W. 12th. Paid Fritz. Willing Six Dolrs & a half for thrashing pease & wheat. Let. Robert have One hundred & twenty five Dolrs for which I took his note due a year hence with Six per cent Int. Robert agreed with Duncan Currie is to build him a barn which is not to be surpassed in Saugeen for the sum of One hundred and twenty Dolrs half Fifty Dolrs to be paid down when the lumber is got out and the balance when the barn is finished . Currie is to get out the lumber from {cut off} and cover it and lay the thrashing floor.

Total indebtedness of the family of Leeders on the old Family account $1971.00. N.E. Leeders share $763.00. Robert P. Leeders share $699.00. P.H. Leeders share $509. Of the amount N.E. Leeder has paid $1291.00 or 528.00 above his share, therefore he has paid on Roberts share $306.00. and on P. H. Leeders $222.00. Over and above what is paid there remains $680.00 yet to pay this divided between Robert and Philip leaves Robert still indebted $394.00 and Philip $286.00

Hauling 40 Bags of wheat to Lake for L & Ruby at a cent & half per Bag. Philip gave me a Deed of his place in trust, and me and my wife have bound ourselves our heirs or ?assimeess? that upon his paying us what is our just due for improvements or other such moneys as are paid out by us, for his good that we or they will or shall give him a Deed of the land again. Witnessed his will in case of his death. Sent H. Hilker 100 Dolrs. at 12 per ct. till Sep. next or before & received his Note. Paid Shantz his sawng a/c from last winter of $2.16 cts. 4 B . of Peas to Saml. Bricker.
on John MacCullochs A/C. 78 lbs of Peas to CH Schwend. this pay him for the corn I had of him last winter Let Henry Hilker have $100.10 at 12 per cent p annum. till 1st of Sep. Paid Benjamin Shantz $2.15 cts this being his account against me for sawing sleigh timber

T. 1st. Myself Paid J.C. Currie 63.30 Dolrs on Note for Oxen and received the Note. this makes the oxen mine nothing to do with P.
W. 2nd. 1/2 day Self and Oxen hauling B. lumber for Robert.
T 4th. Fred Welling commenced chopping for me by the day in the Gore at five yorkers per day. 1 day Self & Oxen for Robert. Catherine Salter came to live with us this morning.
S. 5th. Paid Messrs. Lehnen & Ruby on Philips A/C $28.90, this was a Note Philip had given Mr Delf
Th. 3rd. Paid John Zant 10 Dolrs. Nine Dolrs. of which is for Mothers cow. and one Dolr. he owes me. Self & Oxen 1 day to Roberts.
Dated Janry 31st 1862 and due two months after date bearing six per cent Interest: Received from John Zant One Dolr. this is a Dolr. I over paid him when I paid him for the cow. Agreed with John Kennedy for a wagon I am to pay 75 Dolrs. cash down and five cords of wood next winter also one cord of wood for a barrow he is to mend for me. Fred Welling had a day.

M 7th. Paid James George Two Dolrs. 11/2 of which is for Sis Lizzies shoes. Settled with John Goble to this date His A/C. against me & Robert £ 20. 3.8d. Mine against him £5.6.5d Paid him in full. I give Robert credit for s. 11 4d. for a crock of Lard. Settled with Messrs. MacLachlin Their A/C against me $10.10 cts mine $9.71 cts. Paid them full. To the credit of Philip on MacLac hlins A/C $1.33 cts. Also on Philips A/C received of Laur. Campbell Leather half a Dolrs worth Feed Welling 1 day. Paid to the Agricultural Society of Saugeen. Six Bushls pease to Kepkie at 621/2=3.75 cts. of this. Recvd 2 Dolrs.

Th. 10th. Fred one day. Traded my light plow chain for the chain Rob. got of Philip. I must allow him 1.25 cts of the price of the wheel barrow.

S. 12th. Fred 1 day. Paid the postage on the New Jeru. Magazine 24 cts. Traded my plow off to MacLachlin for another I have paid him three and a half Dorls. to boot. I am to have the new plow nest Wednes. Bought Two Caves for four Dolrs of Mr. J. D. David I have to pay 28 lbs of Oats of Robert this makes him and me right on our Oat A/C.

M. 14th. Bought a cow of James Stuart for which I have given a Note at Eight months for $14. Bought of Fred a small pockett book a york shilling 1/2 a day helping Robert to lay out plowing. Fred W. 1 day.
T. 15th. Fred 1 day. Bought shot belt & powder horn of Fred for 1 Dolr.

Thu. 17th. Fred 1 day. Settled with Fred for 111/2 days at 5 yorkers per day=$7. 19 cts. paid. Received from Kepkie per L & R $1.75 cts. this is the balance he was due me on the peas. Lent Brother Fred $4.00.

Agreed with Samuel Reother to prune, wash, and stake the apple trees in his orchard, for which he gives me the produce of the land and trees in the orchard also the use of the House and garden rent free. Fetched my plow from MacLachlins. And my wheel barrow from Kennedys three yorkers to pay.
S.19th. Traded Loging chains with Ben. Hilker. Paid James Stuart the 49 lbs of flour I borrowed of him sometime since. Our new cow calved.

Killed the calf that came of the cow I bought of Stuart Mr Goble Butchered it.
F. 30th Mr John Goble took the veal to Southampton and sold it for $3.49 cts. the forty nine cents he took for his own trouble and paid me the 3 Dolrs.

I am to have the land ready for him to commence on by the middle of July and he agrees to have the land ready by the first of September or forfeit the half Dolr on each acre. I pay him on the first of September if the job is completed or if not when completed. I board him.

W. 23rd. Agreed with Duncan Currie to enclose and shingle and lay the floor of Roberts barn for the sum of Twenty five Dolrs. Made an agreement with Duncan Currie to build me the Frame of a house after the following description. Length 36 feet. Breadth 20 feet. Heighth 14 feet in Post. Too be a partition through the centre from side to side the whole heighth of the house The windows and doors to be left as I may direct when the timber is ready for framing. The Posts to be of Black Oak or Red Beach.
The sills of some durable timber. The sleepers of cedar. The frame to be a good Substantial one and finished all ready for Siding Roofing & flooring. I am to find the joists of sawn timber also Rafters and sheds of the same. The sleepers are to be two feet apart the joists & Rafters eighteen inches from centre to Centre. I find board for him and his hands. The Frame to be ready by the 15th. of September . James Davidson 56 lbs of Flour.

Th. 2nd. Raised a frame house on Philips Lot. Paid John Eby $1.75 cts. for Cradle. Paid Nettles $2.621/2 cts. on James Davidsons A/C. Robert & his oxen all day. The above named A/C of James Davidson was charged to him before in a settlement we had.
F. 3rd Forty Dollars woth of pine lumber of Henry Hilker for siding Doors windows to which has to be paid for by new years. I have given a Note for the above mentioned amount. Currie, Duncan has done all he intends at the frame and has given me the job of finishing it for the sum of two Dolrs. I paid him Twenty Five Dollrs on the work so that I owe him Eighteen Dolrs. still. Robert & Oxen half day to saw mill for me.

S. 8th Lent Rob ert 441/2 lbs of Flour on a new A/C. He and having kept no A/C of flour between us agreed to call it even and commenced anew.

M. 10th. Commenced pulling turnips. Received from Joh Zant 31 Dollars being principal and Interest in a Note I held against him date 20th of June of the present year,

W 7th. This afternoon Eby thrashed Roberts Oats. I charge this to Robert.
Th. 8th Received of Robert MacLachlin and his partner Mr Murton the Sum of Twenty Eight Dolrs this is part payment of a Note for the Sum of Thirty Dollrs which has been running Eight months with ten per cent Interest so that I have two Dolrs and the interest still due me.

W. 20th. Thrashing with the same teams and hands as yesterday finished by noon. of this day and a half Robert is responsible for three quarters of a day. This afternoon attended a meeting in Port Elgin for the purpose of organizing a Volunteer Infantry Company. Robert, Fred, and myself joined.

Leeder he is to have the land ready for croping by the first of Sept. and to wait for his wages till the crop can be marketed in the fall of 1864.
