20 Another fine soft day. Occasional showers. I done a good deal of work for me

21 Roads wet. I did not go to church. I had very sore legs and back. I think I got told yesterday {illegible}

22 Very fine day. No frost in the air. Thawing. If there is no change in the weather the snow will be all gone.

28 Sunday. Fine in morning, began to rain in afternoon. I was in church. The first time for three weeks.

29 Fine day. Had Ann Hall 1/2 day, 25 cts There is no sleighing, all traffic done on wheels. Had a letter from Sandy, he says they have lovely weather in Toronto. 25

This has been a fine month, mild weather mostly all the time. Good wheeling half of the month.

February 1906

1 Thursday. Morning very fine. bright sun turned cloudy, and snow fell about 11 am then light falls of snow all afternoon. Pa bot 6 lb of pike from Bickstead 8 cts pr lb. Minnie {name} was here, came to make calls in the village 50

2 Fine bright cold day, mercury down to 10. Murdy went to the Branch to work. Oliver Montroy paid $2.52

3 Bright cold day. Lizzie called

4 I was in church. Birdie and John were down, remained to dinner.

5 Cold, a little snow, 4 lbs butter from factory.

6 Cold mercury down to 25. All through U.S. it was {berg?} cold. Colder than in Canada. Mrs. St. Thomas paid $4.00 two months rent

7 Cold and bright. Murdy by 4 loaves. I baked 5 loaves. There were two men in the village trying to get shareholders for a new Bank The Sterling $125 a share, $25 down 10 a month until paid

8 Very fine day. Boys drew some straw and hay from village farm. {symbol - for bought?} 1 gall coal oil 18 cts

9 An eclipse of the moone at 1 a.m. I could not see the moon from our bedroom window. There was a little snow today. Still buggies on the roads, as well as runners. The boys drew two loads of hay.

10 Cold and kind of stormy. Murdy went to Alexandria. The senior hockey team of Cornwall was expected today but did not come.

11 Fine bright day, not manhy in church. {Mrs or Miss?} Goven is home for a while.

February 1906

12 Monday. Fine mild day. Ann Hall 1/2 day 25 Boy dress all the hay. 25

14 Another fine day. The roads are pretty good. {name} {illegible} two loads of green wood. Alick Laroque & Louis Courier are cutting, 2 feet in length 50 cts pr cord. A pretty good {illegible} on the rink last night. Pan bread. 20

This has been a fine month just like April weather.

March 1906

3 Another fine day 9 a.m. P.M. turned to snow

4 Mild a little snow. The death of Archie McArthur at Lancaster last night announced today

5 Fine day. Mrs. Pidgeon paid two months rent on Saturday $6.00

6 Very fine day. F Robertson called, he came to the funeral of A. McArthur. Mrs Mowet, Clara Kennedy called, D.B. {name - McLesser?} and Charlotte took tea with us. And John Robertson N.B. Also Murdy by 1 lb cakes {a sort of circle drawn here}

7 I baked bread, Murdy by pan bread 20 {a sort of circle drawn at end of line next to bread} Dull looks like snow or rain, Marion sent three S. silver dessert spoons to me by Clara

8 Dull day. {name Jimie?} went to Cornwall today. Snow in afternoon. Lilly Falkner was married to a Mr. Downs' from Brandon N.W.

12 Fine day. I began the washing. Ann Hall did not come until 8 P.M. Her father was

15 Bright cold day. {name - Jimie?} was telling me that R.R. was coming to the village on Tuesday, and would likely call. So I went and gve the parlor a thorough sweeping, threw out mats & {illegible}. put pictures out every thing hurly-burley, had dinner, and was reading the paper, when who came but R.R. he was on his way from Alexandria. I bot 1 gall coal oil 20 {illegible} 25 45

16 Much milder. Mrs. J. B. had a son this A.M., 4 of the clock, Pa 1 bottle Electic The Montreal papers are beside themselves with joy at the Wanderers of Montreal beating the Capitols of Ottawa at hockey last night 9 to 1 20

18 Not many in church, Mr. Langel of Martintown preached. Goven took his place.

19 Fine day. Mrs George Fergusson (dandy) was buried here today. Murdy went to Apple Hill, began to snow about 3 P.M. O Montroy By $1.00 by his son

20 Still snowing. Sandy John McDonald will be buried this afternoon. Yesterday it was wheels today it is runners, looks like regular winter. When the funeral came it was mostly buggies and they appeared to go as well as runners

21 Fine bright day, looks like sugar weather. On Saturday the 19th the Wanderers of Montreal played the Capitals at Ottawa, The Capitals

21 took 9 games, and the Wanderers 3 games, with the 9 they had in Montreal, 12. Capitals 9 at Ottawa 1 in Montreal_10 = 2 games less than Wanderers who take the Stanely Cup which had been held at Ottawa for some years. 23 Cold high wind had O. Montroy 2 hours putting out manure, it was so cold they could not work

24 Fine bright day. Jimie had Montroy 1/2 day. Jimie found in the manure at the horse stable {illegible} John Robertson's pocketbook it was all rotten. {symbol - like % - for took or bought?} {illegible} wheat 45 cts. Murdy came last night.

25 Bright day, like sap day. Birdie and the children came to stay a few days.

27 Bright but cold The {name} not too well. Charlotte McGillis took dinner with us. Poured rain all

28 Dave McDonald, who died in Toronto, in January was buried here today. Mrs. Kennedy and Clara were in for a while in the evening.

29 May called in afternoon. Tassie at night.

30 The {name} are not very well, rain in afternoon. D. Saddlers wife was in all afternoon.

The people had to work hard to save the house. Dingwalls' little house on the other street caught fire but the roof was well watered to escape 1.20


April 1906

1. Very fine bright day. Birdie went to church. She went home in the afternoon, the children were better.

2. Agness is two years old today. Murdy went to Cornwall to attend the King's Bench. I made a small washing. Murdy came in evening, and went back, he said he forgot some papers.

2 Rain today. Jimi tapped a few trees at house

3 I sat the {leach?}.

4 Fine day, no frost last night. Murdy not back.

5 Fine day. Lizzie Brown called her baby is three weeks old, made about a cup full of syrup.

6 Murdy got home about 9.30. {symbol - like % - for took or bought?} 5 loaves 25, Salt 10 I boiled a pot of soup. 35

8 I was in church, we had a good sermon

9 DUll day, had Ann Hall 1/2 day, washing 25 25

10 {illegible} day, snow and slush. We are 44 years in the yoke

11 Kind of dull. Moun Vesuvius is in terrific eruption, on the 10th the people in all the neighbouring villages had to clear for their lives. {symbol - like % - for took or bought?} {illegible} wheat 25

12 Drizzle of rain. Kemp was here and tuned the piano.

13 Pa got a cheque from Mrs. Doest for $11.50, interest on a mortgage. Jimi was away all day looking for pike, got a fine big fellow.

14 Yesterday, Vesuvius took another direction for her lava and two towns, one N.E the other N West were pretty well demolished. Mrs {name} brought 30 lbs maple sugar 10 for us 20 for Uncle Sandy. And 5 gall of syrup for us. It bega to rain about 5. Had a letter from Marion. Sold the eggs 4 doz 5. 76 cts 1 lb tea 25 Gave two doz to a widow. Bellimus put up a little stable between the house and the village this week.

December 1914

21 Fine day. Murdy went to Cornwall, I sent to Jean two ducks all plucked.

22 Jimmie left for Toronto for Sons of Scotland meeting, About 1.30 noon there was a terrific snow storm. {symbol - like % - for took or bought?} 1 loaf 5, Miss O'Brian left 2.50 here for Ann Hall. Ann in at night and got it and a box of candy also. Gave Jimmie $5.00 to buy presents. 5

28 Ann is not coming she is washing and cleaning at the Halls. {illegible} 2 lbs steak 40 cts

29 Ann Hall 50 cts Jean sent me a dress pattern of nice black, silk and {wool?}, and a 5 lb plum pudding. A fruit cake a scotch cake and a layer cake. The Miss McGerman of Lancaster sent me on Christmas two qrt dishes of preserved citron which is the best I ever tasted.

30 Agnes came on Monday, and will stay until Sunday.
