Boys took steer & Heifer to Lewis's the steer weighed 1080 lbs the Heifer 935 lbs AM they Chored PM. W quite Mild some snow from East AM heavy awhile PM

Feb 1 Boys Chored W. few in snow last night steady strong blow from north all day below Zero {torn off} & west roads blocked

Candle Mas day 2 boys shoveled snow awhile AM threshed few Peas PM the roads are not badly blocked W below Zero this morning Milder PM Cloudy nearly all day sun shone {illegible} about noon & a little towards evening

4 Boys Cut & drew Ice they have brought Blocks which will be enough I took Nancy Groves to Benj'ns this evening & Called at Br C's to see how Becca was she was taken sick yesterday with Inflammation of the Liver W. sharp but fine. Martin Burkholders were here to supper quite Mild this evening

5 Boys Chored & put saw dust back into Icehouse there was not enought to quite Cover it I went to Br C's to see how Becca is she is a little better W. quite Mild soft snow AM strong wind this evening a little Colder

12 Henry went to Markham for Dr Robinson A went to Whitevale got Horse Laddie shod & got Buggy wheel fixed AM they drew our logs in old bush for firewood PM Dr came this evening he says Susanna had Indigestion W. mild some soft snow PM thawed about as fast as it fell Henry went in Cart

Sunday 13 at home Johny Reesor's were here to dinner Benj'ns Called a while this morning they had started {torn off} Meeting at Widemans but {torn off} Banks were so deep to go {torn off} Buggy so they turned back fine AM Cloudy PM very white frost last night

15 Done nothing much W. snow from east all day Mild, getting Colder this evening

16 Boys didnt do Much W. strong wind from North all day 4 deg below Zero this Morning little above through the day

17 Boys shoveled Scarboro Townline it is full again AM threshed some Peas PM. W. 4 deg below Zero this morning Milder through the day wind from East begining to snow at Bedtime Susanna is Bed fast but she rests well but has no appetite

18 Boys threshed some Peas AM J started for Markham at near 10 AM to tell Dr to Come Susanna is not so well {torn off} took grist Chop to Mill PM W. drissly rain off & on AM not thawing much Ice is forming no rain PM looks as if it was getting Colder Dr has not Come yet, nearly 900 A & Henry Cut wood J brought home Chop PM Dr Came this morning he says Susanna is doing well W. sharp this morning Cler & milder today

21 Boys Chored J took a grist of Corn for Meal to Ceder Grove Mills & a little Wheat for Graham Flour AM W. About 10 in soft snow & sleet last night & today it Came from the East it is too heavy to drift Much quite mild Henry & Mary went to Hermans after supper they are going to Kill some hogs tomorrow

22 Henry & Mary were at Hermans Butchering J & A Chored & took some Chop to Br S's W. quite Mild a little snow

23 A & Henry Cut wood J went to Markham & to David's today then he and David went to Gowlands sale on 7th Con Susanna was on the Lounge in Kitchen all day but she was tired this evening W. fine & Mild a little snow in the air E Lewis & his man were here to dinner

Susanna is not strong yet she was on the Lounge again today I took Butter & Eggs to Davids & went to Ceder Grove PM. W. strong squaal of snow & wind this morning awhile fine & Cler today

25 A & Henry sawed wood J changed sleighs with Flavius & drew out a load of Green first Class wood A took it to McGaw in Markham J went to Haycrofts Sale in Scarboro PM Henry & Nancy went to Markham PM. I didnt feel well. W. fine Mild very good sleighing to Toronto now

26 A & Henry sawed wood AM A took good part green & part dry wood to J McGaws PM I & Henry & Johny Reesor shoveled snow & sawed some wood at Meeting house PM W. very very fine winter day

Sunday 27 all went to Meeting except Nancy & J they staid with Susanna (she is still not able to be up) remarks by C Burkholder Sermon on St Mat part of 21 C by Br C. Joseph Groves Hermans D Burkholder Saml Barkey & his sister Anne & JD's Fanny & her man Jacob Groves Jun'r (they were married last Tuesday) were here to dinner. W. a very very fine winter day

March 1 A took 56 Bus Scott Wheat to Shink Mills @ 86 cts per Bus AM brought the Bags full of Bran @ 12 Ton they Cleaned another load PM & Henry Cut some wood AM {illegible} & children were here today

3 A took 51 Bus 37 lbs Wheat AM & 45 Bus PM J Shirk & wife were here to dinner & Benj'n Dillers to supper J got Horse Laddie shod AM. W. very very fine & Cler

4 J took 38 Bus Wheat AM A & Henry cut wood J took some Bran to Flavius that he brought from Spinks for him & exchanged sleighs PM W. very very fine & Cler

5 Boys had Albert Reesor's Corn sheller & shelled Corn Davids Came Esther & Russel stayed & David went to Spink Mills for a load of Bran J went with him W,. very very fine & Cler I went to Andrew Reesor's PM

Hermans were here to dinnner Benj'ns were here awhile PM & Aunt Lissy Burkholder Called PM JH Ramers were here to Supper W. very very fine

7 J & A took grist Chop to Br S's & Cut some Basswood logs at Flavius AM they drew 8 of them to Br S's PM they didnt do much he has sore throat I & Nancy & Anne went to AB's PM didnt stay very long A was not at home W. very very fine & warm, snow going Henry drew the Cutter up to the gate & Susanna got in & he pulled it around by the driving house & she enjoyed it very much, she is getting some better

8 J & A cut & drew some Hemlock logs & brought home Chop I & Mary went to Markham AM. MN's were here to dinnner W. very fine & Mild sleighing breaking up

9 Boys drew few logs & got down sap buckets & soaked them I & Nancy went to JB's they were not at home then went to Hermans neither they or C Burkholders were at home then we went to Davids to dinner W. very mild sleighing about gone

10 Picked 10 Fowls & Killed big Pigs Cut it up for our own use & made some sausage J took Butter Eggs & the ten Fowls to Davids he took a grist of Chop to Br S's AM W. very mild & fine snow going very fast

11 A & Henry sawed wood in bush AM they & J tapped some trees about 45 Buckets mostly 2 to a tree PM sap did not run well W. slight east wind very mild, drissly rain awhile PM

12 Boys Chored AM they gathered 12 Pails sap PM J went to Ceder Grove this evening W. Cloudy mild drissly rain at times, snow going very fast

Sunday 13 I & Nancy went to Flavius W. some rain last night drissly AM blowed up from west PM Cold this evening snow going fast

14 Boys sawed wood AM gathered up limbs in bush & drew them on a pile PM I went to Ceder Grove PM W. frost last night fine & Cler today sap ran some today

15 Boys sawed wood J helped Benj'n Killy & hang up a Pig then got Horses Fred & Laddied shod AM he drew lumber PM I Boiled sap all day W. mild a strong East wind

16 I finished sap AM Nancy finished it on the stove over a gallon there was some rain water in it W. very mild & Cler pretty heavy thunder & some rain this evening I went to Johny Reesor's again today for some of their spring water for Susanna she thinks is is good for her she had a dream to that effect she is some better

17 A & Henry Cut wood J helped Benj'n Kill 2 Pigs & Flavius took one there & they Killed it too AM J & A brought about 28 Bus Western Corn from Markham station @ 434 cts PM we got it Chopped for the milk Cows Oats are worth about 36cts at present Henry took Butter & Eggs to Lewis's W. very fine & Cler roads pretty bad

18 Boys sawed wood J Chored AM he brought load pine roots from Flavius to sugar bush & brought Corn Chop home PM I boiled sap all day

21 Boys sawed wood in Flavius Bush AM they sawed aol Willows at Creek on Scarboro Townline PM Benj'n helped all day I went to Markham AM to get Medicine for Susanna W. east wind all day a little snow & drissly rain PM Cool J took Cow Lady to Lewis's arm AM @ $33.00 took 6 bags barley to Br S's PM

22 Boys chored AM Cut some of the Old Willows PM I went to Ceder Grove PM there have been a few suckers Caught a few days ago. W. drissly AM fine & warm PM

23 Boys sawed Willows I & J Put in 18 logs at SM AM I went to Johny Reesors & to Burrows PM W. Cler. Cold NW wind

24 Boys drew in 3 loads feed Corn then finished threshing Peas J drew away lumber & took Butter & Eggs to Davids PM I boiled sap W. frose hard last night fine & Cler Sap run a little PM

25 Boys drew 4 loads of Willow wood home AM split it ready for the stove & Piled it up by the Smokehouse I Boiled sap till about 2 PM the women finished it on the stove. we have 4 Imperial gallons. W. very fine & Cler heavy white frost last night

26 J went with Benj'n to Stouffville then they called at Herman's sawing Bee PM A went to Markham to tell Dr to come Susanna's ear is very sore she has to lie on her right side all the time Henry split willow A helped finish it PM I gathered 19 big buckets of sap this morning W. very fine, some sharp east wind. Dr Came this evening

28 Boys dug Post Holes awhile on Knoll north from Beech trees AM J went to Sale on old A Burkholder farm Property belonging to a Mr Hood he had a Mortgage on the farm & had to take it to save himself A went to Markham with some Boots to get Mended he went with Horse Chief in the Cart he went well he drove him out on Saturday too W. drissly part of the time all day grass beginning to grow all Wheat looks very well so far

29 Boys dug some Post holes & pulled down Board fence from NE Corner of bush to dam AM Picked up rubbish in Flavius fallow PM I Boiled Sap till about 3 PM then Nancy finished it off on stove 4 quarts W. very fine

30 A & Henry Picked rubbish J helpd Benj'n split Cedar Posts AM 3 Boys drew off rubbish PM I boiled sap till about 2 PM W. White frost last night fine & Cler today

31 A took 12 bags barly to Br S's then he & Henry drew some Willow wood home AM they drew off rubbish at Flavius's PM J took Cow Sylvia to Foreman's AM

Benj'n to SM PM I took Butter & Eggs to Lewis's David is not well & Could not go we heard this evening that Isaac Moyer is sick I went to see home stail all night he had a Paralytic Stroke this afternoon & is about helpless. W. fine & Cler, rather Cold NW wind

Good Friday 8 all went to Meeting at Hebron except J he staid with Susanna remarks & sermon on St Mark 15 C 25 V to dend of C by Br C nobody here to dinner Anne went home with Davids they were at Flavius to dinner Mary Came home she was at Davids since Tuesday

W. a very very fine & Clear day. some frost last night about 38 above Zero in the middle of the day A drew the Buggy down & up the lane with Susanna she enjoyed the ride very much

9 I & A Burned rubbish in fallow at Flavius A dug drains at Benj'ns AM they all dug PM I took 6 bags Oats to Br S's I got them Chopped PM I & Nancy went this Morning to see Isaac Moyer he is sinking slowly W. very fine & Cler I gathered 8 Buckets of Sap this evening

Easter Sunday 10 I went early this Morning to see Moyer and staid till about noon B Stovers were here to dinner I went again

after supper to Moyer's he is still getting weeker W. very very fine warm Cler dry roads very good Benj'n sowed spring wheat yesterday

Easter Monday 11 Boys thought they must work today they finished putting in tiles in sod at Benj'ns AM they sowed some Oats in NW Corner field PM Isaac Moyer Died a few Minutes after 12 last night I & NB went to Markham to order a Coffin AM I went to see Thomas Diller & Br N's Jacob to help one of our Boys & Br N's Albert to dig his Grave tomorrow W. very very fine day very little frost last night

Sunday 14 all went to Meeting at Hebron except J remarks by Br C Sermon on St Mat part of 5 C by C Burkholder Henry Barkey & wife Matty Cook Herman's & Jesse Grove A Lehman were here to dinner. W. rather Cloudy Cooler I took Matty Cook to her Br Saml Shanks this evening they live on Church street in Markham

15 had Jess Reesor with his Engine & Danl Ramer with his Clover Mill & threshed a little more than half of our Alsike we got about 15 Bus a strong East & south wind some of the hands got sick we had to send for two fresh Men at noon Thomas's man Ed Craven went Delirious but I dont think it was altogether the dust that Caused it he had a sunstroke some time ago he went to Thomas's when the threshing was over with out his supper & fell down while he was speaking to Thomas & we Carried him to his home

over by the sideroad in Br C's house (he is Married to Maggie Tweedie) & sent for Dr Bateman of Pickering he thought it was like Brain fever. W rather Cloudy a few drips of rain pretty warm when the sun was out I might as well state that the war between Spain & the States is over The States were a little too much for Spain on the Ocean They Outclassed & Outnumbered them in vessels they Beat them at the Philipines & at Santiago & became Master on the Sea but on land they had hard fighting The Spaniards ran short of Provisions at Santiago & finally surrendered

11 Boys dew some stones to build up the side of the Creek in field east of old Orchard where the water had washed the bank away then they drew in 2 loads of Oats till noon out of field behind barn J helped McCreights thresh PM A & Henry drew in rest of Oats out of that field till evening 6 big loads W. very warm, fine Breeze showers went around

12 Boys drew in Oats north of Meeting house 8 big loads I brought home Chop from Br S's this evening JD's brought Peter Roos & wife & little boy & Mrs Reynolds from Ohio a little while PM

Sunday 13 all went to Meeting at Hebron except J & A Adeline & Anne A does not feel well Anne has symptoms of Hay fever J got ready then his back ached so he was afraid he could not sit in Meeting remarks by C Gayman sermon on St Mat part of 18 C by C Burkholder (Umfrage) David Shearer from Clarence County NY A Lehman's Enos Nighswanders Danl Ramer & his son Martins & Menno Grove & Fanny Smith were here to dinner Henry Wilson & wife from Markham Village Called PM David Johansen stays all night, Flavius & family Called this evening W. very fine day

14 Boys drew in Mixed Crop 9 loads A helped Flavius AM J & Henry drew alone till noon I went visiting with Shearer first to Benj'ns then to Elizabeth Stover's then to {77.2.8}

15 A & Henry Cleaned out Creek at Benj'ns J raked stubble AM Henry helped Benj'ns thresh & A took 2 Tamarack logs (that he got of A Jackson) to W Milnes & got them sawed into stuff to fix Horse Power J finished raking stubble north of Meeting House & East of Orchard then took one of Waggon Wheels to B S S to get Tire set PM then he & A brought in rakings W. very fine & Cool

16 A went to help Herman to draw in grain Henry helped Benj'n thresh AM & draw in grain PM J Chored I have lame back yesterday PM & today AB's Lizzy & Elisabeth Stover Called PM J hitched mare Bonnie to Buggy this Morning took Susanna & Nancy down the lane & west about 20 roads & back again she stood it pretty well W. pretty warm Esther Called with Russell & he staid
