{Typed Explanation of the cover for Swastika} (there are hand-done drawings around this of a woman's face from a side view, a woman's face front and man's face front with the words "county" "Canada" "Sun or San 6 1910" "Chippewa Ont" Above the explanation there is something hand-written that has been scratched out}

{Typed part enclosed in double-lined box} <SWASTIKA>
(SKT.WEAL-MAKING)

A fylfot or four-foot cross, a monogrammatic sign, having four branches, of which the end are bent, generally at right angles.
{symbol of a three petal leaf}
It is a sign of Benediction or of Good Luck, and in one form or another has been used as a symbol of welfare from a very early time. The sign appears in a variety of modifications, often connected in a continuous scroll, of which there are two well-defined types, forming on the one hand the European and Asiatic series, and on the other the American series. Though the Swastika has been found in Europe, Asia and America, yet it is unknown to many races. Its original place and significance are alike unknown, but it has been the object of endless speculation. Some scholars see in the Swastika a solar symbol, others a symbol of the Cross, but whatever its early significance it has in recent years largely taken the place of the horseshoe, four-leaf clover and other good-luck signs. The type of cross represented on this cover is the American, and is much used by the Indians of the south-western States, in the weaving of blankets, etc. it having probably come to them from the older civilization of Mexico.
