Saturday 16th. Cold in the morning bitterly cold in the afternoon underbrushing, boiling pumpkins. Took the sow to Shantz hog. Settled with Kennedy 2.10.0 d left 5 d due Kennedy.
Sunday 17th Cold, dull, fine.
Monday 18th Extremely cold, went to Conaways to get proper papers on Iden, and John Gobles land, but did not get them. Paid Kennedy 5 d. spent 1.5 d on breadstuf at the village. Costed Miles Wilton's letter at Arran. P.O. Grinding corn, boiling pumpkins, underbrushing, shelling corn.
Tueday 19th Cold but fine. Went to Salter's with oxen and helped to put up log leanto. Boiling pumpkins, under Brushing, fetching sow home. A men called for Father to go off milling to Kincardine. One short from Paul Nedy's 4 s. 4 1/2d.
Wednesday 20th Cold and dull, Under brushing. finished boiling pumpkins drawing turnips home and fire wood drawing and chopping. The following is an account of moneys expended by me since leaving for Hamilton. For board lodging and drink £3.11.11/2d. Pair of Boots £1.0.0 Seeds 15 Shillings. Stove Bridges 2.6 d. Mr G. Leeds for trouble 5.0 ditto travelling expenses 8..8d. Settled with him for money borrowed at £2.10.0. Pair of pants 13..0 d. 2 shirts 18..9 d. Books 3.1/2d. Settled with Donald Gordon for apple trees £2.9.4 d. Pipe 1.6 d. Nails 1.101/2d. Settled with Turner for cow 5.0.0 d. paid the monet to the wife. Settled for pork and tallow £1..2.6 Turner owed me 3 shillings gave him 1.0.0 d. leaves 6 d. due me. Paid in advance to Robert Reid 7..6 d. A Quarters Postage in advance 4 d. Postage on two letters 9 d. one of them to P.S. Stevenson Esquire. Hamilton. One poundd of biscuit 9 d. Goods from Calders 8.9 d. Settled with Mrs J. Goble. 11..3 d. Total £17.0.21/2d.
Thursday 21st Cold fine pleasant. Underbrushing. Father started
