Bronte 1889 10 {circled} Tues.

Jan 1st.. New Years day. very warm; mild day, busy all A.M. In P. M. called for Bertha D. to go for a skate on creek but thot it hardly safe so gave it up then tho't we would try the basin so we went and she stayed on edge, broke through & got her feet wet, so went back & got permission to go on river so we went had a splendid skate quite a large crowd on ice. Bertha skated with Walter J. & I with F. Horning Went up & had tea & had an invitation to spend eve, at Mrs W. but I declined but B. went & I came home met Dave K & he came back with me & we had a very pleasant eve. Arthur B. called & we Had cider oranges, grapes, chestnuts etc. They went at 12. & Ida & I dreampt on Man Belyeas wedding cake which Dave & Arthur tied up for us.

It is over 2 months since I last wrote in diary & great many changes have taken place, Through November we had revival meetings in our church & Dave K Arthur B & Bertha D. all got converted & have become very much changed. By those meetings I realized much goodness and learned to try & help those who are retrying to help themselves. I got better acquainted with Dave & began to look upon him as a brother.

Through December we were busy getting up a tea-meeting for the benefit of S.S. Had C. O. Johnston to lecture at tea-meeting which was held on 9th.. Dec. Hadn't a very large crowd but made over $40. It was a lovely night. - Dave Bertha & I were waiters at one table and Ida Charlotte & Arthur B. at another & Annie, Ada B. & Ed. Blanchard at the centre table Six of us went over to church to-gether & sat up in front. Xmas day passed very quitely with out either skating or sleighing was at home all day. Started to write to Frank but Dave & Arthur came & Archie S here we cracked butter nuts & played games had a lively evening after all.

Sun 23rd.. before Xmas Joe B. came down to church & he & Dave walked up road together & come in for tea Archie S also. Dave so comical kept us all laughing. Max C. called & all in parlor talking they all went at 10.30. I gave Joe B. a shaving tidy.

On Mon 24th.. E.M. drove a load of us up to M P. Xmas tree. 2 from Brays & A. I & I & Arthur B. Joe B. there he took us to a slat. E.M. & Jane sat beside Joe B. & I. I got a nice plush perfume bottle off tree, Had a nice programme & tree. Got home at 12. Saw Mr. Jeeter there he gave a speech. All through Xmas hollidays it very quiet. Frid eve Arthur B. drove Ida up to Appleby litterary society entertainment. Sat eve Annie C. came from Toronto over Sun.

Wed 2nd.. Busy all day Ida making a dress for her self just finished one for Annie & she went to Toronto on {?} evening train with Annie C.

Thur 3rd.. Jan / 89. So busy all day In evening Gertie Alton Wolsley, George, Philus & Mr Pond there cousin from {Naeple?} all came down to spend the eve. We sang played cards & had violin music with mouth organ till 12.

Frid 4th.. Very warm day up to 50. haven't had scarcely any cold weather yet this winter. Annie bo't me a dress & expressed it up & girls making it for expect to go to a wedding next weak. Ah! it has come at last the long looked for, wedding. The day is set for the 9th.. Jan to be E.M. wedding day to Jane Bray. therefore we have so much sewing to do as had rather short notice. Felt rather {timid? tired?}

Sat 5th.. Got through work by noon & getting dress fitted when Mandia H. called. Blondie had a tea party in Pa's bed room, May Mc & Artie & Mandia's little errand girl are at party. It rainy Arthur B. called in eve.

Sun 6th.. It raining but M.L. & I went to SS Hadn't any S.S. but sang & Mr Stuart talked to scholars. Bertha played for church & M.L. Dave K & I in choir. Not many to church B. or D. didn't stay for after meeting so when I was walking home B. called me over to go in but I declined Dave came out & we came up road togeter He came in for tea & we had a sing but didn't he said he was going to church but changed

his mind & we had a pleasant eve sitting on sofa in parlor We had chest-nuts & apples & talked till 11 Tho't it would be out last sun eve in parlor for awhile so took the good of it.

Mon 7th.. Bertha D came up in P.M. & stayed till 5. had a good sing Annie came home on noon train & bro't new music so we trying it. I walked home with her & went on errand for Pa. E.M. went to Hamilton & came back Tuesday.

Tues. 8th.. Jan / 89. Recd parcel from M.G. to E.M. for wedding P. box of common knives & forks & silver knives also & carving knives A. bo't lot of present up from Toronto for E.M. No singing till 10.30

Wed 9th.. Raining all day steady an awful day for E.M.'s wedding day. We all getting ready. E.M. M.W. & Blondie drove over 1st.. Then Tommy (our man) drove democrat & us girls & Pa went Got there in good time, ceremony not until about 4 O'clock Just Blanchards Clines & us folks. Then Archie S & Charlotte stood up with them. No one seemed to feel as bad as they did at Sarahs wedding. Jane got some very pretty present. Had a richly laden table of almost every thing imaginable. Just finished tea & got on things & drove to station. E.M. Jane & I in 1st.. buggy then Archie S. Annie & Charlotte then Ada Ida & Ed. Blanchard behind. It dreadful muddy. We just showered them with rice. Had to wait half hr for train I drove Ida home, & Annie went back to Brays & spent evening.

Thurs 10th.. Very blustry day with snow. Us house cleaning & busy all day.

Frid 11th.. P.M. out cleaning carpet when Dave rode in on horseback & had quite a chat. He went to P.O. & bro't our male back

& when he gave me the mail he put out his foot & said philopean. Mrs Williams called in P.M. Gave Dave a piece of E.M. wedding cake.

Sat 12th.. Lovely day busy all day preparing for wedding couple. I went to P.O. & Dave walked down with me & back then Annie & I went over & called on Man Belyea. E.M. & Jane came on 7 train. {home?} they came from Woodstock.

Sun 13th.. Lovely day went to S.S. stayed for church Mr Yorston preached. I walked up road with Mr McGillvey. Charlotte B. called to see Jane. Archie S. hear for tea. Before got work done Philus came. Us having a good sing when Joe B. rapped. Was rather surprised Annie got talking to Joe about Camfield. I got playing & singing with Philus. He went at 10.30 & Archie & Joe went about 11, "said we would have a settlement B4 long."

Mon 14th.. Lovely day Jane & E.M. went over to Brays in P.M. Philus came down to go to Baptist tea-meeting to help us girls sing. So had tea then a little practise & we went Pa us 3 girls & Philus. Had quite a crowd. Had a splendid programme. Made $33.75. Had quite a procession coming across side walk. Dave & Bertha, Ida & Arthur, Philus & I. Annie & Archibald Philus & I stood on stoop & talked for quite a while then went in house & got warm & talked at door till after 12. Couldn't make a very decided agreement. It 1 O'clock.

Tues 15th.. Jan / 89. Us washing S & Alf down all day. Had been down for 3 week. S never knew about EMs wedd.

Wed 16th.. I making petticoat E.M. & Jane hear. It raining in P.M. Ida E.M. & Jane drove to Oakville. Had music on violin & organ.

Thur 17th.. Jan / 89. E.M. Jane & Annie drove up to Alf's.

Frid 18th.. M.W. & I washing very busy all day. M.W. drove M.L. up to station. Then she drove over to Brays. Emma came back with her & I going to walk to P.O. with Emma when Bertha D. came. So I went & came back & had a nice time with " " Mr Kennedy came as Pa was eating tea then B. & I had ours then Jane & E.M. came & had theirs. Dave called to tell his father to go home for company their. Then Archie S. came Then Ida & Geo Williams came Geo wanted me to go skating so Bertha & I went The ice just lovely only us there on ice Had a jolly time got home at 11.

Sat 19th.. Very busy all day putting up to coal stove. Afa & Emma B. called so Ada & I went & called for Bertha & us all skating ice just lovely quite a crowd on ice. When got home Arthur B. here. Geo walked up with us. Arthur talked till 12.

Sun 20th.. It stormy Mr Kettlewell preached missionary meeting for Mr Stuart. Not very many out. John Dotty drove Mr K up to our place for tea Mr S. also. Had a sing. Then us all alone the rest of evening. Went to bed early.

Mon 21st.. Jan / 89. Done washing. Arthur B. called to invite us to Oyster Supper.

Tues 22nd.. M.W. went to Toronto. I drove Ida over to Dan Brays to go to supper. So he called B.4. going for Bertha & asked me what to do so he tossed copper to see if she should go so he went & they called for me. Had a lovely time. Just us there at Dan B with Arthur. Had supper then Arthur washed dishes & Dave helped wipe & we had a jolly time Had nuts & taffy & sang & laughed till 12. It moon light coming home.

Wed 23rd.. Dan came over in morn & I cleaning windows & he talked to me then he came in & helped peal potatoes Then he went out & was going but talked till dinner was ready so came in and ate dinner. Then went down to see Janes presents & talked all P.M. till 5. telling me his trouble about B.D. his father etc. I went to bed at 10.30 Archie S came & He & I went to teachers meeting only 6 their.

Thur 24th.. Had callers to see Jane. Harry, Gusy & Charlotte Bray. It lovely day. Arthur & Dave came & us had a big sing. They stayed till 11.30.

Frid 25th.. Jan Done churning & got through. Then after dinner Jane E.M. & I drove up to Burlington It lovely day then went to Will Clines for tea. They sent over for Kate Blanchard & we had a nice time just through tea when Will Alton came for Kate to go to Litterary meeting but didn't go we Had violin music & stayed till 10.30 Had a nice time. Got home at 11.

Sat 26th.. Hurly burly to get E.M. breakfast to go to Toronto on 1st train. Jane went over home & took Blondie all day. We got through work and E.M. came home for tea. John Forfar with him. Intended going to temperance lecture but to late. I sang then went to bed 10.

Sun 27th.. / 89. Jan. It very stormy. went to S.S. sang in choir stayed for church. Called in Berthas a little while. Ida & E.M. & Jane went over home for tea. Us all alone just going to write a letter when Dave & Arthur came through storm. Had a good sing till 10.30. Then Dave went to get his coat on & Ida took him in pantry then Arthur & I went in other pantry & had cookies etc. then I made ginger tea & it 12 B.4 they went.

Mon 28th.. A & I washed I went to bed 7.30.

Tues 29th.. Lovely sleighing. Mr & Mrs Williams called on Jane Arthur B called through & asked us to go for sleigh ride up to Alfs I upstairs talking out of window to him He & Dave called for us at 6.30. Johnie F. & Ida & I went called for Bertha & Geo Williams. Had mouth organ & singing all the way. It 8.30 when got there. S & A just going to bed so had to "fire up" once more & we stayed till 1 O'clock. Had splendid time. Dave & Geo kept us laughing all the time. It 2.30 when got home.

Wed 30th.. Baking & ironing very busy Annie & Will came off noon train to go to Viola Curtis wedding. I went to bed & slept from 2 till 4. Our Annie went also to wedding. I writing to bed. 9.

Thur 31st.. Jan. Stormy. Meals all hrs. Annie & Will went home on noon train. Jane & E.M. went to Oakville I went to P.O. Mr & Mrs Cline & Kate Blanchard came for tea & evening. Had a nice time it 10. when they left.

Frid 1st.. Afa & Charlotte B. called in P.M. I rode over to Annies B. to see if Arthur would take a load up to literary. Arthur came along when I was there & I got a ride home. Geo W. in sleigh coming home from School so he drove through our place. Said that he tho't he would take

team & load so he came along & got our sleighs & called at Brays & got Ada & Ida Annie Johnie F & I went & we called for Bertha & Frank & Arthur drove, got there a little late. School house full talking to Will Alton he & Kate B. there. Joe B. there came & told me Frank W. was home I so surprised said he would bring him down Sat P.M. They had a debate on "Resolved that circumstances tend more to success than ability." Horace W. one debater. The Ability won by 2 points. Had mouth organ music got home ay 12. Ada stayed all night here.

Sat 2nd.. Feb / 89 The sun shone for old Bear to see his shadow, but stormy. E.M. & Jane went to H. & took Blondie us 3 girls to do work oh so busy till 3 P.M. Joe B. & Frank drove up. My it seemed good to see Franks face one more time but I rather disappointed because he doesnt look as well as he did when he went away. He seemed taller. They here for tea & didn't stay only until 8. Had a little singing.

Sun 3rd.. Feb / 89. It lovely day. Hurrying around for to go to church it quarterly meeting. Coal stove went out & I had to light it. Quite a lot on. Frank Ed & Horace there. Expected F & Joe down for dinner but didn't come in. Only had Archie for dinner. It 2 when got home. Had a nap. Then Archie & Annie went to Palermo church. E.M. & Jane went home. Arthur B. called & took Ida to Oakville church. I went to be at 9.

Mon 4th.. Busy washing until 3. Went to P.O. & called in to see B.

Tues 5th.. Rather mild turned very cold suddenly. Archie S came & he & Annie went for drive to Oakville.

Wed 6th.. 4 below zero. Dave called & cracked butter nuts & Ida painting he daubed my face & I did his. I writing in this.

Thur 7th.. Feb / 89. S. & Alf. came down for dinner & took Ida back with them.

Frid 8th.. Men here, cutting wood. Arthur B. asked Annie & I to go to M.P. tea-meeting. So we went sat behind Frank & Dave Had a splendid time. Church full. Didn't get much supper. Oakville choir sang. It very hot, when got home 12.

Sat 9th.. Annie went to Toronto. Jane & I had men to get dinner for. E. M. & Jane drove to Oakville in P.M. It 3 when got through work. Will Giles & Mr McGilvery bo't home dishes Then Frank came. Annie came home & bo't new games so we playing till 9.30.

Sun 10th.. Feb. Lovely day, E.M. drove Jane, Annie, Johnie, & I up to M.P. church. Mr Stuart preached on text "I can do all thing through Christ which strengtheneth me." Frank drove home with us & we got dinner & went to SS. Stayed for church & class. A. F. & I got a drive up home with Kennedy's Archie S. & Frank & Joe hear for tea. Had a good sing & Archie played on violin Joe waited for Archie to get a ride home it 12 when went.

Mon 11th.. Feb. F. hear. washing done at dinner time.

Tues 12th.. Baking. Jane & E.M. went home for tea. A over to see Edith Had a song in evening.

Wed 13th.. / 89. E.M. & Jane started for Michigan on noon train F. & I drove up to Street, met Joe going to draw ice. Had tea at S. then we started for Appleby tea-meeting. Got a good seat. church full made $76.77. Ida Philus & Gertie there. Arthur B. & Charlotte B. Joe was waiter with C. Bumby. It lovely night but cold. Got home at 12.30

Thur 14th.. Valentine day. John drove F. home. A & I alone. Emma Belyea called in P.M. Then Dave K. hear for tea. Pa all out of sorts scolding all day thinks we don't look after things properly. To bed 9.

Frid 15th.. Feb / 89. Annie & I hear alone. A went to P.O. Dave called to see about going to literary. intended taking a load bu Pa wouldn't let one of our horses go so Dave said he would contrive a rig of his own to go if that would suit me, he would call at 6.30 he & his friend Miss Jackson so they came & I went Pa tried to frighten us by saying it was going to storm by didn't see any storm that night. Got there in good time Joe, Frank, Philus Ida & Gertie there. Palermo finished the programme. Had a splendid time. Miss Jackson rather a nice girl. We made arrangements to go up to hill & sleigh ride next night. Got home 11.30.

Sat 16th.. Rather busy. M.L. came home on 6 train. It raining through the day so couldn't go sleigh riding at night.

Sun 17th.. Feb. Went to SS. Alf & S. down for dinner. I cam home from SS. & layed down & had a nap when Arthur B. came he drove me home from SS. then drove back for his folks & came in again. Wanted me to go to Oakville church but I expected Joe down to take me so he didn't come by 8 so I went to bed & Arthur B came & stayed till 10.

Mon 18th.. Stormy. sunny most all day.

Tues 19th.. Washing It blustry day Dave & Miss Jackson came I playing when they came lit fire & we played cards then Had a short sing & I gave them cake & they went at 11.30.

Wed 20th.. Got work done & went to store in cutter then went to over to see Edith Mitchell. stayed quite a while she looks very tired. Archie S came & A went for a drive.

Thurs 21st.. / 89. Pa cleaning stove pipe & I cleaning room. very busy all day. Emily Triller & her father came then C. Bray. Annie & C. went to church & sing for childs funeral Mrs Lands Ella called. M.W. came home. I very tired done baking after got through cleaning.

Frid 22nd.. Feb /89 Rather stormy. Snowing. In P.M. (Tommy our man) drove M.W. Annie & Jny to Sarah's to get Ida. Got back at 6. left Annie & bro't Ida. It very cold Mrs Foster here stayed all night.

Sat 23rd.. baking all A.M. Mrs Foster went home on 5 train. Dave called. It very cold below zero. Ida getting ready to go to Scarboro on Mon.

Sun 24th.. Feb. / 89. Went to S.S. & church sat in choir Bertha played Dave K went home with B. then he came up to our place for tea. Josh Hixon called to see if Pa would be pall bearer for his mother's funeral on Mon. 25th.. Joe came while he hear so had Dave & Joe for tea. Then Dave went directly after tea. Ida & I done the dishes. Two Marias went over to Hixons Joe talked to Pa until we done work. Then Joe & I went down in parlor after while heard bells. It was Philus Alton so Ida let him in. I had to go out for wood so spoke to him. But shortly Ida & Philus came down had a good sing then came out in room & talked until Archie & Annie came he went up to Stret for Annie. She said I had to go to Street so I got ready & went Joe drove with Archie to the top of hill then he got in our cutter. It dreadfully cold. Philus gave me his shawl to put around me. Had a great talk going up . It 1 Oclock Joe had to wake Alf up to get in.

Mon 25th.. Nice day but cold. Alf went to Hamilton to help with ice.

Tues 26th.. Philus came over in evening & S. had him instead of Alf.

Wed 27th.. Feb. S & I went over to Mr J. Altons in P.M. Stev. & Mary Ezard. there & baby. Had oysters for tea. got home early Neil Alton came in evening & helped {mind?} off yard until 11.

Thur 28th.. / 89. Just got dressed when who should drive up but Frank & Joe. Had a lively P.M. They played checkers. Philus & Gertie called to take us up to P.O. for a drive so S. went & I stayed with

boys. They snow balling one another. Had tea. then F. & Joe went over to Mr McCarleys till 8. Gertie & Philus came he played on mouth organ & I on Jew harp then Gertie blew horn for boys & they hurried over. We played games & passed candies. Had magic music. Had puzzle & F. trying to sell tickets for concert It 11. when they went. I couldn't get a private word to Joe at all. Philus asked me to go to literary (after they went) over at Palermo.

Frid 1st.. March / 89. Lovely day. Philus called in P.M. then came along in evening & I went over to Palermo with him. Just in time to get a good seat behind Applyby crowd. Horace W. took a load of 20. Bumbys Joe, Woods, Lucy Matthew man & F. sat with Lucy, & Joe beside Miss Husband & Miss Wood. The programme pretty good. It closed at 10. Arthur & Dave there. Snowing a little when going home. A big pig crossed in front of us going home. Had a great talk going home. It 12. when got home. He came to the conclusion that he would quit so left it at that.

Sat 2nd.. Just going to paint floor when Gertie & Philus called for me to go to choir to practise & I ran in S. bedroom & he ran after me so I changed dress & went. It at Mrs Springers. Had a lovely time got acquainted with Mr & Miss Gunby Mr Watson & Miss Laura & Emily Springer & Miss Wilson Croft. It 10.30 when got home Last sleigh ride of the season.

Sun 3rd.. March. Lovely day. S & Alf drove to Bronte & I kept house. Max & Wes Curtis called. P.M. I had a nap. folks got back at 5. Had tea & went "over home" & had a sing. Then talking. Mrs Alton heard I was at Mrs J. Sherwoods oyster supper which Joe got up, & she teasing me. Philus walked home with me & had to both walk on on path, rather close

together I tho't. Had another talk he wanted to take back what was said Frid. eve but I didn't say I would. He let his feeling grow to quick, said he would have to some for the more he saw of me better he liked me. He wanted to have another talk before I came home It 10.

Mon 4th.. March / 1889. Up early Mr J. Alton came when us at Bkft to butcher. S & I doing washing etc I felt rather homesick after talking with Philus.

Tues 5th.. Had men cutting wood. Baking & cooking dinner. Just 6 men for

Wed 6th.. March. Lovely day. S. rendering out lard. P.M. covered buggy went passed tho't it Dr but turned out to be Geo Bumby & Joe B. didn't called but went to Geo Altons & Josephs Alton. Saw P. driving 4 girls on a manure wagon along Street. He told us about Joe being over there expected them to call but didn't. Phil came over in eve from P.O. & put his horse in stable, supposed he was intending to have a good talk. Had mouth organ music & Jew harp & doing puzzles on table with matches when Mr Alton stepped in so strange Phil asked him if he was lost. He so angry could hardly speak cause had to come over to find Phil. His mother imagined the colt he went to P.O. on had throwed him off & killed him so she couldn't rest until Mr A got up out of bed & went to look for him. Phil soon got out his colt & went home. Well I couldn't help laughing to think his father had to come to tell him to go home. I was so thankful that he & I wasn't sitting up alone talking. He got fooled out of his talk after all. I rather glad.

Thur 7th.. Geo Alton came over for S & I to go over there for the PM. so we went he {pioletted?} us over the muddy roads. Sarah Alton there & Ella Breckon & Gertie & Maggie Had a lively time stayed for tea then got home 6.30. Got Alfs tea & Phil called with Gertie to take me up to Helson library. Not many out. Had a short progamme. Home at 10.30. After a tight squeeze sitting 3 on a seat.

Frid 8th.. March 1889. Expected Maggie Alton Sarah Alton & Ella Breckon over they came & S & I met with them over to see Lila Alton. Stayed about an hour. Then they came in for tea & went at 6. I painted floor after they went home. Had good time.

Sat 9th.. After work done, I painted floor all over. It 9. when got through.

Sun 10th.. Lovely day. I coaxing Alf to bring me home. He sleeping on sofa & I started to dress him put on his pants. Had great fun. Alf drove S & I up to Methodist church. Gertie her Ma & Pa out Gertie made me sing in choir. After tea we went "over home". Had a good sing. Stev & Mary Ezard & baby there & Josie & Lila. When coming home Phil holding lantern for Stev so couldn't walk home with me. I laughed to myself for escaping the talk.

Mon 11th.. Alf drove me home. found Mary Thompson here. M.W. & Mary drove to Oakville. didn't get back until 3. P.M. suppose they went to fortune teller but couldn't find out for sure. Annie & I went over to see Edith & called in P.O. coming home. Dave & Arthur there & they walked up with us & came in house & went in pantry & ate pie etc. They just full of mischief. Archie hear talking & playing cards with girls Annie talked to him until 2 A.M.

Tues 12th.. M.W. & Mary drove up to Street. Annie & I washing. Mrs McC & Ella called. A & M.L. went to teachers meeting. Dave & Arthur walked up home with girls & I up stairs & Arthur climbed up varendia post & right up to window & gave me candy.

Wed 13th.. Very busy {berry?} baking. Frank came went over to see Arthur in P.M. Us singing in P M. F. stayed all evening. I out hot irons in his bed E.M. birthday 38 years old.

Thursday 14th.. Frank went home at 10. after he & Annie had some gymnasium exersise. In eve, who should come but Arthur & Joe B. They stayed till 12. Annie & I playing cards with them.

Frid 15th.. Mary went home at noon. I sewing all P.M. To bed. 10.

Sat 16th.. Nice day through work in good time Dave called but I didn't see him. I writing in this. To bed at 10.

Sun 17th.. March / 89. Lovely day but roads very muddy. A. M.L. & I to S.S. Had a splendid S.S. quite a lot of helpers. Stayed for church. Sat in choir stayed for class. Dave stayed also. He walked up road with me A. got ride with Mr Stuart. Dave came in tho't he intended coming, so asked him in. Us walking up lane when Joe came around corner of house. Archie Dave Joe & Mr Stewart here for tea. Dave talking to Archie. I done dishes. Then Dave went & Archie Annie & M.L. started on ahead to go to M. church where B. minister was to preach to Orangemen & Joe. M.W. & I behind. Joe found Archie's rubber in lane. Had great laugh about it. Church full all centre of seats full of Orangemen with there galias on looked real nice. Got home at 9. Lovely & moonlight, took a stroll around garden then came in. Archie a little vexed because didn't tell him we found his rubber. I lit fire in parlor & Joe & I went down & had a great talk. "Said he would come down if Philus came or not, until I told him to quit." It 1 Oclock when he went.

Mon 18th.. Done washing & I sewing at night dress. A & I went down to see Bertha D. Willi D. home so had lots of music violin organ guitar & mouth organ. Stayed until 10.

Tues 19th.. Dave over helping cut wood & I baking. He took my sun bonnet & wore it out to work all day. M.L. A & I went down to Bible class meeting in church. Had the S.S. lesson explained by Mr Kennedy & Harris. Dave walked up with A & I & M.L. & Mr. K.

Wed 20th.. Snowing. M.L. went over to visit Mrs K. & stayed for tea D came home with her & A & I went over to see Mrs Brod. & D. went along found Arthur keeping house all folks over to Annie B. to the baby's birthday party. They got home before we came home & had some singing. Then came home D & I behind & A & A ahead. It 10.00. Large fire in Toronto. chair factory burnt.

Thur 21st.. March 1889. A went to Toronto I drove her to station then went to P.O. & took Bertha for a drive when got back to her place met Dave & I drove him home. Then stood at gate & talked he told me something that Joe said over at Brays which I didn't like Wouldn't tell me all. Then I drove him to Miss Wrights & gave Ada B. a ride down to P.O. & back I sang all eve.

Frid 22nd.. Lovely day. Mrs Adams called, Mandia & {Carl?} Jones called Archie came to go to literary & A not home so asked M.L. to go.

Sat 23rd.. One year ago on 23rd I had the great talk with Dave. Lovely clear day cleaning pipes etc. Washed head. Writing in this & to bed.

Sun 24th.. S & Alf came I singing went to S.S. Bertha & I in choir large choir, no anthem, Emily awfully melancholy Villa Curtis & her husband out another unknown bride out also. Bumbys out. Frank out to church he walked up with us. Dave not out to S.S. but to church with S. Peacock. Had Frank, Archie & Alf & S. for tea. Archie got drive home with Alf so F. & I went to B. church. Dave came in church with Austin S. Quite a lot down from Weston. F. stayed till 11.

Mon 25th.. Lovely day, got through washing & I washing buggy in creek & Mrs McCay came along & helped me draw buggy up to barn. After dinner I drove went to Bronte & called for Bertha & drove to Oakville we went to "Old Mrs Jackland the fortune teller" So I got mine told 1st.. took 1 hr. Then B. had hers for 1/2 hr felt quite satisfied with mine she told me such a lot of past truth. We had such laughing going in Oakville B. told me part of hers & I told her part of mine. Done shoping & got home 7.30. We had quite a big talk coming home.

Tues 26th.. March 1889. Went to Bible class. Dave & B. there {closing?} I seemed to be about last coming out so was " " & I said to D. "whats the matter" & he said "Nothing" very cooly & short so I just walked on & left him he caught up to & grabbed my hand & said "come back here" so he saw I felt offended. Expected he & B. over on Thur to spend evening.

Wed 27th.. Tommy (our man) went to Toronto with apples

Thur 28th.. Girls drove over to see Edith in eve Bertha & Frank came but Dave didn't. Had singing & playing & game of cards B asked me for the essay D. wrote for me she wanted a copy of it. To bed. 10.30.

Frid 29th.. I went over to Kennedy's with some carrot pudding for them, as they gave us the carrots. Didn't see D. he cutting wood I sewing all P.M. went to P.O. in eve.

Sat 30th.. Nice day. Got through work after dinner. Annie came home of 6 train. She showing her purchasing & talking so didn't get this done till 10.30.

Sun 31st.. Mar. Terrible snow storm all day but went to S.S. M.L. A & I Not many out to church. Mr Stuarts, brother preached, very good. Dave out I tho't he was angry but I spoke to him & rather angry at myself afterwards for shaking hands with him. I walked up rode with Arthur B. & Annie & Archie behind. All alone in eve reading went to bed early.

Mon 1st.. April. Snow about a foot deep. Felt rather out of sorts expected to have to help Pa to fan up grain so didn't get only part washing done. It a lovely day. Went out to barn P.M. & turned fanning mill. just got through & coming to house as Archie drove up he saw me. He stayed & talked to Annie till 5 P.M. a final talk I guess.

Tues 2nd.. April 1889. Nice day. A & I drove over to see Edith.M. she better. Had nice time come home in time to catch 4.30 train. Annie went to Toronto. M.L. & I went to Bible class not many out. Had a big talk to Dave sort of squaring up matters He stayed till after 11. He apologized for the way he spoke to me the previous week at the church door & when I asked him "what the matter was" he said he felt rather unwell. heard bad news about George his brother Told me why he couldn't take Annie S. class

Wed 3rd.. April. I sewing. Girls quilting It Pa birthday 77 years old.

Thur 4th.. S & Alf came. Just finished washing blankets. Franke W. he came also they hear for dinner. Alf & Frank to P.O. I sewing & talked to F. S & Alf went at 3. Bertha D. came up with music & F. B. & I singing sang till 7. When came out no supper ready so B couldn't stay, till tea ready I sorry to see her go I played checkers with F. all eve.

Frid 5th.. April. F. reading & I sweeping. He went over to see Arthur B. B.4. dinner didn't come back until 5 P.M. & Arthur driving to station so F. went with him. Didn't hardly look for him back. I went to P.O. & waited in Dorlands till male came in Had a good play & got home at 9. F. & Arthur B. hear. So had to have a game of cards played till 11. F. stayed all eve.

Sat 6th.. Busy till after noon. F. went to P.O. & Geo Williams came back with him. I finished cleaning floor. They went just after wards I finished chemises & reading got card from Ida saying she coming home Mon.

Sun 7th.. Lovely day, nice & warm. Finished book "Between two loves" went to S.S. Lot out. Stayed for church. Bertha & I in choir Joe at church. F & Frank Horning sat together Dave & Geo W. Austin S also. stayed for class. Joe & I walked up together. Just him for tea. We went for

walk up to concession & I told him part of my fortune came back & sitting in parlor. Had a sing then talked till 11. he went

Mon 8th.. 1889. Got through washing early. I went to Station to meet Ida. She came. I rather sick all P.M.

Tues 9th.. April. I finished ironing Alf hear for dinner. Two Marias went over to Mrs Williams. Ida & I raking yard, I went down to bible class. called in for Bertha & just coming away when Dave called for her so we came on & waited at corner & all went together. Had a pretty good lesson. Dave came home with M.L & I. He came in & saw Ida. Then when he went I got him some pie & we talked out in kitchen until after 12. Had a great talk & laugh he seemed like he used to be. so lively & o{division sign}

Wed 10th.. I raking yard. Ida & I went over to Mrs Brodericks for lime saw Dave drawing brush with sleigh. Arthur came home with us & went on to P.O. It lovely & moonlight. We got on Mr Wilsons swing & had a swing. any thing for mischief. Ida got letter with her proofs for Photo in. We played game till 11.

Thur 11th.. I cleaning Tom bed room when Emily Triller came for dinner Then I cleaned pantry & kitchen P.M. Ella McCay called & it 6 when got through ate tea in sitting room. Listened to Emily talk till 10.

Frid 12th.. April. Churning. Emily & M.L. went collecting. I finished cleaning yard P.M. M.W. painting walls in kitchen. To bed 9. I so tired.

Sat 13th.. I painted floor in kitchen.

Sun 14th.. Walked down to S.S. with Ada R. met Bertha she looked rather sad so I asked her what was the matter she told me her father had been talking to her, about she must go play in the B church & she didn't want to. Quite a lot out to church. Bertha walked up with me & Frank & Mr McGillvray behind then came in for tea us having a good sing when Dave came hear for tea. Then Dave making us all laugh we all went to B. church.

Mon 15th.. April 1889. Washing Pa & Tommy (our man) hunting a house for expecting his wife out from Ireland. Ida painted floor again Men folks butchering.

Tues 16th.. Tommy & I up early drove to Hamilton got there at 9. Emma Mr Mc & I went shoping. Blondie & I went down Street & bo't a mouth organ after dinner. I studying phymology {phrenology}till Tom called with his wife & we got home at 8. Annie B. & Dan hear Kept folks all night 2 children & her father.

Wed 17th.. I cleaned wood shed. Tom got moved over in with Miss Okley.

Thurs 18th..Moving out stove in kitchen cleaning dining room & pantry very tired when got through. Annie came home from Toronto

Frid 19th.. "Good Friday" Mabel & Gordon came off 1st.. train then A. drove to meet Ga. Lizzie & Annie came. Then Sarah, Wolsley & Gertie came, all hear for dinner Ida & I waiting for dinner. Had some singing & talking It was very warm in P.M. Folks all went away but Mabel & Gordon

Sat 20th.. M.W. & I sewing vegetable seed very warm. Had a lot of work to do. Ida fixing Annie's things. Mable, Gordon & I went to church. Met Albert Peacock & went through bush got flowers & winter green boxes. Got home at 5. Emma & Baby came off noon train.

Sun 21st.. Easter Sunday. Went to SS & sat with Mable & Emma B. Archie hear for tea. Late getting tea over S & Alf came down. Mable & I went to B. church. Heard good singing. Coming home Arthur B. drove up to us & asked me to get in so Mabel & I got in & had a nice drive. When got home Ella & Arthur hear Austin & Archie Alf & S. Quite a house full. Arthur B. didn't stay Austin & Archie Ida A & I & Mabel had a good sing They went at 11. I slept with Mabel.

Mon 22nd.. April. Washing. I drove A up to 5. train but missed it so she went over to see Edith Then I took Mabel up to 6.. & came back passed Bertha Annie J. & Ella W. on road gave them a ride to Bronte. Met Annie on hill & bro't B. home with me to go to station but Ida wanted to go for a drive so she went with Annie & B. Dave called in evening & had a nice chat.

Tues 23rd.. April 1889. Ida & I {?staking?} went over to Mrs Williams in P.M. stayed for tea & went to B. class. Frank & McGillvery out walked up with us & came in. Gave each a piece of pie. Had a great laugh about some white cotton some body put in a tree in garden found out who put it there. Tho't it was Dave 1st.. but found out it Frank & Mc they string it in tree the Sun. eve they were both down.

Wed 24th.. April / 89. I went to P.O. & saw B. In there place had lots of music she came home with me & we walked up & down lane she telling me some comical mistakes she made with Dave. I just roared. Ida over to D. Brays & I just got back as Ida got home & Dave with her. So I asked him why he wasn't out to Bible class & he said I know cause I had seen B. but I wouldn't tell him if I saw him or not. We had a rambling time he trying to force me to tell.

Thur 25th.. Mr Sherchion & Celena called P.M. for plants.

Frid 26th.. M.W. & Ida out in garden Ella up for milk.

Sat 27th.. I baking & doing work got through & went over to Kennedys for onions. men folks came home for supper I came away. I asked D. if he found out of B & I were to gether Wed. eve. He satisfied he said.

Sun 28th.. Rainy all day. M.L. & I to S.S. quite a few out. Mr Stuart for tea. Ida & I went to B S.S. at eve. Arthur B. walked up with us. Had a sing then he went.

Mon 28th.. Busy all day

Tues. 30th.. Rather a cold week. Wallis Walton came stayed all night. He working on rail road. M.L. & I to B. Class. Frank & McG. then came up with us. It very cold could hardly keep warm in church. B. & I sat together & couldn't keep from laughing at Dave & Geo W. in front both under one over coat F & Mc stayed till after 12. us so tired & sleepy

Wed Wed 1st.. May / 89. Men folks butchering & preparing to go to Toronto. Wallis came again & stayed all night he went over to see Ingledews. I to bed early.

Thurs 2nd.. Dave came in evening & told us all the story which was in the Globe about "Found Guilty" It 11 when he got through. Early in morning at 2. A.M. got up & got breakfast for M.W. & Tomy going to Toronto. Stayed up until 5. then layed down till 7. got up & worked all day. They took calf, pork, chickens, potatoes, apples etc.

Frid 3rd.. I baking & boiling soap. Washed my hair. In parlor after tea singing & Ida came down bro't light & no singing when rap came to door & Ida went I turned down lamp & was out step door & up stairs & got my dress changed & hair combed for it hanging down my back drying. It was Joe B & Frank who came. Hadn't seen Joe for nearly 4 week terrible long time the reason was I think, he having to attend his poor sister's funeral at Canfield Mrs Shapland died of a tumor buried on Sat Easter. They stayed until 11.30. Got talking about Phrenology & Joe bound to feel the back of my head as we had tussel but he did,

Sat 4th.. I done baking & cleaning. M.W. came home on 6 train. I went to P.O. saw B. out side & stood talking then Dave & Mr Youstone came along & all went to P.O. I left D. & B. & came on home playing mouth organ when Dave run up behind me & scared me terribly. He came in & I gave him pie & rasp vinegar.

Sun 5th.. May 1889. It lovely morning so got up pretty good time & Ida & I drove up to Appleby Church the re opening of it. Dr Stone preached lot out passed Joe on road. sat with Mrs Matthewmen She invited us over for dinner. So we over took Joe on road & he drove us in. Stayed for dinner. Had a real nice time after dinner singing & Harris B came & us all out on lawn. Mr Matthewmen reading us a letter from a missionary in China a friend of theres. We stayed for tea, & then Harris B & Lucy (M.L. & Ida drove with him to A. church & Joe drove me with our horse. Lot out. Sat in front seat. M.L. up with Trillers. Choir lovely. Felt sorry I stayed all day up there because I wasn't at all well & felt so disagreeable. Harris drove Ida home & Joe me at 11. When got home

Mon 6th.. Washing {sewing?} out making garden.

Tues 7th.. Ironing. Alf came & I finished.. He wanted me to go home with him but couldn't. Ida & I went to B I also met D. at gate. Frank out {about?} 13 out. Walked up with D. F. & Arthur B. Bertha not out. Frank went on home. Dave & Arthur came in D. feeling rather fresh, gave me my first lesson on sitting two in a rocking chair. Gave them some pie & they went.

Wed 8th.. I churned then got ready & Pa & I drove to Hamilton. 27 awful hot. I bot shoes slippers etc. Got back at 8.30 as came passed Matthewmans they had a large bon fire & Lucy & Sarah sitting on fence.

Thur 9th.. House cleaning cellar Pa bedroom & cellar way. Alf bro't ML home so tired he wanted me to go back but couldn't to busy. S. not very well. Had John McMillian hear for tea. I got dressed & went down to P.O. to meet Ida to go over to Ellas met B. so we walked across creek to met Ida coming from Williams so Geo Ida & I went. Had a nice time but Oh so sleepy.

Frid 10th.. Making garden baking house cleaning upstairs & cleaning straw bery plants & I wrote a card to Annie, M.W. & M.L. down to see Ellie I writing in this got so far behind nearly lost track.

Sat 11th May. Rather busy. Ida came home from Mrs Williams & we walked over to get some eggs from Mr Kennedy she alone stayed & talked till 10. When got home found Dave here. Just as we got to door I said to Ida How different it might have been if I had went alone cause I could have had a good talk to Mrs K herself and could have put in a good word for Bertha as D. asked me to: so when opened door there stood Dave & heard what I was saying. I didn't know what to do or look. Where to put my self. He stayed till after 12. we looking through phrenology.

Sun 12th.. May. Up in good time. Having a nap when called one as S. & Alf here & Frank & Geo W. aso so had to get up & get dressed. had some singing & they all hear for dinner. Had SS. at 3 P.M. so we went F. & Geo went home after S.S., Met. D & B. going for a walk. Had no one for tea Dave called to go to B. church so Ida & I went F. & Geo out but didn't speak to them. We waited for B out side church & Mr Dorland walked alone sidewalk with Ida & I & D with B. behind. B came all way home with us & sat in hammock & talk & fooled till 11. Then D went home with B.

Mon 13th.. May. Washing & I digging in garden in P.M. & heard some body called & looked around house there it Mandia Jennie Wild Miss Fleming from Erie & Cal Jones they stayed a short time Jenny had her baby with her. Had great laughing. Pa away to Palermo I promised Bertha I would be down so I went but it started to rain & I met her & Dave so B & I went on to P.O. & then D. B & I walked up road & they came in with. But I went in to unlock parlor door & just opening door & Pa came out rear door to empty something & there was B & D sitting on stoop I didn't know what to do so we went in & I light lamp & we had a sing. D. sang some of his pieces. It 10.30 when they went & Wesley D. came up to see if B was here.

Tues 14th.. Went to B. class called for Bertha F. & Mr McG. down cracked up road with Frank & Ida & Mr Mc & M.L. & Mr Kennedy It lovely & moon light. Dave not out.

Wed 15th.. Cleaning sitting room. Alf came down for me to go up but it rained so he stayed all night.

Thur 16th.. Got up at 5 & Alf & I drove up to Street got there at 6. So I helped S. clean her front room I painted ceiling Went to bed at 9.

Frid 17th.. Very hot cleaning kitchen. Phil stoped in & I had nearly all my close off & working away so hot. Alf finished cleaning floor while S. & I milked for a change. Alf & Phil went ball playing but called in coming back & Phil & I had some music on mouth organ & Jew harp. He didn't stay long. Rather tired.

Sat 18th.. baking & ironing & putting up curtains for S. Busy all day. Alf went to ball playing & got back at 6, & we done work & started for Bronte at 7. When got home Ada & Emma B. here & Dave Dave & I in hammock talking till 11. Alf went fishing & S waiting

Sun 19th.. Went to S.S. stayed for church. B. played & I in choir Dave walked up with Ida & Archie & I. It rained in P.M. They hear for tea. Then all in a hurry to get off to Oakville church so Dave hitched our horse & went home done his chores & we met him at gate & he drove us to church in Presbyterian Mr Fraser preached a lot out. Got home at 10. rather cold I had D. handkerchief tied around my head to keep warm looked like an "old granny" He came in till 11. He let me read his paper he composed out to Ida.

Mon 20th.. Washing. very tired I cut out basque. B. walked up with Ida, from P.O. & I out looking to her. Went to bed. at 9.30

Tues 21st.. sewing carpet & busy all day. Went to B. class. lot out about 30 called for B. & met D. so went to gether. Mr Kennedy & Mr Cranston his brother-in law adressed meeting. B & I sat to gether found out D. told her about us going to O. church Sun. & about handkerchief.

Folks all got out of church 1st.. but D. B. & I so I left them & walked up all alone & it very dark but not far behind so kept back. Didn't care about the meeting. Mr Le rather conceited over his way of believing & thought no one else should be alike.

Wed 22nd.. May / 89. Put down dining room carpet awful busy Annie C. came of 6 train. I writing in this & to bed. 9. Our big pig died & left 8 little ones & we feeding them with spoon.

Thurs 23rd.. May. Nice cool day rather windy in P.M. I baking & busy. M L & Annie C. went over to see Edith Then Annie drove up to meet our Annie of 6 train. I trimmed hat.

Frid 24th.. May Us girls sewing. Just 2 Annies' extra for dinner Boat came in & Blandina folks all came up. Aunt Eliza came of train. Mandia Hixson called & Call Jones Dave here he tho't so many coming he would go to P.O. S & Alf drove down for few minutes Quite a crowd here Very quiet. Boat went to Hamilton at 5 & Ida went with them. Archie drove two Annie's to see boat & I walked with Mabel down. Will Alton came down to boat just as it was leaving S. in a hurry to go so hadn't much talk I walked up with Dave & Bertha. They came as far as gate & we fooling when Tom Annie & Archie came down to gate & said tea was ready so they came in & we had singing & I washed dishes & they played ball. Then us all singing & playing cards till 11. Aunty stayed over.

Sat 25th.. Aunty & I drove to Bronte to do some shoping Then Two Annie drove up to Sarahs in P.M. Aunty went home on noon train. I busy all day. Sewing P.M. Went to Bronte P.O. saw

Dave & Arthur B. at a distance talking to Bertha. Saw some vagabond on road tho't he inclined to follow one so went through Adams & B stood at fence till I got at gate then whistled when I got there all right.

Sun 26th.. May After work done having a nap when 2 Annies & S came down. Went to S.S. Quite a lot out to church Joe B & Harris B. there. Sat with Ada Emma B & Bertha D. Frank & Mr Mc there. I stayed for class Mr Cranston Mr Kennedy's brother-in-law there & Miss Amot from Oakville & Miss Vaicre from Toronto They all believe in holiness. Had a good class meeting only long. M.W. & I walked up road with Arthur B. Found Joe B. here & Archie Arthur wanted me to go to church but I declined as had company. After tea Joe & I us all in parlor. Archie talking to Annie C & I he showing us his ring which he bo't for some lady Had great time talking. Then Joe & I started to go to B. church Got there rather late & church full so didn't want to go in Dave came out & wanted us to go in choir but didn't care to so we went for a walk across creek down to Lake & back home Joe got a rail of Adams fence & made a seat in side of gate & we talked till nearly 10. Just got to house as Archie was going so Joe went too about 10.30.

Mon 21st.. Our Annie went to Toronto on 1st.. train. S & Annie C. drove her up. I went to P.O. saw B. had a long talk about the holiness question. Alf bo't down some pigs for us & S. went back with him. I drove Annie C to station she went on 6 train saw Frank & his sister at station they going to Toronto. Rather cold

Teus 28th.. May. Went to B. class. Called for Bertha & Mrs Wilson & we went over to gether. Mr Cranston there & Miss Arnot & Miss Varcoe friends of Kennedy's. Had quite a meeting. B. said we were in for a talking from them. M.L. & I walked up alone.

Wed 29th.. I out in garden all A.M. Bertha came up in P.M. It started to rain Miss Hallowern & Lucy Mathewman called. Had to drive them home through rain. Then met Pa at train from Toronto. Then B & I drove over to bring M.L. home from Kennedys. She just going to have tea. Dave wanted us to go in but I didn't see any use going in for so short a stay. Drove out front way & Dave had to run wagon out of road & open gate for me. He looked so desolated. I felt sorry for him. B. went home early after we had tea.

Thur 30th.. Raining & no sewing. Ida came home from H at eve.

Frid 31st.. I rather sick in night, & all day but I doing work all A.M. & sewing at wrapper in eve. Went to bed a 8.

Sat 1st.. June / 89 Rather cool. I done baking & cleaning & sewing at wrapper. John Mc hear to see Pa & Ed. Minch also called I finished wrapper. Dave came in & stayed till 12.

Sun 2nd.. Went to S.S. stayed for church B & I in choir. F & Mr McG. walked up with me & came in Mr Stuart also for tea. We went to church D & B. not out. They went at 10. F & I talking about pic-nic M.P. S.S. going to Lorne Park & invited our S.S. Want to go if can only get a driver.

Mon 3rd.. June / 89. Washing out in garden all P.M.

Tues 4th.. P.M. cut out wrapper M.W. & M L out driving looking for pickers I ready to go to B. S.S. when it looked liked rain then Dave called, so I went to have a sing when came out of room D. had gone. I tho't he couldn't go to pic-nic he said on Frid. Suppose he didn't like it of me to go & sing.

Wed 5th.. June Sewing. Bertha D. up to get Ida cut her dress

Thur 6th.. June M.L. & Pa drove to Oakville Nice day. Ida sewing at our print dresses. Bertha came up again. Alf & Sarah came Alf went to Bronte to hear about law suit between Easton & H. Breckon about dog killing sheep. When he came back bro't Joe B. & Frank with him. Man. Belyea's wife hear a little while. F. J. B. & I playing croquey till T. Joe & I against Bertha & F. Then finished game after tea & I milked & Arthur B. came along on sulky the other folks playing croquey so I talking to Arthur about pic-nic to Lorne Park M.P. & Palermo S.S. going so invited B S.S. I asked F. to drive Ida & I. Ida, Bertha, & I got on Or. sulky & "Blind Charlies" & drove down lane & took B. home such fun riding on it. Ida & Arthur went for drive after we got back & Joe & I talking in hammock. Then went in & played cards till 10.30 F. stayed all night to help drive up to pic-nic.

Frid 7th.. Nice in A.M, but raining after. I asked Pa for horse but he going to use it to go to Palermo so tho't we would wait till he came back so F. & I out in garden planting seed when AB Broderick came out & asked me to go with him & Ida to pic-nic

but I couldn't leave F. after asking him to drive us. So Arthur & Ida went & took the basket that I baked. I got ready to go on train but it started to rain again so gave up the notion of going. Then Pa came cback with horse & I asked him again to let us a horse to drive to station but no he wouldn't. so I just felt hurt. F. {?ound} to go since I prevented him from going & he prevented me from going so I borrowed Biggs horse & took our buggy & harness & went out back way & got there after a terrible struggle. It 3.30 when arrived It raining every little while. found Dave & Bertha Ida & Arthur & Emma Bray there. It rather a dull pic-nic & Merton & Palermo folks rather stuff when we were to eat out tea there they had stolen all our stuff so had to come home for our supper. Boys treated us girls to lemonade Wouldn't have had any fun if it hadn't been for Dave. Came home a new way followed B & D quit a long road It 9.30 home.

Sat 8th.. June I out in garden didn't

Sun 9th.. Went to S.S. & church no organ to sing by It out of tune Mr. Yorstone preached. B. & I sat together. I stayed for class Had a great meeting another Hollinessman there & he arguing with Mr Yorstone so Mr Williams started up a time to stop them when got home 5.30. Dave here for tea. Then he went home & Arthur B came & us all reading then D. came back again & we talked then went down in Parlor & sang & combed D. hair & we talked out side till 11. Then they went at 12.

Mon 10th.. Sewing To bed early. Bertha went to Toronto I boiled soap. Tom's wife over helping to sew.

Tues 11th.. June / 89. ML & I went to B. class I walked on a head & Mr McGilvrey over took then Dave a little behind him. Not very many out. D. & I sat to-gether. He & Mr Mc came in & we talked on varendia till 11. Ida writing letter to Flo S.

Wed 12th.. Girls went to Palermo to see Drs. I in hammock & Ida sitting out doors, some body throwing stone at me looked up & saw Dave. He talked till girls came home then he put in horse.

Thur 13th.. I in garden all A.M. sewing P.M. Salvation army fellow called on his {division sign} Miss Hallowern here for tea. Ida & I ready to go to P.O. in eve when {?} & Miss Kennedy came I played & we sang. They seemed very sociable with me.

Frid 14th.. June My Birthday. 20 summers have passed It a lovely clear day. I baking in A.M. & churning. M.L. & I drove up to Trillers called at P.O. got letter from Annie. Had a lovely time at Triller only Emily & her Pa & Uncle home. Had such a nice tea. Got home at 9.30 Emily Trillers birthday on 13th.. June & Jake Lucas's on 14th..

Sat 15th.. After work done all up stairs getting dressed & some one throwing stones in window. So hurried down & it Dave wanted some butter. Went to P.O. & called coming back sat & talked till 6. He got a letter from Bertha. After tea I in parlor playing when he came over. D & I on sofa & Ida on chair talking till 11.

Sun 16th.. Went to SS. but rained stayed for church but

no minister came so came up road with Charlotte B & Dave & Arthur B. Arthur came in & Dave went on with C.B. A & I in singing when Dave came Ida asley she got up & us all singing then D. & Ida got tea & we had our eaten when folks came home from boat so Arthur nursed baby while D & Ida cleaned table & I attended to milk. Us all singing then talking on sofa. Arthur went at 10 but Dave wasn't ready to go so we talked till it rained. They he waited till after rain slacked. It 1.30 when he went. Had a big talk etc.

Mon 17th.. June Emma hear & baby I cleaning parlor Alf came for Ida. Mandia & Jennie called in P.M. & I in parlor untidy. Dave came as I was milking in barn said I looked tired he sorry. I went down to call for Mabel at boat to go to temperance meeting but her Pa wouldn't let her go so I went it in our church Had some speakers from a distance It awful hot so didn't stay till out. Emma & Ada Bray came up road with me.

Tues 18th.. I washing curtains then cleaned out cellar Dave called to go to B. class. M.L. & I went not many out only 7 Dave went home with his father from gate.

Wed 19th.. Raining but washing I picked a few berries for tea then finished fixing parlor. Writing

Thur 20th.. Emma Blondie & baby and all hands out picking goose berries. Got 4 baskets full. I dressed in eve & walked over to see Annie Belyea & talked till 10. She came as far as gate stood talking when Dave came down lane & then came back with me & we talked till 11. Came in & hunting cake but couldn't find it so got Emma boat came in & Emma & folks went down to it.

Frid 21st.. June. Raining boat went to H. I baking & sweeping & cleaning stove pipes & coloring. Then had a sing & writing in this. Two Marias went to P.O. to tell pickers.

Sat 22nd.. / 89. Picked 1st.. lot of berries all A.M. got 3 cases I done work after dinner.

Sun 23rd.. June Lovely day. Had nap in A. M. but bothered some what with a bell ringing up in cherry tree to kept cherry birds away. When I awoke S. & Alf hear & boat folks all hear for dinner. Went to S.S. Large attendence 68 I went out side after wards & saw Dave told him S & A down we intended to have gone up if they hadn't come down. I stayed for church. Sat in choir but no organ it broke. Had splendid sermon. Lot strangers out Ernest there. Spoke to him after church. Max & Anne L. there too Dave walked up with Charlotte & I. He hear for tea Mr Stuart S & Alf & Sam. Archie in but went home before T. boat folks went home but Mabel. D went home & hitched up & we went for a drive to late for church so went on up to Street. I rather surprised to see us come to soon. Ida not there so didn't stay on 3/4 hr. Had a big talk coming home at 12. D.' a little despondant but living in hopes.

Mon 24th.. Washed in P.M. I out in garden all PM. so tired, To bed 8.

Tues 25th.. Picking. D came over in patch & telling me about Bertha she came home on Mon. he showed me her gem. She gave him a surprise. about not wanting to be (any more) intimate. M.L. & I went to B. class D & B. there when we there, Not many out. Gordon came & tired us they wanted us home so didn't wait till it was out. When got home found

Ida & Philus Alton. Had a good sing & out in garden with lamp. Gave him a dish of berries. Ida & I went out to barn with lamp for him to hitch up.

Wed 26th.. June / 89. Rather rainy. Ida & I drove to Oakville I got 2 teeth out got home 5.30. Dave called in eve. He not in very good spirit & my face so sore couldn't talk. But other girls talked till 10.30

Thur 27th.. Picking I got sick came in house all A.M. Boat came down in eve. Mr K. hear & a organ tuner girls singing but I writing in this.

Frid 28th.. Busy all day. I went to P.O. & got card from Annie she coming home on 6 train. Mandia called Annie Bray called. I baking till dark. Went to gate for a walk got cooled off & went to bed 10.

Sat 29th.. Picking all A.M. Then expect Ga's up so preparing extra for them. I terribly tired. I out milking Archie going down road he asked me if I was going to practise I said yes so he came through. Annie wouldn't hurry so Archie & I went on. Met Charlotte at corner Emily & Ida & Andie Fleming there Andie so comical. Had a good practise got home at 10. Annie & I sitting talking when Dave looked in window so he came in till Ga's & M.L. came of Blandina at 11. D & I locked out side till folks all went to bed. Will came off midnight train.

Sun 30th.. Lovely day. Had a nap just got dressed when Will came up & No girls singing in parlor but Annie came up to awake me so we talked I telling her about D & all {through?} Went to SS. stayed for church lot out. Will Alton there came with the Brays. Will Annie C. Ida & I went to boat after church & bro't baby & Mabel up. Had such a lot for tea all GA's & Watsons Ida & I out picking berries when D came along but he {page torn} around corner

of house while we were cleaning berries & never came back after tea I got very dissy. Joe B. here for a long time before I knew it. then Phil Alton came. I too sick to talk to either. Girls & boys went out to patch & when they came back I on ladder vomiting so they came & spoke to me but I didn't get better until they going home. Stayed on lounge. Then after they gone. Will missed me. But awful week.

Mon 1st.. July. rained 1st.. thing. M.W. went down to boat to go to Ham- & G.A. & Will went home on 1st.. train. I churning & picking berries all A.M. Went to P.O. & home all eve S. & Alf came down us all out picking for them. To bed 10

Tues 2nd. July / 89. Picking all day very tired got 75. Annie went to Toronto on 6 train. Mr McGillvray called to go to B class so Ida & I went only us & Bertha & Mr K there. Listing to concert in hall afterwards

Wed 3rd.. Very warm picking all day. D. came in eve while I was playing he telling us about his trip to Toronto on 1st. July. To bed at 11.

Thur 4th.. Warm day. picking all day. Blandina came in eve. folks up Mrs Bray called after dinner for a few minutes she taking care of Annie baby. {?} Wilds' wedding day. Ida & I wanted to go to garden party up on Street at {Springers?} but no horse.

Frid 5th.. July. Picking strawberries racing with {F?} W. Then hurried & got dressed & started to go to Oakville dentist had to run to get a ride with Tommy (our man) Maud Biggs went down with me. Got 8 teeth filled & run all the way to station & missed the train so turned around & walked all the way home it 7.30 & ate my dinner & supper when got home Ida & I got ready to go up to Palermo to Minnie Sherdians party but Pa cross so wouldn't let horse go after hitching it up we so cross & went to bed.

Sat 6th.. July. Busy all day & so tired & stiff after my walk M.L. & I went to practise. Archie drove us home it lovely & moon light.

Sun 7th.. Archie S. birthday. Lovely day but hot. Had Mr Deason to preach. Rather nice for a change. Pa got boys & came out of church. Had Arthur B. for tea. Then Ida & he went to Oakville church. I alone Archie hear he & M.L. went for a long drive I singing when F. S. W. came we went out in garden & talked I afraid Pa would see him. Told him what Pa said about no going to pic-nic It 10.30

Mon 8th.. Picking all day very tired

Tues 9th.. Lizzie Forfar came off boat in eve. Laying in hammock & heard some whistling so went around block for walk. It lovely & moonlight

Thur 11th.. Picking goose berries hurried & got ready Annie & Nellie came of 6 train from Toronto. Arthur B called & Ida & I got ready & went to Garden party up at Thomas Altons. Such a delightful night & such a lot there. Arthur took Ida & Emma Bray to tea & Frank W. took me. Had the Milton brass band in attendance & ice cream & lemmade stands. Joe B there but he promenading with Alice his sister, I excused my self from F went with Gertie Alton to get on my coat so afterwards got talking to Minnie Sherdian & Joe B. then Joe & Minnie went off & Phil. & I went & I promenading with Phil Alton all eve. Music just grand. Phil treated me to ice cream. Had a lovely time. Got acquainted with lot of people. It 2 A.M. when got home. Didn't get with Joe at all. Nellie & Annie drove our horse we got home together then eating onions & it 2.20 A M & to bed. Will was with Clara Lucas. Max & Annie Lucas together. Such fun watching couples. promenading.

Frid 12th.. July / 89. Nice day finished picking strawberries. Early to bed.

Sat 13th.. I churning down cellar. Dave called 1st.. time for over a week. Busy all day Willie Walton came up from Toronto. Folks up from boat. Minnie Sherdian Walter & a Miss Smith from Palermo down. Arthur B. called & we all went down to have a row but Mr McMichael wouldn't let the boat go so we set down on deck & talking about garden party, till W.G. & Emma came & then Watson let us have the boat & we went for a boat ride it lovely & moon light. Arthur went up to see if he could get another boat & we went before he got back. Got home at 11. Went in parlor had refreshments & singing then went at 12.

Sun 14th.. Cloudy & raining went to S.S. & church. felt terribly tired Marlon S at church. Walked up road with Dave & Annie V Marlon D & Charlotte B. came in only D. stayed for tea. Arthur came after tea. Lizzie Forfar & M.W. down at boat for there tea. Arthur went at 10. D & I had an old fashioned talk "no. 2." It rather late when he went but Willie not home yet. Max C took him away in P.M. I talked to Annie & told her aboout D. & his prospects.

Mon 15th.. Annie & Will went down on 1st.. train. Folks up from boat shooting cherrie birds. Alf & W Coley came. Us all picking. Couple of Jerrerly pedlars called. Emma & I hoeing garden. Charlotte B. called I got letter from D Burns about going to College in Ham.

Thur 16th.. M.W. drove Lizzie to Oakville to take boat to Toronto. Dave came over to see if we wanted any more pickers as he had some from Palermo & they nothing to pick. Us busy washing. Mabel here helping us. Arthur B. called & took Ida to concert at Palermo. Dave called for a little while. Mandia & Jennie came after there S. berries To bed 9.30.

Wed 17th.. July. Picking all A.M. Ironing all P.M. Mabel & I went down to lake to have a swim. Had a fine bath. Got home 9.30

Thur 18th. / 89 Picking all day. Maggie James & her little english girl here for dinner & tea came after berries. It very hot. Writing in this.

Frid 19th.. Picking cherries. It looked like rain & did a little. M.W. canning fruit. Maria W. birthday. Sarah & Wolsley drove down in eve. Dave called & had some singing & then gave Wolsley some berries & D a piece of cherry pie. D walked all the way up to gate with lantern Talked .

Sat 20th.. Rather cool picking rasps. Then cleaning floor & c. in P.M. Expect Manuel & Jane home to night on Blandina. I writing in this. Folks all went to boat but Mabel & I kept house. E.M. & Jane got home 9 Oclock.

Sun 21st.. July. Nice day went to S.S. but didn't stay to church Had W.G. Walton & familly & E.M. & Jane all for dinner. None of them went to church. E.M. & Jane went over home for tea. Us all alone I tho't perhaps Philus would be down so sat in shanty & read till dark then Ida Mabel & I singing.

Mon 22nd.. July / 89. Picking & so dull. Bertha & I picking to gether & I found out quite a lot of news from her. D. he at her place Sun eve. & she teasing me about Philus which I'm about sure D. told her then when she tho't I tho't D told her, she tryed to make me believe different. I didn't think he would tell so much confidential news.

Tues 23rd.. Us picking all A.M. Bertha didn't come up in P.M. I waited for her & layed down & went to sleep at gate. Mr Sherdian came along for his beries so I got up & went & picked. M.L. & I went down to B. class only Mr K & us there.

Wed 24th.. July. Washing all A.M. picking P.M. In eve went to P.O. saw D. & Bertha talking so walked pass, only said "Good evening." when came out of P.O. They walked on & B. I guess went nearly home with D. I called in to see Mrs Dorland to ask her if B. could come to pick didn't stay. Marlon & Ada Shaw took Ida for a drive. I talking to them

after they came back. He asked Ida & I if we could go to Toronto on boat with them some Sat. Expect to go next Sat.

Thur 25th.. July. Bertha never came to pick as promised. She came up in eve & we alone. The reason said she was sick. Told me about Dave having a sun stroke he told her but never came near me for my sympathy. Had Mrs Alton & Sarah all day picking felt quite cheered after S. telling me all the news. Had them for tea also. Ada Bray.

Frid 26th.. July. Picking A.M. Ironing P.M. Mr Sherdian hear for tea Ida & I went over to Biggs to call on Mrs Best & Mrs John Biggs.

Sat 27th.. Picking all A.M. Then baking & doing work.P.M. Ida & Jane went over home for goose berries. Had a good bath & Mrs Jones Willie & his wife hear for tea. M.L. & I went to practise. Emily down had Frank & Willie Dorland & Geo Williams & Bertha Charlotte B. M.L. & I. Got home at 10.

Sun 28th.. Mrs Jones hear all night. Went to SS. after having nap & stayed for church. Archie walked in but only Frank W. here for tea. It rained. Us singing two Marias & Mrs Jones over to Mrs Williams for tea. Geo drove them home & took Ida F. & I out for drive around Bronte. then home. To bed quite early F. went home with Geo.

Mon 29th.. I not well. Tryed to pick but couldn't. In house baking bread. Jane M. W. drove Mrs Jones over to Brays. Mrs Wild & Josh called I up on house top writing Mosquitoes so awfully can't half write,

Tues 30th.. I picking rasps Bertha D. picking we get talking very confidential & she told me about her being up to Kennedy's Sun eve & I asked her how she was received. she said better than she expected Mrs K telling her all about her daughter dying & feeling so bad cause she tho't had no one that cared for her now, & made B. feel like trying to fill the vacancy. She told me about her engagement etc . & I told her I was awfully glad to hear it. Tho't it would be about a year from now. M.L. & I went to B. class. Marlon there he walked up road with us & Mr K & Mr Monis. Had a a great talk with Mr Kennedy & Marlon. Marlon wanted to know if Ida & I

could go on boat to Toronto on Sat. In after noon Had Mrs Jones & Mr Stuart for tea. I went out to milk & walked on over to Kennedy berry patch just coming away so as Dave saw me he came over to me with a big plug hat on. He ready to go to station so hadn't time to talk much. I only wanted to see his face to see if he looked Happy!

Thur Aug 1st.. Picking in A.M. Ada Shaw came in P. M. Jennie Wild & Mount's Wife called & we waited tea till they went It very late tea Marlon came in eve. B4 we had tea over. No singing & I played mouth organ. Had a quiet time Dick called for them about 10. & drove them home.

Frid Aug 2nd.. Picking they Ida & I doing Sat. work Folks drove up to Alfs in P.M. Dave came over we dressing to go over to their place. but looked like rain so we talked to D. I just felt like shaking him so shook him in hammock & found pipe in pocket he said it D. Brays Got talking as usual & didn't know when to stop. I waiting to see if he would be manly enought to tell me about B & himself but he didn't until I let him know I knew. Guess he afraid I go back on him cause I had to give him an answer in a months time. But when I told him what I heard He denyed it & said I'd never see the day when he would Marry B. Dorland. Before he went he rather gave in that their was something between them but not soundly. He wanted me to just be the same to him as I had been. I told him what did he want to be trifling with her affections if he didn't intend anything He said he just going to have some fun now. But guess he just fooling me. I talked pretty plain to him. It struck me B4 he left.

Sat Aug 3rd.. / 89. Up 6 Got ready & E.M. drove Ida & I down to Oakville to go on boat. Had a lovely sail. But steam pipe twisted

so was delayed some minutes on lake. Got in 10.40 went up to office but Will not there so done shoping & went up to GA's for dinner found Eliz Forfar there & Will sick. After dinner helped Annie then it time to go to boat. Marlon & Ada on it to come home together Had a lovely sail Annie & Will came up with us & Will very sick. E.M. & Jane & Blondie met us & Will & E.M. went in dry store & got some stimulent. To bed soon as could get there terribly tired.

Sun Aug 4th.. It Quarterly meeting Sun. Mr W. Pa & Annie drove to Palermo. S. & Alf came for dinner. Had a sing then they went at 3 I had a sleep & all alone in eve. Ida & I went for walk in eve then all in garden Will Annie & I on sofa talking . It 11 & to bed.

Mon 5th.. They went down on 1st.. train. Done washing. Ida over to A Brays & I called for her & we went to Kennedy's to see Mrs Jackson Dave came home with us. Wanted to know if we could go on excursion to Grimsby.

Tues 6th.. Went to B class M.L. & I saw B on street she not going to class she seemed very stiff just as if D. had warned her not to tell me any news. Only Mrs R & us there.

Wed 7th.. Alf came down for Ida to go up to help S. thrash. I went to Bronte to get ride down to B with him. Went in to Dorlands & spent the evening Lila Dudley there They came up road with me.

Thur 8th.. Picking berries on shares Lila & Bertha came up late. Pa & Mr W started for Toronto & Scarboro & New Castle driving with Kittise. E.M. & Jane & I wanted to go to M.P. garden party but had no buggy. Ada B called & I walked 1/2 way home with her. I so lonely sat down on road & thinking. Got to bed 9.

Frid 9th.. Busy all day trying to catch up with work.

Sat 10th.. E.M. & Jane went up to Street to help thrash. M.L. not well so I kept very busy all day baking & making raspberry vinegar till 4. Annie came home off 6 train. M.L. & I went to practise. Had a good sing. Arthur came home with me he hunting Dave & Archie drove ML home. Dave here but didn't

speal to him so Arthur & I talking out side till Dave went. Arthur didn't want to go in as he cross with D.

Sun 11th.. Aug. / 89. Nice day Went to S.S. Stayed for church not many out. Had a nice anthem. Dave walked up with me. Marlon drove his Mother & Miss Bleses out to church. Us standing at gate when gray horse drove up tho't it was Marlons but it was Joe N. so I got in at gate & Dave & Jane walked up. Archie drove E.M. home. Ida & Philus came B.4 tea so had Archie Dave Joe & Phil for tea. Dave went soon after tea & Joe & Phil hitched up to go to Oakville camp meeting but Joe didn't ask me to go till he came in & by this time Archie asked me so I told Joe I had just then asked just to see what he would say. he only colored up a little I got on hat & Phil & Ida went 1st.. then Joe & I. Camp meeting held in Lucas park. Had good singing & speeking. Moon light. Lots of folks there. Arthur B. there. Joe & I had a little talk coming home. I nearly forgot how to talk to him so long since he was down. But he just as pleased that I should have Phil come down as not. so left it at that. It 11 when got home. Annie home from Ingledews & getting ready to go up with Phil to Sarahs. Phil, Ida & I talking out side while Annie & Joe talking.

Mon 12th.. Washing. Girls said I cross at tea table. S Annie & Wolsley Alton came B4 we through tea. When Marlon came & us singing in parlor when Will Walton & Max C came Will stayed over Sun up there They all went but Marlon early. Will & I talking & laughed till 11. awfully tired & sleepy

Tues 13th.. Ironing & busy. Went to bed early. Annie went down on Tues eve

Wed 14th.. Lovely day picking a few more berries. Ida & I got ready &

walked up to Mr Shaw. I very tired too. Saw Dick & Marlon in field turning peas so gave them some apples. Got there after a good long time. Had a nice time stayed till 10.30 Marlon & I had a game of checkers & singing & talking. It lovely night when got in orchard got some apples for Marlon. It 11.

Thur 15th.. I baking A.M. sewing in P.M. Boys picking apples I started to write in this when Horace Frank & Aggie Wrinch came. Then Joe B. drove Ada & Alice his sisters Lucy Mathew Miss Earl got here about 9. Had a nice time played cards magic music & passed a few refreshments & apples around. It 1 Oclock B.4 they went.

Frid 16th.. Rather cold. Jane & Blondie over to Mr Brays to see & help thrash. Ida & I alone. Busy all day straightening We all had a short nap in P.M. I went to Bronte.& E.M. & Ida drove over for Jane to go to Oakville Band Concert. I all alone with Gordon & Willie. Writing in this late.

Sat 17th.. Aug I done baking & then cleaning after dinner M.L. walked home from Trillers in A.M. Ida & Jane sewing at my dress to finish it. M.L. & I went to practise. Bertha played had a good practise. Archie drove us home. He asked me to go to Oakville camp meeting Sun eve. He fooling with my hand & {wished?} ring on & we had a "tussel" Arthur B. called just as we got in house to see about borrowing dishes.

Sun 18th.. Nice day. Dave over all A.M. us picking berries & then we talking under apple tree till dinner time. S. & Alf here for dinner When we went in they through dinner but we had lunch then he went home & I got ready for S.S. Wore new dress. Had splendid sermon Walked part way up road with Bray girls then Archie asked me to have a ride so I did. He hear for tea & S. & Alf. They just going home as Phil drove up so then Phil & Archie Ida & I had a sing & Archie went

to hitch up Phil asked me to go to Oakville camp meeting so then I had to tell him that I expected to go with Archie so he said all right then he asked Ida to go with him. E.M. & Jane & M.L. went in one buggy & Archie Blondie & I in another & Phil & Ida Heard some fine speeking Mrs Bradley from Eng. spoke 1 hr. Had good singing. Lot their in park. Blondie went with M.L. after got there We came rather slow home. Archie had so much to say. "Wanted me to go home with him etc. etc." Phil had gone & other folks home when I got home. Archie wanted me to think about "it." That I would suit."

Mon 19th.. Aug / 89. Washing Ida sewing at her lace dress. Pa & M.L. went to Ham_ carnival.

Tues 20th.. I picking currants black. Baked pies etc. Went over to see Mr Kennedy to tell him didn't expect to go to B.S. class. Saw flowers came home & picked cucumbers. E.M. & Jane drove to Burlington to see fire works wanted Ida or I to go but we couldn't as Frank W. came & Bertha & Lila Dudley called till after 9. Had singing & games then a coquey. F. stayed till 10.

Wed 21st.. I washing Blondie's head Gordon -1 my own. Mrs Douglas called I cleaning Black currants & canning. Then Arthur B. called talked till 4 30

Thurs 22nd.. I baking for garden party, E.M, Jane & Gordon drove over to Ham- carnival. Ida & I alone. I busy all day. Late getting work done. Dave called to take Ida to garden party. Mr Stuart put his horse in & Archie S. put his horse in. We all went down to gether. Folks just got home as we leaving. The gourds just lighted up lovely at Mr Wilsons. Had Oakville band & the park a camp fire & light stand & large shanty all in park selling lemmade Ice cream candies etc. Lot their. B. had Emma & Ada B. Ida & Dave & Archie & I all at one table. Had a good time. No promenading in park got talking to Ida & Dave & us laughing &

teetering over a chair trying to have fun. Didn't Archie have to tell me about it coming home how he thought it "so childish" Dave & I got to gether & he telling me about his trouble How B. had gone back on him with out any apparent reason. She there but rather stiff wouldn't speak hardly. He treated me to lemmade. Got with Archie coming home Ida & John Doty walked home together It 12. when got in Dave came up behind us & came in Archie rather angry because I left him a while & went with Dave. Said he felt he was in the wrong place & wouldn't do it again. He so sedate & whimsical. I out of patience with him. Dave stayed & talked til.... Had a great talk. He stayed all night & slept in Pa's bed.

Frid 23rd.. Aug, I baking bread & got down cooking then went to bed sick. got up at 4 PM. Mrs McCay & McCraney cakked I busy till 8 Oclock. Annie came home on noon train. Pa on eve train home. Writing in this.

Sat 24th.. Aug. I baking Annie helping. Ida sewing I not very able to do much work but got through early. Ida drove to Station to meet Floe Skison she came. Then Annie E.M. & Jane went to Oakville. I going to practise & Ida & Floe walked down lane with me & we met Dave coming & he said no lights in church so I didn't go. We had some singing I done most of playing. Dave sang a few pieces Then Dave started to go & we all came out in dining room & had some taffy. Dave in cupboard eating pie & I talking to him said he got home 5.30 changed his clothes & woke folks up & his folks never knew but that he in all night. Thur eve. He went at 10.30 us girls all talked till 12.

Received your "surprise party" but am not one of those who fret, therefore to made it easy on all I hope - I guess I can say - I believe - "that none of us care and I should like if you two young ladies (you are such are you) would explain to me what caused this Racket. Did I cause it If so in what way or how _. Your poetical intellect is very powerful indeed but as for the mitten don't think it is not at Bronte's disposal as you two were the first to show us respect in any way. Sun 25th.. Aug / 89. Nice day Had bkft at 10. Floe Ida & I singing then got ready & we drove up to Sarahs It very hot & dusty had apples & eat along road. Got there at 2.30. After tea saw Philus & his father going past so I told him a lady from Toronto would like to see him so he came in & Alf went with his father down to Appleby church we all went over home with Philus no one home so went in & had a good sing came back to Alfs & hitched up Phil took Alf horse & buggy & Floe & I got in & S & Ida in our own so coming home met Alf & his father so Sarah got out & got in with them & Floe got out of our buggy & went with Ida. so Phil & I alone had a square talk coming down. Annie Ida Floe & I all had his {just?} put horse in stable . We had a lunch & he waited to say when he'd come again so we talked till 11.30. Then Annie & I talking she telling me about having Dave come & telling her all about Bertha & him she feeling sorry for him. It 1 when got to sleep.

Mon 26th.. Aug Floe hear all day only doing house work & getting dinner Ida talking to Floe all day after dinner M.L. lecturing me about D. staying all night while I getting dressed up stairs. Then Floe Ida & I in parlor tickling one another & laughing. We all went over to call on Mrs Broderick & Annie. former received us very coolly. Floe went home on eve train. Went to bed. 8.30

Tues 27th.. Washing Mrs Bray called Dr Wild had pic nic up to farm girls all went over. Ida went to station to meet Mabel Covery & Ina Steels they came up to spend a few days Blondie & Gordon hear also. I wrote letter to Allen Lovekin Arthur B. called but I to bed at 10.

Wed 28th.. I {sewing?} & busy all day. Ida & Annie went over to Mrs Williams I playing singing to get rested. {?} Dave stepped in & us talking, till E.M. Jane & all the children came over from Brays bringing Jane home. Then they went to bed at 10. We talked in parlor till Annie & Ida came home. He telling me about Bertha & how

she acted with him Sun when he went to get articles she had of his. She tho't he acted anything but a gentleman the night of the garden party tho't he sneered at her. Said no matter what she did think of him she thought nothing of him now. It 12 when he went. He wished Ida & I would go or be with him any time we hadn't any one else just to show B. he could go with someone else.

Thur 29th.. Mabel, Ina, Gordon & Pa all went fishing. I done all ironing. S & Alf came down Mrs Best & Ada Biggs called. I met him with Sarah Tho't folks glad to get me away for a while they tho't I tho't nothing could get done with out me so I thought I'd show them & I went & stayed got back last night Tues night.

Frid 30th.. Aug Helping Sarah churn bake etc. Eliza Ruth Ireland in for dinner & tea & she talked all after noon. I so sleepy. Alf S. & I drove down to Josiah Alton Alf went coon hunting. We had nice time. Had magic lantern show & we talked till 10. S had a sleep. It 12 then got home.

Sat 31st.. Aug. Arthur B. birthday Got work done early Had a bath. Wolsley came over to get hair cut, us singing & playing when Phil came. Had a great sing then Alf made me go to get a drink of water Just as I could get alone with Phil & Wolsley in the mean time just up stairs & decorated my bed with every thing then they went 10.30

Sun 1st.. Sep / 89. Up at Sarah's. Very hot day laying around. I asleep, up stairs & heard some quacking so got up & it Wolsley & Phil. we had a good sing they wanted us to go home with them for dinner but Alf wouldn't so S. wouldn't. We all went to sleep & heard a noise & who should it be but Dave & Arthur B. drove up. S & I got dinner. They said they never knew I was there. We got ready & went to M church & Dave & Arthur followed till there horse locked so they didn't get to church. Had a song service very nice. Lila & Josie out & Phil & Wolsley Gertie wanted me to ride home with them but didn't so she came in for me

after I got in from church & took me over for tea. Got some thing in my throat. Went out to barn to see milk. Then we got ready & went to church presbyterian. Wolsley, Gertie, Phil & I Mr McIntyre preached & had another song service. Got home at 9.30 Phil came in & we talked till 12. Planning about him coming down Sun & going to Exhibition etc.

Mon 2nd.. Sep / 89. S & I busy washing. Phil called on errand. I layed down undress on sofa & Gertie called & caught me asleep. Wanted me to go with them up to Springers so Wolsley came & we drove up to Laura Springers. She alone & had a nice quite time singing & playing mouth organ. Then after tea we walked up to Church & had a commitee meeting. Only 11 there to see about getting up a band concert in drill shed. Had a very nice time. Expected Phil up but he didn't get there It 11.30

Tues 3rd.. Sep. S & I busy when Pa drove up & Uncle William & Aunt Ann from Walpole. There for dinner & tea It very hot. Then they made me come home with them. S. didn't want me to come. It 7 when got home. Ida & I talked when Dave & Arthur walked through house & us talking on stoop, heard a buggy, so all came in kitchen, It Mr Triller & Emily. M.L. at Bronte but got home B4 they went Ida Arthur Dave & I talking in kitchen Dave asked me to go to Garden Party with him up at Mr Hornings Frid eve. & Arthur asked Ida. It after 10 when they went then Ida & I had to talk in W.C. Then M.L. & us talked up stairs till 11.30.

Wed 4th.. Sep. Very hot had rain in P.M. I had a generall bath in tub, head, & all over. Picked cucumbers then had a sing & finished writing this 9.

Thur 5th.. Raining cleaning shelves down cellar S & Alf here in P.M. & tea Ida & I went over to see Mrs {Fran?} Belyeas baby.

Frid 6th.. Nice cool day. I went to Bronte & down front street saw a dog "fight" & men quarrel. Baking cake etc. Dave called through after tea

to see if I very particular about going to Garden party at Mr Hornings He said much rather go to one on Street next week, so I agreeable. But after 8 O'clock he & Arthur B came alone with there buggies after we had given up about going. So got ready & went. They had Oakville Brass band & some sword dancing. Had Jacob's well etc such a lot of people I never expected to see. Joe B. & Harris B. there. All of Wrinches Sherdians the 2 Drs. & wives. & last Bertha D. & Geo Williams. It 1 O'clock when to bed.

Sat 7th.. Sep / 89. Philus Altons birthday 22. Lovely cool day. Got through work in A.M. Then Had a nap in P.M. & writing in this. Ida & I went to practise but Dave called for us, met Emma Bray & Ada Johnston coming to our place so took them to church but they only waited a little while. We finished practising then Bertha & I started off home & met Dave on side walk so Dave & I walked home with B. just to tease Geo W. After we got home talked for a while then went in & had pie etc. & Ida & I Dave just fooling & I went off up stairs When I looked out stair door Dave through some water in my face Just I going to speak Then Ida went & he & I talked till got cold standing outside **. to bed at 12.

Sun 8th.. Just as Ida & I getting breakfast Watson, Emma, Gordon Blondie & baby all came off boat. Then after while S. & Alf came Went to S.S. & church. Us washing dishes when Phil came. Us having a sing when Arthur B. came then Frank & Geo W. came so had a good sing. Phil & I went to get a drink of water as to have a chat. They went 11. F. got ride with Phil.

Mon 9th.. Done washing had Emma Bray, & Ada Johnston for tea & evening. Uncle William Atkinson & Aunty came from Toronto so had violin music

Tues 10th.. Ironing & I canning peaches. Busy all day. Went to bed early.

Wed 11th.. Sep. Uncle & Aunt went home. Frank called. picking plums etc. E.M. Jane, & I called for M.L. at Mrs Williams & drove up to Alf got their at tea time.

as they leaving for home. Phil Wolsley & Marlon came over. I stayed. Mr Alton wanted Phil to go home with him but he stayed & asked me to go to concert next night.

Thur 12th.. Sep. / 89. S & I were busy all day. Got ready for concert at eve. Alf drove us. Phil & Gertie passed us we racing for a while. Concert at Nelson drill shed & promenading to Milton band. It very nice had ice cream & pea nuts Then Phil & I drove down to Burlington station for to meet Wolsley off mid-night. Had a fine talk & lovely & moonlight. Got home at 1 O'clock.

Frid 13th.. Busy all day went to bed at 8.

Sat 14.. Sep. Got through at 4 & finish facing a quilt {hanging?} for Sarah. Mr Alton came but S & I got ready to go over home so we went & had a lovely sing & I Phil played mouth organ. Mr Alton "remarked" they go very well together I wonder if they will always go as well together" Had to strike for another time quick as possible. Phil came home with me & S & Alf together. He stayed till 10.

Sun 15th.. Lovely day very hot. Had a good sleep in A.M. S combed my hair & I hers. Ate dinner & went to church. Mr Williamson from Hamilton preached a very good sermon. About the gathering at pentecost. Got home at 4. Had tea & not quite through when Phil came so Alf & S got ready & went to Bronte while I finished work. & I packed my clothes to go home but we went to Appleby church 1st.. Joe B. there he not very nice. said he was down to B. church but none of us out so he went back again home. Had quite a chat while Phil was getting horse. We met Alf & S & they said I needn't go home till Tues so we drove on home & talked at gate after driving up & down street. He gave me his Photo & wanted some thing in return but I refused.

Mon 16th.. S & I preparing for thrashers. They came at 3 . P.m. Just there for tea. Wolsley & Gertie & Phil all over in eve. helping wash dishes then blacking faces

& such laughing. S. had the Job to wash it off boys faces. & in the mean time we putting some stuff in her bed. & when I went to bed there mine was all up set & pillows put to foot of bed.

Tues 17th.. Gertie over in A.M. to help S & I with thrashers & Wolsley helped chuck. Just had them for dinner. Then I went over home for my shawl strap which I forgot Sun eve. with my valice too but Phil carried valice over after having horse put away Sun eve. Alf drove me home & I had so much to plan & think about then got sick in night & couldn't sleep. Ida & I got ready for

Wed 18th.. Toronto & E.M. drove us up & such a terrible crowd at station to go to Exh. Frank & Ed. Joe Dave Arthur & two more. It very cold. We got with Bray girls, & could hardly get a seat but did. I not well but went. We found Allie Lovekin so went through fancy walk & had a glorious time met Liz Forfar & Wes. was with them. Then Annie came up after 4 O'clock & Ida, Allie, Annie, & I all stayed for fire works. Ida & Dave, & Arthur & {Annie?} & Allie & Frank & Joe & I, had reserve seats It rather cold. Then all went to city together but Allie & F. Arthur Dave & Joe put us girls in street car to go up to G.A.'s Had to sleep on floor. Eliz. has fever. M.W. sitting up all eve.

Thurs 19th.. Ida & I went down town shoping till noon then I took valice & went to Union Station to go to Exib. while Ida went to Aunt Eliza's I to late to find Phil so found Frank & went through {poultry?} with him & Mrs McCraney & Mrs McCay It started to rain so went to office & Phil & Archie S. came along so went to catch 5 O'clock train but couldn't get through gate so went & stayed for 7. Phil & I walked through palace & had our tea & went to 7 train. & it raining had to wait so long met Geo & Charlotte Bumby so got together & had a good time coming home. It very dark & raining so Mr Tayberell lent his lantern to us saw a man in fence corner & he cross said what was we looking at, would give us a peck in the nose if we didn't go on.

It 10 Oclock when got home. Phil stayed all night

Frid 20th.. Sep. Cold & raining. Phil got up & went home with out his breakfast. Us not very busy only cleaning out clothes I nearly ruined my dress. Ada & Charlotte Bray called. I writing in this got so far behind It 9.30.

Sat 21st.. / 89. Archie called & E.M. & I walked down to Bronte with him. I met Charlotte B. & Bertha D. so went in Dorlands & had choir practise there. It very cold night. After got home stood & talked to Archie out side till I took cold. He giving me a curtain lecture about the Garden party at Wilsons & Dave connected with it He so down on Dave for his actions that night.

Sun 22nd.. Sep / 89. Went to SS. & church. Ada B came in from church with us for tea. Us singing & talking & Ida & I went nearly home with her

Mon 23rd.. Us picking pears. Jane E.M. & I nearly all day.

Tues 24th.. Washing In eve who should come but Anson W Then Dave came before we got through supper. Us in parlor singing & talking until Anson went to bed. Then us talked by kitchen stove he telling me about Frank Dorland & him self quarrling, Said he tho't I might hear about it so would tell me himself. I sorry it happened. It 11.

Wed 25th.. I sewing baking Jane sewing carpet for her bed room Then having it just down & moving bureaus upstairs & one down. Had a good sing & Anson played mouth organ to bed 11. Ida & I trying to guess Anson's girl's name.

Thur 26th.. Sep. E.M. Jane & Anson drove to Hamilton fair. Ironing Ida & I just going to bed as Archie S came so had to sit to talk to him. I had a very bad cold could hardly speak It raining hard & Archie went

Frid 27th.. Sep /.89. I baking. Folks came home at dark. Us talking to Anson. Ida & I made some ginger yea & trying to guess Anson girl name.

Sat 28th.. I hurried through work & got ready & Anon & I drove up to Sarah's took kitty Had a lovely drive got there and stayed all night

Sun 29th.. Sep Lovely day. Drove home from Alfs about 10. Ida & Pa alone as Jane & E.M. over to Brays but they came home for dinner & Charlotte with them. C. & I went to SS. When got home from church Will & Sarah C in there at our place alon with Pa. Had Frank & " " " " for tea. Then Philus & Wolsley came so had good sing & passed grapes & pears around. Philus & I arranging for he & Gertie & Laura Springer to come down some night. They all went at 10.

Mon 30th.. Anson went home. Ida & I drove him to station & had quite a nice talk & walk B4. train came. Then Kissed good bye I missed him he is so nice around house.

Tues 1st.. Oct Dave passed through on his way home from Biggs thrashing so Ida asked him to come over on Frid eve. John Forfar came & dog.

Frid 4th.. I baking In eve Gertie Phlus & Laura Springer came. It very cold so lighted parlor stove. Dave came also. We had some fun singing & talking. Passed grapes & pears It 12 when they went.

Sat 5th.. Oct I had very bad cough but went to pracrise It very dark but went alone called in at Dorlands & Geo W. there then Emily Triller called for key of church, so we all went over, & had a good sing. Bertha & Geo. walked home with me. I gave them some grapes

Sun 6th.. Archie S. & Mr Stuart for tea. I had to milk & get tea them Jane talking to Archie while I changing dress went down in bed room found Dave in parlor talking to Ida. Archie & Arthur B. & Dave in parlor then all went out to cover up tomatoes but Archie & Jane. No singing Dave sitting near Organ after while Archie & E.M. & ourselves went out of room. I didn't come back. Then Ida & I & Dave & Arthur talking & {looking?} around. Ida & Arthur went out in pantry then D. & I talking for a while he very affectionate thinks of me as his sister.

Mon 7th.. Oct / 89. Busy all day cleaning stoal stove & putting it up

Tues 8th.. Oct. Washing cleaned garret & baked pies Jane went home In evening had Miller from Shaws Mill down to play violin. Jane & I intended going to prayer meeting Had he not come. I had to play compliments to his music. Then he went 8.30 so I got ready & run down to P.O. saw Bertha in P.O. & Dave outside with buggy so I walked up with B. Then Dave over took & asked me to get in & have a ride so I did we went around block & then home. sat in buggy & talked then he came in few minutes. Folks tho't it was Archie S.

Wed 9th.. Oct Ironing & baking

Thur 10th.. Ida & I house cleaning upstairs etc. Dave came in eve & he reading story out of paper for us. He talking on door step till 10.30

Frid 11th.. E.M. & Jane up at 4 E.M. getting off for Toronto. Ida cleaning Pa bedroom.

Sat 12th.. E.M. got back at noon with groceries etc. I went to practise only Geo. W. there keeping on fires so talked to him then singing when Dorlands came. We had a splendid sing. Bertha D & Geo coming home with me when Dave stepped up so he came up home with me. I sat down & talked & red paper

Sun 13th.. Oct. Went to S.S. it nice day. Lot out to church. Harris Bumby, Charlie Stevenson & Joe B. at church. Mr Clark from Milton preached missionary sermon. very good. We had lots of singing. Had both ministers for tea & S & Alf hear so I going home with them so left B4 tea. Just getting over tea up on Street when Philus came in & so gave him some chillysause which I bro't up from Bronte Then we got through work we all went over home, & had a sing then Philus came back with me & we talked till 11. on that terrible subject "Tobacco chewing" etc. He willing to quit it if for somebody's sake, so he knew I disliked it very much.

Mon 14th.. Oct / 89. I helping S. wash & church etc.

Tues 15th.. I cleaned stove then sitting room. Had Lila over in P.M. just got through cleaning room Then Win Dodson & her Aunt called. Then Gertie came then Philus & they just going home at 9, when rap came to door & who should it be but Dave & Arthur. It Daves birthday he 23 years old. They didn't put horse in for quite a while then Phil & Dave did while they out to barn Gertie & I put cup of water over door with string tied to it. they came back. Dave came in 1st.. then Phil had on plug hat & he hit it & down it came. Then we had refreshments then Dave doing some tricks made a piece penny spin on a cork in a bottle with two forks ballooning it. Gertie & I went out to barn & Alf told us where to look in hay for some thing they bro't up with them so we found a skirt, bussel, & cap which they intended to dress up in so Dave came running out & we made him dress up & go to house. They said they called for Ida & wanted her to dress up in boys clothes & Dave in girls clothes & Arthur would be preacher & marry them, but Ida didn't go with them. While Dave went to house dress up to show Sarah, Gertie & I stayed & was going to take wheel off wagon but couldn't find winch. so we filled cushion with pins & when they came back & let us out they suspected something so they looked & found pins then they hitched up ready to go & when got at house Gertie unwrapped line so Arthur had to get out & fix it We didn't care what we done for mischief on Dave for it his birthday It 11.30 when they went.

Wed 16th.. Oct. "Proceeds of evening on next page! I washed curtains & Alf butchering then I cleaning window

Thur 17th.. I cleaning pantry & all up set when Emma from Hamilton & Wallace's Sarah drove out from H. with baby so hurried & got straightened up & got dinner & they stayed all night. I put up curtains in P.M. They doing some sewing. I went to be early at 9. They sit up laughing.

Frid 18th.. Oct. Sarah from H. very sick Emma waiting on her They got ready & went home at 11. Then S & I went to work at dining room I white washed it & {?} bedroom. I writing in this when Louise Alton & Phil & Gertie came over & I ran up stairs with book & hid it under bed & they all came running after me & shut us in bedroom & Phil hung his hat on nail which my night dress was on. Then we went down stairs & had some music & Louise got dancing so she had us all up dancing. I so tired to bed 10. I should have mentioned that Wed night last 16th.. that Mr Alton had a small party & invited us over, Miss Laura Springer Miss Susan Springer Miss Stuart, Miss Plethesson & Louise Gertie & I & Dave & Arthur & Phil were the boys we played games & had a big time. It 12 when it broke up & Phil came home with me & we talked about tobacco, but he not willing to promise faithfully to stop he would try with out.

Sat 19th.. Oct I finishing cleaning bedroom & pantry & it 3 P.M. B4 got through & I going to paint floor but couldn't get brush to work. Geo Alton called to get his hair cut then Wolsley Gertie & Louisa came & Gertie etc. put on Alf over coats buttoned up behind & went down to Geo Altons & found them all in bed but Maggie got up & lit lamp & we talked then Phil came, Louise just kept us all a laughing. We girls ran nearly all the way home from boys. Went in & had a sing & play then to bed 10.

Sun 20th.. Mr Alton over for a while in morn. S & I got ready & Alf drove is home to B. but I didn't bring any clothes for Sarah intended to stay instead. When got home wouldn't let me go again back with Alf. Archie Forfar hear over Sun. I went to S.S. & church. Only Ida Archie Pa & I for tea E.M. & Jane up to Blanchards. Evening so long us singing then I ready to go to bed when Dave came walked in so talked to him Ida & I till 10. Street folks expected me back there in evening as they expected company.

Mon 21st.. Oct. Ida's birthday Busy all day. Jane & I out sorting apples.

Tues 22nd.. " / 89. Washed, then Jane & I out at apples. Go bed early.

Wed 23rd.. Got ironing done Then out all day sorting apples

Thur 24th.. Oct Alf bro't Johny down. Jane & I picking wine grapes in A.M. Ida fixing my dress. Then I got ready & went up with Alf so had tea with Sarah. Alf he went to Burlington to meet Wolsley for they going to have a party over home so S. & I got ready & started such a crowd there all these brothers & wives cousins & Aunts off M{?} road had a lovely time Jane & E.M. & Ida drove up & Ida stayed but I came home with them. It 3 A.M. when got home had to set bread. They played magic music, the miller, {grount?}, guessing games & last of all chrades which was splendid. Will Alton walked over with Ida & I to Alf's.

Frid 25th.. Very tired & sleepy, baking. Wallace Atkinson here drove down for apples, so I had to talk to him till 10.30 after E.M. & Jane playing on violin & organ.

Sat 26th.. Johny Forfar went home on 1st.. train & Wallace drove home at 9. Didn't get through work till 3. Then Jane & I out sorting apples in barn M.L. came home. I went to practise, Archie called for me & Dave hear so I went with Archie we drove but I excused myself from Dave. Boys fixing organ when got there but Had a practise Emily down. Archie drove Bertha home we went around block B4. going home. Then he drove me around block after taking her home. Had a great talk about him leaving so abruptly the Sunday night when D & Arthur here.

Sun 27th.. Up at 9 & I doing work up stairs when Philus drove Ida home & called for me to go to Oakville to John Altons so we got ready & went got there at dinner time. Found Louisa, Sarah & Niece home & John Robert B. & John Alton home. We had a lovely time, had a good sing in P.M. after T all got ready & drove to Oakville church Heard Mr Kettlewell preach. When out side saying Gord might be there & said Good night "Mr Doty" They all laugh

It 9.30 when got home. Phils put his horse in & got warm he went at 10.

Mon 28th.. Oct / 89 Jane & I out sorting apples got nearly done. I down in lane getting crate when Dave same along so he helped me carry it up to house. He only stayed few minutes & they went to lodge. I finished cap & to bed 10.

Tues 29th.. Oct Ida over to Mrs Ingledews Williams sewing. Jane & I washing. Arthur B called for me to go to prayer meeting & only got outside when met D. But Dave walked over to church but didn't go in. Quite a lot out. Dave caught up to us coming home. Said he'd been trying to see me for so long to have a talk but couldn't. He accusing me for sending him that receipt for a moustache but I think Arthur told him but he wouldn't let out on Arthur.

Wed 30th.. Baking & ironing. Had Mrs Bray call & Oliver Horning Ida & M.L. went to Dr. I went to B. in P.M. called in at Dorland Mr D said "it a wonder I did call at all." Didn't stay long. Alf came for Ida so she went.

Thur 31st.. It raining. In eve went to bed early. It Halloween. I crochet a pair of cuffs for Pa

Up early out milking when saw cows discovered my name in large letters painted on white cow & Ida name on the other & the chimney stuffed up with vines so that the house full of smoke & the shed doors blocked up. We suppose it Dave & Arthur who done it. Jane went over home just M.L. & I hear she making pickles. In eve I writing in this I got 1 month behind so just caught up to night.

Sat 2nd.. Nov / 89. Rainy all day. boiling cider etc. baking. I had good sing after tea. I writing in this when E.M. called me to look when their he had Jane dressed up in his clothes & I nearly took a fit she so comical in his clothes.

Sun 3rd.. Nov / 89. Lovely day. We hurried & got bkft over then M.L. & I got ready & drove up to M.P. church quarterly meeting. As we drove up Austin S. put our horse away. & met Frank outdoor. Mr Kettlewell preached good sermon. Joe B. there & I talking to him awhile. He said he

heard I was at party at Mr Altons etc. We gave Mrs Ingledew a ride home she had walked up. She came in & we had a lunch & I went to S.S. with her. When got home S & Alf hear. & Dave for tea Us in parlor talking & Bertha D. called but Dave didn't care to go out to see her so she went & E.M. went home with her & went on Dorlands vessel to Toronto. Dave & I talked tll 10.30. He tho't he had come once to often for he could tell by my actions that I didn't care so much to talk to him, he telling me about expecting to go away for the winter. He let me have the essay he wrote on courtship to keep & He just looking at me all the time I asked him what he was looking for, & he said he wondered what it was he loved so much in me. He said I only friend he had left.

Mon 4th.. Nov / 89. Monday I had to leave washing & go & collect quarterage for Pa so I went around village & got home dinner time. Then Pa wanted me to go over to corner & give money to Mr Triller I went but didn't see him went to P.O.

Tues 5th.. Nov In P.M. Jane & I drove to Oakville It rather cold got back in time to go to prayer meeting. I went early & called for Bertha but she couldn't go as she having practise there for tea meeting. I went & Archie, Dave, Bray girls there but no one to lead so I gave out hymn books & started tunes & Archie read the hymn. Ada & Charlotte & Dave & I walked up road then Dave came through with me. To bed at 10.

Wed 6th.. Nov Jane & I working at our Organ we tuned & cleaning it but didn't get through till Jane went to station to meet E.M. & Annie. So no talking in parlor till bedtime.

Thur 7th.. Thanksgiving day. & a lovely day so warm & fine Joe Correy Arthur & Herbert came then Alf Sarah & Ida in morning but men folks all took there dinners &

went shooting so just us girls. We finished fixing organ It seemed so nice for us 4 to meet together again. We cooked a hot supper for shooters & then Alf & S went home & Annie, Ida. & I had a sing then got ready & went to tea meeting in Our church but for Baptist benefit. Archie S. there & Dave & Arthur & Charlotte so Dave & Arthur showed us to a seat up in front. Mrs Jeffrey recited & it splendid Mr Stuart spoke & Mr Williams chairman but came out B.4. it quite out. It 11 when got home.

Frid 8th.. Nov /.89. Jane & Ida sewing at Jane dress. I doing house work. Had Mr Abram & Mr Dorland hear with violin's so had some fine music. They went at 10,

Sat 9th.. Nov Nice calm day. I baking & doing house work so tired Charlotte Bray & Ada called to go to practise also Archie so M.L. & us went. Only Bertha her bro. & Geo W. there had a practise. Archie walked up with me I teasing him about Miss Hallet. Herbert & Arthur went home on evening train. Got letter from Allie.

Sun 10th.. Nov. Went to S.S. & church. Stayed for class Got ride up with Preacher. Had Mr Stuart, & Frank W. & Mr McGilvery for tea but they all went to church with preacher. Jane Ida & I having a sing when Philus came. So Phil & I had a small chat then he took Ida home at 10 to Street. He promised to stop chewing for 2 months.

Mon 11th.. I not very well so didn't wash. I making snow apple Jelly

Tues 12th.. Washing Alfs birthday. Lovely day. I boiling soap in P.M. M.L. & I went down to prayer-meeting. Dave & Arthur there but they didn't stay till it out.

Wed 13th.. Ironing. Charlotte B. called in P.M. & Bertha D. also. Bertha gave us some nice music she went home at dark. No pealing apples.

Thur 14th.. Pa M.L. & Jane drove up to Street to shoting match. I alone ironing & went to P.O. in P.M. Jane & Pa got home for tea.

Frid 15th.. Nov / 89. Jane & I busy all day I baking pies. & churning Charlotte B. & Miss Smoke called in A.M. I went to P.O. Dave came over in evening & had a talk but he very quiet. E.M. playing on violin.. D. talking about Bertha & her having a false note showing to her friends about Dave with his name signed to it. He wanted to know if I had seen the note. He went at 10.30 It very cold & frosty.

Sat 16th.. Nov Jane & I hear to do work. Got through at 2 P.M. I went to meet M.W. on 6 train. Dave there he going on train & coming on 7 train back. Archie called to go to pracrise so I went. M.L. not home she in Street. Emily there all but Dorlands brothers. Had Mr Abrey there to fix organ. Archie & I went for a drive around block & to P.O. He wanted to know if he could come Sun eve. & I said not to come if he wasn't at church.

Sun 17th.. Nov / 89. Nice day. S. & Alf drove M.L. home. Jane & I got dinner. I went to S.S. & styed for church. Joe Frank & Harris there Had such a spell of laughing at some children coughing Joe laughing too. Hurried out of church expected to go home with Alf but Joe Frank & Harris up for tea so folks didn't want me to go. Alf didn't like it because he waited for me. I entertaining them in parlor while girls got tea. Then after tea us all in parlor when rap came to door & there it Archie but he wouldn't tale off his coat. So had a sing & Joe wanted to go to church but Frank didn't but I didn't want to go being the only girl to go with them 3 fellows. Had a real nice time. Joe asked to take me up to Street on Mon eve. if fine. To bed 10.

Mon 18th.. Nov / 89. Raining. we washed & sewing in P.M. Joe didn't come

Tues 19th.. first salute was Alf called for bkft he had arrived from Street by 6.30. he came after me, we all tho't something the matter with S. I got ready & went. It rather rainy. Got up at 8.30. Wed 20th.. Nov / 89. Alf & Mr Alton drove in to Ham. to have a duck shoot It rained very hard. Philus came over in evening & had a nice time.

Wed 20th.. Nov. Ida & I helping S. wash. Ida put quilt on frame I baking in P.M. S. went over home. Alf got home at dark only got 2 ducks.

Thur 21st.. Nov / 89. Had Gertie over to help quilt. Had turkey for dinner. In eve Phil came & us girls dancing & Singing we pop corn & Ida & Phil down cellar after turkey so I went down & Ida locked Phil & I in cellar. Then after we got out he malling her on floor. Gertie & I got dressed up in Alfs clothes & came down & jigged around. I broke S. glass pitcher in my fooling.

Frid 22nd.. Ida & I finished quilt & put on another & finished it before returning.

Sat 23rd.. Got work done. In eve. Gertie Wolsley & Phil came over & we had a real nice time playing & fooling. Alf barbaring

Sun 24th.. Up pretty good time. Ida & I went over home to Gertie's intending to go & bush but just got behind barn when it rained so went in barn & got weighed. Then went in house & ate hickory nuts & played & sang till dinner Then after dinner we went back to S. & got dressed & Phil & Gertie & Mrs A called for us to go with them to Old Mrs Clines funeral but Alf took Ida home so I went. Very large funeral went to house first then drove to church Appleby church full. Prof Cline

sang beautifully & Mr Forman preached from text "We spend our years as a tale told cXIX Ps. Then we all walked to grave. Saw Joe & he wanted to know how I got up St. Got home at 5. Alf back. After tea I reading & Phil came He stayed "Said he'd quit chewing." if that would be one point nearer perfection.

Tues 26th.. / 89 Alf butchering I baking & Ironing in P.M. Maggie A came in P.M. & stayed couple hrs.

Wed 27th.. Nov. / 89. S. & I rendering out lard etc. all day Geo Alton called in few minutes. Snow rather deep.

Thur 28th.. Nov. Busy all day with lard etc. Phil came over in eve. Us reading & laughing. He went to P.O. brought me a card from M.L. telling us about tea meeting at Bronte.

Frid 29th.. Phil called for Alf & they went fox hunting away all day I baking & very busy all day. I washed my hair.

Sat 30th.. Nov / 89. Hurring all A.M. to get through. Had 2 extra men for dinner. Alf drove me home in P.M. Phil drove his Ma over to stay with Sarah while Alf away. We got home about 3. Girls all sewing. I glad to get home. M.W. went back with Alf. M.L. Ida & I went to choir practise & his. meeting Had a good sing. Archie drove M.L. & I home. Ida & Charlotte walked.

Sun 1st.. Dec / 89. Went to S.S. & church. Stayed for class & Archie S drove me home & hear for tea. E.M. & Jane Went up to M.P. church. Archie & I having a sing Dave came but Dave didn't stay long went out in kitchen to get a drink & I talking to him. Archie & E.M. in kitchen smoking. Dave telling me about having got a letter from George he in New Jersey.

Mon 2nd.. Dec / 89. Washing & baking for tea-meeting. I baking tarts. M.L. Ida & I went to practise Emily down & her Pa. Had to wait a long time for boys to come they over in Mr McE practising band music. B. Ida & I went to meet them. It raining very hard when going home. Charlotte & Emma here.

Thurs 3rd.. Ironing Dave called in A.M. Jane & Ida went down to Hall to help fix tables. Arthur B. called. It nice day. Philus & Gertie came down to go to tea-meeting It awful cold night. We had our tea at first tables didn't do any visiting. Then Ida & I went over to sing in church & left Phil & Gertie & Arthur & Emma to go to a seat. Had Mr Wakefield to adress the people. Got home at 11. Bronte boys played couple of pieces on band. Mr Wakefield stayed all night. Phil & Gertie left 11.30. Dave & Arthur hear. Dave walked up with Maria & Arthur with Gertie & Phil I Ida & Mr. Wakefield. Made $31. Roads very rough.

Wed 4th.. churning. Went down to Mr Wilsons they having a social for S.S. Dave & Arthur walked down with us. Quite a lot out. Archie S there. Dorlands & no song. Made over $4. Got home 11. We played games E.M. had his violin Dave & Arthur didn't stay.

Thurs 5th.. E.M. & Jane went to Oakville in P.M. & bo't a new stove.

Frid 6th.. Lovely day. I baking Jane drove over home, for sausage machine. We made sausage. Brays girls & Gussy Bray came in P.M. hear for tea. & had violin music in eve. they went early. I writing in this not very well.

Sat 7th.. / 89. Joe B.'s birthday. It a lovely warm day got through early had Mr Abery for dinner he played on violin.

Sun 8th.. Dec / 89. Rainy sunday. I slept from 11. to 3. didn't go out at all. E.M. & Jane went to church Mr Yorstone preached. We eating tea when Dave & Arthur walked in us having a sing & Dave playing on mouth organ. Arthur started before D. did, as D. walked in room & wanted to ask me if I was still the same. But he went at 10.

Mon 9th.. Washing everything as usual.

Tues 10th.. I baking Alf bro't M.W. home I went to P.O. & saw Bertha D. she showing me her dialogue bonnet & dress & music. M.L. went back with Alf.

Wed 11th.. Girls sewing at wrappers.

Thur 12th.. E.M. Jane & M.W. drove to Hamilton got off at 10. Ida & I left to keep house. It lovely day. I went for ferns over to Hixsons.

Frid 13th.. Dec / 89 Baking Folks got back at dark such a lot of purchasing coats; hat, groceries etc. I sent Floe a birthday card of dried pansys & ferns.

Sat 14th.. Dec. Floe Skinners birthday she 18. Us all flying around cleaning dining room, & it a very stormy snowy day got all done before dark I playing & singing Archie S. called & I went to practise called at Bertha's & we went over to church Archie came out of P.O. & we walked over together only Geo W. there Frank & Willie D. we talked & sang B telling me some secrets & Archie wanted to know what it was us sitting around stove getting warm Geo blew out lamps. Got home at 10.30.

Sun 15th.. Nice day reading about Crossley & Hunter went to S.S. & church Clarence Lucas & his wife out to church Frank. W Mr McGilvery & Dick Shaw. Charlotte & Bertha walked up to gate. Had Will Alton Kate Blanchard & Ada B & Charlotte for tea. Had a quiet eve they went home early.

Mon 16th.. Dec. Very busy washing & cleaning. M.W. & Ida papering up stairs It raining I writing in this. Laughing about me trying to tell sermon on Sun.

Tues 17th.. Dec / 89. Bertha D's birthday she 18. Raining E.M. & I went to S.S. & prayer meeting (called in hall & saw Bertha & Ida Triller they practising for concert. Got home 10.

Wed 18th.. Dec Ironing when Alf came through rain & told us about S's little baby girl. We had to guess it first B.4. he told us. M.W. went back with him. Us girls couldn't hardly work. E.M. Jane & I went to Band concert sat beside Austin & Archie. Frank there & Horace. Had a splendid time the lodge got it up & had a splendid programme dialogue, singing & instrumental music. Dave walked home with me & he not very well so I gave him some thing to eat It 12 to bed.

Thur 19th.. Dave called in A.M. with my rubber which he found in the hall & a bustle spring which didn't belong to me. Ada Bray hear in P.M. I went down to see Alice Joyce she very sick. Us girls all stirring raisins for Xmas cake then had some violin music, & organ & Ada stayed all night.

Frid 20th.. I baking pies. Jane & Ida making Xmas cake.

Sat 21st.. Nice day. Ida went to Ham- 9 E.M. to Toronto 1st.. train I baking & crocheting in P.M. Jane finished her coat. I drove up to station to meet Annie & E.M. Saw lots of folks but not to speak too. Ida & Gordon came. She gave me slippers & {croits?} etc.

Sun 22nd.. Very windy day I went to S.S. & church I gave my class all a handkerchief a piece. Only Bertha & I in choir with boys & Archie came in choir. I hardly knew him as he shaved clean Geo W. drew his picture in {took?}. Had a S.S. meeting after church & it late when got home. Archie walked up with me but didn't come in had Minister for tea. All eve alone. I wrote letter to Allie to bed 9.

Mon 23rd.. Dec / 89. Very busy washing, cleaning, & churning. I very tired & making hat crown for Philus. Jane cleaning silver ware etc. Dave called on his way to lodge. I making Xmas cards of pansys.

Tues 24th.. Dec Baking & Ironing & Ida & Annie making Xmas presents It raining all day. Dave called in P.M. & he helping to decorate parlor with evergreens. I making perfume bags upstairs then I in Pa room writing on Xmas cards & Dave came in & he set down on bed & talking told me Bertha had joined lodge. I went to milk & he came in barn & talked while I milking. Us girls decorating sitting room & Xmas tree. To bed 11.

Wed 25th.. Dec Xmas day. Lovely bright day. E.M. & I drove to Bronte & to Mrs Joyces & Wrights with Xmas loaf of bread went in P.O. & I got Xmas card from Frank & I bot one there & sent to him & send one to Ella McCay also. Then took one over to road for Mail Johny to post at Merton for Joe. Ate Xmas dinner with Ida, Annie, Pa & I.

Thur 26th.. Dec Jane E.M. & Annie drove up to Street it a very windy day Annie stayed & M.W. came home. Telling us about S. baby & showing M.W. here Xmas presents. In A.M. E.M. at school meeting so didn't start for Street until after noon. I dying some moss green for decorating

Frid 27th.. E.M. to Kennedys helping kill pigs In P.M. I decorating verandia post when Geo W. came on horse back for collecting I showed him our Xmas tree. He just going away when Dave K came over to help our pigs. Jane & I cleaning the intestines Had some fun in shop with them & Dave

Sat 28th.. Dec / 89 Very busy all day washing frying out fat baking moving stoves & pipes etc. Hurring up as Annie C came on noon train & us not half through work. Archie S called to go to practise & Dave also called as I going in room to speak to Archie S. & going to take Annie she back out & I went alone. Ida Archie Dave & I went down to P.O. together. Archie acting so silly let the gate go slam on Dave & Ida's face. I cross & tired wouldn't let him help me alone Emily down & had practise Archie walked up with me Ida Dave & Arthur Archie didn't come in Dave reading over some of his dialogues to me. M.W. & Annie went to bed & left Ida & I.

Sun 29th.. Dec It raining Had Mr Jakes Page to preach for us a new student in Mr Stuarts place. It very windy Stayed for class. Dave walked up with me & my hat blew off he had to run to catch it. Had Walter Sherdian & Minister for tea. Had a sing before they went. Then I done milking Annie C & I had a good sing till bed time.

Mon 30th.. Dec / 89. Making sausages & had meat, churning etc. baking cake for New Years in kitchen all day

Tues 31st.. Dec Working in kitchen all day so sick of it Jane baking tarts & Ida lemon pies. Mercy & Wesley & 3 children came on noon train. Had to get their dinner after ours Mr Stuart came for tea Had tabel full He He going to prayer meeting I going to bed at 10. & band struck up at our place & played two or three pieces I went down in my drawers & Elizabeth Walton & Annie C. tryed to put me out so band boys came to see me. By the time band boys through playing I got dressed.

Wed 1st.. Jan 18.90 New Years day rather a very rainy day Willie W. came on mid night train & had lot for breakfast as E.M. went to meet Watsons family & they there for breakfast then G.A. came too so had all home as we intended once more. Pa read & prayed a nice prayer with all his family He feeling very thankful they all spared to meet again. W.G. started shooting clay pigeons & it raining. Alf drove M.L. & Annie down I helped get dinner & E.M. went to station to meet wedding & they came Eliz Forfar Archie & Bella first in time for dinner Ida & I had to wait on table & I so tired. Had a large turkey & goose for dinner celery & cran berries etc. It after 3 when got through dishes. Ida & I talking to Bella. Alf started home at 5. & Eliz Forfar & I came up with him. Saw the baby think it looks just like Sarah. Raining nearly all the way up.

Thur 2nd.. Jan / 90. I churning & helping S. she not very strong.

Frid 3rd.. Baking & E.M. drove Wesley Mercy Archie Bella M.W. & Annie C. up & us nearly done dinner so had to get another dinner. Had Irelands girls to call. Folks didn't stay for tea roads so bad. Annie C stayed & Eliz went back. Had Mr & Mrs Walker in evening.

Sat 4th.. Jan. Had Mr Alton call with Bride & Groom Mr & Mrs Bosfield in morning 1st.. thing. Had work to go after dinner Annie C talking & entertained us all evening so well. Expected Phil over but didn't come.

Sun 5th.. Raining part of day. Phil came over 1st.. I had seen him for a month. Alf drove Annie to Bronte Phil went home for dinner. I had a good sleep, all P.M. In eve Phil came over & Had a good talk. He said he found out what he tho't of one after not seeing me for so long. He Homesick over me.

He gave me a large package of candies & some oranges & telling me all about the wedding up at Walpole he & Gertie attended.

Mon 6th.. Jan / 90. I baking. so nothing else happened except Alfs man cut his foot & Mr Alton over to bind it up I bound it up first. Alf away it election day.

Tues 7th.. Jan / 90. In morn Had Mrs Geo Alton call & Mrs Joseph too to see baby. Phil & Gertie hear & us cutting up when Dr Buck & Herbert from Milton came to see Ed sore foot. I rather tired as I washing.

Wed 8th.. Ironing. I got ready & went over to Philuos' Gertie alone but Josie & Lila there. Us having a sing. I stayed for tea Mr & Mrs Alton home for tea. Then we had another sing & Phil came home with me. Very cold.

Thur 9th.. Jan Geo Alton & Mr Geo McCarley came in evening. Had accordian music & mouth organ too. It 10 & to bed.

Frid 10th.. Butchering Baking & sweeping. Phil came over I glad he did for it so lone some Had a good talk It 10. when he went. Then I got Alf breakfast ready after ch{ores?}

Sat 11th.. Jan Alf & Mr Alton drove to Hamilton with pigs etc. It rained nearly all day. Alf said Maria W. was in Hamilton.

Sun 12th.. Nice day. Phil came over in A.M. to see if I would go to Bronte then he went home & got ready & we started about 10. Got there at 12. Had a nice drive & they got dinner rather glad to see us. Lois Jones there boarding while teaching school. M.L. E.M. Jane & I went to S.S. Mr Hallet superintendant & it much better. Stayed for church all choir there but Charlotte Phil & Ida & Lois came together. Had splendid sermon & good singing Walked over to corner with Bertha then Dave caught up to us & came in with Phil. We had a small sing then Dave went home to do chores but I told him to come back after wards so we had tea & I going to light fire in parlor when Dave sitting in arm chair alone. He & I sang & couldn't get the rest to have a sing as they planning who was to go

back with Phil & I didn't want Ida to go & leave me, & M.L. intended going only to cold for her so it feel to my lot to go back again with Phil so we started about 8.30. Dave rather surprised to see me go. Had a lovely drive so warm & talking about Ninna Dent & Joe B. etc. Got back 10.30 Phil said he could not forget that day.

Mon 13th.. Jan / 90. A terrible windy day us washing couldn't put clothes out. I working hat crown etc. when Phil walked up to window with his colt he very near saw it.

Tues 14th.. Jan Lovely day & fine I getting out clothes when Phil went past. Just got our dinner over when E.M. Jane & Ida came bro't Pa's new lounge. Had to get them their dinner. Baby very cross. Ida sewing at Jacket. She & I up stairs talked she telling me about Sun I wasn't home Joe & Frank at church & inquiring about me being home. She & I hadn't very much time to talk as E.M. drove home at 4. She expecting to go to Hamilton to stay. Phil & Gertie came over in eve & Geo McC. No reading & laughing & singing & playing. Then set head at 10. They went.

Wed 15th.. Jan A very dull day baking & ironing & very tired & had a nap in P.M. baby has a bad cold. I writing in this not since Xmas.

Thur 16th.. Jan. Phil & Gertie called to take me up to Literary at Nelson so I went. But they didn't have any as not enough out. Got home at 8.30

Frid 17th.. Expected Phil & Geo to go down to Bronte to have a skate but had a snow storm all day so I dissipointed. Alf over home butchering Sat 18th.. Got work done up quite early. Sarah took baby and walked down to Geo Altons. Then Gertie called & Phil & we all went to Geo Altons had a nice time singing S & Alf went home B4. us Gertie went home alone & Phil came in with me. I asked him to come over Sat eve & wear Christy hat so he took the hint I had something for him. I had Lila Alton called in afternoon she wanted to know if she could leave her baby with Sarah on Sat while she went to Hamilton.

Sat 18th.. Jan 1890 1st>.. noise I heard was baby crying It Lila's Alton baby she left it with S. about 5.30 A.M. & we had to mind both & do our work on Sat we had a terrible time I baking & had to leave it & nurse child. It very cross I so tired it 5 O'clock PM when they came for it. Wolsley came home with them.

Sun 19th.. / 90. S. & Alf got ready & drove to Bronte 1st.. ttime since 8 weeks for Sarah to be at Bronte. It lovely day. I laying down to have a nap when Wolsley came to ask me over to go to church with them but I hadn't my hat with me so couldn't go. I slept all P.M. Then Alf came back we had tea & we went over to Mr Altons to have a sing. Alf went home and left me so Phil came home with me through rain and he stayed and talked till nearly 12. Alf said he met Joe & Frank walking down to church.

Mon 20th.. Jan I keeping house for Alf Had Mr John Breckon call & Phil brot over my hat. I wrote letter to Anson Mr Geo Mc came & talked till 10 about tobacco, dancing & painting.

Tues 21st.. I put out clothes to get dry when Gertie came over & asked me to go over to Josie in P.M. so I went & called for her & had a nice time she & Josie made taffy we stayed for tea then Phil came over in eve & us looking at cards then having some music. It very cold. took Gertie home 1st.. then he came over to Alf with me. They had a laugh at me over to Josies for when I went to kiss their baby I said "won't you kiss your Auntie?" & they said now I know which one it is.

Wed 22st.. Jan / 90. S . & I. talking could hardly get work done she telling me news from Bronte.

Thur 23nd.. Nothing more than usual Phil bro't his photos from P.O. to show us.

Frid 24rd / 90. Alf away all day killed chicken for market after tea & us picking them when Phil & Geo Alton came Hurried & got done then us had some music & talking Geo Alton picked up Sarah's breast glass off window & looking at it but didn't ask what it was. S & I didn't know what to say. They making arrangements to go to Bronte to have a skate Sat eve.

Sat 25th.. Jan / 90. Nice day Just washing dinner dishes when Geo & Phil came over to say they would go to Bronte if wind decreased: But just got work done when E.M. Jane & M.L. drove up so I came home with them didn't wait for Geo & Phil to call got home 7.

Sun 26th.. Sitting studying S.S. lesson. Mr Shephard from Millgrove preached a very young man in Mr Stewarts place. Had Mr Sheph and & Mr Johnson another young man for tea Then they went to MP in eve. Us all reading in even no one hear went to bed early. Archie drove me home from church.

Mon 27th.. Washing Jane & E.M. went up to Will Clines in P.M. & I called on Dave K he very sick in bed with La Grippe. Sat in his bed room talking quite a while seemed very pleased that I called on him I then went over to Mr Brays to see Ada & Charlotte they both sick. Didn't stay long.

Tues 28th.. Jan It lovely night Archie called to go down for a skate so we called for Bertha & went Had a lovely skate. Geo Alton & Birdie Lucas came also so we played "crack the whip" on skates. They went home early We went home with Bertha & had some music & played & sang till 12 till 12. Didn't know it was so late. Archie tho't he struck it right for once. He having a tussel again.

Wed 29th.. Nice day but thawed ice so couldn't skate. I rather tired all day.

Thur 30th.. Jane sewing at my dress. Dave came in P.M. sat & talked tiill tea time then he went home He getting better he said. Lois & I made taffy in eve.

Frid 31th.. Doing house work. Us sitting around working in eve & hear some thing like a stone being throwed at window so it Dave & Arthur outside Jane went to door & spoke rather sharp so they came in they said tho't she was mad so came in to see. They sat & talked till after 10. I gave them tarts & cake.

Sat 1st.. Feb. M.W. baking. I drove to Bronte & done some shoping saw F.S. W. & called on Mrs McKay she very sick. Came home & washed my head. Frank came & hear for tea He helped me milk. Arthur called to go to skate but I couldn't go. Archie also called to go to skate or practise so Frank & Arthur went ahead & Archie & I behind. Had a very good Practise. Frank at practise. I thanked him for Xmas card.

Sun 2nd.. Feb 1890. Quarterly meeting Sun. A very nice Sun. Up rather early & All went to church at 10.30. Alf drove M.L. home in time for church. Quite a lot out Wrinches Joe B. Sherdians from Palermo bro't Lois down she went up friday night. The choir had lots of singing to do. We didn't get home from church till 2 P.M. Joe walked up with me just he & Alf for dinner. Us washing dishes when Dave came E.M. talking to Joe in room so I told Dave to go in too till after we had work done. Then I asked them all down in parlor but Joe only came so we talked about Xmas card etc. & about his trip to Buffalo then Dave came down & talked a little while but said he had to go home to do chores so he went. I didn't go out to see him off as I usually do. Guess he angry cause he hasn't been over since, and it over a week now, at the time I over visiting. Joe hear for tea I got tea ready, at 6. M.W. didn't intend to get any when I came out of parlor but I soon got it ready seems as if she didn't care about getting meals when Joe hear. E.M. played some on his violin & I on organ after tea. Then Joe & I had a fine talk on sofa. he apologize that he hadn't use me right. Tho't no one suited him as well so that he would come I didn't say whether he could or not. He seemed to show his feeling more than B.4. It 11.30.

Mon 3rd.. Feb / 90 Jane not home she went up to street with Alf, we washed E.M. making fence. Arthur B. called to go to tea-meeting at Oakville Methodist church. It lovely night so I went Had a very nice tea & drive Dr Carman lectured on "Trade & get Rich." Mr McGilvey had Lizzie White there. Not many I knew. Got home at 12.

Tues 4th.. Feb / 90. E.M. drove up to Street for Jane & took M.L.

Wed 5th.. Feb Very windy. Lottie Breckon married to Will King Joe was going up he going to be groom man.

Thur 6th.. Feb I went down for skate in P.M. called for Bertha we had a splendid skate down by mill.

Frid 7th.. Snowed all day. Ada Bray came she stayed all night Bronte Brass Band had a concert but no one went. We had singing & playing on organ & violin in our hall.

Sat 8th.. Feb. Hurried & done work. E.M. & M.W. went to Bronte in sleigh. Then he drove Lois, Jane, Ada & I to Oakville just had a lovely drive Got back at 12. Finished work. I went down to practise only me there at Dorlands we sang till ever so late I didn't know what it was till I got home it 11. Willie & Bertha came home with me.

Sun 9th.. Feb Nice day. S & Alf came down for dinner & baby. E.M. Jane & I to S.S. Lot of scholars there. Only 4 of us in choir not many out. Mr Stewart hear for tea. Phil drove M.L. home in eve got them their supper after they came. We had organ in hall so no singing there & Phil played mouth organ. Then we had a talk by coal stove. When I told him about Joe wanting to come. He said let him come & I don't come. He spoke very sharp & quick Tho't I wouldn't go with him if I could with Joe. He went at 12. ask him if he would accept the hat band & he did I have him back his photo which I bargained too if any thing transpired between I sorry for the way I used us.

Mon 10th.. / 90 Sewing. Had Lottie Ingledew & her sister Allice for tea they came to see Jane. It sleighing snow. Jane got home 4. M.W. {coloring?}

Tues 11th.. Feb. Washing. very tired crocheting in P.M. Writing after tea.

Wed 12 Feb Nice day Pa & M.W. went to Oakville got quarter of beef. I baking Sewing carpet rags in P.M. Went to P.O. saw Bertha she going up to Palermo to join temperance.

Thur 13th.. Feb / 90. I making mince meat all A.M. Willie Dorland & Bertha called in evening and we had music he bro't his guitar with him. It 11 when they went.

Frid 14th.. Valentines day. Gertie Altons birthday 17. I working at rug. Dave called in a few minutes he hadn't been over for couple of weeks. I got letter from John Forfar.

Sat 15th.. Jane & M.L. went down to Mrs McCays. Then M.L. & I went to practise.

Sun 16th.. Feb. Went to S.S. & church. It thawed and very bad walking. I expected Joe but didn't come. Frank W. came up from church with me. He went to jump some water and fell flat. He went to M.P. church after tea. Dave & Arthur came we talked and had a sing & then we went in pantry & eat It 11 when they went

Mon 17th.. I working at rug. Dave came over to sharp a saw & stayed for dinner helped me put ear or {beaver?} on rug.

Tues 18th.. Baking and washing. It very stormy and cold M.W. drove Lois to school.

Wed 19th.. Blustry but a little finer day. Girls had rags all scattered around dining room & Kate Blanchard & H. Eager from Horning came so they stayed for tea and took Jane back with them Mr Stewart hear also for tea. Geo W. called in eve bro't song book which Ida had sent.

Thur 20th.. Had rail road man hear to buy land & Pa rather {worried?} about it as E.M. not home. In eve rather milder so {Mcleans?} team called for us & we called at Dorlands & drove over for Geo W. and then all drove up to Mr Trillers to practise Got there B.4. 8. Archie came after we got there. Had a splendid practise & refreshmets got home at 2. Archie had his cutter and he asked M.L. & I both to ride home with him he asked me 1st.. but I didn't care too. Geo W. pretended he was surprised to think I wouldn't accept a cutter ride. Triller girls both laughing in their "sleeves" at Archie.

Frid 21st.. Feb. Sweeping. I going to bed so early & Dave came so sat up & talked to him after folks had all gone. He raking up past actions. We talked till 12. I so sleepy for was up late the night before. He talking about Bertha & losing faith in anything good after her acting so

Sat 22nd.. Feb / 90. Ed. Blanchard bro't Jane home. I finished rug. Then Jane & Lois drove up to Street thought E.M. would come home but didn't then stayed all night. In morning M.W. drove M.L. over to Mrs Williams. Lois & I drove over to Mr Brays I to tell Charlotte about practise. I called at Dorlands and Charlotte there we had a practise then walked over to Mr Williams & Emily & Ida & Mr Triller there so had a splendid practise. Ida T. very comical. We walked home got home at 12. Charlotte stayed all night.

Sun 23rd.. Nice morning. Got bkft at 9. Then Charlotte went home I had a nap till 12. Jane & Lois drove home. I went to S.S. & church. It rained after church. The choir had practise after class meeting. Archie drove Charlotte M.L. & I home through rain. Mr Stuart hear for tea. In evening us all alone I went to bed early.

Mon 24th.. Rather rainy. Jane & M.W. went to Oakville. I went down to Dorlands to have a practise. Then Williams called & changed wagons took ours with 3 seats, & Charlotte Bray Lois J. M.L. & I went from hear & Mr & Mrs Williams Mr Yorstone & three of Dorlands & Willie Bain the driver. 11 of us. Had a fine time going up. No {early?}. The church crowded We got through singing very nicely. Joe B not there do not know the reason. Choir got in free they made 45. F.S.W. & Jennie Mitchell waited on choir. I wore a boquey of cream rose buds and green leaves which Lois made of paper & perfumed them. Every body smelling them thot they were so nice. Bertha had a boquey which Geo bo't in Hamilton for her Girls said mine looked as nice as hers.

Tues 25th.. Feb / 90. Churning & sewing carpet rags Rather rainy.

Wed 26th.. Feb. Jane & M.W. washing. M.L. & I not very well I laying around all morning. Got letter from Ida said Phil was in Hamilton over Sunday & had a good time.

Thur 27th.. I ironing. M.W. & Jane coloring rags eetc. Got letter from Annie & her opinion about Joe & Phil. I writing in this to bed 10. feeling very lonely P.M.

Frid 28th.. Baking & sweeping.

Sat 1st March 1890. I got work done & Jane drove me up to Station & I took noon train to Hamilton. Saw Frank W. in station & I talked to him. I found Ida & Mabel home. Emma down town taking painting lesson Ida glad to see me.

Sun 2nd.. March. Nice fine day. No singing after breakfast Then Mabel Ida & I went to Centenary church heard Mr Ross preach. Splendid sermon about doing everything "to the glory of God." Then Mabel Blondie & I went to S.S. at John Street church. Saw Ada Johnston & Edna & Lila Had our dinner & went to church at eve. to Knox church went up in Gallery ever so high. Ida & I had a fine talk after got in bed.

Mon 3rd.. Very cold. Sarah & Wolsley Alton came about 10.30 Wolsley didn't stay. Sarah had the baby with her. I stayed in all day Mon. S. & Ida done shopping.

Tues 4th.. While Ida & S. down Street, Emma tryed to clip the baby hair off. Alf came & saw it before we had it finished & he didn't like it. We girls walked down to the station with Sarah & took turns in carrying baby but missed the train. Felt sorry for Sarah she took car back. Ida & I went on to Jennie Wilds found the place & stayed for our tea. Then her & her husband going to Theatre so all came up town to gether.

Wed 5th.. March / 90. In P.M. Emma S. Ida & I started early & done some shoping then went in Farmers bro. & got an ambertites {ambrotypes} taken. S. Ida & I & baby. Then I went to station with S. & Ida & emma went to get picture frames. I forgot baby buggy in station so Ida & I went back for it. Then Emma Ida & I went through new City hall. We set up till 12. Then I posted card Emma & I did.

Thur 6th.. In P.M. Ida & I carried valice down to College for Geo. W. to bring home on train & he not there so carried it down to Station & waited for him. It terribly cold below zero. I played & sang a little then to bed.

Frid 7th.. Mabel & I went down to Mr Johnston after 4 O'clock It a long walk. Stayed for tea took car home. It 10. When got home.

Sat 8th.. Mabel Dora McMichell & I down to market saw Josie A. Then we went throug City hall again. Mabel & I & Gordon went to Mattinee in P.M. It just splendid never was at one before. Just got home in time to go to train. We took Blondie with us. Mabel came to train with us. M.L. & I went to practise after tea. Emily down.

Sun 9th.. March. Went to S.S. & church. Had good sermon on "As we sow so shall we reap." Had Mr McGilvery hear for tea & eve. Ida had newaligy {neuralgia} in her face so couldn't entertain him Lois & I singing & talking to him he went at 9 Mrs Jones & Mr Sherdian bro't Lois down & took M.L. back.

Mon 10th.. Washing. M.W. & Jane went to Oakville. It raining in P.M.

Tues 11th.. Raining dreary day I ironing. M.W. & Jane drove up to Ingleharts in P.M. Ida sewing at her dress.

Wed 12th.. Rainy. I finished ironing. Philus Alton drove up in P.M. I got dressed & came down. Sarah sent him down for one of us girls. I made fire on in parlor. He & I down singing Ida got ready & went with him after tea. He just as friendly as ever, although he told Ida he never would come down to see me again but would come to see her. If he came so I let him take her.

Thur March 12th.. / 90 Emma Bray came. Girls all quilting down in parlor I baking & cooking dinner. Then I quilting in P.M.

Frid 13th.. E.M. birthday. Girls finished quilting. I baking cake & doing Sat. work. M.W. cleaning parlor & hanging Ida's paintings

Sat 14th.. March. Rather cold & windy. M.L. & Blondie went to Ham. Mr Bray hear for tea. I writing in this.

Sun 15th.. Very windy went to S.S. & church. Dave walked up with me & hear for tea but went home to do chores. I reading in eve to bed early.

Mon 16th..

Tues 17th.. I called for Bertha D. to go to Bible class but she had head ache so I went alone. Had a very good meeting studyiing S.S. lesson. Arthur B. walked home with me & we sat & talked till 10. Had Phoebe Binkley come on eve. train & stayed all night.

Wed 18th.. Jane & Phoebe went over to Brays for dinner then back here & Jane drove her up to station. Just as we had tea ready who should walk up but Frank W. & Joe B. so set table over & I did work & dressed my self before eating tea. They stayed the evening. Geo. W. came & us playing cards. It 10.30 when they went Joe said he would be down Sun.

Thur. 19th.. I

Frid 20th.. I drove Lois up to station & talking to Arthur B. coming back then I went to P.O. & Geo. W. got out of stage & walked down with me. I went to store & coming back Dave caught up to me & came in he had new washing machine to show us. He stayed & talked till 1. O'clock tell me of his the past experience with B.

Sat 21st.. Got through work good time I went to P.O. couldn't keep from laughing when I thought of what Dave had told me about her.

Sun 22nd.. March. Went to S.S. & church. Joe came in church rather late. Had splendid sermon. The walking very muddy. In morning Janes cow calved & us all out to barn before breakfast. Had a {pie?} one cow afraid of her calf. So after tea I left Maria to talk to Joe while I went & milked. Joe & I had a fine talk in parlor he telling me he had ordered a new buggy & bot a colt etc. I told him how Phil & I stood.

Mon 23rd.. March 18.0. Just got through washing as Alf & Sarah came. they went home after noon.

Tues 24th.. I sick all A.m. Dave called for me to go to Bible class but I couldn't go I sent word with him to tell Bertha that I couldn't be down.

Wed 25th.. M.W. went up to train to meet Laura Walton from NewCastle I covering box with tin foil.

Thurs 26th.. Jane went over home & to Annie Brays. It lovely day. Emma & baby & Blondie & M.L. came on eve. train.

Frid 27th.. Terrible snowstorm & windy from the east. All the road blocked

Sat 28th.. March. E.M. came home on noon train from Orilla. In eve. Laura & I went down to practise through snow. Stayed at Dorlands all eve. Boys went to band practise. Got home 11.

Sun 29th.. March. Went to SS. & church Archie there he drove Laura & I home & stayed for tea. Then he drove us up to M.P. church got terribly splashed with mud going. Had splendid choir. When got home Dave & Arthur hear & Lois talking to them in hall so we had music Archie played on violin & I organ. He went at 10. Laura fooling with Arthur & Dave. It 11 before they went.

Mon 30th.. Alf bro't Ida home. She said they had Joe, Harris, Gertie & Philus there at Sarahs for tea. She & Laura went over to Mrs Williams in P.M. but didn't stay. E.M. drove. Jane, Lois, Laura, Ida & I all over to Mrs Bray & we spent the evening.

Tues 1st.. April / 90 I fooled the girls 1st.. thing by looking down lane to see if any one was coming. When Lois came from school she bro't a letter for me from Josie Gilters & the girls all thought it was from Dave so I went down

in parlor to read it & they came down & Jane read it out & laughing making fun but it was a good April fool on the girls. Expected Dorlands up but didn't come Lois got dressed & Laura & got fooled again

Wed April 2nd.. Pa's birthday he 78. Dave & Arthur called in evening & we went Ida, Laura & I down to Open temperance meeting in hall. We walked on snow banks had great sport. Meeting very good but lengthy. It after 11 Laura & Arthur fooling & running around. Dave & I talking in dining room. It 12.

Thur 3rd.. April Ma's birthday 61. Lois went home on train & Jane with her. Annie came home I met her. It raining. E.M. & Jane & Annie playing & singing Ida & I crocheting etc.

Frid 4th.. Good Friday. Girls sewing at Annie dress. Annie reading on hands around table in evening no body hear all day.

Sat 5th.. Baking. expect a crowd over Sun. Laura & Mabel came on noon train. M.L. & I went to practise I called at Dorlands early & Archie came then after I there a while then Annie came she had been over to see Edith. Us all over at church singing. Ida, Laura & Mable stayed in very quiet then Ernest W. & Arthur Biggs came too. Had great sport practising It lovely & moon light Archie partly asked me to drive up with him but I said he would catch up to us & then I'd see but he never asked me when he caught up to us. There were 6 of us girls all in a string coming home It 10.

Sun 6th.. April Easter Sunday. Cloudy day. S & Alf came I took a nap in morning. Then went to S.S. & church not as many out as I expected to see. Had Sarahs baby christened Estella May after church. Mr Stewart here for tea Had a large table full I waited. Just for tea over when Alf went & Philus & Wosley came. Sarah stayed. Then Joe B. came. He has a swollen hand said his cold kicked him. Us singing in parlor & then E.M. talking to Joe then Annie got talking to him so I never got a word said at all to him they went at 10.31. I never even asked when he would be down again. Us reading there hands {?}

Mon 7th.. April Easter Monday. Girls painting & Ida finishing Annies dress Bertha called & Laura Mabel & I all went to Woods got winter greens walked over to rail road bridge & had a narrow escape to get off track before train came. Bertha hardly off track before train passed Got home at 5. Annie just about ready to stay with her trunk. Edith Mitchell hear for tea. Jane had baby over home with Kate B. Bertha went home for tea. After tea Geo W. Frank. Willi D. & Bertha came up & we had fine music singing etc. They went at 10.30.

Tues 8th.. Raining. Arthur B. called in morning to see S. baby. Ida & Laura painting so I tryed my hand also. The dog barked & Pa says now girls the fellows are coming just then Arthur tapped on window & we all had such a laugh. He called to go to B. class but it to late to go. It 10.30 when I went to retire & left Arthur & Laura talking.

Wed 9th.. April. I finished painting on satin etc. Writing in this got so far behind. To bed 10.
