DECEMBER TUESDAY 19 1876
This should be entered on Friday 22nd
"(I take Cars for Buffalo take up Steam Guage{Gauge} & get fix'd. I buy Car Soft Nut Coal, at $240, order Wrapping Paper, & get Gas fixings at Toyrs. Take up 13 Bbls Fleshings for L W Nash Jr. he pays me $125 pr Bbl & freight of Bbls down $180. Mrs Lansing Jr. goes up.) " Geo Suirs meets me at Station on returning & tells me Hughs was very drunk all day. I give him instructions & charge of Tannery & orders for Watchman, & Forbid Timmy Doyle to give Hughs any liquor. xThis A.M. Uncle John & I take Cars for StC to attend Mrs Courtneys Trial with Bruk. Grale Dicksons Wife dies at StC today. Meet WmA Thompson on Cars & family, going up & down from Bridge. Expenses $500.
DECEMBER WEDNESDAY 20 1876
Go to Tannery at 7. Give Hughs blowing up & discharge him. Follett comes up down & talks to Hughs & gets me to take him back. He promises to go up & be reinstated at Lodge tonight. I forbid J Rosseau to give Hughs any more liquor. I catch Willie Rosseau giving him Whiskey not 5 minutes after. Hughs goes up to Lodge & is reinstated. Herbert joins tonight. I go with him.
