24th A Fortunate Day Maunday Thursday the Day before Good Friday Livinia & Ellen crofsed went for a Lamb the Boy & Me alone a Fine Day Great crofsing to and From Summerss Feeding Good Hay this sometime to the cows Livinia came

25th Good Friday I went to Tom Kennedys with the chain Bought of Mr Harper 1 Quart & pint of Hi Wine 10 1/2 Broom) -/7 1/2 Treat -/7 1/2 Paul Jo a Bad Fall of the sleigh on the ice cut his head took home a pail of soft Maple sap Made syrup of it this is the first new sugar this year Tapt 10 Trees with the augur Grears Boy here

26th Went to Salmon River Bought of P Buchanan 1lb shot 15 cent paid Bought of Baker 2 lb shot 25 cents 1 pair hinges & screws 10 cents a Gun Lock 2 Boxes of Caps 10 cents Gillis Buying a cow Got a peice of a chain from Bill ice Getting Bad but crofsing Got some Balls from Bole Blackbirds came some Geese & Ducks Charlie here not very well

27th Easter Sunday Charlie went home gave him some caps Buckshot cream oats pease Tea Ice opened where I crofsed yesterday Wild Geese plenty salted eggs But no Fresh ones

East Monday Began to Tap Taped about 60 Trees Some more to Tap took home 11 pails but our Pots is too small for Boiling it opening very slow to Day shot a Squirrel caught an EEl

29th Easter Tuesday Gathering sap and Boiling in the house which is a very slow way makde 2 1/2 Gallons of Mollassess

30th a change in the Moon took home 5 pails not running very well thats about 40 pails now if it was attended to there would be a Good Lot of sugar made ice only open to Francis Island on our road crofsing opens Better on the South side went to head of the Island My canoe is there but full of Ice took some out of it took home a Load of Wood cutting the ice at the shore for fear the cattle will get in for they must go out to the far oof Waterhole hailing and raining some East wind high this 3 Days now

31st Last Day of the Month in the Bush Keeping the cows in and thats not an easy Job running some 10 lbs sugar made hens not Laying yet

April the 1st East Wind not running very well in the Bush about 60 Pails now went to the Canoe at the head of the Island seen a Rat cleaned out the red canoe

2nd Sugared of took home 5 pails I think it will make vinegar the cows went to the Bush Ducks not Plenty

3rd Sunday Ice opening Between this & Charlies in the evening

4th Gathering 20 Pails Sugard of 8 lb Made 1 1/2 pails of Sap Boiled out of 5 pails piling some of the Wood

5th Drawing Fence Rails Drawing Stones Got 15 pails of Sap to Day took home a Load of Chips First Laying of Hens ice going Down cows Going to the Bush Bad with the Rheumatism

6th 12 lb in Big cake 1 lb in the Little one Shot a Rat Brought my canoe From the Head of Island Dutcher Passed here Firing the cannon For McFarlinger Robins came Gathered 9 pails to Day I got 7 pails of sap Killed a Snake cleaning around the {illegible} taken up stones Fixing the Hops taking home chips

Sap near Done Got 1 Pail took home chips Sugared of 12 in One 4 in another Frogs commenced

9th Made Molasses 1 1/2 Gal put out the 2 Rams seen a Boat crofsing to Salmon River Towing a canoe after it Making a Door for up Stairs wind high East wind all the time this while now Setting Fires in the Trout Marsh ice in it yet set the Fires on the ice Sunday the 2 years to Day since we were married

Sunday the 10th snowing hard went for the cows to the Bush Found the Fox's hole in a Big Elm Bully killed one of the young ones took 1 home as it is Sunday. Leave it alone to Day Raining & hailing and sunshine

11th went to see if the Fox could Be Found Killed her in the Log got 4 young ones more that 6 she had skinned the Fox their eyes is not open yet but they take milk East wind yet ice Going Down Loons came

12th 2 of the Frashers here Gave them my canoe wind high

13th Tapt 6 more Trees Snowing & Raining

14th came with the Canoe Gave them a Dish to Bail their Pont Putting out Manure Drawing stones cleaning around the Door took home 6 pails Snow & Sap Swallows came Bakers Barge in to Salmon River Lashey here gave him a Bunch of Matches took his spear & 1 stick to Make his Paddle

15 Fixed the Hinges on the Door & chest set 8 Traps Lashey took his Gun & Traps away Gave him a pound of shot & caps he has got my horn and a peice of Trap chain Indians coming Down for the first spearing of EEls

16th Drawing stones putting them at the Bank Before the Door at the River drew some Basswood Logs to the Bank shot a Rat got him in the Morning

17th got 3 Rats snowing a Good Lot Frost too ice

18th Our Duncans Birth Day First Eating of EEgs very sick take Limewater and milk Chopping out the Bottom of the Canoe Began the Fence at upper Feild very unwell Tom Scutters here crofsed with an Irishman

24th Sunday 2 Lambs 1 Dead 1 of the old sheep Went with Gordon to the Little Island the Sturgeon Island south side) a Fine Day Great Shooting on the Dundee side very sick took some nitre which made me feel Better its cold the sap runs a Little yet ice Going down

Working at the Fence Charlie here Fishing EEls Brought up 2 Kinds of Melons cucumbers Sage Fixing the Canoe Back of the Barn something rong with the Kingston as she is Letting of Steam going up at the Pitt Point a Fine Day

10th a Fine Morning But it commenced to Rain cleaning the shore cut the Plum trees on the Bank Drew the Basswood tree away took home some wood Kept in the Heifer that takes the cows home {illegible} Washing some of the Bedcloths Drew the canoe from the Barn to the River the {illegible}orey went Down Rafts going Down Lots of {illegible} are going Down

11th Ploughing cold Day but fine for working East Wind it takes the Magnet 12 minutes from here till she is out of sight of the Butternut Island Boats a Going in Plenty it takes the Champion 14 minutes to do what the Magnet done {illegible}

7th Our Ellens Birth Day Mrs James Hopkins wife in Williamstown Taking up Potatoes 10 Bushels about 2 Bushels Froze put in the old House

8th Went to tell Mr Harper about his Boat Bought of Mr Harper 15 lb of Pork at -/7 1/2 9/3 1/2 1 Canister of Powder 1/3 2 Treats paid crofsed with Robert MDonell to Renshaws then came Back seen Thomas Summers an David at Renshaws Fixing the Boat with George Mrs Munroe & Mrs Hopkins crofsed Gave Powell a Paddle got a small Bottle & a Whipstock in my canoe came Home the Grecian & St Helen stopt at Renshaws took Wood

12th Andrew Summers here Promised to put up 150 Bushels of Sand Good Measure which I will do as I got that number of Bushels already at 3 cents a Bushel thats 4.50 Endorsed on the note told me to bring a Jar on the Bargain and he would give some Stimuation crofsed got a 1/2 Gallon at Harpers from Andrew came home Old Halloween On this Day of the Month old John Summers Departed cracking nuts

13th Sunday 4 Men Fishing EEls before the Door

14th Sawed 3 Logs 1 Log 14 Feet the other 2 12 Feet a peice Breadth 14 inches thick Bouquet in to Salmon River Steamers a Going and Towing put in the Horses for the First night shot a saw Beak at the Lower end of the Island

25th Christmas Day a Fine Day Jim Hopkins George Morris & Lukes Boy here came Down on the Ice

26th Fine I went to spear EEls got 44 turning soft

27th Working at the pine stick got it Raised

28th Raining cutting the ice around the other pine got it to stir some a New Moon Kind of Soft the ice getting Bad
