Ella Maurer's Diary For the Year 1927

We were living on the farm in North Woolwich. Happy Days!

January, 1927

1 Saturday. Fine and very cold. We had New Year's dinner here and the following company - Mr & Mrs Sim. Weaver, Mr. & Mrs Lincoln Weaver, Willard, Mildres, Doris and Howard and Aubrey Lawson. Walter took Mr. Bergman's meat to Floradale this morning.

2 Sunday. Changeable weather We drove to church & S. School with Enoch's in the sleigh.

3 Monday. Fair and not very cold. Ella did the washing and Vernon was drawing manure. Walter went to Floradale to vote. Tfhe old council were elected nameley - Alex Forbes reeve, N Snider d. reeve, W Veitch, Almon Snider and Tom Hemmerich councillors. Callers here today were - Mrs. Stauge, Addison Reist, Noab Miller, Esther and Ruth Miller.

January, 1927

4 Tuesday. Quite mild. Snowed all day. Walter was away butchering at Jos. Gingrich all day. Vernon took a load of grist to Addison Riest, and got it chopped. Mrs. Conrad Schmidt died at Elmirastedy.

5 Wednesday. Colder & snowing and blowing. Walter went to Earnests and Elmer this p.m. Ella visited Mrs. Elmer King and Walter's Elsas were with there for tea.

6 Thursday. Very stormy. Walter went to Elmira this morning. Ezra Mauver brought 4 pigs home for him and was here for dinner.

7 Friday. Clear and very cold. 10 below zero this morning. We butchered a pig for ourselves today. Noah Miller helped this forenoon and was here for dinner. Clarence and Lloyd Fahrenhole called on Walter this p.m. Mrs. Schmidt was buried this afternoon.

January, 1927

11 Tuesday. Fine and cold. Walter went to Sim's and Luise this morning and to Moses Reist sale this afternoon. Vernon was drawing {manure?}. Caller - Harvey Reist, Andrew & Norman Henderson, Norman Atkuison and Whitney {inellgible}.

12 Wednesday Cold & raw. Walter butchered 2 pigs at Otto Milleso today and killed a beef when he got home. Vernon was drawing manure. Annie Schreider and her two cousins Edna & Margaret Walter from Wallace visited Ella and were here for tea. Other callers - Enoch & Irwin Schneider & Cleo Edler.

13 Thursday Milder. Snowed all day. Walter shipped hogs and attended Sam Weber;s funeral. Ella visited at Edward Schwindto and we were all there for supper and the evening.

May, 1927.

25 Wednesday. Heavy showers this morning. Clear and windy p.m. Started to rain again tonight. Walter & Ella went to Kitchener today and had their dinner at Edith's. Walter went to choir practice tonight.


26 Thursday. Cloud, cold & drizzly. Walter shipped hogs this morning, had his dinner at Norman {Sniders?} and helped dig sewers at the parsonage this p.m. Ella did her ironing and varinshed the linoleum.


27 Friday. Clear, cool fine day. Frost last night. Grandpa Krauter came up this morning and Grandpa Maurer after dinner and they helped at the garage. Ella cleaned the kitchen.

28 Saturday. Fair and warmer. Grandpa Maurer came up here again this morning and they were working at the garage. Grandpa Krauter went home tonight. Ella sowed {everlasting, zinnias?}, gaillardias and Oriental mixture.

May 1927.

29 Sunday. Cloudy. Cold east wind. We went to church & S.School this afternoon. Our companuy for tea - Mr & Mrs. Otto Miller and norman. Otto took us all for a ride in his new McLaughlin.

30 Monday. Changeable. The men plowed and worked up the mangel ground. Ella hoed in the garden and planted corn, beans, muskmelon, pumpkin, sunflower, hollyhocks, {annual chrysanthemums, columbines, canterbury bills?} and four o'clocks.

31 Tuesday. Cold, windy & drizzly. Walter sowed the mangels today. Ella worked in the garden and planted beets, radishes, cucumbers, watermelon and crop beans also calendula and dwarf hollyhucks. Grandpa Krauter came here tonight. Vernon plowed this p.m.

June, 1927

1 Wednesday. Clear, cool & windy

Grandpa and Walter worked at the garage. Vernon was plowing. Ella did her washing. {Callers tonight - Geo Stone?}, Mrs. A. Wagner and Beatrice.

2 Thursday. Lovely day. Walter shipped hogs at Elmira this morning and they worked at the garage this pm. Ella did her ironing and {illegaible} Maurer's coop. Callers - Noah Miller, Eurels Schneider and Mr. Stuckey.

3 Friday. Fair. East wind. The men made the garage door today and finished the floor. Noah Miller blasted stones here this morning and was here for dinner. Vernon plowed this p.m.

4 Saturday. Showers all day. The men made the concerete foundation for the porch this afternoon and Grandpa Krauter went home.

5 Sunday. Cloudy & cold. We went to church & S.School today and were at {Mrs. Thier's?} for dinner & supper.

June, 1927

6 Monday. Fine day. Ella did her washing and cleaned up the wash-house. The men fixed the pasture field fence this morning and this p.m. Walter was drawing manure and Vernon plowed.

7 Tuesday. Fine day. Ella cleaned the dairy, boiled Grandpa's {soap?} for the third time and transplanted her stocks. The men were drawing manure and plowing. Otto Miller & Norman visited us last night and Noah Miller tonight. Walter & {Jno?}. Krauter spent the evening at Joe's place.

8 Wednesday. Wonderful morning. Sultry and thunderstorms all day. Ella went to the District S.S.Convention at North East Hope with Ed.Bender and had her dinner & suppoer at the {Jno?}. Mohn's. We came home in a succession of thunderstorms but managed to keep dry.

9 Thursday. Sultry with thundershowers all day. Walter shipped hogs and cleaned up the slaughterhouse. Edwin & Wilfrid Shur and Mr & Mrs. Wesley Miller.

June, 1927

10 Friday. Sultry & showery. Cleaned up tonight. Walter took a load of grit to Floradale. We went to church tonight where Rev J.P. Hauch preached. Walter attended the Quarterly Board Meeting. First night of {beef ring?}.

11 Saturday. Fair and windy. Walter & Enoch went up to {Dorking?} this morning. Mr & Mrs. Norman Ring and children Blanche, Phyllis, Graham, Claire and Jean visited us tonight.

12 Sunday. Fine, cool day. Mr & Mrs. Chas. Heillard came up before dinner and went to church & S.S. with us this afternoon.

13 Monday. Lovely day. Grandpa and Grandma Krauter came up here this morning and GRandpa fixed the front porch. Mr & Mrs. Heillard went home this afternoon. Our company tonight - Mr & Mrs. Gerald Shoemaker, Angus, Ivan, Clarence, Cecil and Ella, and Mr & Mrs. Earl Miller.

June, 1927

14 Tuesday. Fair and cool. Walter & Vernon were plowing corn ground. Walter & Ella went to choir practice tonight.

15 Wednesday. Fair and cool. The men were plowing & rolling. Walter & Ella went to League and practice tonight.

16 Thursday. Fair and cool. Walter shipped hogs this morning. They were plowing. Ella went to practice tonight to play for the Bethel quartette. We had an ice cream party at Harvey Schmidt's in honour of Earl's fifth wedding anniversary. Edna, Lois and Howard visited us today and were here for dinner. Other callers - Jonas Basinger and Mr. Dunn.

17 Friday. Fine day. The men were plowing corn ground. Ella went to practice with Irvin & Annie

18 Saturday. SHowery. The men disked and harrowed the corn ground. We went to Elmira, to Angus Weber's tonight to practice a quartette.

June 1927

19 Sunday. Cloduy & drizzly. We went to S.School this morning. Vernon had his dinner at Edmund {Schmidtt?}. Mr & Mrs. Coson Jefferson, Roy & Lois were here for tea. We had our Children's Day services tonight.

20 Monday. Sultry & threatening. The men planted 6 rows of potatoes and owned some of the corn. Tonight we went to the Township S.S. Convention at {Oneota?} with Louis Miller. Walter sang in two quartets with Charlie Miller, Augs, Weber and Norman Snyder.

21 Tuesday. Sultry & threatening. The men finished planting the corn and potatoes.

22 Wednesday. Sultry. Walter went to Kitchener today with Noah Miller and they had their dinner at Edric (Walter's sisters, Mrs. Frank Hamel)

23 Thursday. Sultry & windy. Turned cool tonight. Walter shipped hogs. They worked on the flax & turnip ground. Callers = Norman Henderson. Nella Stickney, cousin Eva Schneider.

June, 1927.

24 Friday. Fair. The men prepared the grounds and owned the turnips today Edna brought Aunt Barbara (Mrs. {Sulter, of Alliance, Alberta} down here this p.m.

25 Saturday. Sultery. Thunderstorms and rain. Cooler tonight. The men sowed some more fo the flax. The Union S.S. picnic was postponed on accouunt of the rain. We took Aunt Barbara down to GRandpa's tonight. Walter went to Creekbank tonight.

26 Sunday. Fine, cool day. We went to church & S.School this morning and went to Alec Wagner's for dinner and to Linebublin's for tea.

27 Monday. Lovely day. The men finished sowing the flax and were plowing buckwheat ground. Ella did her washing and picked a few berries in {Schmidt's bush?} this afternoon. Callers were - Norman miller, Jas. Burge, and Wesley Miller. Vernon went over to Riest's tonight to get the buckwheat and Walter went to Creekbank.

June, 1927

28 Tuesday. Lovely warm day. The men finished plowing the buckwheat grounds. We went to the Alma Presbyterian Garden Party tonight. Bob Wilson and his Co. rendered the programme. Fred Hodgson of Tavistock, champion boy orator of Canada, gave an addres on "Canada." The programme was excellent.

29 Wednesday. Hot weather. The men were working up the buckwheat ground. Walter went to choir practice tonight.

30 Thursday. Hot & sultry. Walter shipped hogs at Elmira this morning. Vernon harvested the buckwheat ground and they sowed the buckwheat this afternoon. Walter went to a finance meeting at church tonight.

July, 1927

1 Friday. Intensely hot (60th Anniversary of Conederation) Vernon shuffled the mangels this morning and went fishing this p.m. Walter & Ella went to the Union S.S. Picnic held in Wright's Grove at Conestogo.

2 Saturday. Not as hot as yesterday. The men were cutting thistles.

3 Sunday. Cloud & cool. We went to Woolwich S.S. and church this morning and this afternoon we went to Heidelberg Children's Day Services. We were at Grandpa Krauter's for tea. Aunt Barbara (Alliance, Alberta), Aunt Fanny (Rochester, N.Y.), Aunt Lizzie (Hamilton) and Aunt Katie (Heidelberg) were there also a lot of other company from Detroit, Hamilton, Naperville, etc.

Born - On July 3, to Mr & Mrs Linch Weaver a daughter - Lila Jean. (Betty)

4 Monday Fine and cool. The men hoed around some of the mangels today and Vernon harrowed the corn this p.m. Ella picked berries in Schwidt's bush this p.m.

5 Tuesday. Lovely day. The men finished the mangels. Walter took grist to Floradale. Ella did washing and picked strawberries.

July, 1927

6 Wednesday. Cloudy & showery. Callers = Frank Brixton, Otto & Norman Miller and Enoch Schneider.

Married - On July 6, at Kitchener, Rev. C.F. Destunie and Miss Mary Ralfs.

7 Thursday. Fine day. Walter shipped hogs today and Vernon rolled the buckwheat. Ella went berry picking in Schmidt's bush this p.m. We went up to Lincoln Weaver's tonight to see the new baby.

8 Friday. Lovely day. Walter cut some sweet clover this forenoon and we all went to the Woolwich S.S. picnic in Schweitzer's field this afternoon.

9 Saturday. Fair. Walter cut some more sweet clover and they were cutting thistles.

10 Sunday.Fine and warm. We went to church & S.School this afternoon and to Floradale Children's Day tonight. Grandpa & Grandma Krauter and Aunt Elizabeth called here this morning.

July, 1927.

11 Monday. Hot Day. Walter cut the rest of the sweet clover and they brought in 7 loads of sweet clover this afternoon. Ella hoe in the garden this morning and picked berries this p.m.

12 Tuesday. Very hot. The men brought in 7 loads of sweet clover. Mildred Weaver spent the day here and she & Ella picked berries this p.m. Tonight we took Mildred home and Aunt Barbara came home with us.

13 Wednesday. Sultry with fierce thunder and rain storms. The men brought in 1 lod of sweet clover, raking, Rev. Ed. Becker was here for dinner. This afternoon we took Aunt Barbara down to Grandpa Krauter's.

14 Thursday. Fair and cloudy. Walter shipped hogs this morning and they made some fence this afternoon. We went up to Lincoln Weaver's tonight.

15 Friday. Showery & sultry. The men got some cabbage plants at Wesley's and planted them.

July, 1927

16 Saturday. Sultry & threatening. The men were drawing manure.

17 Sunday. Showery. We went to church & S.School this morning and to Sim Weavers for supper, also called at Lincoln

18 Monday. Beautiful day. Ella did her washing, also Edna and {illegible}. The men hauled manure all day and finished their field.

19 Tuesday. Perfect day. Walter cut some hay this morning and they were scuffling {roots?} & cow the rest of the day. Ella hoed the garden.

20 Wednesday.Another perfect day. The men finished the scuffling and brought in 5 loads of hay this afternoon. Margie & Helda Hoffman visited Ella today and were here for dinner.

21 Thursday. Fair & Heavy rain tonight. Walter shipped hogs this morning and they brought in 4 loads of hay this afternoon. Ella picked some strawberries in Schwindt's bush. Tonight we went up to Grandpa Krauter's and got some cherries. Ed, Alvin & Aunt Barbara were there.

July, 1927.

22 Friday. Drizzly & showery. The men plowed this morning. Walter went down to Grandpa's this evening and brought Allen, Marie and little Albert home with him.

23 Saturday. Rained practically all day.

24 Sunday. Cloudy, Walter & Vernon went to S.School and church this afternoon and Walter took Allen up to Grandpa Krauter's tonight.

25 Monday. Fair. Ella did her washing and picked berries in Schwindt's bush this p.m. Walter cut some grass this morning and they were plowwing stumps.

26 Tuesday. Sultry. This morning Vernon plowed and Walter was cutting grass. This afternoon they brought in 7 loads of hay.

27 Wednesday.` Sultry. Thunderstorm last night. Walter finished cutting this a.m. and VErnon plowed. This afternoon {Alice?} Reist helped and they brought in 7 loads of hay.

July, 1927

28 Thursday. Sultry & threatening. Waler shipped hogs at Elmiras this a.m. Licoln Weaver came home with him and was here for dinner. They finished up the hay today. Addison REist helped and they brought in 7 loads. Earl & Ella spent the evening here.

29 Friday. Fine cool day. The men were scuffling corn & turnips. Ella picked some raspberries in Reist's bush {illegible}.

30 Saturday. Fine day. The men finished scuffling and hoed some of the mangels. Allen, Marie and little Albert were here for tea.

31 Sunday. Perfect day. We wen to church & S.School this morning and up to Grandpa Krauter's for dinner & supper. They had a Krauter Re-union and there were over fifty people there. The five children - Allen, Edwin, Edna, {Everson?} & Ella were home together for the first time in fiften years.

August, 1927

1 Monday. Changeable. Walter, Ella & Vernon were picking raspberries in Reist's bush this morning. This p.m. they finished hoeing the mangels.

2 Tuesday. Lovely cool day. Ella did her washing and the men were hoeing turnips. Callers - Ernie Bridge, Wm. Stewart & Noah Miller.

3 Wednesday. Lovely day. The men hoed turnips all day and finished them. Ella picked beries in Reist's bush. Our callers tonight - Mr & Mrs. Louis Miller, Mr Arthur Snyder, Wilma & Dorothy of Glen Bay, Ont.

4 Thursday. Fine day. Walter shipped hogs at Elmira and they were plowing. Our visiters tonight - Eph Synder & Arthur Thomas.

5 Friday. Fair. Walter took a load of grist to Floradale this a.m. and started cutting the wheat this afternoon.

6 Saturday. Fine warm day. Walter finished cutting the wheat today and Vernon & Charles {Koeplew?} stocked it. Ella's visitors this afternoon. Esther, Ruth, Margaret and Orpha Miller & Annie Schneider. Annie brought me a crockful of lovely raspberries.

August, 1927.

7 Sunday. Hot and sultry. We went to church & S.School this morning and visited at Sam Reid's today. Colon brought Edith, Roy, Lois and Sonny tonight and they are staying a week.

8 Monday. Hot. Turned cool & windy tonight. Edith & Ella went berry-picking this morning. Walter went to Elmira this morning and they were cutting barley this afternoon.

9 Tuesday. Lovely cool day. Ella did her washing. The men finished cutting the barley this a.m. and were plowing this p.m. Walter, Ella, Edith & Lois went to Creekbank tonight.

10 Wednesday. Lovely day. The men were plowing. We all went up to Tim Weaver's tonight as the group wanted to see Audrey.

11 Thursday. Fine day. Roy % Sonny went to Elmira with Walter. Vernon finished plowing. Mr. {Frauleuther?} moved his threshing mill here.

12 Friday. Hot. {Maurice?} was threshing wheat today and finished about 3 p.m. The following men helped - Enoch & Irvin Schneider, Addison & Harvey Reist, Eph Snyder, Elmo King, Frank {Frauleuther?} and Arthur Tomas. The men helped thresh Enoch Schneider's wheat.

August, 1927. 13 Saturday. Fair. Showers last night Walter helped to thresh at Elmo King this p.m. Colon came up for tea and Edith, Roy, Lois and Sonny went home with him.

14 Sunday. Sultry this morning. Very cool by tonight. We went to church & S.School this morning then went to Charle Holland's near Cometog for dinner & supper. Ella went to Church at Cometog with Charlie & Ida.

15 Monday. Fair and very cool. THe men were scuffling corn & {oats?} today. We were at Louis Miller's tonight.

16 Tuesday. Clear and cool. Walter & Vernon brought in 7 loads of barley today. Ella did her washing.

17 Wednesday. Clear and cool. The men were cutting barley this a.m. and helped to thresh at Eph. Snyder's Edna and her five children visited Ella and were here for tea. Mr. & Mrs. Norman Snider, Mr & Mrs. Harodl Howden, Carol, Elizabeth & Elaine Snider called here tonight.

August, 1927.


18 Thursday. Fair and cool. Walter shipped hogs this a.m. and they were cutting grain this p.m. Norman Snyder's brought Aunt Barbara up here tonight.

19 Friday. Cloudy & dull. The men were cutting & stocking all day.

20 Saturday. Fine and warm. The men were cutting & stocking.

21 Sunday. Ideal deal. Walter, Vernon & Aunt Barbara went to church this morning, to Lincoln Weavers for dinner and Peter Schimcht for tea. Ella went to Belfountain, Erina, Credit Forks, Caledon Hills, etc with {Hilliand?}.

22 Monday. Fair and warm. Walter finished cutting grain today. Walter & Ella took Aunt Barbara down to Emerson's and were there for tea.

23 Tuesday. Dull with rain this p.m. Walter & Vernon were threshing at Enoch's today. Mr. Louis Miller visited Ella this p.m. and stayed for tea. We were at an ice cream feed at Harvey Schmidt's tonight.

August, 1927.

24 Wednesday. Fair and quite cool. The men were threshing at Enoch's this p.m. Beulah Hilliard & Ethel Burlingame of Buffalo, N.Y. visited Ella and were here for tea.

25 Thursday. Fair and cool. Walter shipped hogs this a.m. and helped to thresh at Addison Reist's this p.m. Vernon helped all day. Eva Schneider visited Ella this afternoon.

26 Friday. Fair and cool. The men were stocking. Clifford Snider of {Creemore?} got a truck load of wheat this afternoon.

27 Saturday. Fair. The men helped to thresh at Addison Reist's till about 3:30p.m. Eph. Synder & Arthur {Threm?} helped to stock here the rest of the afternoon and were here for tea.

28 Sunday. Cloudy & cool. We went to S.S this morning. Our company - Mr & Mrs. Clinton Holme, Reta, Wilma and Hilda & Mrs. Sattler of Waterloo.

29 Monday. Dull & drizzly. Walter took grist to Floradale. F. Fairweather moved {her?} {illegible} here tonight.

30 Tuesday. Dull & Drizzly. Vernon rolled the wheat grounds.

31 Wednesday. Manure threshed help - F. Fairweather, Mr. Martin, Eph. Snyder, Art Thomas, Enoch & Irwin Schmeid, Addison & Harvey Reist & Elmo King.

September, 1927.

1 Thursday. Lovely warm day. We threshed all day and had the same help as yesterday, also Earl Miller and Lorne Reist.

2 Friday. Warm. The men helped to thresh at Enoch Schneider's all day.

3 Saturday. Threatening. The men helped to thresh at Elmo King's all day

4 Sunday. Beauitful cool day. Walter, & Vernon went to church & S.S this morning. Our company - Mr & Mrs. Thomas Young. Ethel, Helen, Clifforn & Donald all of Durham, Ont. We were at Grandpa Maurer's for tea.

5 Monday. Lovely & cool. The men helped to thresh at Eph. Snyder's all day. Ella & Paul went to Toronto today with {But?} & Charlie. Milton took us down to Hilland's and we had our dinner there and had our supper at the Sanitary Cafe on Yonge St. We went to the Uptown Threatre tonight. "Hula".

6 Tuesday. Fine & warmer. Ella & Pearl spent the day at the exhibition.

7 Wednesday. Hazy & warm. We took a boat trip to Lewiston and came back to HIllard tonight.

September, 1927

8 Thursday. Lovely day. Ella came home from Elmira with Walter today. Vernon was drawing manure. Enoch & Irwin Schneider visited us tonight.

9 Friday. Fair the men finished drawing out manure.

10 Saturday. Hot. Shower at noon. The men were going plowing.

11 Sunday. Fine cool day. We went to church & S.School this a.m. Mr & Mrs. Clayton Schiefer, Bruce & Glen were here for dinner. Mr & Mrs. Addison Reist, Percy, Edgar, Alma, Vera & Cedella Reist were here for supper. Mr & Mrs. Oscar Schielitz called after supper also Eph. Snyder.

12 Monday. Beautiful day. Walter went to the Elmiras monthly Fair and got his feathers at Alma. Vernon were rolling & harrowing. Our company for tea - Mr & Mrs. Jacob Manner and Miss Clara Klemmer of Clifford, Ont and Lillian Manner & Harvey B.Williams of Detroit, Mch.

13 Tuesday. Lovely day. Walter got his wheat at Grandpa Maurer's and stayed for dinner. Our company for tea - Mr. Arthur Cragg and Julia of Fergus, Ont.

September, 1927

14 Thursday Wednesday. Sultry. Walter sowed the wheat. We went to the opening of the new wing at the Creamery tonight. The program was so good and the ice cream excellent.

15 Thursday. Very hot and sultry. Walter shipped hogs this a.m. They were plowing.

16 Friday. Hot. The men were plowing.

17 Saturday. Sultry. Walter took a load of grist to Floradale. Vernon went fishing with Colon & Ray. They were all here for tea.

18 Sunday. Hot & threatening. We went to church & S.School. Ezra, Berta & Vera {Fowing?} were here for tea.

19 Monday. Cold & windy. Showery WE went to the School fair at Alma this afternoon. We went to Otto Miller's for supper. The evening was cold.

20 Tuesday. Coldy & Windy. Showers. Walter & Ella went to kitchener today had their dinner at Hilland and supper at Jefferson.

21 Wednesday. Fine cool day. The men plowing. Walter went to practice & prayer meeting tonight.

22 Thursday. Cool. Walter shipped hogs. Vernon was cultivating. Walter went to Elmira. {Memmosuite?} church with Eph. Snyder's tonight.

September, 1927.

23 Friday. Cold. Walter cut the buckwheat and Vernon plowed. Walter went to church with Eph.

24 Saturday. Hard frost last night. No damage done here. Walter dug post holes and Vernon plowed. We went over Ezra's to see Bert. She had her {toneilo?} out last night.

25 Sunday. Fair. We went to church & S.S today. Mr & Mrs. ALbert Krauter were here for dinner. We were at {Ges?}. Schwindt for supper.

26 Monday. Fair. The men plowed. Israel Lichty fixed the roof on the house.

27 Tuesday. Dull, measly, foggy day. Grandpa Maurer was here all day and helped to stretch some wire fence. Vernon helped cut corn at {S.Berts?}.

28 Wednesday. Heavy rain this morning. We went to the school fair at Winterbourne also called on {Allie?}.

29 Thursday. Dull. Thunderstorms & heavy rain this afternoon. Walter shipped hogs and Vernon plowed. Max & Louis {Buineaw?} were here for supper.

30 Friday. Very windy. Walter helped cut corn at Earl's until the cutting {boy broke?}. Clarence. Beans of Kitchener was here for dinner.

7 Friday Thunderstorm & heavy rain last night. Showery & drizzly today. Vernon & Walter helped cut corn at Elmo King's this afternoon.


8 Saturday. Fine cool day. They finished cutting corn at King and started here before 11. and finished tonight. Our help - Frank Fairweather Jack Martin, {alf?}. Shantz, Art Thomas, Elmo King, Howard, Hoffer, Walter Adler, Sam Bird, Harvey Reist & Otto Miller

9 Sunday. Beautiful a.m. Drizzly p.m. We went to church and S. School this morning and to Elmira S.S. Rally this afternoon, went to {norma Snider?} for tea and to the W. M. S. Rally Vernon spent the evening at Enoch Schnieder's.


10 Monday Fair and cool. Ella washed this morning and the men plowed. This afternoon we went to Kitchener to do some shopping and had our tea with {Mr.?} Hoffman at Bridgeport.

11 TuesdayFine day. Walter & Vernon helped to take up potatoes all day at grandpa Maurer's.

12 Wednesday. Showers all day. {name?} got soaked twice. Ella shelled beans

13 Thursday.Cold & showery. Ella finished shelling the beans. Walter shipped hogs. Vernon plowed all day.

14 Friday Cold & cloudy. The men plowed all day. Ella cleaned the cellar.

15 Saturday. Fine. Vernon helped to saw wood at Earl's this forenoon. We took up the potatoes today. Our company for tea - Mr. & Mrs. Frank Hamel, {Sonny?}, Betty & {name?} & Ray Jefferson and Mervin Smith of Kitchener.

16 Sunday. Cold & fine. We went to church & S.School this p.m. and went to grandpa Krauter's for supper. Vernon went to League Rally at Floradale with Irvin

17 Monday. Cold & clear. Ella did her washing. Walter cut the rest of the {flax?}. This pm. Vernon took a load of {flax?} to Floradale and Walter took grist. Ella dug her gladiolus and dahlia roots.

18 Tuesday. Fine. Walter took a load of flax to Floradale this a.m. Vernon plowed all day. Walter & Ella took Annie Schneider along the County S.S. {name?} we had our tea at Angus Weber's.

19 Wednesday. Cold & windy. Walter & noah miller went to guelph this morning and noah was here for dinner. Walter took another load of flax to Floradale this p.m. Vernon plowed

20 Thursday. Cold & windy. Walter shipped hogs.Ella went as far as Milton {name?} with him. and they were there for dinner. Lincoln, Edna, Doris, Howard, & Lila were here for dinner & supper.

21 Friday. Clody, cold & windy. The men topped the mangels Walter & Ella went to League & {name?}

22 Saturday. Fine and milder. The men brought in the mangel. 8 big loads today.

23 Sunday. Beautiful day. we had our S.S. Rally & Harvest Home at {Woolwich?} and the church was crowded. Bishop Seager of La Mars, Iowa and RW. Guenther of Alguin spoke. The Bridgeport Orchestra finished the music. Our company for tea - Mr % Mrs Isreal Shoemaker, Ella, Angus, Isaac, Clarence & Cecil, Mr. & Mrs. Ezra Maurer, Mr. & Mrs. Norman Snider, Mr. & Mrs. Wm. Hahn and Isaac Lachman.

24 Monday . Wonderful day. Ella did her washing. The men were topping turnips.

25 Tuesday. Another perfect day. The men brought in 8 loads of turnips today. Ella was at a [illegible} at Egra [name?}

26 Wednesday. Fine and mild. The men brought in 9 loads of turnips today. Ella cleaned three rooms upstairs and made mincemeat.

27 Thursday Fine and sunny. Walter shipped hogs. They brought in 7 loads of turnips. We had the beef ring meeting here tonight and a fairly good crowd.

28 Friday. Fine and somewhat cooler. They brought in the last load of turnips. Vernon & Walter butchered a pig at Henry {name?}.

29 Saturday. Cloudy. Vernon plowed. Walter helped to thresh at Elmo King's for a {few hours?}

30 Sunday. Cloudy & raw. We went to S.School and prayer meeting. Our company for dinner - Mr. & Mrs. Leon Wagner, {Elders?}, Ruby and Gordon Wagner and Norman Miller. We went to the League Rally tonight. Ruth Schmidt won the oratorical contest. Laura Miller & Irvin Scmidt also {spoke?} Rev. G. Epp of Cleveland, Ohio gave an excellent {address?}


31 Sunday. Fair and Milder. Walter helped finish Elmno's threshing this morning. Vernon plowed. Elam Weber and his {illegible} were our callers tonight.
