaws?} had dinner on to Albert Giles then out to Derbyshires back to Stanley Giles sold a Pattamore a $10 stone had tea at S {Giles?} sold a $10 job on out to Mr {Gambler?} left {hores?} & went down Bobs stayed alnight Mary was there I setteled with Preston this morn $125 it was a very cold day

17th It started to storm after nine & stormed most all day I went to Morton sold {Chas Taler?} a $95 job on to Mc Machens

had dinner on to Lynhurst went out to Jon Gibsons sold a $25 job back to Andys had tea he gave me $1 for to give Mr Linklater to get him a book went up to Mr {Gamble?} stayed alnight Jack Dillon gave me $6 to pay his dues in the {illegible} was a cold day

18th Mary & I started for Athens went out to Alf {name?} I got a hair cut & shave 25 cts spent 20 cta we went to the Shamrock show we stay at Alf alnight spent $1.50 at show for medicen snowed some today

19th It rained all day I stayed at house untill eve we all went to the show 30 cts admission it turned warm tonight to the snow almost all went off we stayed at Alfs tonight

20th Is very windy. We left for home about nine got to Jims before dinner gave Alf kids 10 cts stayed at Jims alnight

21st We drove cutter up to {Moultens?} had dinner got {Bols?} buggy came in home got in before three Will Tompson paid me in full for Dawson headstone $30 got a letter from Robert Earl with a {acronym?} order for $90 pay in full for mon was a cold day

22nd Went up ordered a bag of {illegible} $1.10 have left at ten oclock today $40.90 I got my teeth finished to day my bill was $6.50 I paid $6 of this to day & there was 50 cts {illegible} before I got a {acronym?} order for $5 cost 3 cts sent it to R Earl wrote to John Leeder Maurie {last name?} it was a cold day

23rd I went to the office got R Earls order cashed $90 went over got a robe from W J Gibson for George $6 went down called on Miss Taylor in fornoon ordered some stock from Jas Hutcher got horse sharpened 50 cts got my laundry 22 cts two lemons 5 cts gave Mary $3 went to {lodge name?} Lodge Sid Mullens paid me 50 cts he owed me I paid J Dillons dues $6 & got a degree in the encampment $4 to {illegible} one all though & to get two degrees {illegible} was a cold day

24th I started for {Sunburey?} with buggy called at K Lukers on across the {eannall?} had dinner at Joe Hichcocks gave his kid 25 cts on to John Balls then to Albert Webbs stayed alnight was a cold day

25th Mr Webb sent his boy for his Motherinlaw Mrs Smith she ordered two Mon at $70 each & Mr Webb ordered a $200 job I stayed for dinner I came back by Woodburn went up to Lackies & I got home about seven was a cold day

26th Got horse {shoes?} 50 cts stayed around horse in fornoon went to Lloyds sale in afternoon bought a set of harness $17.25 {name?} and I got ready & left for Clayton about four oclock followed a man over I gave him 50 cts when we got over for showing the road went on out to Tom Dillons got there a little after seven

27th we stayed at Toms untill after three & got home about half pass seven was a stormy day & quite cold

28th I gave Mr Linklater the $1 that Andy gave me for the book paid my {illegible} rent to first of July 75 cts 11 cts for cough drops 25 cts for {Broms?} tablets $1 for Rum have left to day $79. 15 cts for

for Souvenir Cards 10 cts to Jas Bishop for carting gave Mary 25 cts was a nice day

29th I got up early started for Young Mills spent 5 cts had dinner at M S Averys 35 cts went on out to Norman {last name?} & back home about seven 25 cts for oysters snowed a little this eve {eve written crammed above this}

30th J Leeder started work to day I got a stone & {illegible} paid $9 for the two a ton of coal from Roach $6.50 went to the {lodge name?} Lodge got two Degrees in the encampment 20 cts for {illegible} for stone was a cold day {a cold day written crammed above was}

31 I wrote to S B Norton 22 Co Jas Hutcheon ordered stock from them all got 22 yds of ticking for aprons 50 cts 10 cts for {illegible} Annie {Moulten?} was here & stayed alnight I went to Lodge paid my dues for Feb & March $2.20 it snowed some to day

Feb 1th I fixed some tooth chisels 35 cts for files paid a Mr Johnson $7 for Mr Kenny I dont think I ow this much went for a drive in the eve have left to day $5000 was a nice day.

2nd I bought three of potatoes from Will Tye at 90 cts per bag got 25 cts from Mary to pay him I wrote to Mary & William Lagden it was a nice day but rained tonight

3rd We stayed around the house all day Frank Denniser came up in the afternoon was a very cold windy day

4th I bought a ticket from Carrie Clow 25 cts I gave Mary $5 we called on John Gibsons this eve have left tonight $44.80 was a cold day.

5th I paid 3 cts for stamps left 20 cts at house for collection money I went to the Hockey Match 15 cts Mary went to the contest {scratched out text} with Mrs {name?} Mr Fisher was along & I ordered some Marble was a cold blustery day

6th I got my accident policy $5.19 70lbs of hay from Geo Bryn $10 drove out to New Cemetery 10 cts for weighing hores she weighed 10.70 with harness I wrote to Mrs W {Kern?} & Mrs C M Lawson have left tonight $229.32 was a cold day

7th I paid my stock instuence insurance to Mr Geo Peck $7 it was only $6.30 he owes me 70 cts. Mary and I went to Eng Church tea meating admission $1 paid 6 cts for stamps six cards to Rose & Annie Webb put away $2 for church pay was a nice day

8th I paid my rent $7 to the first of Feb Mr Peck gave 60 cts on the 70 cts he ows me Jim was in with a load of Lumber Mary & I drove around the town to day with Jim Bishops cutter gave Willie Bishop 10 cts to get shavings to bed horse went to show have left tonight have left $12.81 cts was a nice day

9th I have J Leeder $2 Mrs {name?} paid payment $16 on place I got some Spirits of Meter for father 10 Minnie gave me $3

10th went out to Ellisvill tonight

10th We stayed at Jims untill after dinner then went over to church we drove Jims cutter had tea at R Gambles & went up to Mr J Gambles & stayed alnight was a windy day

11th I went out to {Elgin?} on to Phillisvill had dinner at Mr Reuben Haskins gave his little boy 15 cts came back called at Sarrahs she gave me a roll of butter then on to Fred Booth had tea up to Mr Gambles & Mary & I came down home

Jim & Patience were at {Lappens?} to a party I spent 25 cts to day Mother went out to Marys on saturday was a very cold day

12th Jim and I went across the lake to Berrys got back for dinner Minnie & I came in home in the afternoon 10 cts for bread spent 25 cts gave Minnie $2 have left tonight $26.66

13th I went to Lansdown called on Mrs Wright came back to Lansdown feed horse at at hotell 25 cts had dinner at Georges went out to Oscar Landons & then home R Moulten & Wife were here I spent 10 cts was a very windy day

14th R Moulten & Wife went out to Kingston this morn on the train I went down to the Bank drew out $80 went & paid $102.15 duty Jim was in today Minnie & I went to J Booths funeral I have Joe Mills $2 that I put away last week for church & $2 more with it Rob & Annie came back tonight have $2 11 was a cloudy day with some snow

15th J Bishop & I hauled three loads of granite Jack L & Jimmie one load in afternoon Rob & Annie went home Mr & Mrs A Scott were here for dinner I went down to Rockport in a load to the races this afternoon got home about six was a windy stormy day

16th I gave Rob Kearnaham $1 for trip to Rockport got a bottle of medicine from Dr Bird for father 50 cts three books for Andy 75 cts Jim & Patience. Andy & Easter were here for dinner they went over to T Dillons in the afternoon Jim took my horse I gave Leeder $10 Mary & I got ready started for Ellisvill with Jims horse & cutter we got out about six gave J Leeder 25 cts DJ Walker renewed his note for four months he paid the Interest 30 cts was a nice day

17th We stayed with father to day read Abe Lincolns book was a bright day but cold & windy

18th Stayed around the house read the same book was a nice day

19th I went up to Franks after dinner he Phill & I went over to Andys to see about the horse I was trying to get from Berry we went across the lake they all got home from Toms about six Jim & Patience Mary & I went down to E Hennys to meating this eve was a blustery day

20th Mary came up to Franks & I came on to Lyndhers Lynhudrst Mrs Rooney paid me in full for lettering her fathers mon $2.50 I went on out to Geo Sheffields had dinner on W H Earls then back to Sarahs had tea & stayed alnight have left $42.36 was a nice day

21st Took Billys horse drove out to Mr Cannons back to Elgin seen Mrs J K called on W H Sly back to Billys got my horse came out to Mr Gambles had dinner

& on down to Jims & I came in home it stormed & blowed some today

22nd I paid Jas Bishop $1.50 for carting he done last week we went to R Runnings childs funeral I helped Jack polish some was a cold day

23rd I polished some Jim was in with lumber I gave J Leeder $10 Geo & Ida came up this eve I gave 55 cts for oysters & crackers 10 cts for bread 20 cts for coal {sive?} 5 cts for milk was a nice day

24th I stormed a little after dinner Geo & wife went home after tea Mary & I went to church put away 10 cts for collection money was a cold day

25th I helped Jack polish today wrote to R F Marble to Jas Hutcheon have left tonight $29.81 was a nice day

26th I got a {acronym?} order for $3.59 cts cost 3 cts 2 cts for a stamp sent it to the R F Marble Co & a letter to J Hutcheon got a hitcher 40 cts a shirt 50 cts we drove some in the eve was a nice day

27th Sent a letter to Al Sly & to Jim got out some tracings in the eve was a nice day but cold

28th Spent 20 cts gave 5 cts for pencil 25 cts for a book of stamps sent a card to S B Norton a letter to E R Kendrick have left tonight $24.77 cts was cold today

March 1th I worked in shop was a nice day

2nd Mary and I came out to Jims in the eve Mary was there was a nice day

3rd We went over to Rob Gambles for dinner up to Rosses for tea Mary stayed & I came down to Jims & went to meating in the factory was a nice day

4th I came down across Gananoque lake to Will Sliters had dinner went on down near Lyn Stayed at Stewart Booths alnight

5th Came up to Mr {Purvis?} then out near Sand Bay gave Mrs Booth 50 cts for lodging got home to town about five

6th I sold Archie Mc Calphin my horse for $135 I am to take a load of hay at $9 a ton he is to take her friday I gave J Leeder 50 cts had my dinner at the Hotel 25 cts we went to show 25 cts

7th Jim & Frank were in & had dinner with me Jim got the meat for dinner 25 cts I got 5 cts worth of {illegible} 20 cts for {illegible} 25 cts for oysters Jack & I had thoes this eve left tonight $22.77 cts

8th Mr Gamble brought Mary home in the forenoon Mc Calphin came in for my horse gave me $25 & a note for $100 for one year at 6% he is to bring me $10 worth of hay at $9 per ton some time in April I gave him back a $1 to get a blanket spent 40 cts lent {bracket?} Mr Gamble 50 cts he left one {nell?} & went home

home with Jack {Nibblock?} Hillsons dilivery was today was a nice day

9th I {pol?} some we got ready left for R Moultens about seven I gave J Leeder $15.25 cts I spent 20 cts we drove buggy was a nice day

10th I stayed at Moultens untill after tea Bob & Eideth were up there then I went out to Sarahs with buggy Mary stayed at Moultens was a nice day

11th I took Billys cutter went out to Newbour back to {Forfar?} had dinner in Newboro 50 cts had tea in Elgin 50 cts came to Billys stayed alnight was a nice day

12th I came out to Mr Gambles had dinner Ross & I went out to Mr Giles place to trade horses with a man named Mr Seaward did not trade it rained & snowed a little we got back to Mr Gambles about nine I stayed alnight

13th I came to Hinlays on to the {Olivet?} Joe Beavens ordered a $15 job I went down to look at a horse to Geo Brackens & on down to Jims had dinner Jim & I went out to Jackies bought a horse at $90 came back to Jims I gave him $2 for his bother $ a blanket he is to take Mr Gambles horse home I came up to Moultens got Minnie we got in home about half pass eleven I borrowed $70 from {Won Leadbeater?} was a nice day

14th Andy was in for dinner I got $100 out of the Bank sent $70 out with him Mr Leadbeater {Gonyou?} paid payment $16 I paid my rent $7.8 $1.20 cts for cut of Bran got horse shoe called on Mrs Spence gave Mary $2 left 15 cts in the house it was cold with some snow & sleet

15th Was a chilly day with a few squalls of snow & sleet have left tonight $43.07 cts

16th Rob & Eideth came in this afternoon I did not work any in the afternoon it rained some in the night

17th We went for walk in afternoon Frank Dennison was to call on us R & E {Robert & Eideth?} went home after tea we went out to Jims after them was a nice day

18th Mary & I came inhome in the morning Mary went down to Mrs Spences & she came back up to the shop with her & I bargained for her house & stove for $2100 I am to have pocession the first of May we are to have an agreement drew up tomorrow we spent the eve with her was a nice day

19th Mrs Spence & I got Mr Jackson to draw up the agreement about the place I gave her $100 on it Sophia Somerville was in for dinner we spent eve at W Dennys was a wet day I gave Will Bishop 10 cts

20th I went down to Lansdown out to {Won?} Grahams on to warburton I had dinner at E Earls called at H Hortons then on in home got in after six was a windy day have left tonight $42.87 cts

21th I went out to Mr Geo Mc Cormacks near s and hill sold Mr Lackie a $120 job got out there about half pass one & back to town at five was a nice day

22nd I worked in the shop Dr Walker gave my horse a dose of medicine spent 10 cts gave MAry $2 was a nice day

23rd George came up in the eve stayed alnight I wrote to Mr lawson it rained some tonight

24th I rained alday George went home about four we went to church in the eve

25th I washed my buggy went down drew $50 out of Bank paid $30.35 cts duty on marble & $29.02 cts on freight Jim Bishop hauled up two gags 25 cts for collar have left tonight $31.15 cts was a lovely day

26th J Bishop hauled up the rest of the marble three load I sent Jas Hucheon & order for the Lackie mon wrote Billy Lagden in the eve was a nice day

27th I paid Mr Landon 50 cts for harness repairs J Bishop $1.50 cts for carting 10 cts for a plug of tobacco for Jack 25 cts to Mr {empty space} for a load of shavings borrowed it from Mr Kenny

28th Dan Mc Cornell & wife were in brought me father is dead I got a rig from L & K went to Lansdown for Geo cloths I got a pair of boots & rubbers $5.25 cts & 50 cts for getting a pair {tapped?} bargined with Mr Wilson for a horse for jim at $90 I got a rig from L & K to go out home I got a gal {gallon} syrup from Joe Singelton $1 & 25 cts for a plaster for my back Dan & Flora had tea with us then we started out home it was eleven oclock before we got there the roads were very bad

29th Fathers funeral sermon was at Seelys Bay conducted by Bev Fitzgerall he was put in the vault it was a cloudy day but turned out quite nice we were all home but Sarah. Aunt Ann & Aunt Eliza stayed at the house I took Aunt Ann home Jacob paid $1.50 he owed me it rained some in the eve

30th George Andy Jim and I looked over fathers will & papers George and Andy are the executers Minnie & I came in home today I gave Mrs Moulten $1.50 comming in I gave her 10 cts to much we got in a little before six the roads were very bad I paid 25 cts for oysters 29 cts for soda biscuts & 5 cts for a loaf of bread was a nice day

31th We went to church in morning F Dennison came up in the afternoon & stayed for tea & spent eve was a nice day

April 1st I have this morn $21.51 cts I gave D Lloyd $4 on rig I had last week I owe him 50 cts yet Geo is to $1.50 cts of this I gave J Leeder $15 Mr Kenny started work to day he worked about 8 hours I stayed in the house this eve was a cold day

2nd I wrote a letter to Ben Dillon sending him a piece to gave published on fathers death sent Joe Singleton a card paid R Kearnanhan in full for rig 50 cts drove my horse a short while Mr W {scratched out text?} Moris came & had tea with us & stayed alnight was a cold day

3rd Wrote a letter to tom Dillon was a cold day

4th Sent Alex Fraser & Co a card & Fred Taber got 10 cts werth of {illegible} acid drove out to cemetery have left tonight $1.91 has been a cool day

5th Jim came in I gave him 51 cts for three doz of eggs gave Minnie $1 sent Photo to Jas Hucheon 2 cts was a cold day & snowed some

6th Jim traded Bill horse with {Watt?} for a new buggy I gave $15 I am to give that much between mine & his I gave it to him today I drew $25 out of the Bank to day gave Joe Singelton $4 for 4 gal of syrup 10 cts for bread Mr Gamble & his Aunt came in to day. {Jennie?} & Dolly Page were here for dinner Jim bought a brown mare from H Wilson $85 he & I setteled up to day he ows me $22.40 cts he ows me $32 besides the note I alowed him $1 for apples & $4.65 for beef $2.94 for cheese & $2 that he said I borrowed from Patience leaves a {bal?} $22.40 cts due me besides the note I gave Mary $1 Jack did not work to day I have left tonight $5.28 cts was a nice day

7th The {lodge name?} turned out to H C Taylors funeral Mr Gamble left for home about four at rained & snowed alnight I went to church in the eve

8th It rained & snowed alday I got a bag of Bran $1.20 went to {lodge name?} lodge in the eve

9th E Gonyou gave me $1 for two hundred of hay got some Books 30 cts Mr Amo & I measured the wal in the cellar 3300 hunched he is to allow me $6.50 per ton to apply on rent I wrote some have left tonight $4.78 was a cold day

10th Mr Amo came down this morning & gave me $1.40 cts this was what he owed me on 3300 {cwt?} of coal after taking one month & ten days rent the coal was $6.50 & the rent was $7 J Bishop hauled down four load of furniture to the house after tea & I helped him it was a cold day

11th I went down drew out $175 out of the Bank got a draft for &117 for V M Co cost 25 cts went down paid $30.28 cts duty & freight on two pieces of Granite from Alex Fraser & Co sent a letter to V M Co & one to Geo sent him my note for $100 for 3 months at 6% sent a card to {Ben?} Cannon J Bishop & I finished moving after dinner two load I gave him $2 I bargained with L & K for a rig from this eve untill sunday for $4.50 cts or $1.50 a day gave J Leeder $10 Mr Kenny $5 Mary & I came out to Mr Gambles & Mrs Gamble came with us was a nice day but the roads were dreadful I had to get out & walk some of the way

12th Mary & I came down to Morton Mary stopped at Will Somervills I went & seen Mrs {Manuel?} took her up to Morton Cemetry she is sadisfied to take a job like Hoods job if Mr Geo Sheffield is suited & will go half a piece

we went on to John Persins sold a $95 job on to Sarahs for dinner Mary stayed & I went on out to Cannons & back to Sarahs & had tea we we came out to Mr Gambles & stayed alnight was a cold day

13 I snowed some in the morn I went to Lyndhurst on out to Mrs D Landons sold a $75 job on to Mr G Sheffields had dinner sold a $127 came back to Mr Gambles I had his horse I got mine & Mary & I went up above the Bay to Scotts back to R Moultens to his fathers wake I wrote B M Cannon a letter from Lyndhurst was cold day

14th We came down to Jims before breakfast & stayed untill after dinner we started about two for town got in about six we stopped at Will Dennys tonight was a cold day

15th Mr Kenny did not work to day he was working on some stone I paid him for in the winter I gave him $10 L & K $4.50 cts Jas Bishop & I got up a load from station

16th I cleaned up the front yard morning set up some jobs in it Gonyous paid their fifth payment $16 I gave Mary $5 have left to day $13.06 gave 10 cts for a shave spent 10 cts Geo sent me a draft for $205 he owed me $112 of this I sent him my note for the other $100 a week ago we stayed at Billys & played nations was a wet day

17th I got this draft cashed got one for Jas Hutcheon for $100 cost 19 cts one for Alex Frasher for $79.72 cts cost 25 cts it snowed some last night $ to day

18th I gave 7 cts for {text erased} spent 10 cts we left Dennys after tea came down to our own house I paid Billy in full $3 for our board wrote to Jas Hucheon Alex Frazer & Co & {illegible} ordered some bases 25 cts to Jas Bishop for carting 5 cts for collar button have left tonight $44.52 cts was a stormy day with flurries of snow

19th I left after dinner called on Jas R on out to {Escott?} called on Mr Taylor had tea came back to W m Moultens stayed alnight was a chilly day with some snow

20th I came to Lansdown sold Ms Bowen a $35 job came home about half pass ten I ordered some window shades in the afternooon Will Denny was down awhile George was here for tea was a nice day but cold

21th We did not get up until after ten just had two meals went for a drive in the afternoon had out first bath in our house was a very windy day

10th Mrs Church came ordered a $95 job Mrs Sarah Fraser of Kingston came with her and ordered a $32 job she paid me $5 on it Mr. E.E. Harrison ordered a lamb job in shop $15. Jim came in this eve was a nice day

11th Jim took Willoughby two base and to Olive it rained all the forenoon and part of after-noon Mildred got our dinner Jim did not leave until after dinner Mary took bob horse went out home this morn her dad came in with this eve Jim had tea at Moultons got back about hald past eight I sold bob horse to Morris Delong he is to take him in morn and settle then for him I gave Mr. Kenny $2.00 I owed him $1 for chores the other was borrowed money.

20th have this morn 30.21 cts Jimmy Bishop & I hauled up a can load of {illegible} we had R.J. Wilson's waggon after the first load Andy helpde us load at car I gave Jack S. $10 Mr. Kenny $5.00 Jim Bishop $4.00 for today It sprinkled rain several times to-day

21st Geo. came back last night he took my horse & rig & took Patience home Will Denny & wife came down in afternoon stayed for tea & spent eve Geo. came back this eve was a nice day

I sent a card to Albert Webb Mrs L. Beaubien Lyn Station {illegible} 25 cts for a book of stamps 10 cts for cards 35 cts express for MRs Moulten Andy came in this fore-noon I went out home after tea stayed over night was a wet fore-noon

22nd Jim got in about noon Jimmy Bishop & I took a job down to Ebeneger erected it I did this for a Woodstock firm the total of bill is $8.20 we did not go down untill the after-noon put in a cement foundation I told Jim I would give him $3.00 for his work to-day it was about eight when we got to town Jim & Andy loaded Dickey job Jim started this after-noon stayed over night at W{illegible} Moultens Andy at Geo. I borrowed $5.00 from Geo was a warm day.

23rd I went down on the eight-twenty to Mallorytown Andy met me there we all got to Young Mills about half past eleven borrowed a wagon from Mr. Braummel Jim & Andy went on to Lyn had dinner got Dicke & Puruis bases I gave Andy $11 the freight was $10.28 cts. I had dinner at Mrs Dickeys They got back about five we all had tea at Mrs Dickeys got job up about eight Jim & I came on to Mallorytown Jim went on out to John Mc Donald I waited for the midnight it was two o'clock when I got to town was a nice day but rained a shower about noon gave Brummel 25 cts. I got the stray piece of granite up from station gave a young lad 5 cts for helping me was a nice day wrote to Mrs C.T. Mourse worked a while this eve.

26th Have this morning $2.59 cts 69 cts for material to make marble cement paid Eddie Scott 25 cts I owed him and got 15 cts worth of varnish from him gave him 25 cts more on this he owes me 10 cts change 10 cts for paint oil S. Johnson came along about a quarter to eleven we loaded Beaubien job on his wagon we started for Howe Island after dinner went up to river it was to rough to cross on ferry we got back to town about a quarter to three Jack L. O settled up to this found due him $52 I gave Mary 5 cts worked this eve gave E. Landon $1.50 for harness repairs

27th I took $2 out of Geo. pocket gave Mary $1

left about three O'clock for Seelys Bay got two shoes on horse 50 cts went on up to canal crossed on ferry over to Mrs Smith she agreed to give me $10 more on monument ordered about a month ago. came back to Bay and down to Mrs. A Mustards fed my horse came on to Andy's he was not at home on to Jas Gamble got there about hald past nine sent a card to Mrs L. Beaubien to-day was a windy day

28th Went down to Andy's we took Aunt Ann's horse home this morn had dinner at Andy's we left about to O'clock for town stoped at Jims about an hour got in at hald past six Andy paid me in full for Dickey job a check for $175 and $25 in cash was a nice day {day written in space above nice}

29 I wrote to {name?} Sappan got some medicins from Dr. Bird for Mary 75 cts went down to bank paid $175 on a $300 note gave my note for the balance $125 and paid the Int. on it 75 cts for one month got Mrs Dickeys cehck cashed cost 20 cts it was for $175 drawed out $125 got a sterling draft for $100 fot Jas Hutcheon have $9.50 left in bank went down to Dr. Rogers paid my sum Life Assurance $30.60 cts Mr. D Matthews gave me an order for $185 job to be erected in New cemetry is to be of N.B. Grey Granite with the aception of bottom base it is to be of Stanstead Grey I am to put in a concrete foundation not less than six feet deep the size and style of monument to be the same as a Reid job in Calaragua cemetry Morris Delong brought Bob horse back I gave him his note he is to give me $5. I got ready left a few minutes after six for Albert Webb's got there after nine it rained some on my way out 10 cts for {carbolic?} oil 25 cts for something else ordered Matthews job from M.B. & Bo.

30 Mrs Webbs folks riged up a bunch for me I came out to cemetry cut {illegible} & lettered four posts we got them set in about seven I came on to Ida Hall sold a M. Richard a $40 job came on out to W{Illegible} Webb sold them an $18 job Mr. Webb paid me in full for his job $100 and for {crossed out text with Smiths written above it} Gordon job $70 stayed alnight at W{illegible} Webb

31 Came to town this morn 22 cts for a rope paid Jas. Bishop in full $3. Andy & I left in after-noon for Union cemetry we straightened up some monuments I rode out to rail road

with Andy walked up the track to Lansdowne it rained mostly all the time I was walking up 45 cts fare up on the train sent Mrs E.D. Patterson a card got a draft for Jas. Hutcheon for $100 I sent it and the one I got monday Mary & I drove a while in eve

Aug. 1st I wrote {Millie Boutts?} & Co. & S.B. Norton for a price on four granite I gave Mary $1. & Geo $5.00 that I owed him $1 for a bag of oats was a nice day went for drive in eve.

2nd Have this morn $77.18 cts spent 10 cts gave Jack L. $10. filled some letter this eve on Monroe job sent a card to Mrs E.D. Patterson & Mrs. B.Y Monroe ordered some stock from a Mr. U dall {illegible} for U.M. Bo.

3rd I got up early loaded Beaubien job on Sam Johnson waggon we left about six for Island she did not us we got back to town about two I gave Sam $1.50 owe him $1.50 yet this pays for this trip and the day we started before I spent 30 cts to-day sold a pig to Mr. Mc Barney for $3.50 he did not pay me he said for me to deliver the pig monday I gave Mr. Kenny $30 Gonyou's paid there ninth payment $16. It was 50 cts on Ferry 50 cts to-day Mary & Geo. took my horse and rig went out home it was quite windy to-day {to-day written in space above windy}

4th I went to church this morn Mary & Geo. got back about nine O'clock was a nice cool day

5th I got ten sacks of cement not pd. took pig up to Mc Barney got $3.50 got a spade 70 cts 38 cts for a tape R.J Wilson 50 cts for a load of stone got in June J. Bishop Mr. Kenny & I went out in after-noon to cemetry worked at Matthews foundation he said if I done a good job we would give me $10 more than the contracts called for he gave me $5 on contract Andy got back to Town about four I finished paying S Johnson in full $1.50 got some {poor?} flour for pig at Mc Brooms $1.45 was a nice day.

6th We loaded Monroe job on Jim's waggon {"Bishop" written above} he left for Mallorytown about half past seven I went on the eight twenty train 70 cts for fare had on the eight twenty train 70 cts for fare had dinner at a Mr. Dunham's 25 cts. we got through about half past four we had tea at Ms Monroe she paid me in full for her share on monument $47 it was $47.50 I threw of the 50 cts. Mrs E.D. Patterson owes me $47.50 I got two feeds of oats 20 cts, it misted rain some in fore-noon got a pair of overall we got home about ten

7th I went down got two more sacks of cement J. Bishop took another load of spalls out we worked at Matthews foundation untill noon came home for dinner I got two six sacks of cement Andy went with J. Bishop & I they got another load of gravel and Jimmy came to town must of got in about three O'clock Andy & I finished foundation but got soaking wet it rained terrible hard we had one sack of cement left it took 18 sacks for foundation E. Landon gave me back 25 cts on harness repairs and harnes.

8th I marked Mrs. on Lappan job Jim & Frank were in for dinner J. Bishop hauled Bryon job down to Halstead bay I drove Geo Horse down we got through about six Geo Bryan paid me in full $80. Mrs Ellis sent in $10 with Jim on monument Mary & I drove out to W{illegible} Thompson got Ins. {inscription?} for monument in cemetry we drove Bob horse was a nice day

9th Andy Jack & I went out to cemetry I marked on Thompson Breakenridge ins. got a bag of oats from J. Y. Nuttall $1 a cut of shorts $1.25 a cut of rushed corn $1.40 a bag of potatoes $1.50 got a P.O. money orders for $34.43 cts and one for L.L. bo. for $55.98 they cost 40 cts 14 cts for stamps 25 cts for writing pad 20 cts for envelopes wrote to {name?} & Co. Emma Pournall was a nice day.

10th mailed letters this morn to Geo Taylor M.P B.M. {illegible} W.Y. Leggett S.B. Norton L.L. Co. Mrs. A. L. Campbell & Mrs. E.D. Patterson cards to Allen Lappan Geo Lappan forfar station {illegible} settled up with Mr. Kenny to this eve found he had earned $180.80 and I owed him $1.40 cts for peace work maker a total of $182.20 cts. I gave him $40 to-day this settles with him in full untill this eve he worked about two his this morn I got Ms Monroe check cashed $47 Andy & Jack worked in cemetry 25 cts for stamps thi $1 for sugar I made a box this eve & worked untill after eleven in shop.

11 We got ready went out to R. Moultens {Wendy?} took Geo. horse and Jims buggy went home we left Moultons after tea went over to Andy's got the horse and rig came over to mothers stayed alnight I gave {Wendy?} $15 to-day was a very warm day.

12 We got to town about hald past ten I went over to a {illegible} of ground corn $1.40 a lb of

15 cts Ruford came up with Geo. he took Geo & over down to Annstrong's pasture I got Lappan job ready Mrs Beaubien called on me this eve gave me $40 on mon. I agreed to throw of $5 on the other $40 leaves $35 this is to be paid before the new years I gave Jim $15 this noon with Audry 25 cts I owed him 20 cts for paid Reuford 6 cts 5 cts for a loaf of bread Mary 20 cts. was a nice day.

13 Took Sappan job down had dinner at Mr {Chad?} Sappan got job up they paid me in full $25 I came out to {Wahsington?} called on Mrs John Earl sold a $130 job had tea came by Sand Bay home got home about half past eight was a very windy day.

14 I gave Jack S $25 & $1 for a bag of oats. $1.15 for a sack of grain 45 cts for salt I gave {illegible} sheet $20.50 f0r 24 20 lbs of hay Jack did not work to day I drove down to Noah Peck this eve sald a $120 job

15 I gave Jas Bishop $10 pay in full 25 cts for a broom 15 cts for an ax handle I finished cleaning shop dove some publishing we loaded me {illegible} job this eve on J. Bishop was a nice day

16 J Bishop & I left about half past five for for Lyndhurst had dinner at hotel I paid our bill $1 spent 30 cts. got through about five {down?} Mr Bonnell gave me a check for $58.62 cts and $1.38 in cash makes a total of $60 leaves a balance of 25 due it rained a little this after noon and this eve we had tea at Jim's got to town about {illegible} bought in a little wood from Jim's

Bo cost 3 cts 1 cts for postcards J Bishop came over in eve we loaded Jaben job on his wagon Harrison, Gile, & {illegible} pbell on mine I got a bottle of medicine for Mary 50 cts from Dr. Bind 25 cts for trimming for horse {illegible} was a nice day

22 Jim Bishop left about a quarter tonight I left about an hour later we had dinner at R. Matthews got to Morton about two O'click Fred did not have the foundation in we onloaded it Jim started back about three I broke two whiffles thee today got two for B Willie 50 cts one was for R Mont too I broke his I stayed in motors {illegible} after six at the picnic 10 cts for handkers cheif 25 cts for oats came on out to {illegible} was a nice day

23rd came on to Elgin outloaded my wagon got a buggy from vat drove out to W.J. Seggette back to Vats for dinner eneeted the three jobs Harrisons is $23 Gile 12 & Campbell $7.00 got paid for {illegible} & then got called on Ms De Mr Chie had tea at Pets gave him $1 came on out to Mr G stayed over night I agreed to clean & {illegible} in a slab in sept for a Mr sharland was a nice day and i am to get a set of boots ready for spring at $8 repairs on s;ab in to be $1.25 was a nice day

24th came to Jows this noon Mrs Moulton gave me a bag of apples I got to in about eleven got Mr Bonnell check cahed $58.62 cost 25 cts and Mr Watts check for a lettering {illegible} job $4.50 gave Jack L $50 Mr Kenny $2 spent 65 cts for fruit for our dinner to {illegible} I paid Mrs Moulton $2.10 on some eggs I bought in gave her 6 cts yet I brought in some more today got $1.80 for 10 day 3 cts for gas {illegible} was a nice day with a shower of rain in eve

August 25th Mary & I got ready went out to south lake R. Moulton & wife & Ross & wife were there we stayed for dinner and lia came home in eve I gave Mrs Moulton $1.81 cts for the eggs I sold for her yesterday was a very cloudy day.

26 marked {illegible} on Mr Neil job I worked around the shop 75 cts to Dr. Bird for medicine for Mary 2 cts to a {llid?} was a nice day.

27 I got $1.00 worth of lumber from M.& W. & a piece of an old smoke stack from Jas. {Seale?} 50 cts 5 {number}" tile from Bennett and 13ft of galvanized pipe Mr. Kenny & I finished my sewer drain all but some filling in rained a shower but was a nice day.

28 I wrote cards to G. Mustard {In?} orfar Station {lig?}. 8.73. Norton ordered a roll from V Mk. Bo. 2-ox1-ox1-ox1-o Mrs E. Watts a letter a card to Jas. Purvis Joel Ms Neil and to Milue boutts & bo. ordered a set of 8" posts in Grey Granite 10 cts for V. C. Mr Kenny & I finished filling in drain took almost 3 hrs. Geo Steven was at our place for dinner tea and over night Jack did not work this after noon was a nice day.

29 have this morn $12.60 cts Mrs Moulton came in this fore noon Mr Stevens was here for dinner Mrs Moulton came in this fore noon Mr Stevens was here for dinner Mrs Moulton Mary & I went to show this eve cost me 5cts for gum to day was a nice day.

30 I gave Mary $1.05 cts this morn it rained some to-day. Mrs Moulton & Mary went on where Boat {mou?} in after-noon I gave Mr Kenny $5.

31st Jack S. V J went out to cemetry finished up Breakeridge and Thompson's B came to $8.50 I have received $5.00 on it g uy comes to $10 as per agreement have got move on it yet I paid the meal bill for two weeks $1.75 15cts for cheese was a nice day.

Sept 1st stayed around home alday I came out to Rob G. stayed alnight Geo did not go home this week.

2 I called at aunt Genis Jas. G D at Baraks out to R. Samartha had dinner on to Geo. Howard got his note for $75 dated July not for {illegible} at 5% on to Jas. Moultons then to Spendhurst & house it rained a lot to-dau I have alf. Jacob 10cts in Morton this morn.

2rd Mother & Jeanne to town this morn got a check from Willoughby Bros. for $75 got to town about half past ten there was a

letter from G. Mustard with a check for $57 I owe from Ms Hawkins $20 one from John Morroughan for $15 I got them all cashed $167 cost 40 cts. paid my note in bank $125 went fown paid $620 duty on marble & $6.51 freight J. Bishop hauled up one gag for me he got 50 lbs bran for me 65 cts. & 92 1/2 lbs of corn at 75 cts a {illegible}. $1.24 he took the corn back but did not give me my money back yet Mrs Gonyou made her tenth payment $16. I bought a ticket from Lucy 25 cts 10 cts for tomatoes 20 cts for shoe repairs for Mary Alex Laloue gave me 50 cts for use of waggon for the next few days It rained last night I wrote letters to to G Mustard Ms M Hawkins John Morroughan & Jas. Dillon cards to Frank {last name?} Geo. Stevens was a cloudy day.

4th 25 cts for stamps 2 cts for cards 2 cts to Willie Bishop Jas. Bishop brought up balance of marble I gave him $4.50 pay in full to date for this carting and trip to Morton Will Sherwood bought our stove $35 and paid the cash for it wrote a letter to Ms Ellis a card to Miss {Porovall?} 5 cts for carbolic oil Jas. Bishop gave me back $1.20 for the corn he took back to Mull {"was a nice day" written sideways along outside of page}

5th Sent a card to Jas. Purvis have this orn $77.15 cts. gave Mary 70 cts. paid my taxes $6.62 got 1 bu. of oats $3.10 23 cts for a parring knife Mr. Kenny $15. a bag of potatoes $1. Mrs {illegible} D. Patterson paid her share on Monroe job in full $47.50 sent a card to S.B. Norton worked a while this eve it rained a lot to day & last night

6 have this morn $128 got a letter from Mrs G. J. Lewis for $30 leves a balance due $20 worked a while to-night it rained a few showers to-day.

7 I went over to Mrs Matthews about monument she agreed to take a job one wich smaller each way on Die I wrote to M {bo & bo.?} Andy was in to-day had tea with us Andy & I went to bace ball match this after-noon I paid our way 30 cts 5 cts for peanuts 10 cts for oranges Jack did not work this after-noon

8 Mary & I took Mother home this after-noon to-day we got back about a quarter to seven was a nice day. I have this morn 152.55 cts wrote cards to {illegible} Sloan Mrs A. Y. Landon Miss. J. Y. Lewis Jim came in this fore-noon 5 cts for {illegible} 25 cts for fish bone we loaded {Purvis?} job I put the base on my waggon we came down to {illegible} Moultons had tea

Purvis got job up alright stayed alnight was a nice day but cloudy

11 I got up about five went over to cemetry put some alluminum on some letters on Sooth monument and put in footstone got through about eight Mr. purvis paid me {illegible} on monument owes me $35 yet he is to pay it sometime when I am along. They gave Jim a dog we came to Lansdowne had dinner at Geo.'s fed horses at Goodall's 70 cts we got to town about half past three I got Landon & Sloan jobs ready I lent Jim $55 to-day it rained a lot to-day

12 We loaded Landon and Sloan jobs this morn Jim left about nine I got a {illegible} of corn $1.45 a {illegible} of Bran $1.25 and a {illegible} of shorts &1.30 a basket of peaches $1.00 5 baskets of plums $4.50 two for Patience those peaches and one B of plums are for edith on B of plums for Ms Moulton I owe for Esteo Ms Moulton paid me for her plums 90 cts I gave her $1.00 for honey M. & Mrs R. Moulton were here for dinner I have to-day noon $300.08 {".05" written above ".08"} 10 cts for shave 10 cts for P. B. sent one to Joel Mc. Neil Miss Ann Dixon {name?} {illegible} Freeman gave Mr. Kenny $10 got ready left about six O'Clock for home took Ediths peaches and plums up she paid me $1.95 I owe her 5 cts change. was a cloudy day.

13 We left about seven for to erect Land & Sloan jobs Mr. {illegible} Sloan rode out with us we all has dinner {"& tea" written above "dinner"} at a Mr. Ed. White's I gave him $1.00 got through about five Mrs Landon paid me in full $75 Sloan's is not paid it is $25 came on to Lyndhurst 2 cts for a stamp and paper mailed a receipt to Ms Landon got home to mothers about half past eight Ester had left the money with mothers for her plums 90 cts. was a nice day

14 I left about seven for Seelys Bay seen Mr. Sears & Mr. Steacy called at R. Moultons got the honey & some crab apples got to town about

half past eleven I paid Geo $100 and $5 for interest on note & what he owes paid me went in the Merchants bank paid 29 cts that Mrs Ellis package of coppers lacked I am to charge it to her put $200 in Toronto bank got a P.O Money order for $29.76 for V.M. Co cost 10 cts mailed it to-day got some footstone ready have to-night $36.43 cts was a nice day.

15 I went to church in fore-noon we stayed at home alday was a nice day.

16 Jim got in about half past seven with a load of snaths he & John Wilson they both had dinner with me I loaded the marble part of Dixon job on my waggon went down with Jim loade the base of Dixon job and all of Mc Neil job he & John Wilson brought it down we got Mc Neil job it is $85 got none on it Miss Dixon did not have the stone there for foundation so I did not get it up but she paid me in full $40 I hurt my foot we got back to about seven was a nice day

17th I wrote to {illegible} Fry & Mrs {name?} E. Smith Seelys Bay went over to Mill got a {illegible} of ground corn $1.50 got my horse shod gave Jack L. 10 cts to get some pencils Mr. Kenny $1.00 Mary $5 loade Freeman & Carty jobs on Jima waggon he left about half past eight I got ready came out to Aunt Ann's stayed over night left town after five was a nice day.
