1907 to Feb 13, 1909

Sept 18th - I came to Phillipssville our to west Wm Freeman got him went over to Portland. I paid for four dinners and the horse feeds $2.00 ahead 30 etc got Freeman job up I came back to Steven Cartys stayed over night Jim and J. Wilson stayed at Mr. Wm Freeman's mn. Mr. Thos Carty paid me in full fun job to-day $35.00 was a nice day have tonight $101.57 cts

19th Erected Carty job Jim helped me he gave me the money for the Freeman job $85 Mr Freeman paid il to him I got job about half past ten went back up to Freemans got a harness i left there yesterday came over to Lyndlurst had dinner at R. Gates gave $1 toward the fair was on the ground a while I went out in eve for my sister Mary, Earl and Keneth were with her we got to Jims about seven Geo. & Mary came out tonight was a nice day.

20 th It rained some this fore noon I lent Jim $10 we had a early dinner and went to Fair 25 cls for a ticket for mother I got 2nd prize on Bob horse Jim drove him Thos. McConnell paid me in full today $25.00 Jim paid me back $8.00 on the $10 00 he borrowed I gave Marys boys

5 cts each we all got back to Jims about half past six had tea got back to work about eleven it turned out nice today and was a lovely moonlight night.

2021 I gave Mr Kenny $10.00 wrote a letter to V.M.Co loves of bread 10 cts a doz cookies 10 cts W Bishop 5 cts Mr E.E. Harrison paid me in full $23.00 gave Geo Gibson 10 cts I hauled up the load of granite with Bob paid $15.00 in bank and gave Jack L. $5.00 Rob & Edith came in was a nice day.

23nd I went down paid $5.00 duty on granite owe $18.00 yet and $16.45 on marble & $9.00 Freight Mr Horning & I hauled it up in five load with one horse I paid him $1.25 The total duty on granite was $70.20 cts. have to night 42 cts was a nice day

24 th Rob & Edith left about half past three was a nice day

24 th I sent cands to S.B. Norton Mrs Manuel B.M. Cannon & John Topping letters to Geo Sheffield H.B. Young Wm Fry drawed $50 out of bank went down paid balance of duty $31.65 cts Mr Ketchurn wrote me a letter to send to Brockville I got two tickets for a lecture in Eng church 25 cts each I worked for a while this eve Geo & Geo. Stevens were down for a while this eve rained hard for a while this morn was windy alday have to night $18.37 cts.

25th I wrote to Mr Stewart of Brockville and Mr Deane of Lansdowne a cand to Milne Coutts & Co. 25cls for stamps 10 cts for post cards I gave Jack L $3.00 Mr Bennetts man came down and looked over furnace Mr Bennett said it would cost about $20 to fix it as good as new I told him if it did not cost more than that to fix it as soon as he could

26th Mrs.Moulton came in this fine noon Dolly left for Lansdowne after dinner I gave Mr R.J. Johnson $5.00 on rent was a cool day

27th Mrs.Moulton Mary & I went down to Lansdowne Fair we had dinner at Geo's 50 cts to get horse on ground we got home about seven I got a shave this morn at Jonses Barber shop 10 cts did not pay it & a whip at H. Wilson's 50 cts not paid got a letter from Jas. Moulton with $5.00 in it leaves a balance due of $15 it rained some this fore noon was a cool day spent 10 cts.

28th It rained almost alday I went down to see Geo. lent him $5.00 I worked a while to-night

29th It rained alday

30th Jim came in this fore noon brought in 222 ft or 240 ft of oak lumber Jack L. & I had a settlement found due him $46 I gave him $6.00 to-day Mr Kenny & I went over his time he only worked this fore noon we loade Fry & Topping jobs got out to Moultons a little after seven It rained in fore-noon

Oct 1st We came on to Elgin had dinner I borrowed $15.00 from Pat did not settle with him this time we went on to Wm Fry's got part of foundation in I spent 20 cts in Elgin we stayed over night at Mr Fry's was a nice day.

2nd We finished up Fry job had dinner he paid me in full $150 I gave him a 60 cts level that I got at M.J.R. Darquets yesterday we came by Elgin station home got Cannons base brought it to Elgin spent 40 cts borrowed Pats buggy went to Newboro had tea and oats for horse 35 cts got back to Elgin about eight to night paid Pat the $15.00 I borrowed yesterday have to-night $152.22 cts was a nice day

3rd I paid Mr Dargavel 50 cts for the level I gave Mr Fry and 15 cts for Muriatic Acid went up to cemetry erected Topping job erected he paid me in full $4000 B. M.Cannon came down in afternoon we started his foundation got it about half done I fixed a slab for Mr De Long that Jim broke about two years

4th I called on Mrs Dr. McGhie I am to put in foundation for Dr. monument to-morrow it rained last night and some this morn Mr Cannon came down we finished his foundation

Andy & I came out to Ab. Freeman's he agreed to take a 10" Die job of Des. No. 3441 in blue marble at $40 came on to Forfar then to Myers factory to see Mr Freeman he agreed to give me his order when he got ready to get one came on to H. Graham he agreed to meet me in Brockville on Tuesday next on to Newboro had tea stayed over night.

5th I paid our bill $2.00 Andy helped me to-day at McGhie foundation to pay his share of bill we got through with McGhie foundation and cleaned a sla for a Mr Sharland and cemented it in it is $1.25 I paid Pat in full $4.25 cts spent 20 cts gave Mr Dargavel 50 cts for cement. I got there we left after five I called at R. Moultons for tea got to town about half past ten Ross & Alice came in this after noon it rained last night & this morn some

6 Ross & Alice left for home about half past three it started to rain about four & rained mostly alnight

7th I sent a cart to Milne Coutts & Co & to Mrs Manuel got a foot stone ready for Lackie job Jimmy Bishop took a load out for me this after-noon. I erected it got know pay it is $117 I went to lodge this eve paid my dues to Jan. 1st 1908 $1.5 I gave Mr Kenny $3.00 Geo. was down this eve it rained a lot this night

8th I wrote to Mrs. R. G. Taylor H.B. Young gave Willie Peck $2.00 one of this is for Jim Ins & one for Frank Tye's I gave J Bish $1.00 for his trip yesterday 1 cts for a stamp sent a design to Dr. Preston have to-day noon $170.70 cts. I gave Mary $5.00 I went to Brockville on one twenty train $1.85 for return ticket called on a Mr. D.D.Donovan & Mrs Baker came home on the six O'Clock spent 5 cts was a fine day

9th I marked Ins. on Sheffield went down paid $67.05 cts duty J. Bishop hauled up two loads for me & Jim D. on I got two bags of potatoes & one bag of apples Mary & I went to Mrs Garretts funeral this after-noon Geo. was down this eve was a nice day.

10th I wrote a letter to Mrs D.H. Manuel card to G.N. Sheffield John Perrin loaded Manuel & Perrin B.Bases on Jim's waggon I gave him $3 for the two bags of potatoes and one bag of apples & a little carting I fixed some coal bins this after noon a place in barn for pig this eve ordered six ton of coal 3 of Egg & 3 of chesnut paid for two of each at $6.50 per ton ordered it from a Mr Robinson Mrs Gonyou paid her eleventh payment $16 have to-night $90.01 cts was a very cloudy day with some rain.

11th I sent B.M.Cannon a card gave J. Bishop 75 cts for carting on Wensday $12.80 cts for cement got in summer Mr. Kenny worked about four hrs to-day I lent Geo. $20 was a cool day

12th Sent S.B.Norton $40 V.M.Co. $64.62 Jas. Hutcheon $20000 got the money out of bank for those drafts they cost 30 cts. a card to Jas. Moulton $400 to Able Street for four bags of oats 6 cts for stamps got 3 cwt of ground corn $4.50 one of this was for Mr. Kenny 50 lbs of shorts 70 cts. 20 cts for a sack of bad potatoes makes a total of $2.40 I am to charge to Mr. Kenny I got a cwt of bran $1.25 half a bu. of wheat 50 cts two bags of potatoes 30 cts total $5.05 gave Jack L. $1500 Mr K. worked about 5 hrs. to day 5 cts for camforated oil have to-night $29.60 was showery alday

13th Mary & I went for drive in after-noon was cold with a few sprinkles of rain I went to church in eve

14th I got Young job ready to go out Jack lettered seven footstones last week & this I gave Seales Bros $5.00 on what I owe them went down to station paid $3.55 Duty and 93 cts freight on marble 25 cts for cuttle fish bone 30 cts for japan Jim got in a little after four he hauled a load up from station for me we loaded Young & Taylor jobs Jim & went to show Jim paid my way 25 cts was a nice day

15 I got up about half past three we left for Union cemetry about six took our dinner with us 5 cts for a loaf of bread Mrs Taylor paid me in full $10 Mr. Young gave me $50 on his owes me $52 yet we had tea with him came to Lansdowne this eve stayed at Geo's to-night I fixed a slab for Ed Earl to-day was a nice day.

16th Settled with goodall for horses $1.25 came on to Ebenezer erected Dixon job this was paid for about a month ago got to town about noon $2.00 to John McNeil for 2 bags of oats loaded Manuel & Perrin jobs on Jims waggon he left a little after four stayed at R. Moultons over night Jack gave me $100 that Mr. Lackie left on monument there is a balance of $1700 I worked untill after nine getting ready to come in morn was a nice day.

17th I left a little after six came out erected Perrin job in St. John's got $5000 on it there is $48 due yet we had dinner at Rob. Gambles went on to Morton erected Manuel & Sheffield job Jim went home I came up to Mr. Jas. G. had tea left my horse there went in to Aunt Ann's stayed alnight was a nice day

18th I went down to Morton finished M. & S. job erected Taber job Charley paid me $50 by check owes me $45 yet Mrs Manuel paid me her share

on monument in full $67.00 G.N. Sheffield owes me $62.50 for his share I had dinner at Aunt Ann's she gave me a bag of apples I came out to St. Johns finished Perrin job & cemented two markers in one for Flood & one for Willie Johnson's mother 10 cts to Willie Scott for cement came to Moultons for tea Mildred came in with me was after ten when we got in was a nice day

18th Jack L. gave $50 out of the $52 that Mr. H.B. Young left with him for me I am to charge him with the other two I wrote a letter to H.A. Stewart for Geo. got Tabers check cashed cost 15 cts it was for $50 got a draft for Jas. Hutcheon $250 put $120 in the bank paid H. Wilson & Son 50 cts I owed them & Wm Jones 10 cts I owed him 25 cts for grapes 70 cts for ginger & mustard Geo gave me 5 cts to mail a letter I gave Mary $5.00 was a cool day

20th We took Mildred home stayed for dinner gave Mrs Moulton 50 cts for a doz. of eggs and some save she got for Mary owe her some yet on salve got home after six was a cold day

21st Went down paid $22.58 cts freight on Matthews job gave Wes Potter 75 cts for hauling it up I wrote to Jas. Hutcheon & Joe Singleton was a cold day.

22nd Mr Kenny worked about 8 or 9 hrs to da I gave him $5.00 got a rule 10cts spent 10 cts have to-night $17.37 was a nice day.

23rd I worked on Smith cap Rob Gamble was in to-day I got a plug of tobacco for Jack 10 cts was a cold day.

24th Got a cwt of corn $1.50 a cwt of Bran $1.25 & 5 cts for whitening wrote to Geo. Churchill this eve was a nice day but cold.

25th 10 cts for carbolic Acid Oil gave Jack L. 50 cts have to-night $14.27 cts worked on Smith cap was a nice Day

26th Went down paid $1.80 duty on Smith Die & $1.86 freight hauled it up myself I gave Jack L. $300 a lb of meat 15 cts two caps $1.10 I wrote to Mrs E. Smith & Joe Bevens 6 cts for stamp a kid 5 cts 10 cts for shave was a nice day.

27th It rained a little mostly alday

28th I sent cards to A. Webb Wm Webb & Wm Rickard got three sacks of cement $1.98 I got a piano box from Chas. McNeil it is valued at $1.00 I gave him a {illegible} slab I fixed some time ago for it Bob horse ran from house to shop this morn with waggon gave an old man 5 cts got a letter from Wm. Sloan this morn with a P.O.

Nov 30th Jim bought a cow from Wm Morris Jr. Wm told him to pay me and for me to give him credit for it on what he owes me. for $25.00 Geo. brought Geo. horse up this morn Jim came in this eve we went to show I paid our way 25 cts each was a cloudy day with some rain Jim gave me $100 on what Frank owes me for Ins.

29th got a pane of glass 14 X 28 and a chalk line 5 lbs of white lead 38 cts had a Mr. Harrison from about nine O'Clock helping me gave him $1.00 had Forest Seale this after-noon gave him 50 cts paid Edith for three pair of chickens $1.50 & 5 cts I owed her Frank Effie & Patience were all in for dinner I gave Jim $1.00 for wine got $2. from Mar gave $1 for medicine for her 5 cts for a loaf of bread we erected Matthews job to-day have left to-night 18 cts Jim drove Bob horse out to Featherson's to-night was a cold windy day.

30th We loaded Cannon cap & Die on Jims waggon & base on mine left after dinner stayed at Jas. G. to-night 10 cts for envelopes wrote to Mrs Matthews I left about four stayed at R. Moultons Jim paid 50 cts for shoeing on my horse was a nice day.

31st We got to Elgin about ten got job up before noon Jim went home right after dinner I borrowed $4.00 from him I fnished my job borrowed Pats buggy drove out to Portland seen

Mrs Donovan & Dan is about a monument for David Murphy those choosed a Design No. I seen Mr Homer Graham one of the executors said he would be satisfied with it if Mr. D. D Donovan in Brockville is the price to be $150 I am to write him had tea at Mrs Grahams Donovan's & fed horse at at Mr Grahams got back to Elgin about nine O'Clock Mr Robert Smiths agreed to give me $115 for my horse I am to deliver him in about two weeks was a nice day.

Nov 1st I wrote to Mrs. E. Smith 2 cts for stamp Mr. Wallie Brown gave me the job of moving Chisholm monument an cutting his sisters Ins. on I called on Mrs McGhie she ordered a $210 job I settled with Pat $2.20 spent 15 cts came to Morton got a buggy from F. Taber went over to Mrs Burnes back to Jas. G. for dinner came to town got a bag of Apples from Mis Lillie got in about six Mary & I went to show 15 cts was a nice day

2nd It rained nearly alday I got Mr Sloans P.O. Order cashed $25 gave Mr. Kenny $5.00 Jack $1000 got a book of stamps 25 cts 10 cts for P.O. wrote to Wm & A. Webb & Wm Rickard letters & to Wm Sloan got out some tracings it rained nearly alday.

3rd It rained nearly alday I went to church this eve

4th I wrote to M.C. & Co. 10 cts for a plug of tobacco for Jack L. 5 cts for candy Mrs McCormick paid me in full for Lackie job & $2.00 for a mark I am to put it in this fall or next spring gave Mary $5.00 have to night $24.78 cts was a nice day.

5th Edward Gonyou paid the 12th payment $10{cut off} I got 3 cts worth of putty it rained some in fore noon Jim came in in after noon we loaded Smith job got two cwt of corn.

12th I worked around barn untill noon hitched on cutter went out to Frank Atcheson's on to Wm Maitlands then to Mrs Martins then to E. Page's stayed alnight have to-night $1.06 was a nice day but cold

13 I left Ephriams about eight came out by Brewers Mills made some calls between there and Seeleys Bay, had dinner at Mr. Metcalf's 60 cts J.A. $ owes 15 yet Steacy paid me in full a balance on monument of $7500 I went over to Mrs E. Smith she paid me in full $9200 I sent $75 to Mrs Ketchum to apply on note came down to Jims stayed to-night he & Patience went over to Mrs D. McMachen's to Pearls reception they got back about two O'Clock his mare was sick he got me up I went over after Joe Tye 3 cts at P.O. to-day was a nice day but cold.

14th I drove up to Mrs Leadbeaters back to Jims had dinner took Joe Tye home went to Lyndhurst called on Mrs Joe Warren Mrs Denby came back to Jims for tea we drove up to Mrs Leadbeater to see Mrs John Leadbeater it was snowed very hard when we came home & snowed a lot to day

15th stayed around home alday at Jim's in fore noon came over to Rob G's & to church stayed at Rob's to-night it snowed a lot last night and to-day.

16th I left Rob G's about eight came out to Mrs Virtue's she paid me in full $7500 on to H. Glovers called at Dancy's Mrs Steacy then to Elgin had dinner called at D. Campbell's he paid me in full $7.00 I bought a carpet sweeper from him $2.50 had tea with Mr R. Smith sold Mr. M. Ripley a $15000 spent 25 cts was a nice day with a little snow stayed at Pat's to night

17th I settled with Pat $1.50 came out to Eugen Edgers sold a $700 job went on out to clear lake sold Ed Wright a $100 job then to Ben Cannon's he gave me a check for $200 owes me $23 yet is to send it soon wrote Mary a letter & card 4 cts sent her $500 came to Sarahs stayed alnight was a lovely day.

18th left Sarahs about eight came out to Orange Pennock's sold a $2700 job on to Alden Merrimens then to W. T. Leggett then to Geo. Churche's had dinner Pat Hane was there 40 cts for dinner went in to the Narrow Locks called at Wm Carty's then to Newboro sold Eddy Green a $130 called on a Miss Wright this eve gave youngsters 3 cts stayed at Preston house to-night have $164.60 cts was a nice day.

19th called on a Mrs Richardson about a job for a Mr.

Paul paid my bill at Preston house $1.25 came out to Crosby had dinner at Geo. Church's got shoes on my cutter $2.75 for it & dinner came on to Forfar sold Mr. Adrain a $9000 job came out to Philipsville seen Mr. Haskin then through by Plum Hollow to Athens 10 cts for shave was a nice day called on McGonigall girls this morn they promisded me an order in March I stayed at A Scotts to-night

20th I called on Mrs Churchill Mrs Rappell Mrs Slack & Mrs Halladay had dinner at the Gamble house 50 cts came out through Mallorytown to Escott called at Kennedy's then to Wm Moultons stayed alnight spent 5 cts was a nice day.

21st came out by Fair Fax to to Jas. McDonald sold a $17000 job had dinner came to Town got a bag of apples from Art Pownell 75 cts Ross & Alice came in we all went to show in eve I paid our way 10 cts, John Bell was in and gave me a check for $337 on morgage $300 of this on principle and $37 Ints in full to date it was $37.50 cts I throwed off the 50 cts. I paid him in full for teaming $1.75 Paid Will Pierce what I owe him on hay $5 and mr Kenny hay comes to $22.32 he took for cash $2150 I am to

charge Mr Kenny $22.32 got a pair of boots $2.00 gave Alice 20 cts this squares us up again

22nd Ross & Alice went home this after-noon I lent Ross $2500 was a nice day

23rd I drove down to John Donovan's had dinner came home I borrowed a horse cover from Mr McCarney was an awfull rainy day

24th gave Willie Meggs #2.25 for renewal of Toronto News and Gan. Journal got Cannon draft cached $200 cost 25 cts spent 50 cts 4 cts for candy & nuts paid Mrs Johnson for rent to Jan 1st 1908 the balance due her was $2500 I over paid her $500 I gave her $30 got a bu of corn 80 cts 1/2 bu of wheat 60 cts a cwt of ground corn $1.50 Jim & Patience came in this eve I put Bell's $337 & Cannon's $200 & $40 out of my pocket bank makes a total of $652.78 cts in bank at this date after paying the balance of my note $50 given on Dec 6th

25th spent about 40 cts Jim Patience & Mother left for home after two it snowed some was not cold

26th have this morn 26.86 cts went over called on Mrs. W. G Matthews she agreed to leave $125 in bank for me I put my buggy away went down after dinner to Mrs M. Cross she agreed

to see me again before buying a monument I gave a Mr. Clendening $10 to give his brother for 20 bu of oats he brought me about a month ago this pays him in full called at Mrs. R. Foley's she agreed to give me her order later on got back to town about dusk got my horse shod 60 cts 5 ts for carbolic oil 40 cts for books was a nice day.

27th Went out near Washburn this morn to a Mrs Martin's sold a $9500 job came back to E. Pages had dinner & then to town sold Mr. R.Hutcheon a $9000 job wrote letters to G.N. Sheffield Willoughby Bros. Chas. Taber John Monoughan Thos. Norris spent 20 cts was a nice day.

28th Gonyou's paid there 13th payment on property $1600 I got my horse clipped $1.0 & 75 cts for some medicine for his breast to dr. Walker got a P.O. Order for S.B. Norton $800 cost 6 cts got a $100 draft for Ross Gamble cost 15 cts mailed it to him 25 cts for a book of stamps It rained last night & took all the snow it rained some this fore noon

29th We stayed around the house alday was a dark cloudy day

30th It snowed last night and rained all the fore-noon to-day & took it off got

a check from G.N. Sheffield for $57.06 he owes me $5.44 cts yet yet I got out some tracings went to nomination in eve called on Mrs Denny she agreed to come and help us if we want her at $1.00 a day I am to let her know to-morrow, or next day.

31st called on Mrs Spence she wanted me to wait untill saturday to make my payment on morgage it is due to-morrow I called on Mrs. J. Church finished my tracing & wrote to Jas. Hutcheon took a lesson on my crayon work to-night was a windy day.

Jan 1st have this morning $77.87 cts 10 cts for carbolic oil we went for a drive in fore noon fo about an hour had R.J.Wilsons buggy I called on Mrs Denny she agree to come and help us through our sickness got a letter from B.M. Cannon with a check for $2300 payment in full for monument Geo. was down for a while this eve was a nice day.

2nd Got a check for Milne Coutts & Co. for $75.00 cost 25 cts. 35 cts for medicine for Mary. 25 cts for camphor made out a statement for Jas. Hutcheon got B.M. Cannon's check cashed $2300 was a nice day.

3rd I went up to Howe Island called at Mrs Jas Driscoll she paid me balance in full on monument $5.00 came on to Mrs Reochefort had dinner sold a $125.00 job left near five O'Cock for town 25 cts each way on ferry Ross G. brought us in a quarter of beef Mary was taken sick this eve we had Dr. Bird down was a nice day

4th The Dr. was down about ten Mrs Graham came and stayed with Mary untill about seven I then got a Mrs Findley she

came about four four Ross took my horse went out for mother they got in after four our Baby was born about half past five or six 8 cts for safty pins 60 cts for oranges & cookies 25 cts for an invalids cup 5 cts for vasline 25 cts for coal oil lent Ross 25 cts was a very stormy windy day & night with snow and rain 15 cts for bread Mrs Graham charged 50 cts I owe here this yet.

5th I got a 10 ct. bottle of castor oil & 2 oz of Carbolic acid 30 cts I gave Ross 5.00 on a quarter of beef to-day I wrote to Sarah, Mary, & Jim, this eve was a windy day I lent Mr. Kenny $15.00 paid my P.O. Box rent to June 30th 1908 is 75 cts 25 cts for some talcum powder 25 cts for soap 25 cts for cream of wheat 23 cts for clothes line 6 cts for stamps Mrs Moulton came in this morn Mrs Findley let about five this eve have left to-night $29.38 cts was a nice day

7 Mrs Findley came down for a while this morn 50 cts for brandy 50 cts for breast pump 20 cts for peppermint 10 cts for pail 30 cts for alcohol 45 cts for salt 5 cts for bread I drove down to R. Hutcheson in after-noon have to-night $27.28 cts was a nice day.

8 It snowed some last night 20 cts for carbolic acid wrote a card to W. Willis 1 ct. got a box of cocoa 15 cts I got Mrs Alf

Green to come and stay with Minnie to-night spent 25 cts Mr Noah Peck paid me in full for monument erected in fall also for 3 markers they are to go in in the spring I paid Mrs Mary Spence $550 on morgage and $37.38 cts interest was a nice day

9 I gave Mrs Moulton $5.00 to use for house got a letter from J.A. Steacy with a check for $15.00 pay in full for monument was a nice day but cold.

10 mailed a letter to B.M. Cannon J.A. Steacy Miss Sarah Fraser & Homer Graham 4 cts for stamps lent Henry Thomas 5.00 went for a drive Jim came in this eve stayed alnight was a nice day.

11 I wrote a card to Milne Coutts & Co. 10 cts for Cascarra paid T.J. 23rd I worked some in shop gave Seals Bros $500 Jack L $1000 & Mr Peck and Son $1500 for Mary {illegible} Chas Rogers $1500 we got ready started for Mr Gambles about half past three got out about six I went on to Andys had tea called on Joe Moorhead he promised he would not do burnes untill he would see me again I stayed alnight with Andy was a nice day

24th Andys took my horse & rig & went out to Sarahs I came up to Mr Gambles Ross & I took a drive over to Jims in afternoon Geo was up Mother came over to Aunt Anns with us I took Mary & Dora to Aunt Anns a few minutes then back & we all went down to Bobs Mary & I stayed alnight I gave Mr Gamble 25 cts I owed him was a nice day

25th I went down to factory with Rob in morn and got my horse lost my lap rug went in to Aunt Anns got another took her out to Billys on to Elgin called on Will Jacop they said they would be in in June to order a headstone for child called

29th Jack & I went out to new cemetary I marked on Mrs Turners Ins left Jack to cut it I finished up Mabee Job to day he & I drove out to day was a nice day I paid Mr Kenny for helping on Coulton Job $1.00

30th Jack took horse & rig went out to finish the Turner Job got back about ten he did not do any more to day I gave him $1000 & Chas Rogers $1000 I owe Chas $700 more on painting house I got some footstones ready to polish I fixed mistake on Webb Job Mr Gonyou paid me in full for eggs he got a few days ago 50 cts he got 3 doz this eve 48 cts they are not paid for I went to conservative meeting in eve it rained some to day

31st I gave Mary 80 cts on eggs we stayed around house alday went for drive in eve was a nice day

June 1th I have this morn $2800 Jack & I got ready for union cemetary we got dow there before ten I marked Ins on Keating & Allen Job we had dinner & tea & lodging at R Leeders I gave Mr Leeder 75 cts for a grindstone & on board I worked on Allen Job this afternoon I wrote to R F In. 8th Have this morn $56.13 cts I marked Ins on McGhie Job onboxed some Granite got three shoes set on horse got 100 lbs of bran $1.25 one bu of corn 88 cts spent 25 cts was election day Dargavel got in by nearly 190 of majority I went lodge in eve nice day

9th I wrote letters to Mrs J Earl Mrs J Beeman & S.M. Ripely & S.B Norton 10 cts for stamps 8 cts post cards Mr Anderson Agent for Gullett of Toronto was along I gave him & order for 2 Jobs got ready after dinner left for Ebeneazer Mr Kenny went with me we fixed two slabs for Mr S Turner 15 cts for {illegible}

to clean them 15 cts for gold size John for cement for straps & bolts 40 cts we got through about seven it was near four when we started got home about nine was down to Haelstead Bay cemetery this afternoon Repairing for Sam Turner was a nice day

10th I paid Rogers in full $2.00 Seals Bros 40 cts for straps got yeasterday 10 cts for bread gave Minnie 30 cts Levi Church was here for dinner tea & alnight was a nice day

11th I sent a card to Jacob Herbison I got Mathews markers ready took it to Mabee Job out I erected them in afternoon I two express parcels for Mrs Moulten 45 cts gave Willson girl 5 cts Levi had breakfast & tea with us went to cemetery with me was a nice day

17th We left about half past five got to the cemetary about nine erected all but Griers foot stones recieved on Earl job $100 she ows on $30 Mr Johnson ows me $600 on his they had dinner & tea for us we got home about eight have tonight $131.85 cts Jack cut initial on two footstones was a nice day

18th We loaded Nobbs Job left about half past seven got out to Brewers Mills about eleven got it about four Jim went home 10 cts for cement Jim done nearly all the work we are setteled in full to date I got no on the Webbs Job it we broak a on 18 cts Job to day I got home about half past seve I was sick alday was very hot

19th Jack finished lettering Bibely Job & cut the name Green on a base sunk letter & rubbed up about five footstones they were sand rubbed I went down paid my note in bank $150.00 cts 25 cts for book of stamps I wrote to Mrs McGhie Ed Green Homer Graham I had sleep in afternoon A McKelpin paid me $2500 on note Jack L gave me $3600 that Mrs Bowen left with him for me I gave Mr Kenny $1200 the man I owe him $1500 painted some letters this afternoon & cut some tracing on base in eve

Frank Johnson called & got his corner posts also got C Kirkwoods they are $700 or $800 I am not sure which I told him Franks are paid for 5 cts for banas 15 cts for treat 10 cts for shave

20th I wrote to John Darling 20 cts for cuttle fish bone gave Jack L $7000 got ready about ten went out to Birmingham cemetary fixed some letters on Gonyous Job on to Pine grove fixed some on Andrews Job had my dinner with meal then came on to Dan Pattersons then to W Staffords Sold Mrs Stafford a double head stone Des W. Blue marble Price $15.00 to be erected not later than the middle of August came on to Joe Moorheads then to Andys had tea then over home mother came in with me it was after eleven when we got home it was a nice day rained some last night

agreed to take there load out for $500 I worked untill one oclock to night was a nice day

23rd We left a few minutes after six had dinner at Olivet church got to Elgin about half past four onloaded all but Jims Job & mine we all had tea spent 25 cts Ins M Ripely & I went for drive I settled with Dan Rob Ross gae them three dollars each Jim gave me 75 cts that Mr A Gray owed me for repairing in cemetery was a nice day quite quite warm Jim & I stayed at Pats alnight

24th Have this morn $53.73 cts we left after seven for Westport I got there by noon Jim stopped at Newbourh for dinner I had mine with Mary fed horses at C Brennan we got Green Job up had tea at C Brennans I settled with him $1.25 cts for tea It was near eight when we left Westport stopped at Newbour over night Mrs Green paid me in full $130 spent 10 cts gave Marys boys 8 cts was a nice day with a showr of rain

25th I settled with Geo $200 got to Elgin about nine Spent 15 cts Jim went home seen S Dargavel he agreed to take No Des 2-6X1-0X2-6 Base 2-11X1-5X1-0 In Burnsed granite with two Inc $12500 got a buggy from Pat went out to Mr Wm Frys had dinner called on Mrs Geo Johnson

she was away went on to Portland seen a Mr Freeman back to Miles Young had tea agreed to put on an Ins at 15 cts a letter in Elgin cemetery came on to Mrs Johnsons called again could do no business to day on to Mrs Jno Roswells sold a $100 stayed over night was a nice day Geo Howard gave me $2500 on what he ows me I think I gave Jim 75 cts to pay expences

26th Called at F Steadmans on to Elgin settled with Pat $300 spent 10 cts came out to Ripely cem erected the small cross to Mrs Heart it is worth $1800 not paid came on to Mr Gambles for dinner got in home about four hae left to night $19280 cts I gave Mrs Roswell 50 cts this morn & $1.75 cts to J Bishop after I marked the above amount this pays him in full for work & 20 cts for Ice cream

27th I wrote to R F In Co Q Q & Co F. Pergau a card to R M Gullett went down paid $5430 cts duty & the 30 cts that I owed on last lot have left about three oclock $136.25 cts Jack L & I had a settlement to day & find that due him $37.25 I gave him $12.25 leaves a balance of $2500 he is to finish up Shuly slab ordered by John Garrau it will take Monday to do it I gave E Scott 50 cts for varnish I onely got 15 or 20 cts worth he owes me the balance he did not
