August 1902

17. Just returned from prayer meeting. where one of the Mifs Summers of Albequirk delighted the people with two solos. Mrs Summers and two daughters are visiting her friends
18 Fine day. Mary came to ask our folk to a little pic nic tomorrow. for Jimie Cattanach & wife
19. Another fine day. Birdie went with John A's to the Front. Jimie went after dinner Mrs Summers and her two daughters and Mrs Brown (sister of Mrs Summers) called in afternoon. I went to vestry to pack the Bale for N.W. there was no one there. but myself. After an hour Mrs John Dingwall came, we done nothing, all the stuff was not there.
20 Put out strawberrie plants among the carrots At 10 A.M. took a notion to go to the N. Branch on the Kings road. About McGillivrays place I was upset off the road by Wilson's team which got away from him. I got Murdy's buggy wrecked some. And a good shaking to myself. I Kept on to Aunt Flora's.
21 Rain all day Birde baked in oven. I am so stiff and sore I did not get up until 10.30 A.M. To sugar 25 cts on 20th. Got at factory 4 lb butter 4 1/4 cheese
22 Fine though dull until evening then rain Birde made the washing. Maggy Buning & two Mifs Finleys from Bells Corners, near Ottawa, called about 4.40 P.M. it began to rain, we prevailed on them to remain to tea. they we did.
23 Dull with showers all day. Pa bot 4 1/2 lbs steak To 1 lb tea at J.A's 30 cts. 50
24 Rained in the night. Now 9.30 A.M. Fine. I am up every day. but do very little.
August 1902
25 Murdy went to work today. I know not where Pa and Jimie breaking stones. The bale for N.W. packed today in vestry
26 Fine day. Our young folk are going to J.A's to tea. 2 1/2 lb butter factory
27 Fine day. rain last night. Birdie sent the eggs to the store 4 doz. due bill 60 cts..
28 The boys were at a party at E. Dingwall's last night. Jimie drew a load of gravel. Had Braussa all day. putting cement on stable floor Birdie was colouring carpet rags. Got at Willies for the eggs. 3 packets D. Dyes 30. yest 5 one paket D. D at J.A's 10 cts.. I am not getting better very fast, not able to do much
29 Jimie was spending the last evening at J.C's Very fine day. Jimie drew a gravel Courie began to board the barn, Brausa 1/2 day Got the invoice for Cement & felt $16.15. Freight
30 Pa went to Cornwall today took cars at Summerstown Got $ 100 from D.B. Bot at Philips 2 sets woollen under wear $4. 2 white shirts $2. 1 neck tie 25 1 woollen night cap 25.

31. Fine day. Mifs Ella Walker sang a solo in our church
{Written on right margin of page} Sept Mount Pelee was in eruption on Saturday August 30th and so was the volcano in St. Vincent B.W.I.
